Book Description
From the Enron debacle to the Martha Stewart scandal, trust in business practices and in corporate leaders has been seriously jeopardized, hitting an all-time low. According to Gilbert, in his latest book, The Workplace Revolution, the problem stems from a relentless work ethic, the tireless pursuit of profit, and the conflict between business values and human values.
Finally, people are waking up to the fact that they are not getting back what they give to their employers. Gilbert's Workplace Revolution is the book to guide us and provide personal strategies and corporate methodologies for improving overall health in the workplace and restoring trust between business leaders and their employees. He writes for worker and CEO alike and provides concrete exercises for turning the experience of work into a spiritual, ideal-based, life-enhancing adventure while still meeting corporate goals.
Customer Reviews:
Well Worth a Read.......2005-06-18
I love the way this book pulls together the personal experience of work and how it contributes (or doesn't) to one's development with an analysis of the state of the corporate soul. If you're interested in the former and have read book such as David Whyte's Crossing the Unknown Sea, Matthew Fox's The Reinvention of Work, or Greg Levoy's Callings, or if your reading tastes run toward the latter (Christine Arena's Cause for Success, Arianna Huffington's Pigs at the Trough, and The Soul of Capitalism by William Greider), you'll appreciate what Gilbert is up to here. His point is that lurking behind the obvious connection there's a profound interdependence between corporate success and personal growth. His hope, and cautiously optimistic hypothesis, is that both are increasingly defined in terms of a social consciousness that's informed by spirituality and progressive ideals of service, sustainability, mindfulness, and cooperation. At the heart of his analysis beat the questions: Is it possible to ask companies to truly move beyond self-interest? And, if not, can progressive-minded people be fulfilled working for such companies? Gilbert synthesizes a good deal of the writing being done in this arena, and his book has a great bibliography for people interested in delving further. A really good book for anyone who's questioning their work life.

Book Description
Embracing a wide range of disciplines, including physiology, biochemistry, veterinary medicine and feed technology, this book covers every type of farm animal found in both developing and developed countries, including cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, horses, fish, deer, buffaloes, rabbits and camelids, as well as ducks, turkeys, ostriches and other birds. The encyclopedia contains approximately 2000 entries from 90 contributors. These entries range from short definitions to more discursive articles, all entries are fully cross-referenced to aid further research.
Book Description
Courageous Souls explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, prior to birth for purposes of spiritual growth. The book contains ten true stories of people who planned physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents. Because very different life challenges are often planned for similar reasons, readers who have not faced these specific challenges will nevertheless see themselves - and their motivations as a soul - in these stories. As readers come to realize that they themselves planned their lives, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, peace, and gratitude.

So that's why . . ........2007-10-08
If you ever want to get into the backside of your pre-birth planning of your life challenges, read Courageous Souls by Robert Schwartz. Want to know why you attract illness, accidents, birth defects? Want to know why you chose a life of alcoholism or drug addiction, or are around someone who has? Read this book. The stories, while may start out slow at first, are powerful and insightful. Just stick with them. Robert uses mediums who are able to access multiple guides at one time, and your primary guide and listen in on conversations between you and your soul group.
not credible.......2007-09-30
I got to p. 300 and started reading another book. I found this book painstakingly slow to read, the information provided by the mediums: farfetched, and the conclusions drawn by the author, hard to swallow. Often, when mediums are tired, their accuracy rate diminishes. I never heard of any of the mediums used in this book. Robert Schwartz makes everything so complicated when the subject matter is really quite easy to understand. The book just doesn't flow easily and it's not a page turner in my opinion. I'm a believer, but this book really is a waste of time and money. Read Journey of the Soul by Michael Newton, PhD. Instead of using mediums, he enters the superconsciousness of his clients and elicits information from them directly about their experiences on The Other Side.
An Empowering Way to Reframe Painful Challenges in Our Lives.......2007-09-17
It has been said that asking oneself the question, "Who was I before I was born?" can teach us the most about our true spiritual identity -- yet few of us have been so enlightened as to have heard the full reply. COURAGEOUS SOULS takes this starting point one step further by exploring just how we may have crafted our entire life around all of our life circumstances -- both the high and the low points.
What sets Robert Schwartz's book apart from other books about spirituality, reincarnation and the afterlife is his organized use of intuitive readings as companion pieces to accompany the various life stories he includes. These intuitive sessions provide a deep sense of interconnectedness and unconditional love shared in our lifetimes which we sometimes lose sight of, as well as insights into how we continue learning life lessons from one life to the next. The stories include descriptions of people who have experienced tremendous suffering who are greatly inspired and relieved to see an underlying sense of purpose and meaning to all they have gone through.
COURAGEOUS SOULS is an exceptional book for anyone interested in exploring the true nature of their spiritual identity, who is willing to keep an open mind regarding the value of some of the most painful challenges we humans face in our lives on Earth; this is highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to reframe and find deeper meaning from the painful challenges, setbacks or hardships in their lives.
Some of life's challenges explained........2007-09-06
.
Before I even finished reading this book, I ordered more and had them sent to my friends. This book is amazing.
Told through many soul journies, Robert Schwartz brought in the talents of true mediums who were able to discover decisions that these people made before they were born - again. He did not use just one medium, but several, and they are listed in the back of the book. The individuals who shared their stories are also listed with email addresses -- and if they are able and have the time they will answer your questions.
This book came to me at a time I really needed to be reminded of my own experiences through many lives and the time between our next life. The stories are beautiful because they are able to explain why certain tragedies happen to a person.
I highly recommend this book, especially to those with open and searching minds.
Why Human Challenges Exist!.......2007-08-28
Courageous Souls is highly recommended to anyone trying to understand the suffering, tragedy or loss that has caused them to question life, death and/or God. And who among us is not inflicted by such challenges and questions in our lifetime? In my eight years researching life after death, spirituality and life purpose, I have discovered no better explanation of why human challenges exist than what is so eloquently written in Robert Schwartz's book.

Customer Reviews:
useful, in spite of.......2003-12-29
This book is useful in the sense that it helps clarify, and shows the hierarchy of, many of Jung's concepts of deep psychology. However, it has several shortcomings. The most important of these is that, even though the author insists on the importance of inner work with all the concepts explained, he never indicates how this inner work is to be performed. For instance, he states the importance of the four functions of consciousness and the typology that consequently people belong to; however, after insisting on this throughout many pages, and saying that interpersonal relations, especially in the work place, are easier and more conflict-free if we consider the typology of people, he goes on to tell us that there are two ways to find out this typology: a test performed by a therapist or constant study of the person during a long period of time -hardly a very practical way of solving interpersonal conflicts in your work place or of preparing a meeting. With most of the other concepts explained, the suggestions of practical action are even vaguer; only in the two last chapters there is a haste, not terribly detailed, explanation of how to work with dreams and active imagination. So much for the practical, applicable side of this book. Another serious shortcoming is that, when the author explains many of the abstract issues of deep psychology, he rarely gives examples taken from real people; he rather gives invented examples such as, "when a person is under the influence of a negative shadow he or she may...". This invented examples are often very exagerated, suposedly to show the author's sense of humour, and they do little to clarify the issues compared to real-life cases. When real-life cases are explained, only the conflict is given, but not usually how this was solved. However, as I have already said, this book is useful to understand many of Jung's complicated concepts, and as an introduction or first step in you journey of self-knowledge.
Everyday Applications of Jung's Theories.......2003-09-09
Dr. Eugene Pascal provides an illuminating book which clarifies many complex principles and concepts of Jung, bringing them into everyday reality. Most impressive are the chapters on on 'individuation', 'the shadow' and 'psychic wholeness'. His explanation of how symbols operate within dreams is quite outstanding. The most enjoyable chapter for me explained how myths and legends are enacted unconsciously within us. The author provides numerous examples of how archetypes, the anima and animus, and "the functions of consciousness", typology, helps us live in the world and resolve conflicts. How we "transform" ourselves is the main thrust of this book ... as Dr. Pascal observes ...in order to let our Light shine forth we must explore the Source of our energy. This is truly a fascinating book worth owning by anyone who is exploring Jung and consequently doing "inner work". The book is all about how we manifest our reality ... a truly magnificent journey!

Could have been more Practical.......2000-08-20
This is a lay-persons guide to Jungian theory and shows you how to uncover hidden aspects of your personality, how to interpret dreams, develop creativity and improve relationships. It conveys the essence and spirit of jungian thought in a simple and effective way. Lots of interesting stuff on complexes, archetypes and integrating the personality. I found the discussion of the dynamics of relationships very helpful. I just think more focus on practical implementatiuon in the form of exercises would have been even more helpful, otherwise you'll have to read the book over & over again. Includes a good bibliography and index.
An excellent introduction to Jungian Psychology.......2000-05-31
This book provides the clearest explanations I have seen yet of many of the stickiest concepts in Jungian psychology. The author's background in Jungian therapy and religious studies are blended together skillfully to produce a readable and instructive introduction to this fascinating subject.
The chapter on typology, a technique for understanding our inner selves and why we are not true to them, is one of the clearest I have ever read.
The concepts of persona, complexes, archetypes, shadow, Anima and Animus, etc., are presented clearly and directly. The author is always careful to ground the information in real-life language and experience, making it meaningful and applicable to the reader.
The book concludes with chapters on dream interpretation and active imagination, spurring readers to discover their own psychic process through the use of these powerful techniques.
While an introductory book, this work provides much to think about. The author's compassion and sense of humor are evident throughout. It is a worthy addition to the library of those interested in Jungian psychology and personal growth.
A thoughful and intelligent read with life-altering results........1999-04-12
When this book was recommended as the pre-read for a Caroline Myss workshop, I was apprehensive. I thought it might be way beyond my comprehension. To my delight I found the book very readable, highly interesting, provocative in the ideas and sound in application. Have you ever read a book and wished it was a workshop? This is it! Encore, Pascal!

The jewel of the nation.......2007-04-29
Jung Chang tells the extraordinary itinerary of Ching-ling Soong, one of the three daughters of a former US Methodist minister becoming a billionaire comprador in China, Charlie Soong.
She married her political hero, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founder of the Chinese republic. Sun Yat-sen was driven into he hands of the Bolsheviks, when all the aid he asked for his country was turned down by all Western countries. The only solution left was help from the communist regimes. His wife saw in the Communist Party the only real successor of her husband's revolution after his death.
Mme Sun Yat-sen's political influence was only marginal, although she changed the face of the world by hiding Ho Chi Minh in Shanghai in the years 1933-34.
In China, she boosted women's liberation by attacking feudal traditions, like arranged marriages.
Internationally, she supported the `Universal Peace' movement, the `The Hague Tribunal' for settling all political disagreements and the `League for Civil Rights' which came up against torture of political prisoners.
Being a staunch supporter of the CP, she was nevertheless briefly attacked during the Cultural Revolution and her movements were closely watched (`Burn this after reading').
Jung Chang's vision on Mao Ze-dong changed drastically since the publication of this book, wherein she characterizes Mao's infamous intervention during the communist Moscow meeting of 1957 as `too philosophical'. But, Mao really meant what he said: 'How many people will die if war should break out? Out of the world's population of 2,700 million, one third- or, putting the figure a bit higher, one half - may be lost ... The other half would remain while imperialism would be razed to the ground and the whole world would become socialist.' (sic!)
This short biography of an idealistic fellow traveler is a must read for all historians and Chinese scholars.

Book Description
Over the last three decades, coral-reef study has advanced rapidly, widening our understanding of their functional intricacy. These finely- tuned ecosystems have been exposed to many perils as a result of tourist pressure, anthropogenic eutrophication and pollution. A better understanding of coral reefs is therefore essential to their survival.
This volume is built around the key problems underlying the understanding of the structure and function of coral reefs as ecosystems. In each of these research fronts, former accomplishments are summarized and evaluated, and likely future foci are identified. Special attention is given to the interrelations of the different problems and processes which are important properties of these systems.
Coverage is given of recent advances in the understanding of the ways in which abiotic forces - like hydromechanics, light and nutrient regimes - have shaped the evolution and development of coral reefs. The roles of the various organisms that make up the reef community, in the harvesting, assimilation and transformation of energy and in the uptake, storage and recycling of nutrients, are analyzed. The ways to conserve coral reefs in the face of the increasing impact of various anthropogenic stresses are evaluated.
This will be the central reference work for specialists and advanced students, active in all aspects of coral-reef research, and will provide them with a balanced, stimulating view of the many facets of contemporary coral-reef science.
Book Description
Here are 75 novel and wonderful boats--some strange, some beautiful, all of them paragons of Philip Bolger's form-follows-function design philosophy. A planing microtrawler; a glass-galleried, beachable birdwatching boat; a fully enclosed ocean-cruising rowboat; cruising sailboats that take the ground at low tide; power, sail, and rowing boats from 6 to 95 feet--these are boats as only Bolger's unfettered imagination does them. This is the first collection of Bolger's work in almost 15 years. It is long overdue.
"Bolger is an eloquent writer and his comments run the gamut from hilarious to profound."--The Ensign
"Bolger brings a kind of youthful feeling to yacht design--he would rather make precedent than follow it."--WoodenBoat
"Bolger has a way of seducing even the lay reader into thinking about and beginning to understand boat design."--Cruising World
"Boat lovers who are used to designers who conceive the same boat over and over, camouflaged with a face-lifting here and there, will be amazed at Phil Bolger's diversity."--Boatbuilder
Customer Reviews:
A Guide to How Boats Work.......2007-08-07
When I first showed my copy of Boats with an
Open Mind to a friend with a custom-built, gold
plater 28' ketch, he said 'you paid money to
look at somebody's catalog....they're not even boats
you could get excited about'
In a sense, he's right. This really is a catalog
of boat plans by Phil Bolger and yes, I just bought
a big advertising brochure. His second comment is
more devastating. There are those of us who buy boat
books to drool over the pictures (I have a file
on my computer called 'boat porn') and these boats
are more often homely than pretty. Some few are so
ugly that you need not only an open mind but a great
sense of humor.
So why am I giving this book four stars? Because it's
written in a friendly, down-to-earth style that explains
the reasoning behind each boat. In the course of the
explanation, a reader develops a useful understanding of
the compromises that are involved in boat design. Bolger
is very frank about the trade-offs involved and very
clear in his explanations of them.
Finally, there are a few designs-the munroe-inspired
sharpies, the rowing boats sweet pea and spur and the schooners that have
an eccentric eye-appeal. Of course to learn the most and
enjoy the most of this book, it helps to have an open
mind.
--Lynn Hoffman, author of THE NEW SHORT COURSE IN WINE and
the novel bang BANG. ISBN 9781601640005
Boats with an Open Mind.......2005-10-23
The book is a good primer on different boat designs. Don't buy it expecting to build any of the boats enclosed straight from the book as it's not a "how to" book. There is a resource section in the back of the book that gives information on how to get building plans. It will shed light on the thinking that went into the designs, and from that standpoint, it will get your "creative juices flowing". Overall a good read that will open your mind to many design possibilties.
PCB's the man.......2005-08-27
This guy's boats go from traditional to... wacky, I guess you'd say. This might be his only book still in print. Too bad. I think he's got more that 600 designs and I want to see more.
Clever but Homely.......2003-08-12
I have to agree with the reviewers that find Bolger refreshing and candid as well as knowledgeable to a fault. This book is eminently readable and rereadable. There is no doubt that there are many thought provoking ideas here. There are some handsome boats here as well but frankly many are aesthetic eyesores. I have an interest in a build-it-yourself cruising sailboat in the 25-35' range and the most attractive boats here from a practical usable/buildable sense are really pretty hard to look at. On one hand Bolger complains about concessions to style suggesting that to make them you admit that you are ashamed of the boat - on another page he suggests painting a mural on the slab side of one of the larger sharpies - a concession to their huge billboard bland shape. This book is practically an icon of good sense/ideas but as a guide to a boat building/aquisition it leaves one a bit frustrated. As for the plans they are of course hard to read - like every designer the author is entitled to sell his designs (not that that is the point of the book). A failing is that the book does not give any guidance to where plans could be purchased. Even it they don't please this readers eye the bigger sharpies have to be considered!
I have read and re-read this book a dozen times!.......2003-07-20
OK, I admit it, I am enthralled with the genius of this boat designer, Phil Bolger. He has designed more boats than any person alive, 750+. This book reveals his thought process giving a window into his remarkably creative mind.
I especially enjoy how he chooses to draw upon the vast tradition and the history of boats designed throughout history, and then updates and synthesizes these boat designs to reflect modern materials and his new ideas. Bolger reveals that in many cases; the modern school of boat design is a 'The King has No Clothes' proposition. Bolger repeatedly questions the conventional wisdom, much in a similar way to how Buckminster Fuller questioned 20th Century architectural and industrial design ideas.
I simply can't wait for the next book by Phil Bolger! In the mean time I will re-read this one, and read his frequent articles in the magazine _Messing About In Boats_.

101 American English Proverbs.......2005-09-07
It is an excelent book. English is my second language and this book has helped me to understand how american people talks.
Now I'm also using the language that american people use for the daily talks.
Thanks.
Enjoyable reading for non-native and native English speakers.......2003-01-17
SO far, so good! My students enjoy these "proverbs" and lively discussion ensues. Some of the example scenarios using the expressions aren't that great - sometimes a bit elevated for intermediate ESL sudents. So just make up your own...
Smart Way for Studying Proverbs.......2001-12-17
This book is really cool. I am very pleased indeed to recommend it for those studying proverbs. The author of this book, Mr. Harry Collis, is so smart. He presented a very good number of common English proverbs in a genius way of learning. It is to learn and have fun in the same time. He really wants his readers to sit down, relax, read, learn, and laugh!!!
He, first, had had his book illustrated with vary funny cartoons, which make the readers zealous to read and read. Secondly, the readers, then, will read a dialogue and within each dialogue they will learn and comprehend a proverb in the same time. Namely, both the proverb and its meaning are clearly explained inside the dialogue, not to mention, they are bolded.
I am sure that those whose mother language is not English will find studying proverbs as well as idioms is much easer than learning English vocabularies.
(...)

Book Description
A 2005 ECPA Gold Medallion winner!"New Testament theology is essentially missionary theology," writes I. Howard Marshall. Founded on a sure-footed mastery of the data and constructed with clear thinking lucidly expressed, this long-anticipated New Testament theology offers the insights born of a distinguished career of study, reflection, teaching and writing on the New Testament. Marshall's New Testament Theology will speak clearly to a broad audience of students and nonspecialists. But even on the most familiar ground, where informed readers might lower their expectations of learning something new, Marshall offers deft insights that sharpen understanding of the message of the New Testament. Here is a New Testament theology that does not succumb to the fashion of settling for an irreconcilable diversity of New Testament voices but argues that "a synthetic New Testament theology is a real possibility. Beginning with the Gospels and Acts, proceeding to each of Paul's letters, focusing then on the Johannine literature and finally looking at Hebrews and the remaining general epistles, Marshall repeatedly stops to assess the view. And gradually he builds up a composite synthesis of the unified theological voice of the New Testament. On the way toward this synthesis, Marshall highlights clearly the theological voices of the individual New Testament books. Thus, his New Testament theology serves also as a sort of introduction to the New Testament books, making it double as an attractive complement to book-by-book introductions to the New Testament. Here is a New Testament theology that will not only guide students and delight teachers but also reward expositors with a lavish fund of insights for preaching.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent NT Theology--Evangelical Perspective.......2005-07-15
Marshall is a well recognized scholar. His Theology will be something I turn to again and again. In a world with so many divergent views, it is nice to find someone who writes and thinks so close to the way I do.
A Great Reference for Ministers!.......2005-04-19
With the massive amount of religious books being published these days, it would be helpful to know, as a minister, what to buy and what not to buy. This book is a definite buy! It has proven to be helpful to me in my preaching, teaching, and research as I have served as a minister in a local Protestant congregation. I.H. Marshall is one of the best biblical scholars of our time and this is perhaps his magnum opus.
Basically he goes through each section of each document of the New Testament relating to his readers the theological themes found therein. Thus, when preaching or teaching a passage, all you would have to do is open this book up to the appropriate page and get some helpful insights (after you have done the hard work of mulling over the text yourself of course!).
In case you are concerned about the investment, understand two things. Since the author is I.H. Marshall, this book is 1) Evangelical and 2) thoroughly researched.
This is no willy-nilly, off-the-cuff work; it is is a great book and a must have for those who minister in the church!
