Customer Reviews:
Fast service. excellent condition.......2007-10-02
I received my book before expected. The condition was as it was stated- excellent. Very satisfy with supplier.
Too thorough...........2007-04-25
I'm a student at the University of Michigan business school and this was a book assigned for one of the introductory economics courses here. It is VERY verbose and this can be both beneficial and problematic. On one hand, this book would be really helpful for those who are weak in symbolic logic since Mishkin go to great lengths to explain everything. But some of the unnecessary extra explanations can be distracting to the point of confounding the essentials. It wouldn't hurt to trim 1/3 of the contents in each chapter.
good service.......2005-10-05
I ordered the book right before the hurrican Katrina. So my ordered was canceled, but they contacted me right away about my order and refunded my money back. Good service!!
Pretty good book for intermediate level.......2004-07-11
Design:
The book is designed well with appropriate headings and sub-headings making it smooth to read and navigate. The language used is also well understood.
Content:
This book introduces the various financial markets: bond, stock, foreign exchange and a brief discussion on derivatives. It gives a general idea and analysis behind the operating mechanisms of monetary policies, paving the way for further studies into the topics.
Its main focus is on the U.S. economy, and includes applications in the European Union and Asia as well. Small sections are devoted to real world applications, with reference to the concepts taught.
For who:
On the other hand, this book remains an introduction to monetary economies and is not for students seeking detailed analysis. Students should also have a basic background on economics in order to utilize the text to the fullest.
Wonderful and accessible book.......2002-11-23
Highly recommended for both dummies and people familiar with economics. The author presents an unbiased, unpartisan, clear introduction to numerous aspects of monetary policy, financial institutions, and financial markets. Along with factual material the author presents important and profound generalizations and principles.

Customer Reviews:
some valuable nuggets.......2006-06-25
The book is not as bad as some of the reviewers here might lead one to believe. Certainly it doesn't come with a magic potion of boss fixing, but the best advice I've heard came from this book - if you recognize that you're in a bad situation and you stay there, you're a participant not a victim. It helped me realize that I'm never powerless over my situation.
No Practical Advices.......2005-11-19
This book offers no real practical advice for reader to "survive" in crazy and dysfunctional workplace.
Furthermore, the writing of this book is way too PHD-alike to tie to its "light-hearted" title.
I stopped reading it after 20 pages or less.
Read QBQ! first.......2005-08-25
Before you read this book, you need to change your paradigm - read John Miller's "QBQ! The Question Behind the Question" first. Very helpful case study book.
I agree with Steven.......2004-03-19
I was sorely disappointed in this book. I figured I would learn how to deal with the dummy I've just been assigned to work for, but this is just an endless stream of anecdotes with no advice for folks like me.
Don't waste your time.......2004-01-28
Don't waste your time with this book. It's just an endless group of unfortunate work bosses. There is no insight or help with surviving theses situations. Advice like, "You cannot be doing your job even when you are doing your job if your boss says so" in chapter one is one of the unhelpful tips the book gives. Unfortunately, this catchy title doesn't produce.

Book Description
Rice yields need to increase in order to keep pace with the growing population of Asia and to alleviate hunger and poverty. There appears, however, to be a biophysical limit associated with conventional photosynthetic pathways. The research presented in this book aims at understanding how the rice plant's photosynthetic pathway could be redesigned to overcome current yield limits. The factors controlling yield are discussed from the agronomic to the molecular level. Prospects for improving rice photosynthesis include using genetic engineering to convert rice into a C
4 plant.
The various chapters in this book deal with photosynthesis; a comparison of C
3 and C
4 pathways; genes physiology and function, and also discuss this in the broader context of economic consequences of yield improvements for poverty, the molecular genetics of photosynthesis, and ecophysiological and evolutionary perspectives of photosynthesis in wetlands.
Researchers on rice, photosynthesis, agronomy, genetic engineering, and food policy will find much of interest in this book.
Product Description
Resulting from the need for greater realism in models of human and organizational behavior in military simulations, there has been increased interest in research on integrative models of human performance, both within the cognitive science community generally, and within the defense and aerospace industries in particular. This book documents accomplishments and lessons learned in a multi-year project to examine the ability of a range of integrated cognitive modeling architectures to explain and predict human behavior in a common task environment that requires multi-tasking and concept learning. This unique project, called the Agent-Based Modeling and Behavior Representation (AMBR) Model Comparison, involved a series of human performance model evaluations in which the processes and performance levels of computational cognitive models were compared to each other and to human operators performing the identical tasks. In addition to quantitative data comparing the performance of the models and real human performance, the book also presents a qualitatively oriented discussion of the practical and scientific considerations that arise in the course of attempting this kind of model development and validation effort. The primary audiences for this book are people in academia, industry, and the military who are interested in explaining and predicting complex human behavior using computational cognitive modeling approaches. The book should be of particular interest to individuals in any sector working in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence, Industrial Engineering, System Engineering, Human Factors, Ergonomics and Operations Research. Any technically or scientifically oriented professional or student should find the material fully accessible without extensive mathematical background.

Book Description
- Breaks Down the Business of Screenwriting
- Explains What the Buyer Looks For
- Shows You What to Do to Get in the Door
- Tackles the Pitching Process
- Provides Personal Insights from Famous Screenwriters
Everybody has a story to tell. Everybody wants to write the great American screenplay. But what do you do after it’s written? How do you sell it? Studio honchos. Development Executives. Independent Producers. What do they want? Do you need an agent or manager to get it into production? Selling a screenplay can mean earning $250,000 or more, so competition is fierce.
Syd Field gives you an insider’s look at the movie and TV industry, packed with essential tips from the pros. Selling a Screenplay is a must-have guide for every screenwriter, filled with frank real-life advice from Hollywood’s most powerful deal makers and most celebrated screenwriters.
They all started somewhere.
Customer Reviews:
Screenwriters Avoid this Book.......2007-10-18
I am a first time screenwriter and I read this book to get an Idea of whom and how to submit my script to. This book never addresses this at all. The majority of the book is discussing how impossible it is to get something read and or produced. When you finished reading this book you feel like the odds are so against you that it might be easier to finance and produce the movie yourself. Also, who the heck is Syd Field anyway? I went on IMDB and couldn't find a lick about him that is relative to the industry today. AVOID THIS BOOK. Negative vibes.
A good place to start.......2002-04-02
This is a good, solid introduction to selling your screenplay and finding an agent. There's nothing much here that isn't found in a lot of other books, but someone starting will find this really useful.
The Best!.......2000-04-07
Syd Field is absolutely, without a doubt the best! In this book, he lets us know why Hollywood chooses one script over another. After years of perfecting your craft, you really deserve to know what Syd does. I thought I knew, but boy was I wrong! Syd, however, showed me the way. This is the best book on selling a screenplay ever written. Buy Screenplay and learn your craft. Then buy Selling a Screenplay and you'll be well on your way to success. My students are.
Syd Field CAN!.......2000-04-07
I really can't understand the reviewer from Hollywood who says Syd Field can't. He CAN! And luckily for us he DOES! Syd Field is a creative consultant of many years standing who works on more than one thousand scripts per year and knows the industry inside and out--better than anyone now writing books on screenwriting! In this book, Syd shares his wealth of knowledge with us about how Hollywood works. Exactly how it works. And you have to know if you want to make it in this tough, competitive field. I've learned more from Syd's books than from all the other books on screenwriting combined. You can't go wrong with Syd, believe me! Thanks!
If you want to know how HOLLYWOOD WORKS !.......1999-08-17
At first, I thought this was a book about the nuts and bolts of selling your screenplay. Boy, was I delightfully mistaken. This book shows me how the process works that enables you to sell your screenplay. For that, it's absolutely wonderful!! I never knew how buyers buy and sellers sell. Now, that I understand the process, I can taylor my own scripts to the real world, not some phoney intelluctual garbage about what "the market is."
I have other books of Syd Field's and I find them useful, inspiring and knowledgeable. I've even bought his video and find it extremely valuable and encouraging.

Very Positive Message!.......2007-07-05
My two daughters received this book from their Great Aunt and Uncle last week, and we liked it so much we decided to purchase one for my sister's two daughters. I was so surprised to see such negative reviews that I had to write a review myself. It is truly astounding that anyone could take such a positive message as this book represents and try to make it sound negative, but I suppose some people could find negative in anything.
The message we get from Kupchella's wonderful book is that each girl, throughout her life, will determine the road she will travel. She gets to choose from all the incredible possibilities out there, and it doesn't matter where she begins. I love that Kupchella mentions motivation coming from within, and being as individual as each person.
Further, the illustrations are very colorful and captivating. My four year old loves the page where Sandra is daydreaming, looking at the clouds, which represent all the boundless possibilities for her life. If you like having positive energy in your home, this book incorporates plenty of it throughout its pages.
mixed feelings.......2006-09-04
I have mixed feelings about this book. As has been stated, the illustrations are really bright and colorful. And obviously, the women featured are amazing people. But...it does have a very simplistic (even for a kids book) heavy-handed way about it. And somehow it bugs me that the primary author is a man. No women authors available to do the job? The underlying message, though, that with determination you can do it, is a useful one for little girls.
A good read!.......2005-10-15
Girls Can! By Rick Kupchella is a celebration of girls and what they can accomplish when they believe in themselves. Kupchella writes his story with the cooperation of Sandra Day O'Connor (the first female Supreme Court associate justice), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (Olympic gold medal winner) and Sally Ride (the first American woman astronaut in space).
Kupchella's book celebrates girls and all the wonderful things they can do when they are determined and put forth the energy and hard work. Through the individual stories of O'Conner, Joyner-Kersee and Ride, Kupchella inspires and challenges all girls to do what they want and to be what they want to be.
Girls Can! is an important message that must begin early and continue forever! The illustrations are colorful, bold and inviting and children will love them. This is a keeper book
Armchair Interviews says: We would love to see a book for boys also. In this day and age, we all need encouragement.
A little sexism for your sweetie.......2005-03-30
Despite getting higher grades in school and making up 52% of college graduates, girls apparently need a little extra patronizing and mixed messages about their ability to succeed.
In three condescending, inanely written bios of famous women, we learn than Jackie Joyner-Kersee could run fast, fast, fast! Always helpful for winning gold medals, I suppose. Sandra Day O'Connor grew up on a ranch and had no idea she'd be the first female Supreme Court Justice:
"Sandra said: Find that Thing! Find that one special Thing! It's Inside you. It's where you belong!"
How about fewer exclamation points and more elucidation? My special place inside feels like indigestion right now.
Most shocking of all, future astronaut Sally Ride was ... can you believe it ... good at math. "She could add and subtract all her numbers." Really? You need arithmetic to navigate a space ship? Imagine.
My husband spotted the book's worst flaw: while the last page tells girls they're in the driver's seat, it depicts a blonde bimbo steering a red convertible, poodle at her side, in a demonstration of - what? That beauty is really what matters in the end? What's the bottom line here?
great book for (...) girls.......2005-01-16
I really like this book for my (...)girl. It talks about different ways to dream big dreams and make them happen. It's a wonderful addition to our nightime reading library!!
