It is now exactly fifty years since I learned, thanks to the association experiment, the role which complexes play in our conscious life . . . Dr. Jacobi has made it her task, in this book, to expound the important connection on the one hand between the individual complex and the universal, instinctual archetype, and on the other hand between this and the symbol. The appearance of her study is the more welcome to me in that the concept of the archetype has given rise to the greatest misunderstandings and -- if one may judge by the adverse criticisms -- must be presumed to be very difficult to comprehend. Anyone, therefore, who has misgivings on this score can seek information in this volume, which also takes account of much of the literature."

Textbook Jung made clear by the woman who gave Robert Moore such a bad time at the Jung Institute. Recommended for beginners just venturing into Jung's thought. Don't expect anything innovative.

It is very interesting and accessible, even for the ones not familiar with Jung's theories. It is a good introduction that makes you wanting to know more about C.G. Jung.

Currently, many people are becoming seriously interested in the role of nutrition in human health. Fortunately, there are many good books on nutrition and health for the interested lay person. But once one begins to understand the extreme importance of nutrition for achieving and maintaining good health where can a seriously interested lay person turn for more detailed information? The answer is to this book. Yes, this book requires some serious study, but it is quite well written and does not require a degree in chemistry or biology to follow. A dilligent lay person can gain much valuable information from it. If you are really serious about understanding the role of nutrition in human health I highly recommend this book.

If you want (or need) to go deep into nutrition, this is the book. Very well organized and researched information. Covers in depth nutritional physiology and biochemistry. I used this book in an advanced undergraduate nutrition course and I consider it one of my prized possessions. If there is a better book on the subject, I would like to know about it.
Best biochemical nutrition textbook!.......1998-07-15
I am a graduate student who majors in Nutrition. This is a best biochemical nutrition textbook I ever read! What I like about this textbook is: (1) relatively light weight (575 pages) for this type of textbook, yet very comprehensive. It contains from basic physiology and biochemistry to a current field such as antioxidant nutrition; (2) a large amount of well summarized figures (almost every page has al least one figure); (3) plain English; (4) each chapter concludes with annotated bibliography so that you could use this book as a sort of literature review on a specific field; (5) well-made index, so that you could use this as a sort of encyclopedia of nutrition. Title says "advanced", but I recommend this book to undergraduate students who look for explanation on the biochemistry basis in the nutrition field.

Dated but useful.......2007-07-07
I had to purchase this for a technical writing class. The writer's humor is a bit goofy and the material is a bit dated, but the techniques discussed certainly stand up under time. The checklists and other forms in Chapter 10 were especially useful. There was one aspect of this book that, if they decide to do a updated version, I would love to see changed: lose most of the quotations. I know that the quotations are there to help humanize a technical topic, however, most of them were pointless and there were far too many.
Book title mislead readers.......2006-11-14
I bought this book hoping this book would provide me `do and don't list' on technical writing, but it did not deliver its' promise, confidently exhibited on the book's title..."How to Write About Technical Subjects and Products So Anyone Can Understand." The contents in the book is good, however, they broadly discuss the `technical writing' profession, not 'how to write....' I suggest author to change the title of the book so it does not mislead readers.
I Liked It!.......2005-03-19
I think this book is very helpful to people who have a limited knowlege base for the technical writing feild. This book introduced new ideas and terms relateted to technical writing that I was previously unaware of. I think this is a great book for beginners!
Helps you to understand the process of technical writing.......2004-02-09
I recently finished the book UnTechnical Writing by Michael Bremer. This is a quirky book for technical writers, and focuses on how to make your technical writing "readable" by untechnical people. Bremer has done a lot of writing for software such as The Sims, so he knows his craft. He also is involved in filmmaking, so you can guess he brings a lot of creativity into his writing.
I liked this book a lot. The tone of the book is conversational, replete with interesting quotes related to the subject of writing. While the book isn't one that will "teach" you how to write, it will help hone your technical writing skills such that you can effectively communicate to a non-technical readership. All too often, technical writers write for other techies. This may be fine if that's the audience, but usually it's not.
Another feature of this book is that it will help you understand the entire process of editing and layout. At this stage of my writing career, I can put words to paper and send it off to be "edited". That part is still a mystery to me, as well as what it takes to get a clean copy into a layout ready for publishing. After reading this book, I have a better idea of what others are doing to my original submission.
Good book if you do technical writing...

If there was a subsection in the "How To" category of books called "How to be the Best" author/publisher Michael Bremer's book *Untechnical Writing* would have a true home.
Chock-full of insider tips and insights, the book is testament to its author's years as a writer, editor, manager, technical guru, and all-around "computer geek" nice guy.
Demystifying technical writing in itself and enlisting the reader's own intelligence and practicality, the book outlines how to not only do a technical job well but to do it in the smartest way possible. Invaluable!

It is alarmingly accurate. Anyone who has been involved in the church will recognize the scenarios depicted. I applaud Fr. Couzens for his blunt honesty.
Faith That Dares To Speak Review.......2006-03-23
This book was very insightful. It helped me understand the background of the very top-down nature of the Catholic Church and the lack of communication, especially open and honest communication and hierarchical listening as well as speaking, that continually frustrates me as a lay person. Father Cozzens courageously makes a strong and logical case for the need for change within the Church. Whether, as he suggests, the laity can lead our leadership to make the needed changes, only time will tell. He notes the power of our money (and I have already made some changes in my donations). But his book will also lead me to speak up with more courage than I have shown to date, in hopes that it will lead to a better future for our Church.
A brave and passionate statement.......2006-03-11
Faith That Dares To Speak is a brave and passionate statement on the relationship between the clergy and the laity in the Catholic Church of the third millenium. As an "insider", Fr. Cozzens speaks from an obvious love and concern for the church that he serves. Unlike criticism from outside the Church, Fr. Cozzens is able to speak from firsthand knowledge and with a perspective that intends to build up, not tear down the Church. His expositions of and arguments against clericalism, monarchical and feudal attitudes are compelling and offered in the context of an ever-changing and pilgrim church; and offered as well with a hope and vision for reform and renewal.
While the recent abuse scandal was the obvious impetus for this work, I did find that more attention was paid to that subject than necessary to make his point. A wider exposition of the subject using other examples would have worked to make his argument stronger. In addition, he failed somewhat to acknowledge some of the more positive progress made in the relationship between clergy and laity, and could have used some of those examples to balance the topic, making it less quarrelsome.
Nonetheless, this book is thought-provoking and certain to stimulate conversation among Catholic laity and clergy alike.
