Book Description
Globalization and Resistance brings together cutting edge theory and research about how global economics and politics alter the way ordinary people engage in contentious political action. The cases range from nineteenth-century Irish immigrant networks, to protests against World Bank projects in the Amazon, to contemporary transnational organizing for the environment, to the battle of Seattle. The volume illuminates the different ways that globalization processes affect social movements, and vice versa.

Invaluable Reference book for understanding Jung.......2006-09-02
I bought this book several years ago as I was getting into Jung. I found it then, and now, to be an invaluable reference work. Each entry includes a one sentence line defining the terms, then usually one or two quotes from Jung, and then the author's analysis of the term. Daryl Sharp has done an excellent job of finding the most concise and direct quotes from Jung which explain his terms. He has also included several diagrams which I found very helpful. The index is very thorough as well, and contains all the cross references to the terms in the book. Like I said, I return to this book time and time again and I consider it to be one of the essential books in my own Jung library. I cannot imagine trying to understand Jung without this type of book, and I would highly recommend it especially for newcomers to Jung but also for seasoned pros.
An Absolute Necessity.......2005-10-12
This book is an absolute necessity for any lay-person studying Jung. Sharp not only defines terms but cites passages from Jung's collected works and letters to elucidate them. Anyone who has read Jung knows that the reading and comprehension are impossible unless you go slowly, read with a dictionary, look up all references. You are not going to simply pick the stuff up along the way, and Jung does not slow down and re-explain thoughts later on. He expects his readers to keep up with him. Therefore, we need a book like this for constant reference.
HOWEVER, and this is for Mr. Sharp: I held short on giving this book 5 stars because what we really need is for someone to write a lexicon which also includes the Latin and Greek and French and German phrases that Jung scatters throughout his work. You only do a little in this area, so you leave a lot of the painstaking work up to us. I try to translate the best I can, but I really need a COMPLETE reference guide--until I get that, though, this book is indispensible!
Book Description
The contributions of Carl Jung to understanding of the human psyche are immense. Starting as Freud's most famous disciple, Jung soon broke away from his mentor to follow his own lines of investigation and discovery. Many of Jung's ideas are now considered fundamentals in the study of the mind, but other, more controversial theories dealing with the psychological relevance of alchemy, ESP, astrology, and occultism are only now being seriously examined. This condensation and summary of Jung's life and work by two eminent psychology professors is written with deep understanding and extraordinary clarity and, along with its companion volume, A Primer Of Jungian Psychology is essential reading for anyone interested in the hidden depths of the mind.
Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Introduction to Jungian Psychology.......2006-11-25
Although it may be rather brief, this book does an excellent job with introducing people to the basics of Jungian psychology. For people beginning to learn about Jung's theories, I think this is one of the best starting points, and after reading it I've had a good basis to continue learning more about this subject. It's well-written, easy to understand, provides real-life examples to clarify concepts, and the information is organized in a logical sequence. Altogether it is a wonderful overview.
Very cursory introduction.......2006-10-27
It's a waste of money. Get it at the library, instead. The informational contents are minimal. The paper is of the lowest quality causing the contrast to be very low and very difficult to read. A much better introduction is "What Jung Really Said" by E.A. Bennet, ISBN: 0805210466.
Great Jung cover.......2003-10-30
Jung builds off many of Freuds concepts, therefore the author Calvin Hall had to, and does have a sense of Freudian psychology. There are also many things that are Jungs own such as ideas about: a collective unconscious, archetypes, dreams and symbols and various personality types. All these things and more covered by Calvin Hall - originating from Carl Gustov Jung. Read it.
A Jungian Gem.......2003-10-21
This book is absolutly wonderfull; it defines all of Jung's major psychological contributions in layman's terms. A very, "to the point" book with minute, clear examples in each area.
A superb summary of Jungian psychology.......2000-06-26
This is an indispensable book for anyone beginning their studies in Jungian psychology. At 140 pages in length, the text is an easy read with no wasted words and no convoluted passages to unravel. It addresses Jung's entire system and provides succinct, memorable summaries of each concept.
The Book is broken up into seven chapters:
1. Carl Gustav Jung (biographical background)
2. The Structure of Personality (the psyche, conscious, personal unconscious and collective unconscious)
3. The Dynamics of Personality (psychic energy and values, the principles of equivalence and entropy, etc.)
4. The Development of Personality (individuation, transcendence and integration, etc.)
5. Psychological Types (thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuitive)
6. Symbols and Dreams
7. Jung's Place in Psychology.
For more eminently readable Jungian psychology, try Marie-Louise von Franz.

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from European Journal of Soil Biology, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
Extracting and purifying a representative fraction of bacteria from soil is necessary for the application of many techniques of microbial ecology. Here the influence of different soil types on the quantitative and qualitative recovery of bacteria by soil grinding and Nycodenz density gradient centrifugation was investigated. Three soils presenting contrasted physicochemical characteristics were used for this study. For each soil, the total (AODC: acridine orange direct count) and culturable (cfu: colony-forming units) bacterial densities were measured in three distinct fractions: (i) the primary soil, (ii) the soil pellet (soil remaining after centrifugation), and (iii) the extracted cells. The automated-ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (A-RISA) was used to characterize the community structure directly from the DNA extracted from each fraction. The physicochemical characteristics of soils were found to influence both the efficiency of bacterial cell recovery and the representativeness of the extracted cells in term of community structures between the different fractions. Surprisingly, the most representative extracted cells were obtained from the soil exhibiting the lowest efficiency of cell recovery. Our results demonstrated that quantitative and qualitative cell recovery using Nycodenz density gradient centrifugation are not necessarily related and could be differentially biased according to soil type.

Vague and inconclusive.......2004-09-30
I bought the book because I am looking for a blue water cruiser to take me round the World.
I liked the design explanations especially stability. However I was astonished at the brevity of the section on Keels. Less than a page on one of the most controversial aspects of blue water sailing.
The section on "Five Good Boats" is disappointing in that the boats are not widely available, apart perhaps from the Pearson. In an article in the Pearson Owners association web site the designer implicitly states the Pearson range were designed for coastal work.
There is no mention of any of the popular boats generally regarded as offshore suitable.
The author - the Technical Committee of the CCA, is no doubt a prestigious and experienced body, but it is heavily involved in racing and I think this shows.
The addition of a section on popular "offshore" boats and their strengths and weaknesses would have put my rating up to 4 stars.
A chapter from the Old Testament of sailing.......2003-12-23
This collection of articles by a Cruising Club of America committee of the surviving gods of 20th-century sailing, especially the venerable Olin Stephens, lays down the dogmas of bluewater sailing design and safety as they were agreed upon by these worthies at the close of the century. Their lament at the undue influence of racing design on consumer cruising boats is commendably progressive, but otherwise the material is a chronicling of their conservative preferences in traditional equipment. The chapter on anchors takes a step backward, recommending as the primary anchor the fisherman, a design not in production even in 1987 (based on the author's experiences in 1962!); 4 of the 5 boats in the chapter on good designs were custom models not affordable to the general public, letting us all know where we (and they) stand in the class structure of sailing. Read this material for its intrinsic value and recover your sense of modernity by having a go at Garry Hoyt's book "Ready about", which is the New Testament and road map to the 21st century future of sailing.
An excellent book.......2003-04-16
Whether you are a novice about to buy your first boat or an old salt who wants to add a little more practical knowledge, this is an excellent book. Some of the recommendations may seem like overkill for the casual weekend sailor, but it is best to be prepared, if not in equipment then at least in knowledge, for the worst conditions. There is a big difference in knowing and not knowing how much your boat falls short of ideal preparation. This book could give you a sense of where to set the standard.
Leaves you with more questions.......2001-01-11
A good well written book with essential information clearly explained. If you know exactly what type of characteristics you want in a boat (performance, safety, etc) then this book will help in finding the right boat though the criteria laid out in the boat by various authors are not easily found or reconciled in one boat design. Will make further investigation more productive to be sure. Certainly a jumping off platform for the first time buyer and more reading is needed for a true understanding of the concepts resented in the book.
Outstanding.......2000-05-16
This book is incredible. If you are a complete novice, in the market for your first boat - or an experienced sailor preparing to go to sea - this should be required reading. There is an incredible amount of experience behind this book, making it the authority on sailboat configuration and equipment. Illustrated in all the right places.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent book - highly recommended.......2006-03-18
I purchased this book for our upcoming wedding, and it was exactly what we had been looking for. It has a pocket organizer in the back of the book, so all contracts and other paperwork were always organized and kept together securely with the book.
The book offers plenty of suggestions to review florists, catering halls, entertainment, etc...
Wedding Planning Essential.......2006-02-24
What a great idea to help you plan your wedding. I've been planning our wedding for 1 year now and I wish I'd had this from the outset. It's a little "american" but the majority of ideas and suggestions are ideal regardless of where you come from. Would definitely recommend it.
Wedding Planner Review.......2006-02-23
This planner has been very helpful in getting started with my planning. There are a few points that I don't find neccesary, but that is common with something like this. The folder connected to the book is very nice for filing payments and other information for the reception, florists, photographers, etc. Overall, I would suggest this planner to anyone--whether you are having a casual or formal wedding--it covers everything. It is very well organized and understandable too.

The Final (and darkest) book in the series. Review by a 14 year old Star Wars fan........2006-05-21
I was astounded by the cover's CGI redition of Asaji Ventress. I just picked it up and bought it. Some of the major points in the book:
-Anakin( a couple months away from becoming Vader) and Boba encounter each other and become friends( which actually shows why Darth didn't strangle Boba when he objected to his orders in ESB- because they are friends.).
- Boba goes to the Jedi Temple and encounters Mace Windu (killed Jango Fett) by just a glimpse.
- Boba gets his weapons back and breaks into the emporer's throne room and fights Mace, with Mace about to win when Palpatine interrupts, and Boba tells the soon- to- be emporer about dooku. (I still think Boba should have killed Mace in ROTS instead of Anakin.)
Review by Arman - 6 years old.......2006-04-17
Once upon a time there was a boy named Boba Fett. His father's name was Jengo Fett. One day Anakin came and fought both of them. Then Anakin put his light saber back on his belt. Anakin saw two Jedi knights named Mace Windu and Kit Misto. They fought a bad guy named Darth Maul. Then they put their light sabers back into their belt.
My thoughts: The book was good because it was full of action. I like their names. The story was sad and good.
i agree with the two previous reviews.......2005-07-18
this book was AWESOME! i really enjoyed it!first of all, it begins where BOBA FETT 5: A NEW THREAT left off. after rescuing himself from being burned alive, Boba is attacked by Asajj Ventress... to be saved by Anakin Skywalker. Anakin brings Boba to Coruscant, where Mace Windu lives...
Definately agree with previous review........2005-01-10
Although adult readers will completely blow through this series in a few hours, it is well worth reading. Definately took me back to my "dumb kid" days seeing Boba make all of the mistakes he did as a youth. Driven off hatred and vengence...this definately sets a good back story for the best Bounty Hunter in the galaxy. Must read for all ages!
Conclusion to a Great Series! .......2004-12-30
The Boba Fett series comes to a thrilling conclusion with Boba, now a warrior and bounty hunter in his own right, seeking revenge on Mace Windu, the jedi who murdered his father at the start of the Clone Wars.
There is a twist ending I won't give away, but I will say Chancellor Palpatine makes a sudden appearance and there IS an actual confrontation between jedi and bounty hunter.
Readers might experience sympathy with the Boba character as he is basically a boy who grows up to be a cold warrior because of what happened to his father.
Having said that, while this series was primarily for younger readers, adults will get something out of it as well. I know I did.
