With all the trouble in the world, this book proves that there is power in the human spirit to rise up, show up and make a difference. What I like most about it is that the wide variety of stories are short enough to work well for a daily dose of inspiration. Each story comes with practical suggestions to get you moving! If you know anyone who is feeling down about life or work, this is a great gift. It helped me remember that I still have a lot left to give this world.

Imagine a book containing stories written by 50 authors, all with the same focus: uplifting the reader's spirit and encouraging the reader to make a difference in his/her community.
Positively M.A.D. is a series of short stories about real people doing real things to have an impact. While the stories will leave you inspired, I was touched by the insights that follow each story. The insights provide you that author's view of the principles that guide people to making a difference.

Based at Aleppo, Syria, it is one of 18 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), which is an international group of representatives of donor agencies, eminent agricultural scientists, and institutional administrators from developed and developing countries who guide and support its work. The CGIAR seeks to enhance and sustain food production and, at the same time, improve the socioeconomic conditions of people through strengthening national research systems in developing countries. ICARDA focuses its research efforts on areas with a dry summer, where precipitation in winter ranges from 200 mm to 600 mm. The Center has a global responsibility for the improvement of barley, lentil and faba bean, and a regional responsibility — in West Asia and North Africa — for the improvement of wheat, chickpea and pasture and forage crops and the associated farming systems. Much of ICARDA's research is carried out on a 948-hectare farm at its headquarters at Tel Hadya, about 35 km south-west of Aleppo. ICARDA also manages other sites where it tests material under a variety of agroecological conditions in Syria and Lebanon. However, the full scope of ICARDA's activities can be appreciated only when account is taken of the cooperative research carried out with many countries in West Asia and North Africa. The results of research are transferred through ICARDA's cooperation with national and regional research institutions, universities and ministries of agriculture, and through the technical assistance and training that the Center provides. A range of training programmes is offered, extending from residential courses for groups to advanced research opportunities for individuals. These efforts are supported by seminars and publications and by specialised information services.

Cheap contruction, but still a useful tool.......2007-02-17
Despite all the reviews here about shoddy construction, I bought this set of vocabulary cards. Since I already knew about the cheap paper boxes, I devised a plan - I laminated the box sheets before assembling them. That made them much stronger. When tearing the cards apart, you have to crease them first. I was able to separate the cards with only a couple of difficult spots. I separated the cards and assembled the boxes in less than an hour with my sister's help.
The cards themselves are well laid out and have all the information you need. They are easily used to study Latin-to-English and English-to-Latin.

These are extremely handy. Especially for the student who needs to study but doesn't have time to make their own flashcards.
The book is divided into chapters, and the vocabulary matches up perfectly with Wheelock. However, you will probably learn it better if you make your own cards. I still had great success with these.
Nice idea, poor execution.......2006-09-18
When picking up Latin again I went rather crazy with impulse buys, and this was one of them. It's also the only buy I regret thus far, the 501 Latin Verbs was worth it, the cumulative chapter vocab lists for wheelock's was too, and this seemed like a great idea but it wasn't.
The quality is exceedingly poor, not to mention their laughable attempt at a build-it-yourself storage box for the cards. When you tear the cards apart the edges make shuffling them somewhat difficult, and they're just messy looking. It also dawned on me that the idea of how to fix this product is incredibly simple.
Why not just sell a box of pre-cut vocabulary cards, last time I took Latin someone gave me such a box as a gift, though sadly I have no idea what happened to them, they were acurately cut and came in a sturdy storage box.
My other gripe with these cards is that they include the vocab from the chapter lists but not the other vocab found throughout the chapter such as "Quod Agis Hodie?" (How are you today?)
My advice, save your money, make your own flashcards, you'll learn more that way anyway.
A Great Latin study tool.......2005-09-20
The only work necessary to use these flash cards is to tear them out and laminate them. They come pre-perforated in a neat book format so you can tear them out as you progress through the book.
Giving Wheelock's Vocabulary Cards Some Credit.......2005-09-13
Despite having read the previous reviews I decided to give the vocabulary cards supplement for Wheelock's Latin a try. The short and sweet is that this is a very good investment. One must keep in mind the relation between the price and what one gets in return. No, the physical quality of the cards is nothing special, but that isn't anything one should feel the need to belly-ache over either. I would like to have thick-paper laminated cards as well, but I think most could agree that would cost us all well more than $22 -- thus no company has risked doing so. Instead you get cards similar in size and quality to Avery business cards. Further, one reviewer recommended buying Avery business card templates and making them yourself. I tried this, but it is far more time-consuming (not to mention frustrating) to make these yourself; and at the end of the day you aren't saving yourself any money this way either. As for the box idea included with the supplement, yes, it is a joke. But a few rubber bands and a cigar box (or something of that sort) will do just fine. So, if you are self-learning Latin like myself, you are making a good buy with this item (hence my five stars). Just don't treat the cards like a barbarian and they'll last you long enough to get you through Wheelock. Learning Latin is like going to war, so don't expect to have your weapons make it unscathed after the battle is fought. On that note, your actual Wheelock Text should be in taters by the time you outgrow it as well. Personally I take pride in the tatered, benoted and all-around deplorable condition of my texts and supplements I used when learning German. After all, the point of these cards is not to stick them on a bookshelf and admire them, but to help you learn Latin. For the latter, they are well worth the $22.

An Interview with Linkin Park
We got a chance to talk with Phoenix from Linkin Park and their photographer, Greg Watermann, about the new book. Here's what they had to say.
Amazon: In which ways is this book different than a tour program?
Phoenix: Our goal with From the Inside was to give our fans a more intimate view of what the Meteora touring cycle looked like. From studio, to video, to touring, the book captures moments spanning over a two year period. A tour book is a souvenir from a show.
Amazon: The book seems to lack a focus on the typography that has become an important part of your image. Is this intentional?
Phoenix: Everything we do is intentional. I've never been asked about our "typography" before... good eye.
Amazon: None of the photos are credited to band members. We think you need to get cameras.
Phoenix: Do you sell cameras on Amazon?
Amazon: Which photos best capture the intensity of the band on the road?
Phoenix: The live photos... especially those that show parts of the crowd.
Amazon: Which photos show fans your lighter side?
Phoenix: Any in which we are laughing/smiling.
Greg Watermann (Photographer): I do all my live photography with a Nikon F3. Everyhting is shot on film - Fujichrome 400 (color) and T-Max 3200 (b&w), using various ASA's depending on the venue. No autofocus. No zoom lenses. And I never use a flash.
Shooting Linkin Park live is like photographing a basketball game standing in the center of the court. There's so much energy on stage; they're constantly moving. And, it's happening in front of tens of thousands of people. The key is to be quick and accurate, and never get in the band's way.
Having an "All Access" situation is the ONLY way to get the best shots at a concert, but I have to make sure I'm not a distraction from the show. I have to figure out how comfortable a band is with having me around, and then operate right at the edge of that zone. That's always where the best photos are....
Amazon: Is it true that dipping the tip of a towel in water makes it a more effective weapon against your opponent? Describe your technique.
Phoenix: Definitely. The technique is simple. It's all about the snap. Toss your towel gingerly towards your opponent, and then snap it back quickly.
Amazon: Halo 2 is out. Does this mean we'll see a string of tour dates soon?
Phoenix: We have to write and record an album first... unless people would want to come out and see us play Halo 2 against each other.

My friend and I are vietnamese fans of LP and we must say that it's really hard for us here to buy anything about LP we like, because most websites never ship to Vietnam. But luckily, a friend of mine told me about this site. And the first thing we bought when we entered this site was "From the inside". This book is something I think every diehard fans of LP must have. It's full of beautiful pictures, lovely quotes from LP members and commentaries of Mr Hahn about all the videos in Meteora album. I found out a lot more about all the LP members and how they made music. You should really buy this book, I swear you'll be satisfied with it.

From the Inside: Linkin Parks Meteora is a really good book. It tells you how the band started out and gives you interesting facts about the band, Linkin Park. The book tells you what the fans mean to the band, and where the root of their songs and music comes from. A 'Rolling Stone' reporter gives you his insight on the band, and talks about the interview he had with Linkin Park. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Linkin Park, or to anyone in a band, or starting a band. They give you good tips to keep in mind if you are in a band and making music, and what to expect.

I've been a Linkin Park fan for probably about 6 years now and I'm amazed every time hear something new from them. The creativity and energy they put into each note, each measure of anything they put thier names on. That type of dedication is severely lacking in the music business today. I'm glad to say to say I'm a fan, without any hesistation or worries. I've read this book, 2 maybe three times and it's the kind of book you can go back to and get new views of the bands months or years after the initial read. It's a good job, well written and an easy read, not at all full of superflous language and unnecissary jargon. It proves they are a band of thier word, just average kids from SoCal, with nothing more in mind than making great music.
the perfect book from the perfect band.......2005-02-01
I just received this book in the mail and immediately read it cover to cover. The photographs are phenomenal! What was particularly moving for me (I no longer say amazing because the guys are so consistent with this) is the humility of the band members. In their interviews (both live and in this book) they are interesting as people, not just rock icons. I'm an older fan (43 years old) and a lot of people my age are surprised about my devotion to Linkin Park. It comes from listening to rock and roll for 30+ years and never hearing anything that comes close to the talent exhibited by this group. It is not just their individual talent, and they are all immensely talented individuals, but the synthesis of those individual talents into a sound that is unlike anything ever heard on this planet. Their music moves me in a spiritual way. Thank you Linkin Park so much for your music and this book!
