useful and handy.......2007-08-21

My broker's website provides these S&P reports online in pdf format, updated frequently throughout the year, but I like to have the annual book at my fingertips too. I like to browse through the book to familiarize myself with the companies in the S&P 500, and to get investing ideas. The book is published annually in approximately mid-December, containing the reports as of early November of that year. For buy-and-hold investing, I look at the "Investibility Quotient" S&P gives each company, and the company's ten-year dividend history, among other things.

Some years I buy the annual Morningstar Stocks 500 book too.

Detailed with information for a lot of years but ..........2007-05-13

I found this guide very interesting and with a lot of details about past years. Very important for me the book value per share and other information useful in a value investing approach. However I expected to find more long term considerations about the business in the long term and the quality of the management

I love owning this book and I generally buy the new edition every year. My investment company offers the S&P reports on their website, but I like to own the book so I can easily browse it, mark it up, flag specific stocks with Post-It-Notes, and so on. I focus quite a big on Standard & Poor's proprietary "investability quotient percentile" [IQ]for my buy-and-hold stock decisions. (I also take a careful look at the ten-year dividend history.) You will also find five-star buy vs sell ratings, target price and when set, earnings/dividend rating, fair value, volatility, relative strength, key stock statistics, dividend data, and LOTS of other information. There is quite a bit of interesting and well-written prose about each company, too---it's not all charts and numbers.

There are two very contrasting approaches to reading this book and learning about organizational design. The more traditional approach is to read the book, and then use the OrgCon on cases and applications. The second approach is to begin with the OrgCon software and only examine the book as you find it helpful. Which approach is better? It is your choice, not ours. A Veil is Lifted.......2007-02-13

Neumann's insight of this intricate psychology simply amazed me. I read this book a couple of years ago so I have a difficult time recalling particular passages. What did strike me though was how the fear of the feminine, is so often morphed into the blaming of 'woman.' What I took from this book is that the fear of the feminine, is the fear of coming to consciousness, a fear of developing a deeper relationship to one's self or soul. Unfortunately, this fear of the feminine principal often becomes distorted and turned into humanity's fear of 'woman.' What is feared, ultimately, is what grants freedom. In other words, like Eve, the feminine principal may seduce, but it is in the call to higher consciousness.

This may actually be the best book I have ever read. The principles can be applied to all aspects of life, so it's certainly for anyone. It's a shame that it's not more widely known, but word of mouth should help to make this book the classic it should be.

Okay, for those of you wondering what's in the book, it has a lot of very insightful information and it is written very well. Lots of books such as these may babble on and on about some of the philosophies, but this book is very to the point. It doesn't, by any means, skimp on information, it's just very direct and efficient. The writing in many ways is consistent with the teachings within. Read the book...... EVERYONE!!!!

A Must.......2007-01-26

I agree that truth prevails over deception, but this book isn't about spreading the Good News, it's about learning how to train your body, mind and spirit in the ways of martial arts, but not just in that specific field but in any, you would only have to replace words in the text with their corresponding counterparts for the situation.

I find that anybody learning martial arts would definetly benefit from the teachings from this book, especially those learning any art focused around a sword (Iaido, Kendo, Iaijutsu, ...). Also, the leadership area of the book is great and easily transposed to any field.

If you are a Martial Arts instructor I suggest reading a teaching from this book to every class you teach and if possible, focus the training of the day on that which was read or will be read afterwards.

Master of Life, Deep Wisdom from the Martial Arts.......2005-05-28

This is my favorite book on the Martial Arts and I keep it as a treasure in my library.

In fact, next to the Bible, this is probably my favorite book. The life lessons in this book are invaluable.

You actually have three books in one.

Book One: The Book of the Seven Masters deals with the Body and Physical tactics to overcome a enemy.

Book Two: Leadership, promotes high moral and ethical base. The values of the immovable mind.

Book Three: Enlightenment is the seeking to become one with God, Nature and the Universe, the Spirit.

Therefore, the relation is that to be complete human being in life the Physical tranforms the mind and the mind transforms the Spirit.

To be a Martial Arts Master is to be a Master of Life. To seek control of the Mind, Body and Spirit.

Something that Western culture can not comprehend is Zen, is not really a religion in as sense but a philosophy. The lessons in this book actually support Christian thought and views.

This book is a guideline to live a long, happy and ethical life in harmony with yourself and others around you while at the same time promoting a rock solid value system and ethical base that does not condone or support immoral behavior of any kind.

A Reader.......2004-12-27

I bought this book - and I regret it, gomen-nasai. It's filled with all of the expected cliches, and the content has no lasting deep meaning.

Take, for example, the premise that the unethical practice of using deception and confusion to forestall one's opponent makes one strong. A truly strong warrior is able to force one's enemies to confront the truth, after which the defeated opporent becomes the student and future teacher. The fatal flaw of this book is that it supposes to teach "the way" (as if there were only one), and blatantly seeks to push the so-called 'secret tactics' as metaphorically relevant for real-life confrontations, without ever overcoming the faults it identifies in its own first chapter (hei-ho-kaden-sho).

Anyone who adopts this book as their manual for how to deal with potentially real or perceived confrontation will be forever stuck in the self-defeating mode of the arrogant aggressor.

A much deeper and more penetrating book is "Be Like Water: Practical Wisdom from the Martial Arts", which more correctly stresses the utility of mastering the art of threat assessment.

gomen-nasai, but I say avoid this book. It will send you on an errant journey.

A Seminal Work.......2003-12-31

This book is a very deep research text. It comprehensively unites, comments on and extends past writings on martial arts.

Beautiful calligraphies notwithstanding, it is not a work for the coffee table. In an attempt to properly understand the content, this reader was slowed down to about three pages a day.

In turn, rewards are sweet and plentiful. Master Tabata characterizes clearly how the basic tenets and spiritual practice of martial arts are different from other strands of eastern philosophical and religious traditions.

This book will be seminal, as it combines scholarly rigour and original insight to establish martial arts as an independent spiritual system. It traces its roots in India and East Asia but highlights its original contributions over traditional Buddhist or Confuzian beliefs and ideals.

It also gives helpful advice on how to beat up your opponent in a match.

This book is indispensable for any instructor or serious practitioner of martial arts. It will be the standard reference work for anyone trying to discover the meaning and foundations of martial arts.

Great Handbook.......2006-06-29

I got the spiral bound version and it stays right next to my dictionary on my desk. There are always little things that confuse me when I am typing (which one do I use affect/effect, where do I put this comma or should it be a semicolom, etc.)It is the only book I turn to. The computer can catch most of them, but when my grammar checker is confused, I turn to this great book.

I bought it for a composition course, and even though I sold all the rest of the books needed for school, I kept this one. It is well worth the price for this great guide. I have never before seen so much useful information so nicely compacted. I love the two sections: commonly confused words and frequently misspelled words.

Great guide to help become a critical writing expert.......2005-09-21

This book was an assigned textbook for a college class, however my professor encouraged each class member to consider keeping this small handbook as a great resource for any type of writing. It includes concise suggestions on grammar, critical thinking skills when writing a persuasive paper of any kind. I used it especially for writing essay's and research papers during the term and will definately use it in the future. I am glad that I purchased this book with the ring binder option instead of regular binding. This has been helpful when I'm reviewing a section because it lays flat and folds easily. It is a small book packed with big ideas for better writing.

This volume is a simple and a useful tool for anyone who is interested in improving his/her writing. This book is organized in 7 parts: Grammar; Sentence Errors; Sentence Clarity and Variety; Punctuation; Mechanics; Diction; and Paragraphs, Essays, and Research Papers. It also includes two glossaries: one of Usage and the other of Grammatical Terms. It offers the basic and essentials of grammar and usage. It also includes the rules for punctuation and the necessary elements for making up good paragraphs, essays, and research papers. This book belongs to a particular kind of reading: the one you never finish to read because you always have to check it if you want to write better! . The amazing adventure of writing is a hard task. As a non native speaker, to write in English could be a terrible nightmare. Doubtless, "The Brief English Handbook" is going to accompany me from now on.

Another Hot Episode From SG-5!!!.......2004-12-25

Ms. Kent's latest SG-5 episode is Julian Samms story and it's just has hot as the previous titles. This is a very short story with a total of 117 pages. As a result you will get a whole lot out of very little.

Julian Samms has a dark past and as a result he likes to get in do his job, and get out. That changes when he tangles with the beautiful Katrina Flurry. She is not fitting into his mental slot of being a high maintenance flirty piece of work. Instead she turns all of his perceptions on their ear. His job is to keep her alive. He can do that without falling in love. Right?

Katrina has bad taste in men and now her last boyfriend has left his mark on her...someone wants her dead and they are not going to stop hunting her until she is pushing up daisies. On top of all that the man that is suppose to keep her alive makes her melt. He is yummy, and bad, and she wants him. All she has to do is stay alive. No problem...

This was a fast paced read and the attraction and chemistry is instant between Julian and Katrina. Despite the lenghth this was a well fleshed out read. I highly recommend this series if you like suspense, yummy hero's, and spicy love scenes!

The Samms Agenda by Alison Kent is one hot scorcher.

Julian Samms is a no nonsense, by the book operative for SG-5. His latest assignment is to get Katrina Flurry to safety and watch over her until another agent takes care of the threat on her life.

Katrina Flurry a society columnist is coming off of a bad relationship. She didn't realize until it was too late, that what she was led to believe about Peter Deacon was all lies.

Now there is a hit man out to silence Katrina. Julian and Katrina are on the run. Once they are at the safe house their attraction sets the night on fire. But danger is lurking.

The Samms Agenda is a heart pounding, palm sweating, fan yourself read. This is a must read series.

a fabulous erotic romantic suspense thriller .......2004-12-06

The Smithson Group SG-5 Agent Julian Samms is assigned to protect Cosmopolitan Arm candy syndicated columnist Katrina Flurry from a sadistic hitman, Benny Rivers. Spectra wants to insure that the girlfriend of one of their proper businessman fronts Peter Decon has nothing that could hurt their operations.

Bullets are fired at Katrina, but Julian manages to get her out of the situation safely. As they flee together, she realizes that this by the book hunk is her soulmate that she has waited twenty-eight for him to arrive. The story line never slows down as Benny (as deadly a sexual predator professional killer to grace a novel in a long time) never fails at his assignment. Each of the first three tales (see THE BANE AFFAIR and THE SHAUNESSEY ACCORD) can stand alone yet once a reader will learn they can't taste just one of Alison Kent's quintet.

Julian is haunted by the memories of unspeakable violence in his past and it doesn't appear that he will ever get beyond it. Katrina is a beautiful, intelligent, witty and sensual woman who isn't at all the bit of fluff that Julian first thought her to be. The two of them hit the ground running in an attempt to stay alive; with intrigue, suspense and passion, this book will keep you glued to your seat until the finish. This has been an exceptional series so far and I highly recommend giving yourself the pleasure of reading all five books in this series.
