This book provides the tools and concepts necessary to study the behavior of econometric estimators and test statistics in large samples. An econometric estimator is a solution to an optimization problem; that is, a problem that requires a body of techniques to determine a specific solution in a defined set of possible alternatives that best satisfies a selected object function or set of constraints. Thus, this highly mathematical book investigates situations concerning large numbers, in which the assumptions of the classical linear model fail. Economists, of course, face these situations often.

This book is a must-have for serious econometrics students who want to specialize in asymptotic theory. But the price of this book is an outrage (...). The publisher should really consider publishing a paperback version to make it more affordable.

I also recommend Davidson's Stochastic Limit Theory and Billingsley's Convergence of Probability Measures.

A very useful resource.......2000-11-16

This is a must-have for economists who do any work with theoretical econometrics. It is the kind of book I wish I had when I was a graduate student in economics. It provides kind of a theoretical backing to books like Greene and updates the more difficult to read econometrics texts of long ago like Theil.

White starts out easy (easy if you do econometrics, that is). The linear model and the consequences of violating the basic assumptions. But from the basic beginning, the book goes far and seems to focus on those issues I consider to be most important (and things I didn't get first time around). And it takes you up to the "cutting edge."

Too often, things like Laws of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theory are thrown at you like a tool that you must accept. But reading White's book helps you understand why these things work the way they do. I found this helpful.

One more thing: Solutions in the back! perhaps this will start a trend.

Some of the items might be difficult if you haven't had a bit of analysis or your understanding of applied econometrics isn't too good. But I guess if you pick up something called "Asympotic Theory" you know what you are getting into.

The best introduction on Asymptotic Theory for Econometrics.......2000-04-16

This book provides the basics of asymptotic theory for linear econometric models. It presents very clearly the classical assumptions concerning linear models, and shows the implications from them. Then, it relaxes each assumption, and compares the results with those obtained previously. This makes the book very readable and understandable.

Of course, the reader is required to have taken a course in Econometrics, and should be used to matrix notation.

I strongly recommend this book for those who wish to deepen their undertanding on Econometric Theory. I think this is the first book to be read.

The exercises are proposed in the body of the text and should be solved before going on, because in fact they are part of the text. The solution is in the end of the book.

This is an excellent starting point for the beginner. It builds a proper base in a very practical, hands on way. Favretti is a well-known expert in Southern historic garden circles. He's created historic landscapes himself and comes at his subject with a great deal of experience.

A look at Mind-Set.......2005-06-13

This book is not about how to use a firearm in self-defense. This book is about surviving a deadly encounter. The focus on on the most critical part of self defense - Mental Preparation. This is one of the best and could save your "bacon". If you just want to learn how to shoot look elsewhere. This my favorite of the Suarez books as it really offers helpful insight to provide the right frame of mind to survive. Be aware - the author pulls no punches and is not "PC".

Mental preparation for combat.......2005-01-25

Gabe Suarez, the author of this book is a renowed shooting and tactics instructor. In his former career as a SWAT team member, he has participated in numerous fights and several shooting incidents (I believe the exact number is four shootings).

This book is similar to Principles of personal defence by Jeff Cooper. In this book, Suarez handles the mental aspects of fighting, based on his personal experiences and those of his trainees. Rather than instructing how to use weapons the most efficient way, he tries to explain how the mind works in a life-threatening situation. Instead of tactics, you'll learn how the fear and stress change your performance, and how to prepare for a potentially lethal encounter.

Suarez advocates aggressive response to a threat, and man's right to defend himself even with lethal force, if necessary. The instruction he gives in the book fall into the same category, and his attitude is that unless you want to do things the way he instructs, it's the same as hiding your head into sand hoping the adversary does not attack you. As in other books by Suarez, his way is the only way to conduct business. I'm not arguing the facts, and he definitely has more combat experience than I do, but I dislike the way he forces his opinions to the readers. On the other hand, if man has proved his views correct in multiple gunfights, that may have a reinforcing effect on your outlook.

The things discussed in the book are not new, as almost every book devoted to self defense shooting has at least a chapter on mental issues. However, this book gives the most complete treatment of the subject I have read. It's sad that Suarez has such one-sided approach to the subject. However, with it's flaws, this book is definitely recommended reading to anyone who is interested in self defence.

Having been a small arms and tactics instructor for a number of years now and always a student to the martial arts, I highly recommend this book. It is truly a landmark book that is written with a hard hitting yet effective and efficient style that anyone can read and learn from. But more importantly than just learn from, but live by.

The more a student of personal protection learns and developes the more they realize that it is not the gun or the knife, etc but the mind that is the final weapon. Mindset is the most important element in a fight. Mr. Suarez explains this in terms that are most enlightening. I have personally lent my copy of this book to a number of soldiers who are deploying to Iraq, street cops, students of martial arts, and everyday house wives. All simply say, that this book is an important part of their development by letting them see their strength and weaknesses. They all agree that by reading this book they have have a deeper understanding of what it takes to not only survive but to win. That is an important difference.

This is one of the only books I own that I read on a regular basis to ensure I am "getting my mind right".

Horse Sense.......2007-01-09

This is the first book I have come across that treats the whole range of what one might come across in being owned by a horse and what to do should they need help. There are of course some points not picked up amongst them the Connemara Pony which has been accepted into the thoroughbreds, and which are a delight to own, being half Arab and half or less West Irish bog ponies (from the Spanish Armada). Very good detail and sage advice and the how tos' included, a present for my Grandchild who is studying for Veterinarian

good reference book, but..........2005-09-27

Being a new horse owner, I found this book somewhat helpful. A multitude of horse illnesses, injuries and conditions are described in an easy to understand language making it a good reference book.
However, this book would have been greatly improved if there were photos of each of the conditions described (there are none).
It also would have been helpful if there were an index to look up conditions by their major or most common symptoms, something a horse owner can reference if their horse is ill or injured.

Very nice informative book.......2004-10-22

I have to disagree with the review from Guatemala. This book is not intended to make you a vet but to let you understand enough so you, your vet, and your horse can have intelligent interaction. To his specific gripe about dewormers I disagree. Just giving a dewormer without knowing what you are deworming for is wrong. Even for humans a stool sample is lab tested to know exactly what to treat....you'd do less for your horse? This book is exceptional in that it talks to you with the minimal of medical jargon and what is used is explained. I do agree with his review about getting the other book. Both are twins and compliment each other well. I would reccommend you get both.

Not specific enough.......2000-04-22

I found this book to be good for novices, but it lacks in-depth information about treatment. For instance, under parasite control it says "talk to your veterinarian" No list of common wormers, their activity, safety and recommended dosing schedule. At least here in Guatemala, the vet prefers for you to participate in the possible diagnoses and treatment options to make an informed decision. This book leaves me in the cold. I recommend you check out Dr. Giffin's manual for horse owners - much more detailed.

A book of information for anyone.......2000-02-02

This book is quite useful with an emphasis on the health and care of the horse. Essentially, it is a collection of articles written by veterinarians and other horse oriented people from the vet school. Reproduction takes up almost 150 pages. Other large topics covered include nutrition, diseases and disorders, and care. Other topics such as vaccinations, selection, transportation, breeds, and behavior. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, since the articles cover information that horse owners should be aware of (such as the extensive disease articles), but might not be entirely educated about.

Wonderful series, but somewhat superfluous book.........2004-11-27

While the 'Strangers in Paradise' series is about as good as the graphic novel/comic genre gets, the treasury edition is merely rehashing all the editions with a small amount of (somewhat incidental) commentary by Moore.

It is really aimed toward those who are beginning the series, and even then I would recommend the pocket books over this treasury edition, which only hints at the actual wonders of the story.

Some of the covers and artwork are quite interesting, but only for the hardcore 'Strangers in Paradise' fanatic.
