If you are learning economic for the first time this is a great place to start. As I look back on the different books I used to organize these concepts I wish I had used this book. The layout is easy to comprehend using the best of consumer choice and firm topics. The graphs and explanations are great even for someone that has already learned the material. Use this book in combination with a mathematical text like Simon and Blume and you will go far in undertanding Economics. I suggest this book for any advanced student as a place to make sure you really understand the basics of economics. Was a useful reference for graduate level study.

This book was so informative on every aspect for a female runner. Suzy made the nutrition aspect so easy to understand. Really takes the guesswork out of what to eat and when.

Fantastic! Don't miss this one........2007-04-18

I randomly picked this book up in a book store and was pleasantly surprised as I thumbed through it. It was exactly what I was looking for - something that could advise me thoroughly on necessary changes to my training, nutrition and much more in order to start getting in real shape for running competitively. I was amazed at the level of detail in this book - and it's the kind of detail you need. In no other book about running would you expect a thorough description of the exact differences in protein powders and what time of day you should take each kind, etc...and then a chart of the brands and their ingredients. It's perfect and practical. Not at all repetitive or boring. A very easy, useful read. I started taking notes as I read and had a comprehensive shopping list for the grocery store the next day. Don't miss this one!

Probably useful for more advanced runners, but not me.......2006-12-27

I found this book to be very repetitive, and not very helpful. A few of the chapters I find interesting, like the one where she explains that for runners, the USDA food guide pyramid should really be flipped upside down. But she used her backup evidence from this chapter over and over again throughout the book. I really only need to hear "Fish is an essential food" once or twice to get it into my head. Also, towards the end, when Suzy gives sample training plans, I was very upset. Pretty much all of them are only suitable for runners who have way too much time on their hands, and are at a college level of training. I was looking for a way to spice up my training, but all I got were endless lists of two-a-days (who has time for that?) and hour long runs (the average high school girl doesn't have that much endurance). She doesn't seem to understand that we all can't be like her and perfect our diets, allowing only 5 treats per week, and running to what, for most of us, would be almost complete exhaustion. Suzy probably isn't the best person to write a book like this for female runners, because ever since she was in high school, she's been a star, and has never really experienced the long, hard transition from nothing at all to strenuous workouts.

I gave it 3 stars, because she had good intentions, but didn't pull them out the best way possible. I did however get some good nutrition tips, and learned some new strength exercises to add to my normal routine.

This is fantastic. Suzy Favor has been a woman to be emulated since she first showed up as a world class middle distance runner. She touches some of the very important parts of the physical and psychological needs of an aspiring young female through her own experiences.

In using her own life as a template, many of the young ladies who read this will make better choices when confronted with decisions that could have an adverse impact. As a coach I've seen too many who want to use these young people for their own benefit without regard to their well being or safety.

Nice going Suzy. You were a great runner and are still a great role model.

Perfect Resource for Women Runners.......2006-03-09

I liked this book because of it's context and because it was easy to implement. It is targeted for female runners but I have reccommended the book to a varietay of athletes from young, older, male,female, swimmers,runners, bikers. This has been the best infromation I have recieved on nutrition for athletes.

I wish Bing were as popular in America as Barney is. These books are a hoot and my son just can't get enough of them. I checked all 8 out from the library and had to end up buying them.

Bing is a bunny who interacts with his stuffed animal Flop. The books show Bing learning colors, foods, potty training, etc., all in the course of a day.

Adults will enjoy the '60s vibe of the cars, houses and furniture in the books.

Maybe an animated Bing show in America will make these books as popular as they deserve to be.

A Good Insight into Customer Service.......2007-08-28

Nordstrom definetly have the best customer service. I had read about this and then whoile in the USA went to one of their stores in Orlando.I must say it is all true, they are #1!

This book explains how Nordstrom get their people to super perform and fall over backwards for their customers. Reading about how they do it and the results they get is very enlightning.

Good look at an interesting system.......2006-12-21

The Nordstrom way gives an inside perspective of how the service at Nordstrom's really is run. It gives the perspective of desperation and attention to customers. By putting is employees livelihoods on commissions they are forced to deliver a superior product. The purchases and the sales clerks work closely together to form a bond that gives the company its edge. Overall this is an excellent book and very well done. It is written very well and can be read very quickly.

Outstanding Service, Underwhelming Author.......2006-12-12

This book only gives you a vague idea of how Nordstrom creates their legendary customer service. It goes into more detail about the history of the company and things like their battle with the unions.

If you are looking to create first rate customer service in your organization, this is NOT the book to buy. If you have a general interest in Nordstrom and have a few hours to kill, this book may be more worthwhile.

While Nordstrom may be the king of customer service that certainly doesn't make Spector and McCarthy brilliant authors. I recommend you save your money for something better.

A Worthwhile Look into the Nordstrom Culture .......2006-10-11

The Nordstrom Way was not developed overnight. It has been four generations and over one hundred years in the making. It is a culture, not an act that can be turned on and off. It is a pleasure also to have its recent top salesman Patrick McCarthy share his story.

The Nordstrom Way oozes with pride... the pride of providing a top-rate retail experience. Salesmen are empowered to make decisions. This is not just lip service. They carry a card which states "Rule #1: Use your good judgement in all situations. There will be no additional rules." Emphasis is given to placing the needs of the customer ahead of short-term profits.

Other aspects of this 'culture' include promoting only from within and profit-sharing.

Most retail outlets have a small Customer Service department. At Nordstrom, the whole store is the Customer service department.

The Nordstrom Way embodies simple concepts that are not necessarily easy for other companies to duplicate.

Five Stars

Nordstroms - Still a Solid Read.......2002-05-21

This book made a big splash when it hit the stands in 1995. If you are worried about it being outdated, don't be. I found it to be very thorough in it's study of Nordstrom's, and it is still a good lesson in what we should all strive for.

Minimal mistakes that need to be updated in the next revision:
1). Their top notch website is not addressed, however, it does describe the thinking that was held by the company in 1994 to take advantage of the new electronic media. I thought that this section spoke volumes to how far reaching Nordstrom's view of service really is.
2). Very minor changes have been made to their business plan since this book was released. Most of these changes would be evident to the keen observer after 10 minutes in their store.

All in all, I recommend this book to anyone who is studing how to change attitudes on customer service. If you are just looking for a book on sales, this is not for you.

This book describes the many new developments in Japanese employment and labor laws since the earlier translation. There have been many important adaptations to Japanese "labor law," including developments in collective labor relations, union organization, strikes, lockouts, boycotts, collective bargaining, and unfair labor practices, issues known in the United States as "employment law."

The first edition of this English language translation of Professor Sugeno's treatise was published a little over ten years ago. Approximately half of the present translation consists of material not contained in the earlier English-language edition.

Major changes in employment law addressed in the book include: sex discrimination in employment, childcare and nursing-care leaves, workers' accident compensation, flexible work schedules, tentative hiring decisions, minimum wages, maximum hours, occupational health and safety, tort recoveries, and corporate reorganizations.

With the same blend of astute economic and legal analysis he displayed in the earlier edition, Professor Sugeno examines the new developments in both employment and labor law in Japan.

This book is a translation of the second revised version of the fifth edition of "Roudou-hou" by Kazuo Sugeno, Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo (Tokyo: Koubundou Publishing Co., 2001). Since the first English version of it was published in 1991, we all had been longing for the new one covering extensive developments in both statutes and case law regarding the labor market, and employment and labor-management relations in these ten years. It has finally come out. As the translator's note says, this book "is the standard work on Japanese Labor Law, and is greatly relied on by the Bench, the Bar, Business and Labor in Japan .... His Work is not only comprehensive in scope, but also reflects a detailed knowledge and understanding of the law and practice in his own and other countries." I believe none of you disagree that this book is a most deserving of a five-star rating. It verifies most eloquently that it is in great demand by the readers. A real must-read book!!

A real must-read book!!.......2001-11-14

This book is a translation of the second edition of "Roudou-hou" by Kazuo Sugeno, Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo (Tokyo: Koubundou Publishing Co., 1991). As the translator's note says, this book "is the standard work on Japanese Labor Law, and is greatly relied on by the Bench, the Bar, Business and Labor in Japan .... His Work is not only comprehensive in scope, but also reflects a detailed knowledge and understanding of the law and practice in his own and other countries." I believe none of you disagree that this book is most deserving of a five-star rating. Since this translation was conducted, this original book in Japanese has undergone three additional revisions to cover bunch of later issues and is now at the second revised version of the fifth edition. It verifies most eloquently that this book is in great demand by the readers. I wish the publisher reprint this great works to be available to the non-Japanese readers. A real must-read book!!

Poorly researched and full of inaccuracies........1999-05-05

As an academic specializing in Latin American business, I have frequent contact with senior managers, politicians, and other academics in Mexico and throughout Latin America. As such, the inaccuracies in this book are plainly evident, and there are many. For a contemporary understanding of Mexico, I would instead recommend Bordering on Chaos by Andres Oppenheimer. An excellent introduction to Mexico's Colonial and Revolutionary history can be found in Blood Drenched Altars by Francis C. Kelley. But stay away from this one.
