Book Description
Presenting results of new research, the author shows that, contrary to popular perceptions, global income inequality is actually declining, South-North migration is falling, and job opportunities and wages are rising in a significant number of developing countries. Moreover, the author finds no evidence of falling labour standards in integrating economics, nor that globalization can be blamed for the labour market disadvantages of low-skilled labour in industrialized countries. While showing many of the public concerns about globalization to be unfounded, the analysis exposes other serious problems that until now have received scant attention, such as increasing marginalization of the poorest countries heavily dependent on exports of primary commodities, a high and growing level of brain drain from poor to rich countries, the potentially high costs for developing countries of pursuing integration as an objective in itself, and the failure of globalization to stimulate global economic growth.
This book points to difficult challenges that the international community must meet if the potential benefits of globalization are to be realized and all nations and people are to share in them.

Honest & Humbling.......2004-09-07
Short stories illustrating the lessons learned by two organizational explorers. The honesty and openness with which they present their mistakes and realizations is refreshing. Clearly not cookie cutter consultants, they manage to share fresh ideas for approaching challenging situations. Thought provoking and entertaining, the book has prompted me to take a different look at how i facilitate change and apply the momentum created by it.
Trying to find a goal.......2001-03-27
I would definitely recommend passing on this one. The book's 6 degrees are not well defined and leave you guessing what the point is. There is an over use of metaphors, that fail to make any impact, and are quirky at times. If you are looking for corporate secrets of success look somewhere else. It provides little more than a motivational pep talk.

Book Description
Rather than simply cataloging the various interpretations of European regulations by Member States, this international team examines the economic priorities, the legal bases, the social norms and cultural patterns which come into play, presenting an analytical approach to the study of production rights in European agriculture.
This work traces the emergence and the economic and legal content of the different income support tools for agricultural producers, collectively termed 'production rights' and it looks at the foundations of the specific national conceptions underlying the methods of organising agricultural activity.
The book is intended for a varied readership: farmers themselves, of course, but also economic, legal and tax consultants, experts, lawyers, notaries, as well as students, teachers and researchers. It has been set out in such a way as to allow readers to move freely from one subject to another, depending on whether their interest lies in economic aspects or legal developments, or whether they are more concerned by certain production rights or by certain features of their own organisation.
The goal of the book is to enable the reader to grasp the special features and the significance of the forces which have shaped the current income support instruments for producers in the various Member States of the EU, and which will unquestionably continue to influence the measures which flow from reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy in the years to come.

Good Product, good price, great seller.......2005-10-05
What more can I say, I recieved the textbook in good condition for a good price in a timely manner. I had to make a correction on the shipping address and that was taken care of w/o any problems. Thanks!
Scholastic perfection.......2004-09-14
I've been in an accredited university for fifteen years studying the intricacies of physiology. I have never come across a book that was executed to such perfection. The photos are astonishing in their clarity and intimate setting. The narration is concise and very clear, almost to the point where you want to phone the author and congratulate him on his accomplishment. If you are thinking of pursuing any kind of biological/medical field than I highly recommend this fine piece of art. It will soon be Shakespearean in its influence. Don't trust the simple words of my fellow plebian reviewers; this book is the second coming of the Bible.
A physiology instructor weighs in on this book.......2003-02-11
I have been teaching University-level physiology for over 10 years. I have used at least a dozen books, from the "essentials" to the "encyclopedic". For a one-semester course on physiology that emphasizes recurring mechanisms from a cellular and organ-level perspective, with a great introduction to ecological physiology thrown in, Eckert cannot be beat. In my experience, the vast majority of students respond better to Eckert's illustrations than to the endless flow charts that appear in most of the other books. It nicely fills the niche between "just the basics" essentials texts (which are simply not rigorous enough for biology majors) and the "every little detail" encyclopedic texts that most students find bewildering. If I had to learn animal physiology from just one textbook, this would be it; and I'd save the cell & molecular details from one of THOSE specialty texts instead. The ONLY criticism I have about Eckert is its nearly complete lack of consideration of the immune system.
This book is a total waste.......2002-10-31
Poor illustration, lengthy text, and not very well updated
A Horrible book!.......2002-02-14
The author can not explain the molecular aspects of biological processes well. The figures were fine but there are so many books that are far better than this. The author seriously needs to take some writing classes. I had to use another book in conjunction with this one, inorder to make sure I got the concepts correct. Compared to the other book, Eckert Animal Physiology is nothing!

A great referance!.......2000-03-25
As a university student in animal sciences, I bought this book to get a lot of great informations about animal physiology for my 1st grade. I've been very surprised of the quality of the informations mentioned in this book; well explained, easy to consult... it's a great book! Subjects are handle professionally and are written to make everyone who know a little bit about biology understand in details everything about animal physiology. A great book, similar as Neil A. Capmbell's Biology quality... simply a great referance!

Steehead Dreams; The Theory, Method, Science and Madness of Great Lakes Steelhead Fly Fishing.......2007-01-16
This book is the best I have ever read on the subject. It also makes great reading
The Great Lakes Steelhead Bible!.......2005-09-30
This book is truly a masterpiece. The tips and techniques that one can glean from this work are indespensable. If you consider yourself to be an advanced steelheader, than you will, if nothing else, appreciate the fantastic photographs. I do not suggest this book as a bed-time reader however, as the pictures will more than likely make you too excided to sleep (no joke!).
A masterful work.......2002-12-19
This is a "must have" for any Great Lakes Basin Steelhead Fly Fisher. Written from One who has been faced with "4th & goal" and has made the conversion. Matt's underlying theme is that each and every one of us Great Lakes' Steelheaders MUST realize that we have to take care to preserve this awesome privilege that we enjoy. Matt shows how and why the traditional West Coast Methods are very limited in the Great Lakes Basin. He does, indeed cover everything you'll need to know and do to become a more proficient fly fishing steelheader...I promise.
Dreaming about Steelhead.......2002-06-22
Steelhead Dreams ranks up there as one the best books about the Great Lakes steelhead fishery. Author Matt Supinski is considered one of the top Great Lakes steelhead guru. In this book he shares decades of knowledge and experience. The book has chapters on mastering the rivers, different times of year, presentations and the top Great Lakes rivers.
Steelhead Dreams is a very easy book to follow and understand. This book also has the best fly recipe section I've seen in any book. There are plenty of color plates of popular nymph, egg, and streamer flies. This is an excellent book for the angler deciding to get into steelheading.
Steelhead Dreams - Review.......2002-05-23
I have been an eastern and great lakes trout and salmon fly fisher for 42 years and fished many of the great lakes rivers for steelhead the last 22 years with the fly rod. Steelhead Dreams presents a wonderful description of the immense steelhead fly fishing opportunities through outthe great lakes states and canada. The history of the fishery, comparisons to the PNW steelhead fishery, tackle, techniques, rivers, and how to approach the four seasons of steelhead fly fishing are discussed in detail to aid both new anglers and more experienced steelhead fly fishers. Matt obviously has a great love for steelhead, fly fishing, and the great lakes fishery. Excellent color pictures of the rivers, fish, tackle, and flies are provided. All great lakes and PNW steelhead anglers will benefit in increased knowledge of this fishery to enhance their angling experience. I learned some new things from Matt which will be applied this year. This is the best indepth book on great lakes steelhead fly fishing I have seen to date. I look forward to more books from Matt on the great lakes fishery.
Book Description
Spanish has become the most popular foreign language in American schools and businesses. The "Complete Idiot's Guide to Intermediate Spanish" offers expanded coverage of grammar and vocabulary, as well as idiomatic usage, irregular verbs and conversational elements. No other book offers intermediate Spanish in this easy-to-understand format.
Customer Reviews:
best book ever!.......2006-03-24
I bought this book to help me practice my spanish over the summer while school was out of session. I was surprised by how helpful it really was. It went back and explained some things I had already been introduced to but still remained confused about (such as how to know where to put accent marks). I also used it to preview topics once school resumed and as a review before tests. It was very straight forward and extremely helpful. The best thing about it is that it is not a one read book! Every time you read it, you find something that did not make sense the first time you read it, but is easier to understand now. Or in the case of students, you may read it the first time and not understand some concept that has not been introduced in class, but after you are introduced to it in class you can read the book and get some tips on better understanding the concept. Totally awesome book and I hope they come out with a Complete idiot's guide to advanced spanish! Worth every cent!
It is WELL worth the money. .......2006-01-23
I have never thought of myself as stupid enough to buy a "Complete Idiot's Guide" before, but I am SO glad I bought this. This book assumes some prior knowledge of Spanish, because it is an intermediate level... but with this one resource I have learned a lot of useful things, more than *ANY* other book or program.
I have bought about 10 spanish books, and this is by far the best one, and the most easy to use & follow. A note about the way it is written: each chapter uses a passage written in spanish (a few paragraphs), and they each progressively introduce more spanish. The text is disected, in the pages that follow. I think this is an EXCELLENT way to introduce you to more complex spanish, by providing you with short, interesting facts about the Geography & Culture of spanish speaking countries. Compared to my other 10 books, this one is unique in that respect.
I like the way that grammatical terms were explained... the tenses such as indicative, preterite, conditional, subjunctive, etc... and certain types of words such as demonstratives, pronouns, adverbs, superlatives, etc. *Finally* someone explained it well assuming no prior knowledge of all these abstract language terms. OK I already knew what a verbs, adjectives and nouns were. THANKYOU SO MUCH STEVEN HAWSON!! This was taught very poorly during my schools days.... and you have helped me to learn English better as well!! The rest of you: PLEASE don't be put off by this section of my review.
As well as this, there are also MANY other shortcuts & other useful information. Such as the use of "ser vs estar", "preterite vs imperfect" (I particularly like the way these two were explained) and "por vs para" --- although I think that "por vs para" could have been explained a slightly better - because I already seemed to work it out the rules for myself with the help of spanish natives. Everything else was explained **exceptionally** well.
This is quite a big book, and as I have said, it contains a lot of helpful information; however the chapters are short & it is easy to read & progress through. Learning a language is not an easy task... this book comes the closest to explaining things in an easy-to-understand manner. It is funny too - that alone makes you want to keep reading.
I think of language learning as fitting all the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together; no two people would fit those pieces together in exactly the same sequence, and everyone proceeds at different rates (and some people may never even finish the entire puzzle), but eventually -given enough time & patience- another person can recognise the picture even though there may still be some gaps. You can think of "effective communication" as being able to "recognise the picture in the puzzle" in my metaphor. Well, this one single book has allowed me to fill in the most number of puzzle pieces.
Put another way: I have five highlighters: pink, orange, yellow, green and blue. I reckon by the time I get to the end, the fluoro ink in every one of them will be at least partially dry.
Yes I am only half-way through, but if someone steals the rest of my book, I still think that the first half is worth every single cent.
Informative and Accessible.......2000-10-20
Here is a Spanish book that will actually teach you Spanish, real Spanish as it is spoken and written throughout Latin America and Spain. With humor and insight the book guides yuo through many of the knotty aspects of Spanish grammar and usage, all the while letting you test and grow your skills. The author makes excellent recommendations for other materials you can use once you finish this book (or at the same time), and offers plenty of useful tidbits about Latino culture, history, and society. An excellent way to improve your Spanish, and a useful review if you already know a lot.
Excelente! I love this wonderful book........2000-07-07
This is THE best book about Spanish that I have ever read. I had already studied basic Spanish, but was pretty rusty. I couldn't put the book down! The author, Steven R. Hawson, has explained things in the clearest way that I have ever read. And, the book is also humorous. I highly recommend it to eveyone. I've never learned more Spanish. I also am learing a lot on my second reading. A great buy!

Really a great book...like the first, only a little cleaner........2007-06-18
This is a fantasic book! It's essentially the same book as the first edition, just a little cleaner and up-dated. The added material at the end is very helpful to professionals needing to communicate in Spanish in medical and work-related settings. Don't be fooled by the title. Everyone I know agrees that they have had great time with this book...if you're serious about learning Spanish you need have this book! I go back to it again and again. It's very up-beat. Steven Hawson has a great sense of humor, but he's also great at explaining things in a new way. I always have a lot of "Ah Ha" moments when I understand something that nobody else could explain before. A must have...

great stories.......2006-02-24
I like these heroes because they have glaring faults, inter-society squabbles and families
Another Winner From The Team of Goyer-Johns-Kirk-Champagne.......2005-02-28
We live in times wherein comic book stories come in arcs - and usually comic creators work not on an ongoing book but only on a particular arc. Therein lies the problem with a lot of "greatest hits" style of storytelling in today's comics (e.g. Whedon's "X-Men", Millar's "Spider-Man" and Loeb-Lee's "Batman:Hush"). With JSA however, the writing team of Geoff Johns and David Goyer delivers month after month. In music terms, they feel like the Beatles or Led Zep during their heydays. Every new album is an attempt to top the previous one - while maintaining an obvious intelligence, growth and direction with the constant move forward. This is how I feel everytime I pick up a new TPB collection of JSA. Regular artists Leonard Kirk and Keith Champagne takes over the chores from the previous artists Steve Sadowski and Rags Morales very well - the style is similar and the action is no less blockbusting.
As with ongoing stories, there are times when things are quieter. This volume "Savage Times" is one of those times. It sets up the events to come in the next two epic storylines "Princes of Darkness" and "Black Reign". However, with the JSA, "quieter" doesn't mean uneventful. And this is why I come back again and again to this book - in contrast to the "talking heads" attempts of decompressed-writing over at Marvel (see anything by Brian Bendis for example). This is what comic books should be - action-oriented, fun, melodramatic and above all, superbly entertaining. Here, we get a time-travel story back to 1944 (the Freedom Force and Mr. Terrific appears) and ancient Egypt. This story wraps up a lot of things originally set up previously and successfully sets up new things for the future (the cliffhanger ending of this volume guarantees that you WILL want to get the next volume).
Another reason to get this volume is the focus on Captain Marvel (the "Shazam" guy). This storyarc fleshes him out in many ways and takes him way beyond the "cartoonish" feel that he's always been portrayed. We also get additional light shed on Black Adam (Theo-Adam) never before seen. This adds a lot of meat to his once over-simplified "villain" character and also forces the reader to symphatize with his methods and ideals (a lot of which will result in the explosive "Black Reign" saga to come).
Solid and consistent!.......2004-12-28
JSA is a great underated title. Better than all books with "X" in the title and is great month to month and even better in the trade format. Check it out, you won't be disapointed!
bad stuff.......2004-12-04
really boring, in between steps here.. the art work is okay, no where near as detailed as sadowski. DC seems to give up on its titles after a while, ala JLA. JSA is headed in that direction.
Travelling Through Time with the JSA.......2004-11-09
*Please note, this review is based on individual issues, not the TPB. As per DC Comics (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=2376) this TPB is comprised of issues #39-45, so that's what I'm basing this review on.
This collection starts off with a single issue story dedicated to Power Girl. The issue is mostly played for laughs as a bombastic (in more ways than one) villain tries to draw Power Girl's attention. The ensuing fight is enjoyable, if a bit "light" and the issue really tries hard to portray Kara as a self-reliant super heroine. The highlight of the issue is Kara's speech at the end to the JSA's two youngest female heroes as to why she acts the way she does.
The next story appears to be dedicated to Dr. Mid-nite, but Captain Marvel really steals the show, which is a shame. Pieter Cross is one of the more interesting alter-egos out there and while in recent issues Geoff Johns has done a good job of fleshing him out, this issue is really more of a focus on his surgical skills. The issue does start hinting at a Captain Marvel/Stargirl relationship, but it's not fully developed. I kind of felt this issue was more filler than anything else. Once again, the ending of the issue saves it, as it sets the stage for "Black Reign."
Next up is the main storyline in this collection, the 4-Part storyline "JSA, BC."
The first issue features a rather generic fight against an unknown entity, first foreshadowed by Sand a few issues back. Black Barax isn't really fleshed out here and the majority of the issue is spent building up to the battle. While Barax does pull off some interesting moves, especially against Captain Marvel and Black Adam.
All of which leads into the following issue's Mr. Terrific/Mr. Terrific team-up, which is actually quite enjoyable. The concept of a hero who fights for "Fair Play" does seem cheesy, but it plays out rather nicely, as the plan to defeat Barax has one of the Mr. T's playing not so fairly. Another nice bit in this issue is the appearance by the Freedom Fighters, who are among DC's often forgotten Golden Age Past.
The next two issues are the highlight of this storyline, where Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl travel back to Ancient Egypt to find Captain Marvel. There they find not only the villainous Vandal Savage and his "monster," a precursor to the former Justice Leaguer and Outsider, Metamorpho, but also Nabu, the originator of Dr. Fate, Black Adam (as he was in this time period) and Prince Khufu and Princess Chay-Era, who are fated to be reincarnated as Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
The scenes with Captain Marvel and Black Adam are really nice, as Marvel must confront an earlier, heroic version of the man who will become his most dangerous foe and also uneasy ally in the JSA.
I did feel that they could have done more with Kendra (Hawkgirl) meeting her previous self, especially given the fact that Kendra is in denial about her previous lives.
At the same time, these issues also foreshadow the next arc "Princes of Darkness," with Dr. Fate making a mistake that will unleash one of the JSA's deadliest foes.
Issue #45 sets up "Princes of Darkness" and brings together several previous plot lines that will converge in that arc. I'm kind of surprised that DC added it to this collection and I have to wonder if it was an error on DC's solicitations to note this issue as a part of the "Savage Times" collection.
I'd say buy this TPB for the "Justice Society, B.C." story and make your own decisions on the solo issues featuring Power Girl and Dr. Mid-Nite.
As always, Geoff Johns (joined in this collection by co-writer David Goyer) weaves multiple threads through each story and little of previous stories is "wasted" or forgotten.
The art in these issues (save for the Power Girl one) is by Leonard Kirk, who is tied with Steven Sadowski as my favorite JSA artist. It's clean artwork that's easy to follow and the action is easy to follow.
If you're a current fan of JSA collecting the series through TPBs, I'd say this is a "must have." If you're new to JSA, I'd say your best bet is to start with "JSA: Justice Be Done" and work your way through the series.
