no math.......2007-05-25
Overall this book was OK. It presented the key information in money and banking and the authors often made it entertaining to read. However the one major flaw with the book is the lack of ANY math. I know that some books are marketed for a more mathematical approach and thus contain more advanced mathematics accordingly. However this book had so little math it was laughable. I recall one section where the authors said "this can be proven mathematically, but for now just take our word for it..."
NO, I won't take your word for it, because knowing the underlying principals is to truly understanding anything.
Poorly written.......2006-03-22
Principles of Money, Banking, and Financial Markets contains a great deal of information regarding economics in the United States. As a student, I find it to be poorly written. The authors/editors make constant reference throughout the text to other sections of the text. For example, we will discuss this in depth in chapter seven, but for now, lets reflect our continued study from chapter two and three. By doing so, we will be better prepared to read chapter eleven when we get to it. If the authors / editors left out the references and just left the actual information needed to learn the material, the student would be able to follow the material and perhaps understand the topic better. I am strongly encouraging our economics department to seek another text for future semesters.

Book Description
"Most companies do a poor job of managing their brands. Scott Davis vividly illustrates well-managed and poorly managed brand programs and provides the best methodology I have seen for improving your brand asset management."
— Phil Kotler, S. C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University
Customer Reviews:
A good read.......2006-01-26
Utilizing an 11-step, four phase process, and the author demonstrates how to leverage a company's brands into a valuable asset. Allowing a company to charge a premium for their brands and still maintain market leadership is the goal of the author's process to helping companies capitalize on their brands.
Phase 1: Developing a Brand Vision. A good Brand Vision integrates the company's strategic and financial growth goals with the role brands should play and the direction the role of the brands in achieving these goals should be.
Phase 2: Determining Your BrandPicture. A brandpicture is defined by the authors as "a snapshot of your brand today, as seen by the customer." This allows the company not only to see itself through the customer's eyes, but also understand what the brand stands for and why customers choose this brand. It also helps companies to understand what customers expect from the brand, as well as understand additional needs or wants the customers may have.
Phase 3: Developing a Brand Asset Management Strategy. Positioning the brand for success and extending the brand are critical to fueling growth. Understanding who the competitors are and studying the benefits, strengths and weaknesses off all the competition are critical to having a successful brand asset management strategy.
Phase 4: Supporting a Brand asset management Culture. The final phase ensures that company's culture rallies around the brand as an asset and ensures that the strategies of top management are being implemented. This phase also involves calculating a return on brand investment (ROBI).
A new concept? You're kidding me!.......2003-11-13
I find it surprising the way that some business authors claim that they are creating a brand new concept on how to manage something - in this case the brand, using the "Brand Asset Management" concept - when in fact they are only repackaging old and traditional concepts - in this case, marketing and brand concepts - and giving them fancy names (BrandPicture, BrandContract, etc). Don't be surprised if you feel as if you're reading your old marketing or brand management textbook in a new paperback format. It is as if Kotler had rejuvenated himself and lost some weight.
There is absolutely nothing new on what the author proposes. From defining the "Brand Vision" to implementing it through communications, pricing, and channel strategy, the only positive someone can take out of this book is that it summarizes everything in 250 pages.
Definitely worth reading for beginners as well as experts.......2003-09-14
This book is a comprehensive and holistic approach to brand mgmt. The author presents an expanded view of the meaning and role of brands and gives a new dimension, deeper than the single, limited conceptualization of a brand as a product. The role of the organizational associations, of the culture values and the emotional imput is very well integrated to understand the multidimensional meaning of a brand. Another excellent brand book I realy like is 60-Minute Brand Strategist by Idris Mootee. This book is a very interesting read with lots of diagram and quotes, although not written in a traditional how-to book style. The insights presented to understand brand and company valuations are very well explained.
Pure Spin. Recycled material at best........2003-08-27
This book is more of the same rehashed, recycled, repurposed content from the authors. Much of this material is available in any basic marketing text. In fact, this book reads strikingly similar to just about any training manual on the basics of branding. If you've worked at any of the big agencies: McCann, JWT, Y&R, you learn the contents of this book on your first day in about a hour. All the cases cited in this book are stale and extremely weak. The "editorial reviews" listed above are shill quotes from clients who are cited as "cases" in the book.
Remember this before you buy: the author, and the firm for whom he works, use this book as nothing more than a lead-generation tool--it's called "thought leadership", a nebulous term used by company to propagate its own way of thinking. Save your money. Don't become a victim of Prophet's propoganda. Buy something with substance like Jean Noel Kapferer.
Boring and non-specific.......2002-09-14
This is another "lead generation" piece for the branding agency (Prophet) but unlike some of David Aaker's earlier books which are truly innovative and helpful, this one is a dead fish. Don't waste your time.

Dr. Art's Guide to Planet Earth : For Earthlings Ages 12 to 120
ASIN: 0195090489 |
Book Description
In Maryland, late in the Spring of 1816, the snow fell brown, and blue, and even red. Brown snow fell in Hungary that year, and in the village of Taranto in southern Italy, where any snow is rare, the red and yellow snow caused great alarm. In New England, 1816 was called the Year Without a Summer. Crops failed throughout America, the price of corn and wheat soared, and farmers (lacking feed) sold off livestock, bringing about a collapse in beef and pork prices. In western Europe it was even worse, with food riots and armed mobs raiding bakeries and grain markets. This turmoil followed a catastrophic volcanic eruption a year earlier on the other side of the world--the April 1815 explosion of the volcano Tambora, on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa--a blast heard almost a thousand miles away in Sumatra. In Tales of the Earth, Charles Officer and Jake Page describe--often through eye-witness accounts and through the commentary of prominent figures--some of the great events of environmental history. From natural catastrophes such as the Tambora eruption, the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755, and the ice ages, to manmade disasters such as the nuclear fallout from Chernobyl, the killer smog of 1952 in London which killed some four thousand people, acid rain, and the progressive depletion of the ozone layer, Officer and Page provide phenomenal accounts of the earthshattering events that have changed the course of history. A fascinating discussion of nature's power over humanity, as well as the trouble humanity makes for nature, Tales of the Earth will interest anyone concerned with the environmental and the natural world.
Customer Reviews:
Much to Commend.......1998-09-07
This book deals (on a general-public level) with various catastrophes, geologic and otherwise, that have impacted life on earth. There are separate chapters on volcanoes, earthquates, floods, pandemics, mass extinctions, etc. One should bear in mind the author's long standing opposition to the Alvarez hypothesis of meteoric impact as the defining cause of the Cretaceous Mass Extinction. They give only one side of the story. And their objections to the now widely accepted Alvarez Theory have all been satisfactorily answered. Aside from this, however, this is a well worthwhile book. It's later chapters are devoted to human impact on nature, ozone depletion, carbon dioxide build up, and the exponential curves of population growth, energy consumption. "Ignorance is the essence of the problem that humanity faces..." is how they phrase the current problem, finally concluding that now is the time to "Think Globally and Act Globally". One can only too heartily agree.

Hunting and outdoor enthusiasts will relish in the tales of hunting the big game animals that North America has to offer and glean tips for making their next hunt successful. Originally published as a regulars series in Boone and Crockett Club's quarterly magazine, Fair Chase, this collection will both inspire hunters young and old and bring to light the reasons many of us hunt today.
Join Boddington as he writes about all aspects of the hunting experience, whether it's the special charm of being in caribou country in the early fall, with the low scrub turning golden and crimson and the ptarmigan shifting to white or techniques for hunting the elusive, unpredictable, and adaptable black bear.
Reading this book may just inspire readers to book that once-in-a-lifetime hunt they have always dreamed about.

Outdoor writer Craig Boddington's works have earned him fans for his anecdotes, descriptions, and vital tips on hunting all species of North American big game: here he examines North American big game hunting today, providing readers with the same straight-ahead approach which made his Boone and Crockett Club magazine writings so popular. Chapters cover hunting tricks for different kinds of terrain, use Boddington's background to chart changing times in the hunting world, and pair black and white photos of hunts with biographical background. Nobody Does It Better.......2004-11-05
Boddington proves once again why he is the best general hunting writer alive today. In his usual style, he covers nearly all of the huntable species in North America, blending together information about the game, the method of hunting it, appropriate rifles, and his personal experiences hunting that species. Not only is it informative and useful as a reference work, it is simply enjoyable to read.

Customer Reviews:
This (and his Bride) loves it too!.......2006-04-01
I sat down to start reading this book this afternoon, and didn't get up from my chair until I was finished a few hours later. I was laughing out loud so often that I was beginning to alarm my dogs, who were trying unsuccessfully to sleep at my feet while I read. It brought back great memories from my wedding four years ago, and Scott was able to put into HILARIOUS words so many of the things that my now husband and I went through. We definitely would have appreciated having this before we got married, and we will be sending it as a gift to everyone we know who is now planning their own wedding. Insightful, poignant, at times hysterical, and always right on the money (and it's all about money, right?), this is the best wedding prep book I've seen!
Funniest Book Since "Without Feathers".......2006-03-14
Peter Scott has written a witty, hysterical book on the marriage process. This is a laughing-out-loud read, with every nuance from engagement to honeymoon described in uproarious fashion. A must read, and perfect gift, for anyone who has ever contemplated marriage, taken the big step, or been invited to a wedding. I will never attend one again without feeling intense sympathy for the bride and groom.
Hilarious.......2006-03-07
I'm married, but I read this book anyway and loved it. Far from the dreadful dryness and patronizing tone of most self-help and how-to books, reading Well Groomed is like lounging on the couch in front of the tube with your wisecracking best buddy while he rattles off about your impending nuptials. It's a great read for anyone looking for a laugh, even if you aren't engaged yet or have already gone through the process.
Hilarious and Useful!.......2006-03-02
I bought this book for my brother-in-law, who is recently engaged. I wish my husband (and I!) had had it for our wedding. The analysis of wedding craziness is sharply, painfully right on, the advice surprisingly heartfelt, and the smart, clever tone in which it is all delivered makes it an easy and fun read. A perfect tonic for the wedding crazies, and an excellent gift for any to-be groom.

Once again.....absolutely awe-inspiring.......2007-09-13
Max Lucado is my very favorite author. He simply and effortlessly paints a picture in your mind with his words, causing a deep and lasting effect on one's soul. The Lord God Almighty has anointed this author to quench the thirst of a very labored and weary world. Thank you Max, for choosing to use your gift of writing to bring all of us closer to the God who makes our heart beat, our body breathe, and our souls renewed.

Great Use of A Refreshing Metaphor!.......2007-04-26
Though I do not agree with many of his conclusions in some of his other writings, I found this work very helpful. I truly enjoyed his use of the water metaphor and all is applications. A good read.
Come Thirsty by Max Lacado.......2007-03-14
The book is very good easy reading. Had great service getting book actualy came a bit ahead of when it was to arrive. I would have liked to have had an easier time getting multiple books to the same address for only one shipping cost. I think it can be done, but is a difficult program for ordering it is not user friendly.
