Since the first edition of The World Trading System was published in 1989, the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations has been completed, and most governments have ratified and are in the process of implementing the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). In the Uruguay Round, more than 120 nations negotiated for over eight years, to produce a document of some 26,000 pages. This new edition of The World Trading System takes account of these and other developments. Like the first edition, however, its treatment of topical issues is grounded in the fundamental legal, constitutional, institutional, and political realities that mold trade policy. Thus the book continues to serve as an introduction to the study of trade law and policy.

Two basic premises of The World Trading System are that economic concerns are central to foreign affairs, and that national economies are growing more interdependent. The author presents the economic principles of international trade policy and then examines how they operate under real- world constraints. In particular, he examines the extremely elaborate system of rules that governs international economic relations. Until now, the bulk of international trade policy has addressed trade in goods; issues inadequately addressed by policy include trade in services, intellectual property rights, certain investment measures, and agriculture.

The author highlights the tension between legal rules, designed to create predictability and stability, and the governments need to make exceptions to solve short-term problems. He also looks at weaknesses of international trade policy, especially as it applies to developing countries and economies in transition. He concludes with a look at issues that will shape international trade policy well into the twenty-first century.

Almost a Brand New Book.......2007-02-07

The seller had sent the book in time, which has been well kept and almost like new. however the CD which comes along with the book was missing.

If you are an AP Biology student using the textbook, GET THIS..........2005-12-30

...This IS a condensed textbook, with great detail and review. THis is not intended to be an AP exam prep book, but it sure CAN be, it just has a LOT of detailed not required on the College Board examination. The concept maps and INTERACTIVE questions are the BEST review because I am a visual learner. As long as you're up to the challenge, be sure to check out this book, as well as an AP prep book (Cliffsnotes, Barron's, and Princeton Review). Peace and good luck.

The Study Guide appears to be self-published and is printed on heavy, dark red stock (to keep from photocopying, I'm sure). However, it is difficult to read for any length of time.

The Study Guide does not have a separate answer key. Instead,the answers to the questions are simply marked with an asterisk, making it difficult to actually puzzle through a question and then see if it is right. The student has to be ready to cover the asterisks (in the gutter of the one-sided text) with a narrow strip of paper (about 1.5"). It is a cumbersome process at best.

These two drawbacks would not hinder me from recommending this Study Guide. Buyers should at least be informed.

THIS BOOK COVERS THE 2 MIRACLES CONCERNING THE JETS AND METS OF 1969, WHO BOTH PULLED OF MAJOR UPSETS. HOW THEY ACCOMPLISHED THIS IS WRITTEN IN DETAIL AND DESCRIBES BOTH THE PLAYOFFS AND REGULAR SEASON. ALSO TELLS US HOW EACH TEAM WAS ASSEMBLED AND A BRIEF HISTORY. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THIS FOR ALL METS JETS AND SPORTS FANS WHO TRULY BELIEVE THAT THE UNDERDOG ALWAYS HAS A CHANCE. VERY GOOD.

This is a standard almanac of the kind 'Information Please' has been putting out for years.
I read some of the country - entries to check for accuracy. I found them generally quite good, but not without a certain bias at times.
This Almanac provides all the usual features of almanacs, and can be a useful source of reference. Even with the 'Internet' there are times when certain kinds of information are more readily found by turning pages.

This is a well-organized reference that I use every day. I have purchased one of these annually for a lot of years. The ONLY bad thing is that they never have figured out a way to keep the colored pages with the maps from falling out after a little while. Even if you baby those pages, they are doomed.

I didn't find this useful as the 'statistics' presented werte more subjective and less useful than the usual baseball numbers. This book may be useful for some but it was not useful to me.

Above Average First book from Hardball Times.......2007-05-13

Overall an excellent baseball book.

Something to keep in mind - despite the huge "2006" declaration of the front, this annual is definitely more of a 2005 season review book than a 2006 season preview. Would probably work better as a Hot Stove primer or a refresher in the run-up to spring training.

It's about 50% reviews & articles and 50% shear stats from the 2005 season.

The GM in a Box feature was pretty fascinating looking at the wants, habits & desires of the career of one particular GM (Walt Jocketty in this case) - hope that continues in future years.

The stats run from the basics you see everywhere (RBI, HR, H etc) to the more sabermetrically inclined (RC, PR, WS).

A must.......2006-03-24

This book, along with THT free website, is a seasonal "must have." The collection of stats itself is freely available on THT website, but - like Baseball Prospectus' annual - its presentation of those stats allows for easy reading on a team by team basis before and during the season. It also has articles that provide an indepth analysis of several of THT's own stats and other "on the edge" ideas about baseball analysis. If really forced to get only one such book each year, this one would make a strong argument to be that book.

Does not cover everything, but outstanding in what it does.......2006-03-16

When I first got this book, I was a little disappointed that it did not provide everything in a neat package like other annuals. For example, the team and individual statistics are for 2005 only, with neither historical numbers nor projections. There are no detailed writeups or predictions on teams or players, and some of the articles seem to go into too much depth on issues like batted balls, as noted by another reviewer.

Over time, however, I have been referring to this book more than any other source to get deeper insights into the coming season and re-reading the numerous excellent articles on specific topics like fielding and, yes, types of batted balls. While not written with fantasy leagues in mind, I've found the stats to be invaluable in identifying undervalued players especially beyond the Top 100 that appear on everyone's draft lists.

This book does not try to cover everything, but what it does choose to cover is done extremely well.

The best baseball annual of its kind!.......2006-03-12

As a fan of Baseball Prospectus, I must say I was very impressed with the Hardball Times Baseball Annual. Impressed enough to say that it is the best annual of its kind, beating out BP. The reason is that there is so many quality and interesting articles. There is nothing on fantasy baseball or much on individual player evaluation, but the whole annual is filled with thought provoking essays that do not seem to be biased towards or against any particular team as other periodicals seem to be.

Certainly not what we expected.......2007-01-10

My children and I are all fans of The Polar Express book and we did enjoy the movie as well. My youngest son, for whom I purchased this book, came to me with his 'review' before I had to ask... and then we gave the book away. Unfortunately, the book was not worth the money we paid for it, and even if it had been free, we would have not enjoyed it. This book is truly `the beginning', only telling the very first part of the story. While it is a Early Reader, it just wasn't interesting or enjoyable for my `beginning reader' to read, especially since we have the original book and the movie. Perhaps if it were sold in a set with other books that continue the story, it would be more enjoyable..

I was a little disappointed. This book doesn't go into a lot of detail and depth like the other Polar Express books I've read. Quite boring!

THE JOURNEY BEGINS.......2005-07-08

I bought this book for my granddaughter who has just learned to read. She was excited to be able to read a portion of the book that has always been read to her on xmas eve since she was born. I wish it had been longer and it may have been a little too easy for her. She is in the first grade.

I must agree totally with Shannon. Very boring book. I bought this book assuming that there would be a series of books that cover "the Journey" all the way to the end, but nothing yet. As a stand alone book, terrible. As a beginning of a series, there is potiential.
