Book Description
The opening chapter explains the recent growth of industry PR, and travel & tourism news coverage which today focuses on the considerable economic benefits of the industry. Additionally, it reviews the leading news media that covers the industry, the primary PR tools and audiences, and details the factors leading to PR's new prominence across the industry. It also provides informative sidebars with lists of key industry print media, top travel agencies, plus a Travel Industry Association of America case study of a post-9/11/2001 campaign to restore American confidence in travelling. It also includes a composite definition of PR, and tells how PR is a discipline distinctively different from publicity, propaganda, advertising, and marketing. The author notes how, over the past decade due to economic conditions, PR in many cases has been integrated with marketing communications and played an important role in both strategic and tactical marketing activities.
Following this overview, the ensuing five chapters examine communications model specifics that are of special importance to the industry's major sectors: hotels/lodging establishments; restaurants; tourist attractions/destinations; and transportation services. Each of these sectors have their own
special messages, PR tools, and audiences. For example, meeting planners and travel agents are of most importance to hotels, while travel agents are of little importance to airlines and restaurants. Also included is a chapter about what travel employers should understand about PR
The chapters will be followed by appendices that will include:
The top 30 U.S. Travel & Tourism Professional/Trade Associations; and the Leading U.S. Travel & Tourism Universities.
* Provides a comprehensive how-to guide for travel & tourism PR practitioners to increase profits and enhance the visibility and image of their company or client
* Introduces the key domestic/international media and audiences that PR pros in travel & tourism need to target, plus what the best PR tools are to use -- including crisis communication -- along with case studies
* Addresses the unique communication challenges in each major industry sector as faced by travel & tourism PR professionals through perspectives from industry experts
* Features a dozen sidebar contributions by some of the industry's top PR experts and media stars
* Advises industry employers about the value of PR, what it is and is not, and suggests ways to identify PR talent

Book Description
There is tremendous diversity in Tennessee's trout waters: tailwater rivers, mountain streams, and lakes, and much of it is on public land. This guidebook will give you a good starting point for exploring these waters, including up-to-date information, detailed maps, and easy-to-understand icons. Productive techniques and fly patterns are given for over 25 different trout waters, as well as what species you can expect, whether hiking is required, available camping and accommodations, whether it is safe for canoe, drift boat or motorized boats, and more. Not only is Tennessee beautiful and historical, it has great trout fishing; Tennessee Trout Waters is your guide to this fly-fishing paradise.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Coverage of a broad topic..........2006-03-16
I visit Tennessee in the Spring to fish the Park and the tailwaters, and Ian's book has been my sole guide to these waters since its publication. It covers a wide, wide range of rivers and streams, and delivers enough information to get you on the water with a reasonable idea about what's about to happen.
A nice touch is Rutter's listing of alternative fisheries (and drive times); should you arrive at a tailwater and discover the water release schedule has been altered, leaving you with an unfishable mess.
Rutter certainly knows these fisheries like the back of his hand (he's the top guide in the area, and lives on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park), and manages to impart a lot of information very quickly.
My only real complaint is that a longer book might be a bit more useful - in places, I'd love to have more information, though the somewhat transient nature of the tailwater fisheries (they live and die based on TVA flow schedules, which can change on a whim) and rapid development around some of the tailwaters (the Clinch being a prime example) would make it difficult to say much with any real precision.
A great & useful guide book.
Book Description
All previous Biblical Hebrew lexicons have provided a modern western definition and perspective to Hebrew roots and words. This prevents the reader of the Bible from seeing the ancient authors' original intent of the passages. This is the first Biblical Hebrew lexicon that defines each Hebrew word within its original Ancient Hebrew cultural meaning. One of the major differences between the Modern Western mind and the Ancient Hebrew's is that their mind related all words and their meanings to a concrete concept. For instance, the Hebrew word "chai" is normally translated as "life", a western abstract meaning, but the original Hebrew concrete meaning of this word is the "stomach". In the Ancient Hebrew mind, a full stomach is a sign of a full "life". The Hebrew language is a root system oriented language and the lexicon is divided into sections reflecting this root system. Each word of the Hebrew Bible is grouped within its roots and is defined according to its original ancient cultural meaning. Also included in each word entry are its alternative spellings, King James translations of the word and Strong's number. Indexes are included to assist with finding a word within the lexicon according to its spelling, definition, King James translation or Strong's number.
Customer Reviews:
Totally silly!.......2007-07-29
Did you know that ancient people invented writing first, then started creating concepts and spoken words accordingly-?? Mind though, I'm not talking about Grammatology of Jacque Derrida but the postmodern "Ancient Hebrew Lexicon .."
Seriously:
Don't let the misleading title of the book or any positive (hoaxed?) reviews fool you. I could not believe my own eyes when I first paged through this so called "Lexicon". In short, this book is written by an unknown genius whom scholars may cruelly describe as a "crack pot". To see the point, let me give you an outline of the dictionary. The author has written the bulk of Biblical Hebrew words in his own version of Phoenician script; then like medieval magicians (who thought Egyptian hieroglyphic writing was series of encoded pictographs) has deciphered his home-made pictographic lexicon. In this regard, the author acts like an ancient Greek oracle: His etymological methodology is under sever influence of a phantasmagoric volcanic fume rising out of his own imagination.
If you are not allergic, let me invite you to inhale a sample of this laughing gas:
(1)The Hebrew word "KB" means `star'. Let's see how the author has discovered the root of this word: He starts with the interpretation of his own pictographic version of "KB" (written with a picture of a hand and a house). The result is what you may call delusional etymology: The first pictograph "is a picture of the palm of hand and represents a covering; the [second sign] is a picture of a tent. Combined these mean `covering of the tent'." -SO WHAT? You may ask, WHAT IS IT GOT TO DO WITH `STAR'?? The answer is so easy if you are patient enough and let the oracle continue: "The black goat hair fabric used for the roof of the tent allows some light through giving the appearance of stars overhead." (p.144)
CAN YOU BELIEVE that 611 pages of this deluxe lexicon are based on such jargons?
(2) second example: the Hebrew word K ='chastise', is written in this lexicon with two pictographs: the first "is a picture of the palm of hand" again, the second is "a picture of a wall. Combined these mean `palm wall'." Now please find the etymological connection between the concept of `chastising' and `hand-wall' ! Here, even our author's imagination may not help-- (I could have thought of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and the chastisement of its protagonist!). But, wait! Here is the author's resolution: "To correct or chastise with a firm hand." (p 145).
Order this book if you need a real fun! Otherwise I recommend the following excellent book:
George Fohrer's "Hebrew and Aramaic Dictionary of the Old Testament"
very in depth.......2007-04-11
ever want to understand biblical hebrew? this is the first step one could take, this author really breaks down origins of words there meaning and anything else you could think of it is not a pick up and go book but requires you study and really challenges you to be a study of GOD's word.

So interesting and informative!.......2007-04-01
I loved this book! It is one of my all time favorite reference books. It has opened up my understanding of the scriptures in a whole new and deeper way.
A must lexicon for the serious student of Biblical Hebrew. .......2006-03-22
There are numerous lexicons, dictionaries, and concordances on the market for students to use when translating Hebrew words as they appear in the Old Testament Hebrew text into English. This is one the few (and the only one I know of personally) that not only gives on the viewpoint of translating Hebrew words into English, while carrying across the thought process that comes with Ancient Hebrew culture.
A good example is the word, "Bara" in Genesis 1:1, where it says, "In the beginning, God created (bara) the Heavens and the Earth. The word "Bara" in most concordances and lexicons will simply trnaslated this word as "to create or to make". However, this is an abstract translation. A more concrete translation, as seen from a ancient Hebrew perspective would be "To fatten, or to fill", as what is fattened is filled. Thus, Genesis 1:1 would be better translated, "In the Beginning, God fattened and filled the Heavens and the Earth", portraying the idea of God filling a Earth that was without form and void, and not the idea of him creating it that way.
Another good thing about this book, is it is keyed to the Strongs exhuastive concordance, so you can look up what the word means in this lexicon, and this carry it over to the Strongs concordance to see the various translations. I highly recommend this work. There needs to be more works into the study of Ancient Hebrew culture & thought, and how it effects Biblical interpreation and translation. The only reason why I give it 4 stars, is because there are some roots (only a few) that are left without all their proper translations, but that is the case with pretty much any lexicon, which is why a serious student should always have more than one resource in the first place.

Paul McCartney: Many Years From Now
ASIN: 0811845079 |
Amazon.com
Each One Believing isn't your standard tour memento, but then the tour it chronicles was pretty extraordinary, too. Paul McCartney's 2002-2003 world tour demonstrated just how much mania an ex-Beatle could trigger more than three decades after the demise of the Fab Four. McCartney, who was approaching his 60th birthday when the tour began, headlined a rapturously received extravaganza that took him from Milwaukee to Moscow, from Tokyo to Tacoma. Each One Believing attempts to capture the tour from all angles via numerous on stage and backstage photos, interviews, and press quotes (no need to toot ones own horn when you have a Mexico City newspaper tagging a performance "the most legendary in history forever"). Don't expect anything in the way of grit in this road tale; the clean-living superstar and his entourage dine on the best vegetarian food money can buy and the youngish sidemen are simply delighted to be performing "She's Leaving Home" with the legendary Sir Paul. Each One Believing isn't revelatory in the least, unless one is desires how many crewmembers it takes to construct a stadium-sized rock stage these days (some 140, it seems). But the many who saw McCartney on the triumphant excursion (or Back in the U.S. DVD) and diehard Beatles fans will find it to be a breezy, eye-catching coffeetable book. --Steven Stolder
Book Description
Each One Believing is a revealing, access-all-areas account of life on the road with Paul McCartney. Filled with photographs never before published and insider details, Each One Believing takes you behind the scenes for an exclusive look into a private world. Based on Paul McCartney's most celebrated tour since The Beatles, it weaves Paul's own personal reflections -- along with those of his wife, Heather, his band, and his crew -- together with hundreds of dynamic images by the tour's official photographer, Bill Bernstein, showing both Paul's public appearances and the quiet, one-on-one moments. What drives him to perform? What does it feel like to sing the songs that have touched so many of our lives? This remarkable journey takes us from New York in the days following 9/11, when Paul wrote Freedom; across North America, Europe, and Japan; to his historic show in Moscow's Red Square, "because, having written 'Back in the USSR', I wanted to go there and play that." Poignant and candid, funny and illuminating, Each One Believing is a road trip unlike any other.
Customer Reviews:
A Good Book For Your Coffee Table.......2005-11-27
A great collection of photos -- perfect for the coffee table where you and your guests can pick it up and flip thru it to enjoy the interesting pictures. However, the best Beatles book of the year is undoubtedly TURN ME ON, DEAD MAN by Andru J. Reeve. It's available here at Amazon.com. While "Each One Believing" is nice eye-candy, "Turn Me On, Dead Man" is great journalism, and a much better target for your reading dollar. That's just my opinion.
Rock Show!.......2005-05-17
This book is a cornucopia of photographs and text. Paul McCartney, a veteran in the entertainment business and a class act to boot is clearly happy with himself and quite comfortable on stage, doing his job. No doubt fans as well as those with a more "moderate" interest in Paul McCartney as well as the Beatles will be delighted with this book. I love it!
Paul McCartney is not only an extraordinary showman, but serious and dedicated to his musical Muse. He is a musical purist in the truest sense of the term in that he respects the art of being able to create and perform musically. He paints musical murals with his words; he has a full range ability in performing many different musical styles which makes him musically versatile.
I like the feeling of cooperation that appears to underscore the people directly involved with this show...it sounds like the entire crew had a wonderful time and enjoyed the fruits of their success in technically enabling Paul McCartney to do a spectacular show! Paul McCartney acknowledges this which speaks highly of him. He also accepts the outpouring of love from his audience with grace and aplomb, never losing his humorous approach.
To this book's credit, Paul is not put up on a staged pedastal and fawned and spoonfed obsequious flattery. The people who were directly involved in the production and execution of the concert were serious about doing their jobs well and that was reflected in the actual performance. They were doing their jobs and not currying favor from anybody. It is only natural to be enthusiastic at such a performance and no doubt making any contribution toward the show could only prompt enthusiastic delight.
The photographs are delightful - readers see Paul having fun on and off stage; his lovely wife Heather and the crew who made it all possible. The book speaks to professionalism on the part of the crew; the performers and those photographing and writing about the concert.
This book is truly beautiful and there are many funny, touching, endearing and serious parts. It is Gestaltism - the whole IS greater than the sum of its parts because it is the whole, that is the performer, the crew, loved ones, audience and all who had a part in the production who made the whole show/experience/book as wonderful as they are. It is a glimpse behind the performer's curtain.
Covers both public appearances and private moments.......2005-03-11
Fans of the Beatles and Paul McCartney won't want to miss this lovely title, filled with photos never seen before and insider details from McCartney himself, and packed in an eye-catching hardcover suitable for gift giving and coffee tables. Each One Believing: Paul McCartney - On Stage, Off Stage and Backstage blends McCartney's personal reflections and those of his wife Heather, his band, and his crew and covers both public appearances and private moments. An intimate atmosphere is created which follows some of his finest on-stage moments in recent years.
Superb Collection of Photographs.......2004-12-27
Each One Believing: Paul McCartney; On Stage, Off Stage, and Backstage by Caroline Grimshaw and photography by Bill Bernstein is an excellent visual collection and recollection of Paul McCartney and his band, and the people that were involved with his 2002-2003 World Tour. The book has a great layout and captures McCartney and company in candid moments that go with documentary photography. The chapters in the book are particularly named from lines of songs included in the tour, and at the back of the book, is a quirky section, the Tourasaurus, that McCartney shares with his readers that gives a run down of terms that were used during the tour.
Besides the tremendous photographs in the book, there are radio interviews embedded in the contents of the book that reveal McCartney as one unstoppable rockin' machine, or not to be cliched, a fine wine that keeps "gettin' better" as time goes by. Indeed, he is an icon in rock and roll history and in history in general. There is a line in the book where he speaks about singing and writing "Yesterday," which reveals how far this man has come: "I was writing with wisdom of an old man, but I was quite a young man. So now, once you have actually lost friends and lovers, then it really is kind of ... it means more" (27).
Overall, this a nice addition to anyone's coffetable book collection as well for anyone interested in photography. In addition, this is a wonderful accompaniment to McCartney' Back In the USA DVD, and for those fortunate to be a part of this rock and roll spectacular, this is a book that relives the moments of the tour. McCartney sums up the excitement: "And it's electrifying. It's like a warm blanket, a big wave of heat coming over you, and you just get the intensity, and you see these faces and you think, "Wow! They've come to party" (128).
a reader from Venezuela !!.......2004-12-25
Great great book!! if you are a McCarteny fan, you must have it. mostly if you were in the 2002-2003 "Back in the USA" tour. I don't think that Paul needs to promote himself like some reviews said, this is a good, ilustrative and photographic memories from that great tour. The photos are great, the quality of the book too. I was blessed to be in the last show from that leg of the tour in 2002 Ft. Lauderdale FL, amazing show!! and this book brings to me once again all the emotions from that show !!

Customer Reviews:
Better choices available.......2003-03-21
PROS:
1. Good source for someone looking to buy a call tracking system.
2. Good coverage of telecommuting and internet support.
3. Nice case-studies and quotes.
CONS:
1. Infomercial is my first impression. Hyped is my second.
2. The "mother of all guides" lists only 43 sources.
3. Many critical Help Desk topics are not covered at all.
Mary Lenz is well known to many of us because of her writing and editing for Call Center magazine. I'm sad to report that much of the style of that publication made its way into this book, leaving me with the feeling I was reading an infomercial pretty much from start to finish. There is certainly some good information between the covers, but it's a bit oversold.
Two inconsistencies struck me in this book. First, exaggeration: "Mary is the world's leading expert on Help Desks." Really?! I haven't even heard Bill Rose, Ron Muns or Mikael Blaisdell make such a brazen claim. I would change the title to "Selecting a Call Tracking System" since the book clearly is much less complete than any of several recent help desk books. Even the main element of the book, it's listing of vendors, "the mother of all guides," only contains 43 companies. Microsoft's sourcebook lists over 100 solutions. This left my cynical little mind wondering if the listings had anything to do with advertising dollars. Second, the book has far too many editing errors in it. What an embarrassment given that Lenz is an editor by profession. In short, this all left me with the dissatisfied feeling that Lenz had more to offer. On to the good stuff!
The book offers some of the best material available (inexpensively) on selecting a call tracking system for your support center. This kind of information (RFP's, solution briefs, advice on buying a system) is commonly request on the HDESK-L listserv. While there are many on-line sources for this kind of information, Lenz's book is a nice contribution in this area. It also ensures rapid obsolescence as the market changes.
Lenz's book has a strong section on telecommuting for support staff--an area ignored or weakly covered in other support books. There are also a few paragraphs on internet-based support (definitely a hot topic these days). Finally, there are many nice quotations from industry leaders and (mostly) vendors. While this is a strength of the book, it exacerbates the (possibly incorrect) perception that Lenz is an editor, not an authority in her own right.
Too Little Substance too many vendor lists.......2002-08-18
Looking for a "complete" guide to helpdesks, I was disappointed to read this book and find not a lot of substance. I picked up this book at a call center trade show for a low price. It was not even worth the [dollar amount] that I paid for it.
If you subscribe to Call Center Magazine or some other Call center publication, you will be able to research the various vendors yourself.
Don't spend your money on this book
Hardly Complete.......2001-05-20
The title is a bit deceptive - this book serves best as a primer for those who have little or no prior knowledge of help desks. Those familiar with the topic will quickly move through the book and discover that the better half is devoted to synopsii of help desk applications. And while that information is useful, much of it is readily available on the Internet.
For those researching help desks for the sake of a technical writing project or for managers looking for information to improve an existing help desk, this book will likely fall short of the mark.
The writer's style is encouraging and you do sense that she knows much more than the book contains. And the pages that deal with workplace ergonomics were nice, although they didn't seem alltogether pertitent to the main theme.
Not a bad book, but hardly "complete."
Excellent Book.......2000-04-05
I would recommend this book to any IT Professional or end user. There are many Information Technology books out there on the market today but this one is top notch! Thanks and I look foward to reading more!
Book Description
The language of the call center comes from many fields including telecommunications, engineering, and computer programming. The Call Center Dictionary not only explains what a particular technology is, but also how it can help improve relationships with customers.
Customer Reviews:
OK Reference for a Basic Orientation to Call Center Jargon.......2001-07-04
First, what this book is NOT: it is neither exhaustive nor in-depth. (The fact that the book is only 277 trade-size pages should suggest this.) It is also not particularly helpful to the complete new-comer to the call center environment, especially not Customer Service Representatives. But then it doesn't really claim to do all that. It is written more for, say, people in the finance or human resources department who want to learn a little about what the techno-geeks in systems delivery are talking about. Or for new MIS analysts who may have come from some other performance measurement background, but who haven't grasped all the call center jargon yet. And also for the call center managers who know THEIR job, but who are baffled when they try to talk to anyone in marketing about how the center operates.
So, on to what it IS: this is a dictionary, so you are presumed to have some knowledge of the language to begin with. And the authors try to offer some breadth of the available technology without being too proprietary. The entries concerning CTI (computer-telephone integration) and web-enabled technology are a little sparse, but the core concepts (regarding Automated Call Distribution) are relatively reliable. The typos can be off-putting, but maybe they'll get that improved in the 3rd edition.
I wouldn't rely on this book alone as my "Complete Guide" to call center operations (I hope the title was the product of an over-active marketer rather than the authors' choice), but is is a HELPFUL guide. If you are looking for detailed material, pull out your user manuals and read the README.TXT files that come with your applications. If you are looking for a general overview of the terrain, this book is a good tool to have at your disposal. If you leave it at your desk, you may be surprised at the number of people who ask to borrow it.
A very useful reference.......2000-11-28
At the moment, I do not know a long-term course training call center resources specialist, and people doing this job usually come from other field. The book is full of useful hints to help people with a good, but general, background in connecting it to the reality of call centers and every day activities in CRM. As usual for this kind of books, it is not a detailed reference, but I found in it satisfying answers to many doubts arised about the correct use of words and acronyms.
It's a start.......2000-09-16
Aside from the spelling and grammatical errors, I found this book extremely helpful in getting me past the clutter of acronyms that are so prevalent in the telecom field. Unfortunately, this is also one of the very few books that is willing to define most of the terms for you. In that regard, I think that this is a great book that serves its purpose. Although I would really like to see a more updated version.
Another Dawson Grammatical Error Filled Book.......2000-08-28
I have been a senior analyst in call centers for years and am not very impressed with the amount of thought that went into this book. Dawson / Bodine define terms, but they do not give examples. In today's call centers, I am uncovering numerous mistakes being made by management and reporting analysts in their understanding of what elements are important to better running a call center. Example: This book should have given examples of how Average Speed of Answer (ASA) is calculated, then explained that taking a straight average does not give you a true picture of the call center's performance. What are key measures to a call center success? I too read this book and found myself scratching my head. If this is the quality of book coming out in the future, I think I will stop reading.
Keep in mind that Dawson is (or was) an editor of a call center magazine. I have now purchased 3 books by Dawson and I am getting turned off. The amount of spelling errors and grammar mistakes in all his publications is overwhelming.

Keep in mind that Dawson is (or was) an editor of a call center magazine. I have now purchased 3 books by Dawson and I am getting turned off. The amount of spelling errors and grammar mistakes in all his publications is overwhelming.

Book Description
The current paradigm shift in the world economy is challenging the traditional competitiveness and growth theories with their few explanatory variables. This book offers a more holistic framework to synthesize the key findings of the various branches of competitiveness and growth research.
The author illustrates this framework with a new long wave theory of socio-economic development. This theory emphasizes the competitiveness and growth benefits of rapid structural adjustment in the rapidly changing techno-economic environment. Based on thorough analysis the author argues that both markets and governments have become less efficient due to the current transformation of the world economy. His empirical data from 22 OECD countries in the 1980s and 1990s illustrates that efficiency and growth-oriented governments have significantly contributed to their countries' economic success.
National Competitiveness and Economic Growth will furnish its readers with a better understanding of the interdependencies of many important but seemingly unrelated aspects of modern economies and societies, for example the dynamics of business and technology, and cultural and institutional change. It will appeal to economists, business professionals and policymakers with a special interest in the competitiveness and growth of firms and national economies as well as the long-term development of socio-economic systems.
