Book Description
In Beyond Sweatshops, Theodore Moran examines the impact of FDI in manufacturing on growth and welfare in developing countries, and explores how host governments can take advantage of the contributions of foreign investment while avoiding the hazards to lower-skilled workers.
The first part of the book examines multilateral proposals designed to place a floor under the treatment of workers around the world, contrasting a WTO-based system to enforce labor standards with "voluntary" arrangements, including corporate codes of conduct, certification organizations, and "sweatshop free" labeling. It explores the pros and cons of adding a "living wage" requirement to the ILO's core labor standards.
By analyzing the evidence from a variety of developing countriesin Asia, Latin America, and AfricaMoran demonstrates that most FDI goes to industrial sectors that employ trained workers who are not easily exploited. The flow of FDI to plants that produce electronics, auto parts, industrial equipment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment, paying production workers two to five times more than what is found in lower-skilled operations, is twenty-five times the flow to garment, textile, and footwear plants.

Book Description
The Work and Family Handbook is a comprehensive edited volume, which reviews a wide range of disciplinary perspectives across the social sciences on the study of work-family relationships, theory, and methods. The changing demographics of the labor force has resulted in an expanded awareness and understanding of the intricate relations between work and family dimensions in people's lives. For the first time, the efforts of scholars working in multiple disciplines are organized together to provide a comprehensive overview of the perspectives and methods that have been applied to the study of work and family. In this book, the leading work-family scholars in the fields of social work, psychology, sociology, organizational behavior, human resource management, business, and other disciplines provide chapters that are both accessible and compelling. This book demonstrates how cross-disciplinary comparisons of perspective and method reveal new insights on the needs of working families, the challenges faced by those who study them, and how to formulate policy on their behalf.

Customer Reviews:
Just a handbook.......2006-11-22
I bought this book as a requisite for a class (like a textbook), and I'm not the only one who thinks that the book is not helpful to understand any subject, just to know what the "recent" (not so recent, since the studies they use are pretty old) contrversies and points of view are. It might be good for professional in IO, but not at all for srudents, not even for graduates students (like we are).

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to provide the user with a concise summary of the physical properties, detection methods, handling precautions and of the biochemical and physiological effects of gases and fumes found in the working environment so that they may be handled safely.
The substances dealt with in this book vary considerably in their properties, whether it be chemical, physical or physiological, and as a consequence in the risks they pose to health and safety and the conditions demanded of staff and workplaces which handle them. It is therefore important not only to be able to identify both the gases and fumes themselves, but the dangers which they pose and the consequent measures necessary to deal with those dangers, whether it be as a precautionary measure or in response to an incident. For these reasons the availability of the data contained in this extremely useful book will be of vital importance to all staff on sites where such substances are used as well as too those who may need to react to an accident involving their use such as fire-fighters, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other emergency response staff.

Book Description
After studying the life and work of Viktor E. Frankl for decades, William Gould wrote this book so that sudents of counseling and psychotherapy who want to add a spiritual dimension the counseling process would have access to an easy-to-understand exposition of the theory. Viktor E. Frankl is well-known as an existential, pragmatic, metaphysical philosopher, and one of the primary tasks of this book is to show how and why this philosophical mix has made Frankl a unique and especially compelling voice. This in-depth, scholarly work describes Frankl's life and theories and compares them with other psychotherapy and philosophy theories, while revealing how those theories fit into current life.
Customer Reviews:
Overview of Philosophies.......2002-05-20
This book compares Frankl's teachings to many different psychologists and philosophers from Plato and Aristotle to BF Skinner, Carl Rogers, Freud, and many others who you may recognize. Each chapter compares and contrasts Frankl to different people.
'A good reminder of roots of Psychology in general, although I prefer, in studying Frankl, to read his own words more directly.
This is more of a textbook on psychology and a good review of philosophy and psychology from early times.
Not a quick and easy read unless you are already well versed in these areas.
First good broad approach to a symbol.......2000-03-26
William Blair Gould's (Univ. of Dubuque) book, in spite of its title, doesn't fall in the widespread trap of evaluating Viktor Frankl only as a "hero" of psychotherapy, in the name of his well-known journey to the undergrounds of world misery during World War II. His book is an animated picture of Frankl's influences, references and contacts with the world of Philosophy, trying to show how it affected his view of Science and Culture. A picture well put into paper, pleasurable to read and - what is a must to most readers - short, very (sometimes too) concise. In eight short chapters, Mr. Gould analyzes the connexions and influences between Frankl and other thinkers, such as: Freud (ch. I-II), Kant (III), James (IV), existentialism (V-VI), humanist psychology (VII). The book ends with a beautiful chapter, almost a "manifesto" (VIII), where Gould joins Frankl's voice for a renewed kind of psichology that bears attention to human beings, converting itself to a kind of supporting tool of human freedom. In short: well written book, good introductory reading about the thought of a very influential, insightful and constructive thinker of this century. Rated only tree stars, because it sometimes depends all too havily on second-hand sources, and because it's more suggestive than deep. But if you want to start thinking about "...Frankl's role as a philosopher and ... how his philosophy affects his theories and practice of meaning analysis" (page vii), go ahead. Absolutely.

Book Description
A booklet designed for women of all ages. Complete leg development is made easy with this booklet as it presents and understandable an orgainzed approach to training.
Customer Reviews:
Hot Legs.......2003-07-29
This book will certainly disappoint if you're hoping to learn something new. The first 15 pages talk about the importance of weight training and cardio/aerobic exercise over and over and over. The workouts are not at all the challenge you would expect if you want "Hot Legs". What this book offered was a repeat of the same information you get in all the fitness magazines. Nothing new, creative or challenging. I finished it so quickly I could send it back in tomorrow's mail and I just received it today. What a disappointment. Don't waste your money.
Good training info!.......2003-02-07
What a nice, concise guide to shaping up the legs. Logical sequence and good exercises are given throughout the book.
Not Impressed!.......2000-05-30
I did not find this book to be very helpful at all. Although it did explain the exercises, I would have also liked it to include a picture of each movement as well.
Lean, lovely legs.....simplified!.......2000-04-27
Despite its slim size (61pages) this book walks you step by step into developing a pair of lean, lovely legs. It includes a number of black and white photos featuring fitness stars such as Christine Lydon, Amy Fadhli, Marjo Selin, Dale Tomita and others. The book explains in detail how to create shapely legs with the right type of training. It describes the exercises that should be done and gives photos of many. It also includes training routines. Its divided into 6 sections which cover legs in general, the thighs, the hamstrings, the calfs, cardio/aerobic connection, and total leg training. The book pulls together a lot of information to help you organize your training to achieve the type of legs you want. The only drawback to the book is the writing style is very basic. For example the book opens with the following "Legs-like them or not you have a pair. Your legs are essential for getting you where you want to go." Once you get past this elementary writing the actual information given is excellent.

GREAT FOR THE ASPIRING COMIC WRITER!.......2003-05-28
This is a great text that takes you through the creative process of several unique writing styles. The variety of script and drawings from a host of authors, really made this book encouraging to the aspiring comic writer. I'm looking forward to getting Panel Two when it comes out.
Why didn't some body think of this sooner?.......2002-05-07
It seems like such an obvious good idea.
It's a wonderful glimpse into the creative process.
Just received it last night, and I'm already half through it. I haven't done that since I was eleven and got Stan Lee's How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way. Not that this book has any similarity to that one. This is not a how to book. Its a more intimate, than any instructional book. Its a similar difference in experience to watching a biography to reading someones private correspondence. The presentation adds to the feeling as well.
Better than seeing pencils, better than watching a demo, or hearing someone try to explain the creative process. You actually see it and are part of it because this is what the artist sees, while he is in the process.
As a comic book fan for years and creative hopeful (which I believe is a large part of the intended audience), I hope this is first in a long line.
Great job, thanks Mr. Gertler.
Cool, helpful, worth the read.......2002-04-04
One thing that's bugged me in my various efforts at writing a comic book script is that no reference I checked seemed to agree as to what format is right. As this book explains, that's because there IS no "right" or "wrong" format, just different ways to do it.
Every script in this volume shows you something. Gaiman's reads like a personal note to the artist, Wolfman shows how plot-first can work, McDuffie shows you how to work in a recap, Kevin Smith shows a more movie-script style of writing and Kurt Busiek's entry... heck, when I read the original comic book I thought it was one of the greatest comic book stories I ever read, but the script for "The Nearness of You" just made it all the more powerful.
If you want to try to write comics, you could do a lot worse than picking up this book.

Lots of information all in one handy book...a must for carrying around the park!!
Everything you need to know about the Disney World Resort.......2006-01-05
I've found that there are almost as many varieties of travel as there are travelers. Some like to travel by "the seat of their pants" while others opt for a more organized plan for their vacation.
In my experience, there is no substitute for research, pre-planning and organization prior to a vacation, trip, cruise or world adventure. So much time can be conserved if preparations are made BEFORE traveling versus the amount of time wasted in attempting to learn, correct, amend or change DURING the period which was suppose to be devoted to enjoying the vacation.
PASSPORTER for the Walt Disney World Resort provides the opportunity for the visitor, visitors or visiting families to be completely organized for their visit to Disney World. First of all, the guide is a complete planner as well as an organizer. After the visit, PASSPORTER becomes a valuable souvenir or keepsake of everything that was experienced during the visit.
PASSPORTER explains just about everything one needs to know about Disney World. It then offers advice for the many things the visitor wishes to see, experience and accomplish. A day-by-day planner provides the visitor the opportunity to lay out a daily itinerary of what to do, where it is and when to do it. Add to this detailed agenda some personal record keeping and the visitor(s) will have a complete and memorable souvenir of his, her or their fabulous experience at Disney World.
Again, I highly recommend PASSPORTER because so much more time can be spent enjoying Disney World if preparations and plans are made PRIOR to the visit rather than DURING it.
Don't go to Disney without this Book!!!.......2005-12-10
When I began planning our first "family" trip to Walt Disney World in 2001 I bought or borrowed every guide book imaginable. This book was the ONLY one that made the first trip and every trip since. This book walks you through every step of making your Disney vacation a magical one. The information is up to date and updated on the author's website. The Passporter Pockets are perfect for carrying with you into the park too. The community you will find if you visit the authors website is equally amazing. The Marx's have managed to attract and keep some of the biggest Disney fans and officianados you will find anywhere.
Buy this book. You will not regret it.

I really am really enjoying this book. It is very handy for keeping all of your Walt Disney World information right at your fingertips. This makes an excellent companion to the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.
This book is packed with useful information, maps, and pockets.
