Book Description
Introduction to the Theory of Cooperative Games systematically studies the main solutions of cooperative games: the core, bargaining set, kernel, nucleolus, and the Shapley value of TU games, and the core, the Shapley value, and the ordinal bargaining set of NTU games. To each solution a separate chapter is devoted, in which its properties are investigated in full detail. Moreover, important variants are defined or even intensively analyzed. Separate chapters cover continuity, dynamics, and geometric properties of solutions of TU games. This study culminates in uniform and coherent axiomatizations of all the foregoing solutions (excluding the bargaining set). Except for the Shapley value such axiomatizations have not appeared in any book. Moreover,
Introduction to the Theory of Cooperative Games contains a detailed analysis of the main results on cooperative games without side payments. Such analysis is very limited or non-existent in the existing literature on game theory.

Book Description
Positive organizational change does not have to be planned or managed top down in a linear, urgent manner. Rather, it can be "unleashed" or discovered by helping people within organizations to identify their own best experiences in the past, and then use them to imagine, design, and bring into being the organization they most want and which works best. The method is called "Appreciative Inquiry." The volume editors and their panel of experts examine how AI works in practice, and how its many (and often surprising) benefits can be realized in just about any organization. The result is a major explication and source book for HR and organizational development specialists and upper level management trying to lead effective change. Detailed case reports from the field show how this unique approach is actually applied and what its consequences are. Readers will learn to identify the "positive core" of any system--the practices and principles that encourage the best in organizational capacity and performance. They will find not only specific outcomes but also some detailed reflections by practitioners on the use of Appreciative Inquiry. A volume summary lays out the themes and lesson that span the cases. Also presented are powerful and novel propositions on how to approach the crucial issues in organizational change. The result is a major explication and source book for HR and organizational development specialists.

Book Description
With increasing water scarcity, there is greater pressure to re-allocate water from agriculture to other uses, and to put in place institutional arrangements to promote higher value uses of water. Based on research by the International Water Management Institute, which reviewed developed and developing countries around the world, this book describes and applies functional theory of river basin management, based on the idea that there is a minimum set of functions that must be carried out for successful river basins.

Customer Reviews:
This book was horrible, even for first year teachers.......2007-08-06
I will be a first year Bio teacher this fall and so I went ahead and bought this book. In addition to the poor layout, the first 160 pages were useless. The only good thing about it was the sponge activities in the back of the book but even then I would probably only use them when we have a sub or as a "fun activity" to fill time. Going back to the layout, the author would put page after page of forms or examples in the MIDDLE of explaining what was going on. For example, you would start to read about a technique, or whatever, and then its 5 pages of example forms some related to what you just read, others related to something else, and then it would go back to discussing the technique.
Everything else in the book was common sense and taught in my graduate teaching courses (and my grad classes taught it much better).
I wouldn't suggest this book to anyone.
Biology Teacher's Survival Guide.......2006-07-10
lots of great ideas that should help me in my first classroom - THANKS!
Book is half usefull.......2006-06-06
I think this book is a great resource to make copies and transparencies of sponge activities or bell works but the rest of the book I did not find useful. It included some of the same things you are already introduced to as a new teacher in an induction program. But if you're looking for a good amount of sponge activities than this is a pretty good book.
Biology Teacher's Survival Guide.......2005-08-10
I am a new Biology teacher and will have Biology I, Bio I Honors, and Biology II Advanced Placement classes. This book had a lot of good ideas on activities to do and procedures to use in the classroom. I think that it will be a help to me this year.
Excellent reproducible items.......2003-08-26
I found this to be a very useful tool for teaching Biology. There are many puzzles and activities covering different Biology units, including genetics, physiology, and cell biology. Students enjoy the variety and the puzzles go along with most typical high school Biology textbooks.

Book Description
ew animals elicit the same mythical terror as sharks, and yet we know little about these elusive, ancient creatures. Internationally renowned shark researcher John A. Musick and science writer Beverly McMillan bring us along on a thrilling adventure as they track sharks from fossil quarries in Bear Gulch, Montana, to a nurse shark mating lagoon in the Dry Tortugas. By way of Alaska, Japan, the Bimini islands, and the world's leading shark-research labs, we discover how sharks navigate using electromagnetic signals, have a bloodhound's sense of smell, are both cold- and warm-blooded, and possess biochemical weapons that someday might help us fend off tumors and microbes. Excavating the secret lives of sharks from the dark recesses of the oceans, this captivating scientific exploration challenges us to rethink our relationship with sharks, leaving us with the question: Are humans the prey, or the predator?
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating Look into the World of the Shark.......2003-04-22
The tales of a shark researcher and his colleagues and friends serve as the vehicle for instructing the reader on the fascinating world of the Shark. This narrative trick works in this book much better than I had anticipated, since the vignettes presented quickly depart from the story of the researchers involved and delve into the secrets of the shark they uncovered instead. And the secrets are fascinating. Shark fossils, shark senses, shark sex, shark behavior, shark attack (of course), threats to sharks and surprising data on shark intelligence are all presented in a book that breezes by too quickly. Well worth the price of admission!

Great Book for Basic Understanding.......2007-07-10
I loved this book as it delivered on what it promises - to instill a basic understanding of the various components of the car. I also came away with an appreciation for the bigger picture - how these components work together.
The book is very well written and I found the checklist of the things to do at the end of each chapter very helpful. I agree with another reviewer here that the troubleshooting map at the end of the chapters were not as useful (especially for someone who is a beginner). But make no mistake; this is a very good book (and a fun read) if you just want to understand the inner workings of your car as well as pick up basic tips to maintain your car. If you want to learn to repair your car (as a mechanic does), then you need a different book. As for me, I will use this book to have a more intelligent conversation with my mechanic!
Cute, but perhaps a bit too beginner for some........2007-01-17
I knew hardly anything about cars prior to reading this book and after reading it, I feel like I could at least discuss small things with my mechanic and actually understand what is going on. That's exactly what this book is far - a VERY basic, general understanding of how cars work and how they can be maintained; if you want information on repairs and do-it-yourself stuff, better go with Dummies.
recycled version of previous book.......2006-07-11
This book is virtually identical, word-for-word and illustration-for-illustration, with "The Greaseless Guide to Car Care" by the same author. This is not stated anywhere, which leads me to conclude I should look elsewhere for consumer advice on cars.
Mary Jackson is within her rights as an author to update her book, change the title and the covers, etc., but she has a responsibility to inform her customers. She in fact withholds vital information about her product, a complaint often leveled at the auto repair industry.
The irony is that I bought these books to avoid being ripped off.
Excellent beginners guide .......2006-02-26
Author has done an excellent job in covering the basic workings of a car. As the title states it's a guide to 'understanding your car' and NOT repairing your car. A basic understanding of how cars work is necessary before one wants to repair or maintain his/her car.
Auto repair for dummies is better.......2005-07-23
Car smarts is good to understand the basic principles how a car works, but it touched too less in topics such as "How to check / repair by yourself" and "What tools you should buy". I read "auto repair for dummies" few years ago, it did better in this sense.

The Inu-yasha Experience: Fiction, Fantasy And Facts (Mysteries and Secrets Revealed)

Japanese high school student Kagome, magically whisked back to the past, accidentally releases the legendary doglike half-demon Inu-Yasha from his imprisonment. His crime? Stealing the powerful "Jewel of Four Souls." Now he must help Kagome reclaim the jewel to prevent other demons from using it for evil purposes. Thus begins the megapopular graphic novel series that has become a Cartoon Network and DVD phenomenon. Including both colorful cell art and paintings, this book showcases the fascinating characters and dramatic sequences found in the hit show. Page after page of full-color designs are here, along with character profiles, watercolors from the manga covers, and 66 pages of colored manga pages, many previously unpublished in the United States. The book also contains a discussion between the Japanese voice actors and creator Rumiko Takahashi, along with interviews with the series' co-creators.
Customer Reviews:
Love it.......2007-01-10
Great Book. It's a wonderful comparison of the manga and the Anime as well as a great reference for how each character is developed. Also makes a great picture book for my 2 year old. She sits with daddy and looks at the picturers.
Great Book!!!.......2006-11-11
This book has lots of interesting info on all the characters and enemies throughout the first part of this great anime/manga series Inuyasha. It has many full colored pages and director, voice actor, etc, commentary. It also features sketches of important characters and enemies in the series from Kagome, Inuyasha, Sango, Miroku to Kaede, Seshomaru, Jaken, Yura, Mistress Centipede, and many others. I found the sketches useful for learning how to draw. Anyways, this is definetly a must have for all Inuyasha fans.
excellent book for all ages who are into Inuyasha.......2006-07-06
I am actually over 13 years old , however I didnt want to give my email address out so I said I was younger. This is a great book. I bought it for my 16 year old son and he absolutely LOVES it. He is into drawing japanese animation and this book was a great inspiration. All of his friends who are mostly the same age want to get the book to. I did see it at Borders also , for the same price , and you dont have to pay shipping and handling charges, also you dont have to wait for it to show up. Borders also had a huge selection of other Inuyasha books and other Japanese animation characters.
Tons of great background on InuYasha.......2006-03-13
First of all, let me say my daughter is a complete InuYahsa addict. :) She loves the serial tale. That said, this book is marvelous! It has drawing examples, story snippets, voice character interviews.... very informative.
Beautifully colored drawings and detailed black and white work.
My only complaint refers to the hardbound version..... The spine of the book broke down the back very quickly and had to be taped. Otherwise the book is very well constructed.
Be aware the book is made to read from back to front in the typical Japanese manga manner. A little difficult for me, but my 9 year old daughter grasped the concept immediately....
Well worth the money for reference value alone.
better than expected.......2006-01-17
Other reviewers have given accurate particulars about this volume, and I agree with their high ratings. This book is really a delight and a perfect way to spend a couple hours in Inuyasha bliss. I was incredibly impressed with the color panels from the manga, taken from Shonen Sunday Jump. The beautiful printing job brings out the quality of Takahashi's art, and I find myself going back and studying these pages again and again. There is also a nice section at the beginning (short but sweet) about the difference between manga and animation when it comes to storytelling techniques. As it's been said elsewhere in these reviews, if you're a fan of Inuyasha, this is a must-have. Keep in mind this isn't a voluminous book with tons of text ... you can read the whole thing in just two or three hours. But the art in it, and its A-plus presentation here, offers many more hours of enjoyment and you may, like me, find yourself returning to this book repeatedly and feeling like you've picked it up for the very first time. The art in it is that good.

Customer Reviews:
Don't bother.......2006-03-23
This book is useless. They miss Sango and Shippou for one thing. and for another, NONE OF THIS INFORMATION IS NEW. I THOUGHT I was buying the novelazation of Inuyasha that was released in '04 in Japan which contained the first chapters redrawn by Takahashi and some other information, like what happened to Kagome's dad. Turns out this is just useless, everything in it you can find out from watching a episode or three of the series. And it's CONSTANTLY repeating itself. Yes. We know. Kikyou died. Now she's not. Why do they have to repeat it every other paragraph!?
Not as bad as others have said.......2005-08-22
I found this book entertaining and definitely not as bad as the other reviewers said. It's not necessarily a book for the older fans; I believe this is something for the younger and newly addicted IY fans that aren't as well-informed about the series as others (especially the die-hard ones) as well as the ones that don't understand the dynamics.
It's not necessarily a Miroku-hating book, they just seem to poke fun at him, almost as if they're making the book like the anime, interactive with the characters voices and opinions. They depict Miroku as a lecher, yes, but mostly in jest (My advice, don't take things so seriously when reading this), but the other reviewers also failed to mention that they also show Miroku as brave, friendly and all around strong.
Take a chance on this book, if not for yourself as a collector of IY items then for your children or a younger fan you know. It gives enough information to let your imagination run around and think for yourself.
Miroku Haters.......2005-01-31
According to this book, Miroku is 'a bad monk'. One of the reasons given is the time he beat up Jaken, who tried to kill him with the Saimyosho insects. This book fails to recognize that most of the time Miroku is nicer than Inuyasha. He is always there to help Inuyasha, Kagome, Sango and Shippo in battle. His advice tends to be wise, he is extremely intelligent. In the episode with Juramoru and Kageromaru, he jumps in front of Sango to save her.
Aside from this, the writers don't know how to spell Tetsusaiga. There is very little mention of Sango and Shippo, and it is overall a substandard read. I don't idealize Miroku, I know he's lecherous and a con man, but this book made him out to be downright evil!
Almost but Not Quite .......2004-11-16
This book has a lot of promise but essentially misses the boat from Japan. On the positive side there are several articles devoted to information about Inuyasha, Kagome, and Miroku, their possessions and abilities, and various Japanese words/meanings. The antagonists of the series are limited to Sesshomaru, Kikyo, and Naraku. On the negative side the book excludes at least half of the other characters prominent in the series. For instance, do not look for information on Sango, Shippo, Myoga or any number of other "good" or "bad" characters (several of which are mentioned in the featured chapters). Other minor problems the book includes is the lack of a consistent perspective and a casual/formal writing style. The perspective does not remain consistent between "I" and "we" (Who these pronouns refer to is never explained) and whether or not this is supposed to be a serious examination of the subject or a gossipy tabloid is also never decided. So one is left wondering many questions - how many are writing this? Is it referencing the manga or the anime or both? What's the differences? Is any of this based on actual fact (e.g. there are no books or episodes directly listed as source material)? Is this book simply to profess the writer's own emotions or thoughts about the series' characters, items, events, or progression? Too much excluded information, misinformation, and what could only be considered personal views made this a disappointing purchase.
