Book Description
Dr. Theo Balderston explores the relevance of the politics of the Weimar Republic to its economic history. Tracing the origins, political fragility and eventual destruction of the unstable government in terms of the economic realities of interwar Germany, this book provides a comprehensive survey of sources otherwise inaccessible to students. Covering the Peace Treaty and reparations payments, the spiralling inflation of the twenties and the slump which led to the collapse of the republic, this is an indispensable guide to an extremely significant period in European economic history.

A short, clear and concise overview of the Republic........1998-09-23
"The Weimar Republic" is a quick read into the complicated history of Germany's first attempt at parliamentary democracy. Henig focuses on domestic political and economic developments to provide students and the general reader with an overview of the period.
Such issues discussed are domestic responses to the Versailles Treaty, the failure of the left to deal realistically with the problems of liberal and mass government, the inability of the bourgeoisie parties to find mass support for party rule, and the designs of the right to undermine the parliamentary system altogether. Within this framework Henig includes all the major points such as nationalism, patriotism, workers unions, the landed class, and the successive economic crises that plagued the Republic. At the same time, the book also provides clues to the rise of parliamentary government in post-1945 West Germany.

Book Description
Abnormal behavior patterns, from the jumping and somersaulting of caged laboratory mice to the pacing of enclosed 'big cats', are displayed by many millions of farm, zoo, research and companion animals. Including new chapters and over 30 contributors, this book focuses on the causation and treatment of these environment-induced stereotypic behaviors, and their implications for animal welfare and normalcy of brain functioning. The book begins by taking an ethological perspective, focusing on the constraints captivity places on animals' normal behavioral repertoires, and the effects these have on specific motivational systems. It then addresses the role of dysfunction, particularly the impact of chronic stress and impoverished environments on brain functioning. The book then moves on to explore how stereotypic behaviors can be tackled, once they have emerged, using diverse techniques from environmental enrichment to pharmaceutical intervention. It concludes by giving a new definition for 'stereotypic behavior', and a discussion of future research directions.

Book Description
Behavior has always been recognized as an important indicator of health and welfare in farm animals. Until recently, however, the curricula of agriculture and veterinary students have paid little attention to these issues. This situation has now changed and most students will receive a formal course in the subject and require a basic textbook. This book fulfills the need for such a comprehensive textbook. The third edition was originally published in 1990 by Bailliere Tindall, but is now reprinted because of the demand expressed by teachers and students. It provides a comprehensive guide to the behavior of farm animals and to the objective evaluation of their welfare. While primarily directed at students, it will also be valuable for veterinary practitioners, farmers and biologists seeking an introduction to the subject.

Customer Reviews:
Great reference for undergraduate microbiology.......2003-08-05
I took a microbiology class in undergraduate and found this book quite thorough and well-organized no nonsense approach. It got right to the point, without the added wording of many textbooks. I also used the Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi which is on amazon.com.
I found the last book to be quite on the mark with the type of questions to know for the test. These two books really helped alleviate many surprise questions on my microbiology exams. My friend who took microbiology last year recommended these two books. He was right, these two books helped me get an A.

Customer Reviews:
The Most Educational Book Ever!.......2003-12-26
This book is extremely educational in so many ways. This is part of the reason as to how I know thousands of different dog breeds that most smart people wouldn't. This book is fabulous!
One of the best!.......2003-07-17
I really enjoyed reading this book. I've read it cover to cover many times! I always use it as a reference to learn something new about dogs. It also helped me to decide which breed of dog I should get (along with some other wonderful books). What an enlightening read! Although it could have provided more information and actual pictures (instead of drawings for some of the breeds), I still give it 5 stars!
Great photos & breed key!.......2000-10-23
We use this book constantly at our small animal shelter. Good photographs of breeds, and the breed key with each description helps people focus in on breeds they'd like to do further research on, and to drop from their list, the breeds that would not be suitable for their lifestyle. It's great for showing people what kind of personalities are blended together in that adorable mutt they are considering adopting from the shelter. The adoption helpers almost never put this one down while showing the dogs.
The finest example of dog breed books available.......1999-04-12
If you ever wanted to know about dogs or the history of dog breeds, this is the definitive book that you should own. There is almost every breed of dog ever known and the descriptions will guide you if you are thinking about getting a dog, and if you just love them, it's for you!!
This book is O.K.......1999-03-09
This book has the most dog breeds I have ever seen!! But not much information on the breeds. It's good if you are a beginner and would like to see what many of the dog breeds look like.

An Easy-to-Read Introduction to Ninjutsu.......2005-11-21
Ninja were born and trained in families devoted to the study and practice of ninjutsu as their profession. Secrecy was the foundation upon which all successful ninja defended. Rigid security measures began at the very root of all ninja organizations.
In Ninjutsu The Art of Invisibility, Donn Draeger reveals the secrets and history of the ninja.
In their training the ninja became extremely physically fit. The ninja could cover extremely long distances in a very short time, or walk in absolute silence using ten special walking techniques revealed by Donn Draeger. The ninja trained hard to become a competent woodsman, to have the ability to live off the land.
The ninja developed skills with medicines that made him his own doctor. He could allay and cure the effects of insect bites, poisons, internal disorders and general ailments.
Donn Draeger reveals many of the tools and weapons of the ninja such as the ninja-sword and the shuriken.
Beyond this most people of the day believed the ninja to be sorcerers and magicians with power and mastery over the forces of nature. The occult powers of the ninja were spoken of in quiet whispers... and this gave the ninja even greater power over his enemies.
We read of the ninja's ability to become invisible, and Donn Draeger gives us the ten rules of a ninja's invisibility.
Finally we are presented with stories of ninja missions in fact and in legend.
In Ninjutsu The Art of Invisibility, Donn Draeger has given us a well-written overview of ninjutsu. For the reader who wants an easy-to-read introduction to ninjutsu, this book is highly recommended.
Nice reading, but not totally correct.......2005-02-28
This book is a nice read, but some parts were incorrect. First of all, there was no ninja costume in Japan's history. No black hood, no black suit or anything. Why would a ninja wanna wear such costumes that says, "hey everyone, I'm a ninja."? Next is the ninja sword. There is no ninja sword in history too. Why? Because it's a giveaway.
Nevertheless, this book was fun and I completed it in one day.
Two word: Don't Buy!.......2004-07-15
I totally regret buying this book.
There are no references to any historical works, nor any martial arts references either. It tells the story of the ninja clans and and the super-ninjas of the more fictious kind.
The only worth is the pages in the end that tells a few of the histocal ninja legends. But even these are better written by others.
If you are interested in historical ninja - S. Turnbulls book Ninja is a much better choice. If you are looking for the Martial arts aspect, I suggest any book by Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi or his students.
Some of the tools he has connected to the historical ninja is very modern fiction picked from comic books.
Very informative research book, not a do-it-yourself........2000-11-07
I thought that this book was definitely worth reading. Though the author never does cite any sources, he seems to be farely well read and understands the various concepts involved in the older martial styles that collectively formed "ninjutsu." I agree that he doesn't have any step-by-step guides: "Just do THIS three times a day for only ONE YEAR and you too can be an invincible ninja!" None of that at all. But it is hardly fare to give the book a bad rating because of that. The author's intention was never to teach someone to become a ninja. It was to inform. I actually found this book much more informative than any of Mr. Hayes' books, which are by and large step-by-step. This book includes dozens of historical accounts of ninja accomplishments, as well as chapters on training, weapons, tricks of the trade, lifestyle, superstition, etc. If you are looking for a book ABOUT the ninja, then this one, along with Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi's Ninja: History and Tradition, are the two best. If you are looking for a do-it-yourself book, then grab Stephen K. Hayes 5 volume set....
Pretty Decent at least it's not a how-to book.......2000-06-24
If you look for books on the ninja you tend to find alot of books that have a little info and then fill the rest of the space with pitures of weapons and techniques well if that's not what you want and you want histories and stories about the ninjas and their exploits well then this book is entertaining and should give you a little taste of ninjutsu.
Book Description
This eminently practical volume demystifies legal writing, outlines the causes and consequences of bad writing, and prescribes straightforward, easy-to-apply remedies that will make your writing readable. Complete with usage notes that address lawyers' most common errors, this well-organized book is both an invaluable tool for practicing lawyers and a sensible grounding for law students. This much-revised second edition contains a set of editing exercises (and a suggested revision key with explanations) to test your skill. This book is a definitive guide to becoming a better writer--and a better lawyer.
Customer Reviews:
Essential for Any Lawyer.......2006-04-25
Even though this book is 17 years old, it remains in the first rank. More extensive than Steven Stark's, more engaging than Garner's, Goldstein and Lieberman's book is my first choice for any lawyer seeking to become a competent writer. Part III, the longest part of the book is entitled, "Making Your Prose Serviceable," the part one must read. But particularly worthy is the Part following, "Making Your Prose Memorable." Even though few of us will ever attain that goal, it's worth trying. I can't think of another book in the genre suggesting such a lofty purpose. I appreciate having some guidance.
More than good writing advice........2002-07-22
Are lawyers professional writers? Could a law office benefit by adopting some methods of a book publisher or newspaper office?
Yes and yes, according to the authors of this excellent book.
The writing advice is superb, from commas to sentence length and from transitions to editing methods. But the best parts of the book are the suggestions for managing a law office so that it will produce consistent, top-notch written work. The authors recommend using proofreaders, training junior lawyers in editing, and employing someone in the position of copy editor. All great advice that would improve legal writing.
my favorite book of all times.......2000-02-19
i first purchased this "intriguing" book when living in chicago where i worked as "foreign patent specialist" and "senior tech writer/editor". When we moved to Las Vegas, after my retirement, I panicked when I realized that I've lost this book. Just open any page and savor the words in this book. Bravo to the authors. I wish I could shake their hands for a well-written and intriguing book.
Helpful tool for all lawyers and law students.......1998-07-26
Goldstein and Lieberman have authored a book every law professional and law student should consult. The glossary alone has enough helpful hints to improve one's writing.

Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2007-07-02
I like everything about woodturning. This book is no exception. You might also want to check the DVD Beyond Wood - Portrait of an Artist. You will see a lot of beautifully photographed pieces and interviews from years of research on the subject.
Segmented Wood Turning.......2007-01-05
This book was very inspiring. I've made several projects similiar to what is in the book. My work has been praised. Although the designing, cutting of pieces of wood and aleining is challenging; the end results are well worth the efforts.
wood turning.......2006-08-19
This book is very helpful and inspiring to any segmented bowl turner. Gives incentive to try the seemingly impossible combination of patterns.
want to learn segmented turning? get the book .......2006-06-03
This book is extremely well written and easy to understand with its great attention to detail. The photos and writings in this book are very detailed from beginning to end. Its truly like taking a course having an instructor explaining to you its that well written. Read the book, the guy is a natural born teacher. The book is printed on high quality sturdy pages. the photos are great. The book is so well detailed that every doubt or question i had was always answered within a page and a half. no questions were unanswered. He tells you how to turn with minimal tools and without complex formulas. If your just starting out get this book it could save you lots of money time and heartache. this book could be used by intermediate turners as well. This is the most detailed and best written instructional book i have ever read with exception of an html book.
Recommended for beginner.......2006-05-05
I just started turning segmented bowls 6 weeks ago - I started turning about 5 months ago. The turning club I joined recommended this book if I could only get one and Ray Allen's if I wanted two. I got both. Ray's seems more for advanced turners to me. This one sits by my table and I constantly refer to it as I'm building my first trys at segementing.
Highly recommend for a beginner like me. Helps you through all the tough spots and also helps to ask the right questions of other club members. If you don't belong to a club - join now.
