Book Description
Changing Course is a practical introduction to new and necessary methods of running businesses so that the realities of business and the marketplace support the realities of the environment and the needs of human development.
Gathering the expertise of more than 50 leaders of multinational corporations and backed by an array of case studies showing existing best practices, Changing Course provides an extensive analysis of how the business community can adapt and contribute to the crucial goal of sustainable development - which combines the objectives of environmental protection and economic growth. All of its recommendations are linked by the belief that only by allowing market forces to operate freely and integrating the "polluter pays" principle into environmental and economic policy can sustainable development be achieved.
Changing Course focuses first on the often adversarial relationship between business and government in chapters that discuss full-cost pricing and market signals, energy, capital markets, trade, and managing change. It shows how environmental costs, which are often invisible, can best be factored into production, investment, and trade. And it calls for a rational long-term energy strategy that balances the energy needs for economic development with a policy shift toward the payment of pollution costs and energy efficiency - changes that demand new thinking and increased flexibility by policy makers in both the public and the private sectors.
Changing Course then explores business to business relationships, beginning with the sensitive topic of corporate reporting in environmental areas and discussion of how an environmentally conscious firm is managed. Chapters look at optimal products and processes, product stewardship in retail and trading companies, at new practices for such renewable resource industries as forestry and agriculture, and at the need for new long-term partnerships to boost economic development and environmental standards in the developing world.
Changing Course concludes with a detailed look at the implications of sustainable development for business in the developing world, where, as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi pointed out, poverty itself is a great polluter.
Stephan Schmidheiny is a Swiss industrialist, Chairman of the Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the Principal Advisor for Business and Industry to the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (ECO'92).

Book Description
The Ivey Casebooks Series is a co-publishing partnership between SAGE Publications and the Richard Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. Due to their popularity in more than 60 countries, approximately 200 new cases are added to the Ivey School of Business library each year. Each of the casebooks comes equipped with instructor’s resources on CD-ROM. These affordable collections will not only help students connect to real-world situations, but will benefit corporations seeking continued education in the field as well.
Broadening the scope of environmental forces to a global rather than a domestic context leads to cross-country comparisons that add complexity to the subject matter, enrich analytical theories, and heighten the interest of students. Students gain an appreciation for the many ways in which environmental forces interact, creating a set of risks and opportunities that is unique in each country and that must be evaluated in formulating trade and investment decisions.
Cases in the Environment of Business offers an outstanding collection of relevant, classroom-tested cases. In discussing the cases, students will participate in managerial decisions in an international context. Most cases deal with a variety of environmental forces, but generally a single set of forces plays a predominant role. The instructor's resources on CD-ROM includes detailed 6-10 page casenotes for each case, preparation questions for students to review before class, discussion questions, and suggested further readings.
Cases in the Environment of Business addresses the following five sets of environmental forces:
-
Industry Structure Responses to strategies of customers, suppliers, and competitors, ; dependence of profitability on unique value-added attributesand the shift of certain activities to low-wage countries
-
Macroeconomic Variables Income levels and growth rates, foreign exchange rates, inflation rates, interest rates, and unemployment rates
-
Political Variables Regulations, financial incentives, taxation, foreign investment restrictions, and international trade and investment agreements
-
Societal Variables Labor and environmental practices, ethics, corporate social responsibility, boards of directors, and demographics
-
Technological Variables Technological infrastructure and the pace and direction of technological changes, including, in particular, the Internet and e-business.

Biological control of insect pests, plant pathogens and weeds, is the only major alternative to the use of pesticides in agriculture and forestry. As with all technologies, there are benefits and risks associated with their utilization. This book is the outcome of a unique gathering of specialists to discuss and debate the benefits and risks associated with biological control. After intensive interaction it was concluded that we must place greater emphasis on the benefits, while not ignoring the potential risks. Customer Reviews:
An indispensible guide to improving one's outlook on life........1999-07-13
This book inspired me to attend the Getting Well program in Orlando founded and ran by the author, Dee Brigham, following major surgery. This book and the concepts therein summarize what is addressed during the program, and is an invaluable asset towards avoiding negative behavior and towards getting healthy again.
An excellent book for patients and practitioners.......1999-02-17
This book offers a comprehensive collection of practical strategies and case histories for anyone seeking to discover what behavioural medicine and psychoneuroimmunology can offer to a patient confronting a life threatening or 'quality of life' threatening condition. To the medical professional or therapist it is compelling and essential reading.

Book Description
Lifelong Michigan resident Jim DuFresne, the author of numerous books on Michigan and the outdoors, guides bikers through Michigan's unequaled system of state parks and natural and wilderness areas, where the scenery and trails are as varied as anywhere in the country. As DuFresne notes in his introduction, "From sand dunes without even a blade of grass, to the towering monarchs of Hartwick Pines' virgin forests, from miles of beach that turn gold with every Lake Michigan sunset to one of the eleven thousand inland lakes where on a still evening bass rise to the surface like trout--all these wonders of the Midwest can be reached by hiking foot trails." The hikes in this completely revised and expanded second edition range from 1.5 to 35 miles in length. Hikers will learn where to find the best trailside fishing, birding, and wildlife watching, as well as where to go to find fall color and undisturbed backcountry camping. Each hike description includes directions to the trailhead; a detailed map; trail distance, difficulty, and hiking time; explicit trail directions, and a description of natural and historic features along the way.

MICHIGAN'S GREAT TREASURES.......2004-05-18
I recently had a friend of my wife comment on how I knew all the good and "secret" places to go in Michigan. This is not true, but I do often wonder at how people know of some of the truly great places to go in my home state.
Any knowledge that I might have comes from owning several books written by Jim Dufresne. Dufresne is among a handful of what I consider the best writers out there when it comes to the outdoors/travel. Happily, he lives in and writes about my home state.
I not only own this 50 hikes book, but I have books written by Dufresne on hiking with children in Michigan, Michigan's State Parks, the Porcupine Mountains, and the best campgrounds in Michigan. With the exception of the Porcupine Mountains book (which is of a narrower interest) all of these books are indispensable.
50 hikes in Michigan (there are actually 60 hikes listed) really does contain most of the best hikes in the lower peninsula of Michigan. From this book I learned of the Algonquin trail in beautiful and semi-remote Negwegon State Park (you won't find any brown signs on the main roads leading you there). This hike alone is worth the price of the book.
But why stop there?
You can also explore such places as the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the Manistee River Trail and the plethora of shorter trails in Waterloo State Recreation area. These hikes and the others listed in this well-written and engaging book are some of the best to be found anywhere. I only wish there were an Upper Peninsula edition.
Jim Dufresne himself, though not homegrown, is one of Michigan's great treasures. I recommend this book and others by him.

New to Michigan or new to hiking, this is a must read!.......2001-12-14
If you are new to Michigan or new to hiking, hiking guru Jim Dufresne's "50 Hikes in Michigan" is required reading.
From the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to the Ohio state line, "50 hikes" lists the wildest but easiest to find, easiest to hike trails.
"Wild" usually discourages the novice, however, rest assured these are all well traversed trails and usually well marked.
This is my second copy, and I bring it with me in the field. Having hiked nearly all of the trails in his book (including all of the North Country Trail segments, and all the others not in the book), I have learned to take this book with me on my hike.
A tip: keep it in a zip lock bag. Those of you who are familiar with Michigan's weather know--it may be sunny, but wait a few minutes, it could rain!

Great book!.......2007-08-15
Sutton explains and traces in a clear concise manner the origins of the illuminati and how this is relevant and explained in Bible prophecy.
This book is BAD........2006-11-11
Filled with historical inaccuracies that I caught during my first reading in highschool. The author apparently did not have access to simple refrence books.
Stay away.
Beware, downtrodden masses.......2006-05-27
This is obviously part of the massive Opus Dei conspiracy to take over the antichrist with the number of the beast using the illuminati's star weapon from atlantis. The abominable snowman has access to this weapon and we must find and protect him from the illuminati before it's too late and the day of the latter day saints is upon us. BEWARE THE FREE MASONS. THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN BY THEM IN AN ATTEMPT TO ROOT OUT THOSE WHO ARE THE HIDDEN WARRIORS OF THE LIGHT, THE TRUE MEMBERS OF THE AQUARIUS ANTI-CONSPIRACY. THEY ARE TAKING YOUR IP'S AS WE SPEAK AND ARE GOING TO HUNT YOU DOWN AND CAPTURE YOU FOR INTERROGATION. WE MUST FLEE MY ELITE-INTELLECTUAL BRETHREN AND ESCAPE THE GRASP OF THE ILLUMINATI, WHO HAVE CENTERED THEIR EMPIRE AS SHAREHOLDERS OF PEPSICO AND PROCTER & GAMBLE. AND WATCH OUT FOR PRESIDENT BUSH TOO.
We are truly the smartest of society, us, and the wiccans. We are the last ones safe from being brainwashed by american culture.
Informative and exposes the Illuminati.......2006-02-12
My whole life I have dealt with wanting the truth. Yes this book does expose ideas and beliefs of the Illuminati. Actually to the reader who says this is a pitch for 7th day adventist let me remind you thee are freemasons and illuminized freemasons in the 7th day adventist church. There are 2 or 3 people that will try to talk negative about books like this because they are BLIND and IGNORANT and they don't want to believe that this is actually happening and also because it is an attempt to give them a clear conscience. But I can tell you that the satanism/luciferianism is VERY much real and to those that do NOT know this and understand this, they should talk to Alex Jones for example of www.infowars.com who actually has the crust of what books like this talk about. Sure it is hard to fully expose and birn these kinds of sick and evil people to the forefront because they are the power elite of the world. But that does not mean we cannot protect ourselves and help others by knowing. Also the number 666 IS the mark of the beast and of satan/lucifer. To the person who said otherwise believes too much in occult teaching and half-baked history books. Most of what schools are teaching now is NOT the whole truth and usually not much of anything that is valuable to people. This is what is called "dumbing down of the educational system"! The Illuminati and those connected to them do NOT want us to expose them or know about them. They want us to be controlled. Look around you. If you want to continue to be like a few of these others who are so ignorant that they think they know it all, then they are already deceived and so are you. You can reach me at erniemusic2@yahoo.com anytime.
Terrific Book!.......2005-10-19
It explains the history of communism and so much more. Book One was much more biblical but this is more historical and speaks the language of regular people.

Book Description
For Joseph Seng and the other death row inmates in the line-up for the Wyoming State Penitentiary All Stars, baseball was literally a game of life or death. Based on primary source documents, some unearthed at the old prison itself, Playing for Time recreates the compelling story of this team of hardened criminals who excelled at a civilized game to become amateur sports heroes, and of the key player who led them to many victories. It is soon to be a major Hollywood motion picture.
Customer Reviews:
Poorly Researched.......2006-12-09
This is not a history book, it is fiction interwoven with incorrectly used facts. If you are interested in Wyoming history or Wyoming's prisons, go to the source. Visit the historic sites and ask for yourself.
Excellent book--well researched and objective........2005-10-14
This captures a piece of Wyoming territorial history that might have otherwise been lost forever. I have lived in Wyoming most of my life and had never heard of this story in the local lore. So I was immediately intrigued when I saw the subject of this book was about death row.
The book also gives the reader from any state something to think about from an historically interesting perspective on capital punishment. It would be unheard of now to grant someone a stay of execution simply because he was a great ball player. That was a simplier time, obviously, since it would be downright stupid in this day and age to allow a death row murderer out of his cell (let alone out of the prison) with running shoes on his feet and a baseball bat in his hand!
Another home run from Chris Enss!.......2004-11-21
Chris Enss has this unique gift of making history come alive in all her books. This is especially so in her new book, Playing for Time: The Death Row All Stars (Images of Baseball: Wyoming). Ms. Enss has definitely hit another home run with her meticulous research, and also by profusely illustrating this amazing book with vintage photographs, facsimiles of letters and sketches. Playing for Time: The Death Row All Stars reads like a well-paced adventure story and will appeal to baseball and history aficionados. Chris Enss is an author who is genuinely passionate about her craft -- telling a great story. I look forward to experiencing more of her works in the future and also the big screen treatment of Playing for Time: The Death Row All Stars.
