Very Helpful!.......2006-05-01
"Business Driven Information Technology" is an interesting compilation of answers to every question, topic, strategy, or buzzword that a business manager may be exposed to today. This should be mandatory for any aspiring business leader to expand understanding of current strategies and technologies. Each section addresses approximately 7-15 questions that are related by topic. This can be read from beginning to end as it flows from topic to topic. Each answer is thoroughly discussed in detail over a few pages. At minimum, this book puts current business practices on paper for explanation; including where it is today, and where it may be going in the future in an easy to follow manner.
It appears this book was a compilation from the business department at University of Colorado at Denver. Congratulations to that team for putting together an excellent description of what's going in the business world, which is suitable for business students to business professionals. The best thing about this book is the way the authors mixed management strategy and philosophy with technology. The one thing I would change is move one of the last sections regarding implementation and project management closer to the beginning of the book. There are a lot of great concepts throughout the book, but I wish I would've read them with knowledge of project implementation in mind.
Practical Advice.......2004-02-08
As good as the book is the examples and reference material for further detail is even better. I just finished reading an article by Eric Goldfarb who is a CIO at:
http://www.cio.com/archive/071500_re.html
His work is in the book along with the URL. More detail like this shows the terrific value of both the academic and practical nature of this book.
Incredible! Itýs Written in English.......2003-09-16
This is one of the best (if not the best) books in this field. The answers are obviously written by experts in their areas, yet they managed to convey the ideas in a simple easy to understand manner. I think this is an excellent book for both people that have an IT background as well as for the general public!

Book Description
What has happened to the salmon resource in the Pacific Northwest? Who is responsible and what can be done to reverse the decline in salmon populations? The responsibly falls on everyone involved - fishermen, resource managers and concerned citizens alike - to take the steps necessary to ensure that salmon populations make a full recovery. This collection of papers examines the state of the salmon fisheries in the Pacific Northwest. They cover existing methods and supply model approaches for alternative solutions. The editors stress the importance of input from and cooperation with all parties involved to create a viable solution. Grass roots education and participation is the key to public support - and ultimately the success - of whatever management solutions are developed. A unique and valuable scientific publication, Sustainable Fisheries Management: Pacific Salmon clearly articulates the current state of the Pacific salmon resource, describes the key features of its management, and provides important guidance on how we can make the transition towards sustainable fisheries. The solutions presented in this book provide the basis of a strategy for sustainable fisheries, requiring society and governmental agencies to establish a shared vision, common policies, and a process for collaborative management.
Book Description
Uses the insights and research of a new wave of biologists and neurologists to explore how we can transcend our current cultural and societal crises.
• Explains new biological understanding of the human organism having five brains, the fifth of which is located in the heart.
• Explains that transcendence of our current modes of behavior, thinking, and believing require the dynamic interaction of our fourth and fifth brains (intellect and intelligence).
• Explores the idea of Jesus, Buddha, and other historical great beings as models of nature's possibility and our ability to achieve transcendence.
• How is it that we as humans seem stuck in a culture of violence and injustice? How is it that we can recognize the transcendent ideal represented by figures such as Jesus, Buddha, Lao-tzu, and many others who have walked among us and yet cannot seem to reach the same state?
In The Biology of Transcendence Joseph Chilton Pearce examines the current biological understanding of our neural organization to address how we can transcend our current evolutionary capacities and limitations. This latest research identifies our five neural centers--or brains--and establishes that our fourth and most recently developed brain is located in the head while the fifth is located in the heart. It is the dynamic interaction of this head brain (intellect) and heart brain (intelligence), of biology and spirit, that allows transcendence from one evolutionary place to the next--we are, quite literally, made to transcend. Conversely, it is the breakdown of this interaction through the effects of cultural dictates surrounding us from the time we are children that keeps us where we are, mired in the current crises of violence among people and between people and the planet.
But Pearce reminds us that we are not stuck for good. Transcendence is our biological imperative, a state we have been moving toward for millennia.

Joe Pearce shakes up the status quo again!.......2006-06-30
Back in the late, great 70's, I read Joe's "Exploring The Crack In The Cosmic Egg", and had my mind opened in ways I've been grateful for ever since. Now this venerable sage has demonstrated he's still got more game than 99% of his modern peers. His lucid exposition of cutting-edge science, linked coherently to ancient wisdom, provides a uniquely accessible template for Transcendence as THE crucial strategy for our species in this time of unprecedented challenge. As I read this timely work, highlighter in hand, I was struck repeatedly by syncronistic relevancies to my our psychospiritual journey.
I've been deeply impacted by my regular use of "The Journey to Wild Divine", a biofeedback game/training tool available through Amazon.com, and Joe's elaboration of the neurocardiological underpinnings of my overwhelmingly positive responses to this practice have greatly deepened my commitment. I've already given two copies of this astonishing book to friends and family, and am likely to bestow more.
I heartily endorse this book, and urge all seekers after transcendent truth to explore it. Jeffery E. DeCelles, Durango, CO.
" Yee shall know them by their fruits !! ".......2006-04-18
Members of traditional churches will not be swayed by this latest of Dr. Pearce's books and - as is evident from previous reviews - neither will certain MDs. Speaking of the "fruits" in my headline: Where are the fruits of billions of dollars spent on, say, cancer research, or heartdisease or SIDS deaths (10000+ annually)? Certainly, many MDs are known by their fruits and 'intent' and deserve tremendous respect, but the field of medicine in general leaves a lot to be desired.
Anyone who followed Pearce's "intent" over the years, knows he is a man who takes his journey through life seriously and what's more, he is willing to SHARE his insights and his progress. To us the readers, these insights come at an affordable price, can get enhanced with steady homework, something many other fields cannot lay claim to. There, 'sharing' often means fleecing you of your money at devastating costs.
Thanks to authors like Pearce, Liedloff, Halfmoon and the producers of flicks like "What the Bleep do WE Know?", we have an opportunity to grow into the beings many of us are yearning to become, beings in control of their lives rather than the misguided ideas of others. The "Industries" of Church, Medicine and Politics certainly don't want us to have control.
Life is meant to be a liberating event, not a suffering from anxiety, depression and disease. Pearce is doing an incredible job, by making palatable ancient Eastern thought, aligning that with Western thought and modern science, thus lifting the serious seeker onto a higher plane. I completely share his feelings about that liberating person Jesus, who is so sorely misrepresented by church. Thanks Joe!
Excellent, Loved it!.......2006-03-09
Great book with fabulous information about the brain and how it relates to the heart and transcendence.
big disappointment.......2005-10-28
There has been a lot of fascinating research recently about the biology of transcendence. But you won't find it in this book. What you will get is a personal reconciliation of his Christianity. Not that that's bad--but it is not how the book is represented. A fundamental problem with this book is one that bedevils (so to speak) many works by authors who write on subjects outside of their field of expertise. Pearce is a theologian (apparently). He is not a physician, physiologist, biologist, or anthropologist--and this really shows when he writes about those subjects. The theology is OK. The physiology is ho-hum--the same any intro course would give--except that he strays into details that are unfounded or absurd. As for the anthropology--whew! where does he get this stuff? Ancient cities from 20,000 years ago?! Early Americans that were 7 ft tall?!! This the stuff of fantasy and unfortunately really discredits his attempt to study the phenomenon of transcendence.
Blueprint needs transcendence........2005-09-07
I read the book, in its entirety, twice. It is difficult reading. I think that the information is generally worthwhile. The author provides a fair number of personal vendettas and numerous references to his earlier work which i think detract from the book. The writing style could be improved. Most notably, the flow of thinking, reasoning, and development is not smooth. Finally, the author talks about the development of a large brain frontal lobe in certain humans, going to the extent of showing a picture of a child with a prominent forehead. It is ironic that the picture of the author on the book jacket depicts him as having a discernibly small forehead.
Book Description
A comprehensive handbook on how to prepare a sailboat for extended cruising as well as for living aboard. The author considers the equipment, systems and modifications that will transform a basic sailboat one already operational and of sound construction into a long-range cruiser. There is a wide range of topics covered, from the bare essentials to improvements on deck and below deck to safety afloat, electronics, and much more. A well balanced, very accurate, reliable and exceedingly accesible book.

Ready for Sea.......2006-07-22
I sold my house and am leaving for the sea shortly. Tor Pinney has gone a long way to get me to get it right. I am on my third reading now. Almost every bit of helpfull advice will become part of my plan to go to sea. The best book I have read to prepare me for cruising the Caribbean and beyond. Thanks Tor!~
Little Point.......2005-12-10
The content is broad, the advice general, and this book just doesn't rise to the level of the works of other authors who have tackled this subject. There are many fine books on this subject, and this is not among them. Pass.
Excellent reading for a newbie like me !!.......2005-11-03
I really love this book, even though te pretty much only covers the tip of the iceberg, this books gives me an insight in to the things to consider when outfitting and choosing a boat that i plan to buy. I love the way Tor has written the book, it had made me understand the fundamentals in a simple and illustrative way
Very Useful.......2002-11-30
I am using this book to help me oufit my boat for Caribbean cruising. I find it useful almost every day. Lots of great ideas.
Excellent book.......2002-11-20
I've read Tor Pinney's "Ready for Sea" and, after seeing Christopher Korody's comments below, I can not imagine he even read the same book. Pinney has a friendly, easy-going writing style, a pleasant way of sharing his vast, first-hand knowledge on the subject at hand. I think he's a very fine writer, better than most in this genre. I wish more boating books were as easy to read as this one. It's more concise than many of the longer books on the subject. "Ready for Sea" covers a great deal of solid information in just 200-odd pages, and some very novel ideas, too - like the last chance trip line. I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about going cruising.

100 Words in Persian.......2007-09-10
This book helps a person learn Farsi and, besides, it's fun. The flashcards are a very good idea. Use it as part of your library for learning Farsi.
a great way to learn basic farsi vocab.......2006-12-29
If you're just starting to learn Farsi and you're looking to learn very basic Farsi vocab, then this is a good choice. There are multiple exercises for each group of vocab, which really helps the learning process. I wish they'd make more books like this, especially ones for sentence building. But this is really good for just vocab.
Your First 100 Words in Persian .......2006-11-10
An excellent starter book if used in conjunction with other tools such as Conversational Farsi CD's by Pimsleur and Lonely Planet Farsi (Persian) Phrasebook. Not an end in itself, but a very good workbook for using in those spare moments we all try to capture.
Funnest way to learn Farsi.......2006-11-10
This book is absolutely perfect for beginners such as myself. You immediately learn practical everyday vocabulary that you can really use. The exercises are actually fun! You'll feel like a kid again doing the exercises. It's repetitive enough to allow you to retain the learned vocabulary and the exercises are diverse enough so it's not boring.
Well worth the money........2006-01-29
As a beginner in learning Persian, this book has been a lot of help. I like the simplified approach, the flash cards, the repetetive exercises and the activities that emphasize the 100 words. This book also helped me learn the complex Persian alphabet which is so different from the English alphabet. Granted 100 words is a small vocabulary in any language - but it is 100 words I did not know before! If you are above a beginner in Persian, this probably is not the book for you.

Book Description
Many years ago a slighted fairy placed a curse on a beautiful young princess--a curse that caused her and all her female descendants to turn into mean, ugly witches if they ever touched a flower after turning sixteen. Now, Princess Emma, who is about to turn sixteen herself, is determined to break the spell once and for all. Emma travels back in time to the day the curse was placed on her ancestor in the hope of preventing the curse from being cast. Unfortunately she isn't successful in her efforts, but she does learn how to break it. Armed with this knowledge, Emma returns to her own time full of hope. But disaster ensues and Emma is about to give up completely--until true love shows itself in the most unexpected place of all.
With a bit of courage, a pinch of luck, and of course, a healthy dose of magic, Princess Emma charms her way through the third hilarious adventure in the Tales of the Frog Princess series.

Excellent children's story.......2007-08-09
We bought the Frog Princess from a school bookfair. I've been reading it to my 8 year old daughter. We both enjoyed the book so much, I bought the next two in the series on Amazon. These are wonderfully funny, engaging stories. This is a children's auther I would highly recommend.
Romance at Heart.......2007-06-05
Ilove the romance in this book.Emma and Eadric
are very funny characters.I love the magic in this book.
I hope to keep reading the series!
super book.......2007-05-14
This book is just one of the wonderful books in this series. An absolute family treasure and fun for the whole family.
Engaging read.......2007-05-06
This was a fun book that has been passed around in family. I read it first and then passed it to my 13 yr. old daughter who then passed it to my 10 yr. old daughter. We've all laughed with delight at some of the exploits our "heroes" manage to involve themselves in. A must read! Grab the whole series while you're at it!
Once upon a curse.......2007-04-08
After an adventure of being a frog with Prince Eadric in the "Frog Princess" and finding a cure for turning Haywood back into human form in "Dragon's Breath", Princess Emma must now travel back in time to try and stop the family curse from being placed; or at least find out how to end it. Emma knows she must end the curse before she turns 16 and marries Eadric because it's ruining her family member's lives and will shadow her and Eadric when they get married. The curse has already taken its toll on her grandma and beloved Aunt Grassina, turning them into ugly old hags because they were in contact with a flower.
Emma manages to travel back in time with Eadric and survive up until the party, which is where and when the curse is placed. She fails to stop the curse from being placed, but manages to find out how to break it. When she goes back to the future in her own time, she's certain she knows the surest way of breaking the spell, but disaster strikes that discourages her. But finally love conquers evil unsuspectedly...
I loved this charming book because it shows courage, love, and determination in the inner self.
Product Description
Many years before Princess Emma's time, an angry fairy cast a curse on her ancestor, Princess Hazel. The fairy decreed that Hazel and all her female descendants, upon reaching their sixteenth birthdays, could not touch a flower, or else all their youth, beauty, and kindness would be erased.
Emma had seen it happen-her grandmother had always been a spiteful witch, and now her favorite aunt, Grassina, has fallen under the spell as well. Though Emma has wonderful new powers as the Green Witch, she has only one week before her own sixteenth birthday, and with it comes the threat of the family curse.
No one before her has been powerful enough to find the fairy responsible, or to reverse the curse, but Emma is determined-and with the help of Eadric, her favorite bat, Li'l and some ancestors she has only just met, she may be able to outsmart an adversary she thought she'd left behind long ago.

Book Description
At the end of the Second World War, Jason Rhodes, a young Navy Chief Petty Officer, and Jennifer Howorth, an Army nurse, were returning to the States from the South Pacific when the plane in which they were traveling went down near a remote island in northwest Fiji. With them were three other veterans of the Pacific War. Thus begins a three-generation romance/tragicomedy. Rhodes, whose one and only ambition in life is to write a blockbuster novel about his experiences aboard a wooden subchaser during the war, cannot, finally, resist the beauty and charm of Lieutenant Howorth, the beautiful (and only) daughter of a wealthy U. S. Senator from Mississippi. Some god or muse, he decides, has smiled upon him; and even though this Aphrodite of the South is engaged to a wealthy Kentuckian, she will, in time, return his love.
