Drawing on a broad-ranging reassessment of the historical and spatial evolution of the world economy, Herman Schwartz shows how the 21st century world has come to resemble the late 19th century, in which markets typically overwhelmed state policies, more than the mid-20th century in which states were often able to control or contain markets. In so doing he shows that globalization is a much longer term and more multi-faceted phenomenon than its current protagonists generally argue and provides a particularly clear account of the complex interdependence of modern states and modern markets. The new edition provides full coverage of the financial crisis of the emerging markets of the 1990s and theirs, and other's, respective prospects into the 21st century.

As a Political Science student at Trinity College, I have long been interested in political affairs. Mainly in theories, governments, wars, international security and the like. Then I took an insuperable International Political Economy course, the backbone of which was an unprecedentedly amazing teacher and this book! A book with words like Von Thunenization, with similes such as the state as mafia, and with an incredibly comprehensive insight into why things are going on in the way the are nowadays. A must for everyone who has ever been concerned with inequality, hegemony, but just very simply with economic issues.

Not a bad book..........2007-01-04
I must begin by stating that I didn't receive the book until the week of my exam. :( So, obviously I was not reliant on it. The book is small enough to be "not so" intimidating. It has relevant formulas and explanations to give one the gist of stats needed to pass a biostats class.
My opinion of the book may have been better had the product arrived sooner.

In these times, you can't walk in the streets without hear or read some statistics, in the paper, in the market or everywhere.
This is the book not only for a biomedical student, is a book for anyone interested in know what is statistics about. The politicians and doctor can lie with statistics, but with the knowledge from this book, you can see beyond. The use of examples is extensive, and some of them are hilarious. It's a book very concise, informative and, the best of all, funny.

This book is the only statistics book of its type. For each section covering a specific statistical method (from simple methods to those you may not even cover in your PhD training), a concise 2-5 page summary is presented. The goal is not to enable the reader to calculate any of these statistics, but to understand conceptually what each statistic means. This is where it can fill in information other statistics texts never get to. A student (or researcher!) who can churn out factorial ANOVA results, but doesn't truly understand what they mean can turn to this book for clarity. It's simple (for statistics), it's short, it's clear, and you have to love a book that is dedicated "To the many people who have made this book both possible and necessary -- authors of other statistics books"!

I've spent years looking for a book on statistics that is lucid for professionals who need to use statistical methods but who don't want to get a Ph.D. in math to be able to undertand them.
This book is the best. No incomprehensible Greek formulas. No tortured prose. And yet it's not just a mere introduction of what a mode is. It includes some advanced statistical methods and gives you all you need to know to understand what they do and how and when you would use them. It is long enough to describe each method sufficiently, including pitfalls and things to watch out for. Yet the book is short enough that reading it and undertanding the whole thing is possible in a modest length of time.
You can stop searching now. This is the book.

This really is a fun book - yes FUN - I'd even say it's a bathroom book about statistics. It's very conceptual, not at all driven by formulas - and makes many statistical concepts crystal clear. A great book to pick up for the PHD or the stats phobic - -

A very cursory overview of the field of epidemiology. One skim through it and you felt like you read the beginning chapter of a different, real book on the topic. Where PDQ statistics gets into detail enough so that you can converse intelligently with a statistician, after reading this book you'll sound like a freshman in undergrad. Don't waste your time or money on this title.
THE book of epidemiology.......2006-08-03
This is the best introduction and explanation available for epidemiology. It's a very concise, illustrative but comprehensive big picture(and the trees also) of this subject. Almost everything is explained with an example, and you can read as a novel. All the others books of epidemiology are complementary to this, but if you have this and the Epidemiology: An Introduction by Kenneth J. Rothman

Clinical Epidemiology: The Essentials by Robert H Fletcher and Suzanne W Fletcher

PDQ Statics: Great overview!.......2000-07-24
If you like to understand where each part of statistics fit in with other parts, start with this book. This is a Macro view of statistical analysis, not a nuts and bolts one. Nevertheless, one needs to understand the major distinctions of the categories and subcategories of statistical analysis, and this book does a wonderful job at it. Recommend it for anyone who cares about the logic of statistics.

This book was the first of Mr. Browder's that I have read and was the foundation for continuing of my education of SELF! I also have the second one in this series which really breaks down religion, civilization, and TRUE history! I don't know about anyone else, but the most I learned in school of my people is that we were naked savages until the good white man came and saved us, which is sooo far from the truth. I don't care if you think you know religion or if you think you know african history, you don't know it to this degree if you haven't read this book and also purchase his next one (Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization). If you can put this down, without a fight, then hats off to you! I read it in one day, that's how thirsty I was/am!

I think that says it all. If you are a chicken at heart, this book is not for you. This books tells it like it is, and that is good. We need to know that African Americans are the kings and queens of this world. That how the white man protrays us, is his distorted view. When you want to be like someone you will many times, mock what that person is or has. Mockery is the greatest form of flattery---I read that somewhere---and it is true. Whites want to be like us so badly, they could taste it. This book tells us, what we need to do to get back in line with how the Great Spirit inteneded for us to be. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
