Book Description
Based on the National Coalition Building Institute’s popular leadership development program, Leading Diverse Communities gives community, campus, nonprofit, and business leaders the tools they need to embrace diversity and encourage their stakeholders to do the same. The book is filled with practical guidance on how to achieve results and provides a simple, skill-oriented guidebook for busy leaders. Leading Diverse Communities distills the National Coalition Building Institute’s wisdom into thirty-two concise leadership principles. Each principle is illuminated with theory and a related example, activity, and worksheet that can help develop the skills required to put a particular principle into practice.
Book Description
“This is a well-written book. Quite simple and precise . . . The authors should be commended. This book deals with leadership from a very contemporary perspective that reflects the importance of multiculturalism.”
–Guo-Ming Chen,
University of Rhode Island
No matter how culturally different the person or group, there will be common-ground similarities and no matter how similar the person or group, there will be significant differences. Culture influences our thoughts, words, and actions in ways that are often unrecognized, leading to misunderstandings. Each misunderstanding can become very expensive, both in terms of missed opportunities and less effective business outcomes.
Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment provides leaders with the tools necessary to effectively interact with all individuals.
Although much of the research related to multiculturalism has focused on expatriates and international assignments,
Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment also focuses on leaders in domestic organizations, as they can benefit from developing their own multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills. Effective leaders can shape the culture of their organization to be accepting of individuals from all races, ethnicities, religions, and genders with a minimum of misunderstandings.
Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment is well grounded in solid research, but written in an easy-to-comprehend style that:
- Provides a “culture centered” leadership perspective allowing organizational leaders the opportunity to attend to the influence of culture
- Helps the reader find examples of how multicultural awareness can make their leadership task easier
- Promotes an organizational culture that is more satisfying to both individuals and their leaders by embracing and celebrating differences.
Leadership in a Diverse and Multicultural Environment is an ideal supplemental text for undergraduate- or graduate-level international management, leadership, or diversity-related courses taught in the business curriculum. It could also be used in leadership courses taught in education and communication departments.

Book Description
An Invitation to Cognitive Science provides a point of entry into the vast realm of cognitive science, offering selected examples of issues and theories from many of its subfields. All of the volumes in the second edition contain substantially revised and as well as entirely new chapters.
Rather than surveying theories and data in the manner characteristic of many introductory textbooks in the field, An Invitation to Cognitive Science employs a unique case study approach, presenting a focused research topic in some depth and relying on suggested readings to convey the breadth of views and results. Each chapter tells a coherent scientific story, whether developing themes and ideas or describing a particular model and exploring its implications.
The volumes are self contained and can be used individually in upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses ranging from introductory psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, and decision sciences, to social psychology, philosophy of mind, rationality, language, and vision science.

Best Martial Arts Book I Ever Read.......2007-06-22
I have a whole stack of them too, but this one has excellent pictures and descriptions by a true Master of Aikido.
Perfect for United States Aikido Federation Aikidoists.......2005-10-12
This is the book to get if you are practicing in any of the dojos in the United States Aikido Federation. Written by the Shihan of that organization, this book illustrates and describes the techniques that will be tested from (5th Kyu to San Dan) and is a great supplement to work in the dojo. Yamada has also produced DVDs (The Power and the Basics) that are available from the United States Aikido Federation which show him executing the techniques. Both the book and the DVDs contain valuable pointers and instruction on how to correctly perform Aikido techniques. Ultimately of course, the only way to learn any martial art is to practice the techniques over and over again. They must evolve from 'mental knowledge' to 'body knowledge'. That is, you must get to the point where the body executes the techniques without thinking as situations arise. To get to this state, it is essential (particularly for Aikido) to practice with another partner.
A great book to have in your Aikido book library!.......1999-07-05
Sometimes, you just need a good book to refer to the techniques and clarify a couple of points. This book is it. While I understand that it is somewhat lacking in the spiritual aspects of Aikido, I won't fault it because I like the graphical illustration so much. The illustration gives adequate detail to movements so that I can clarify some of the movements which are not so obvious and easily remembered, especially after you get whipped around alot in class. I do wish that Yamada sensei would write another book focusing on Advanced techniques of Aikido and weapons training!
Excellent instruction in traditional (Aikikai) Aikido.......1998-10-24
This is a very useful teaching tool from a outstanding Shihan (teacher's teacher) in classical, traditional Aikikai Aikido. The terminology used is standard terminology, and a large number of basic techniques are very well explained and illustrated with clear action photos and some drawings. The book is a very useful teaching / learning tool to help with frequent practice for the Aikido student. An excellent book for beginner to advanced Aikido students. If you are going to pick one book on techniques in classical, traditional Aikido, this should be it.
Great introduction to basic aikido!.......1998-05-22
Sensei Yoshimitsu Yamada displays great thoughfullness in explaining and illustrating basic Aikido empty-hand and weapon techniques to the uninitiated. Not much here on the philosophical foundations of Aikido, but plenty of detail on execution of techniques. Those interested in understanding the nonviolent, peaceful philosophy behind this art should check out Kisshomaru Ueshiba's "The Spirit of Aikido". This book by Sensei Yamada focuses on technique, displaying with exactness how the various pins, locks and throws are executed with both dramatic photographs and instructive drawings. I highly reccommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to perform Aikido.
Product Description
In continuous production since 1904, Madam Le Normand's Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Deck, has been one of the most popular fortune telling decks in the U.S. These cards differ from the Tarot in that the explanations for the symbolism are written right on them along with how the meanings can change when the cards align with other numbers and symbols from other cards. This makes this a perfect deck for beginners or those who wish to tell a fortune at the local coffee shop without getting a degree in the esoteric arts. As the suits are printed on each card, this deck can also be used as a standard deck of cards or novelty item. Contains the standard 52 cards plus 2 jokers and instruction booklet. Card size is 3 ½ x 2 ½.
Customer Reviews:
If you are into tarot cards...check these out.......2007-08-17
These cards are not like tarot...this is more the Grand LeNormand style. I have owed a deck for many years. I ordered these as a gift to a friend. I plan on ordering another deck for a Christmas gift.
These cards are wicked awesome!.......2007-01-23
:) I used these cards years ago. Sold them and bought a new pack the other day. (Wished I had never sold them to begin w/, but they were getting old.) Anyway already I am getting interesting results. I find them simple for beginners tho. The layouts are easy as long as the instructions are read throughly. The instructions are much more simple for me than the Rider-Waite deck, plus the explanations are not so scattered. I love my pack and would not give them away for anything. I like the fact that you can get a yes/no resp, something you cannot get w/ the Rider Waite deck (unless there are layouts out there I have not heard of). This deck allows simple quick explanations and not 5 or 6 outcomes that do not make sense or 5 or 6 events that do not even apply to the situation. This deck is really simple and any beginner should be able to pick it up quickly. If I can, anyone can. I highly recommend them. And it takes not time at all to pick up on the images and meanings.
Especially useful for predictive cartomancy.......2006-09-03
I'm surprised that so many feel these cards are not appropriate for the beginner. I suppose it depends on the reader's objective.
The Tarot provides answers to the querent's questions but always in a positive and somewhat elliptical manner. The reader is forced to interpret the insights in the broadest sense. It delivers the answers within the context of how the subject of the question fits into your general life path, the interpretation being complex and abstract. The Gypsy Witch deck supplies more concrete and accurate answers; it's pragmatic and states the facts. This deck is highly useful if the reader desires a yes/no answer or wishes to be provided with timeframes. For example, if you were to ask the Tarot about your current relationship, it may reply that having a relationship with him/her is an important life lesson for you, that it is a happy relationship but that you need to ensure you don't lose your own identity. Asking the Gypsy deck may return an answer that you will receive a proposal while on vacation and can expect to be married within 11 months. This is merely my opinion after years of practice and many would disagree with my assessment.
I especially like to use this deck to gain specific insights into other individuals (optimal accuracy can be obtained if you know that person's birthday and/or sign). It's also true that the Gypsy Witch cards are a mixture of positive and negative but then again isn't life? Additionally, don't feel obligated to use a traditional layout for your readings. Simple five card spreads are adequate.
Both decks are excellent tools if you find that your energy or thoughts are scattered; both force the reader to focus. Additionally, you'll find that practice with either deck will increase your sensitivity and ability to empathize with the emotions of those around you.
Never feel uncomfortable with the answers you receive, cartomancy merely allows you to tap into the information already contained in your subconscious.
There has always been some controversy surrounding the Gypsy Witch cards regarding the original deck, the numbers in the deck and the person who created them. This information really doesn't matter since you will develop your own personal and intuitive rapport with each card. Personally, I can't see myself ever returning to Tarot cards.
The Great Gypsy Witch Cards.......2006-08-15
I love these cards. I received my first deck when I was seven, and had no problem with them, so they can certainly be used by beginners. They do have some dark cards, but that is a part of life. They are very accurate and enjoyable to use.
A reviewer mentioned that they were first published in 1903, true, then the reviewer said no tarot deck could claim that. There are tarot decks that are reproductions of decks made in the 15th century such as the Visconti Sforza, and then there are decks like the ever popular Rider Waite (first published in 1909) and Cagliostro Tarot (first published in 1912) so these decks definitely have been around too!
a gem of living history!.......2006-07-14
These cards were first published in 1903 and have been around since then - not something any of the age tarot deck available today can claim! Sometimes called GYPSY LENORMAND, these cards are not meant as a game for the curious or novice reader - they are serious fortune telling cards and can reveal an enormous amount of accurate information. Just don't confuse fortune telling with "Love and Light" wanna-be readers who pick up one deck after another but don't want to tell you anything else then that your are on your way to ascension and that the angels love you! This cards deal with the light side of life as well as with the shadow - good and bad is reflected, just as it is in real life! Serious fortune tellers will have to look at these aspects and can not hind behind a romantic and fluffy velvet covered table. If people can not understand that life is not all "love and light" then they will not be able to use these cards - its that simple!
4 stars for the QUALITY of the information that a serious reader can get from these cards! I can not give 5 as I am not 100% keen on the images. The more traditional 36-cards Lenormand deck is still my favorite...

Book Description
The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out in The Shadow Rising, book four of the Wheel of Time, as The Shadow is rising to cover humankind. In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. It will be something no one expects, not the Black Ajah, not Tairen nobles, not Aes Sedai, not Egwene or Elayne or Nynaeve. Against the Shadow rising stands the Dragon Reborn....

Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Rand is now super scary guy. Generally, a woman named Selene is going to be super scary girl. In this case, yep. She is one of the Forsaken. Whines quite a bit less than the rest of the women they have to put up with in this story, too.
Perrin and Faile go back home to beastie's town, and the Aes Sedai politics get violent.
One of the Best of the Series.......2007-07-22
This book is one of Robert Jordan's crowning achievements. This is the best book of the series and one of the most important. My favorite character is Perrin and in this book he gives a lot of coverage for Perrin. It is one of the most important because this book has where Perrin becomes a lord and Rand becomes He Who Comes With the Dawn. This has to be the most funny of any of the books (if they can be called funny) because of the Faile-Perrin interactions. (Dry humor maybe). I have read this book ten+ times and every time I get something new out of it. If you are willing to read a longer book this may become one of your favorites. Though I do admit that the parts when the women are in Tanchico are some of the most boring parts in the entire series and I am guilty of skipping over them. If you like Perrin, Rand, Faile, Avienda, Egwene, or Mat, then this is a great book for you.
Love the series.......2007-07-19
This is my cup of tea! I listened to the audio version and am delighted to finally have the book. My imagination is smiling!
a good read.......2007-06-13
I am working to read the entire series. These are well written books that are a joy to read. It does help to read them in order. I have read several of the series and they are all great. The writing is really good and the style remains the same through out the series.
Love the books, love the reader on cds. .......2007-05-27
Have read every book of Robert Jordan's and one by one am collecting the audio cds. So far all the books are read by the same person and it is an easy voice to listen to.
