Book Description
A parent's guide to raising financially responsible children in an age of unprecedented wealth
It is natural as parents that we want to give our children the best of everything. And in an age of unprecedented wealth and easy credit, upper- and middle-income parents can indulge that urge like never before. Yet, you have become alarmed over the impact this newfound affluence may be having on your children. You fear that through your generosity you are training your children to be greedy, selfish spendthrifts. The first parenting guide to focus exclusively on this increasingly sensitive topic, Silver Spoon Kids was coauthored by a psychotherapist who counsels people with money-related emotional problems and a lawyer specializing in estate planning.
Drawing upon their experiences as members of the renowned NYU Family Wealth Institute, they tell you how to talk to kids about money, how to teach them to handle it responsibly, and how to instill in your kids a sense of giving to their communities.

How to help your children avoid entitlement.......2007-07-21
If you teach your children how to be financially responsible between the ages of 4 and 18, you have a much higher probability of having them not back at home living with you between the ages of 22 and 35.
Required Reading For Parents.......2007-05-12
I was introduced to this book while attending a financial seminar concerning the transfer of money to children. I read the book and passed it on to my children to use as a guide in bringing up their children. Money should give children an advantage to become happy and productive citizens. The sudden acquisition of money without adequate training in the use of wealth can have disastrous results as witnessed by the numerous sad stories of lottery winners. This book gives parents a guide on how to introduce children into the acquisition and proper use of money at an early age. Following the authors' advice can help parents raise financially responsible children.
Not for anyone who still works for a living.......2005-11-16
You do not *need* to give your children an allowance to teach them how to handle money. Really. The author's position is that you simply have to--and it makes you wonder if she also thinks it is okay to experiment with drugs in order to learn how to use them the "right" way. Just as you can educate children about the dangers of drugs without giving them any, you can also educate children about how to spend money wisely. One way is to take them grocery shopping with you, for example, and let them help you with calculating the best values for the money you have.
Others have said this book is good for those with middle class incomes. I disagree. If there will be any possible future scenario where your child will have to work for a living in any capacity, they need to know that money is NOT just handed to them, and that money belongs to the person who earned it (and the spouse, in community property states), NOT the children. This means that children need to learn that some things you do without compensation as being part of the family (chores), and other things you do in exchange for money (outside jobs or special jobs around the house) or something else (bartering). In real life, money is not just handed to you, unless you're on welfare. Someone has/had to earn that money at some point in time, and just handing money to someone will never educate them as to how to actually earn it.
This book might be okay for someone looking to leave their child a huge trust fund, where he or she just lives off the interest, but not for people trying to help their children truly make their own way in life.
Read this book along with your Dr. Spock!!.......2002-05-04

Book Description
The term organizational justice refers to perceptions of fairness within organizations. Justice as a social phenomenon has received a great deal of research attention from social psychologists. With new research on fairness in organizations, scholars in organizational behavior, industrial/organizational psychology, and managers are provided with practical orientations on how to create fair working environments. Although organizational justice is not a panacea for managers, it can help boost employee morale and cooperation. Perceptions of unfairness have been related to several negative reactions such as employee theft, lack of commitment, lawsuits, and recently aggressive behaviors in the workplace. Perceptions of fair treatment, on the other hand, have been related to attitudinal and behavioral outcomes such as employee commitment, trust, and cooperation that are conducive to organizational performance. The most important asset of any organization is its workforce and the way people are treated shapes attitudes and behaviors such as commitment, trust, performance, turnover, aggression, and all issues of human resources. As we are moving toward a more educated workforce, people want not only better jobs but also to be treated with respect and dignity in the workplace. We are entering an era in which issues of fairness in a diversity of forms will be high on the agenda of corporate management, thus a better understanding of issues of justice in modern organizations is imperative for human resource managers.

Book Description
Terrible maulings, terrifying close calls, and even humorous escapades are all part of this first-ever collection of Montana bear stories. 14 stories -- all true -- involve grizzly bears and black bears and the people who had the luck (usually bad) to encounter them. Exceptionally, well told by a Kalispell, Montana author.
Customer Reviews:
montana bear stories review.......2007-06-27
Great book! Very interesting true life stories that pull you in and let you experience some of these exciting adventures. Once I started the book, I could not put it down. A must read!
A wonderful collection of bear stories..........2006-07-31
I read this book after reading "Great Wyoming Bear Stories" (which was actually written after this book, and is intended to be a companion piece) and really enjoyed the stories and writing that Ben Long employed in this collection. Many of the tales go back to the late 19th/early 20th century, and into the present. I wouldnt call it a definitive book on the behavior of bears (if you are looking for that information, read something written by Stephen Herrero). Nonetheless, this is absolutely a great collection of stories concerning both grizzlies and black bears. My only complaint is that it wasnt longer. Definitely worth reading.
A Montanan's review.......2004-08-18
My mother loves bear stories and is constantly trying to get me to read them. She had just got Ben's book for her summer reading and I was lucky enough to spend most of my vacation with it. It is a great read and has provoked alot of discussion around the dinner table.
Be sure to read Ben's book on Lewis and Clark, too.

The greatest of all elephant books by the greatest of all elephant hunters, Karamojo Bell. Includes the diagrams of shot placement, perfected by Bell that made this book so desirable.
Customer Reviews:
The Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter.......2007-05-21
This is an excellent narration by the premiere elephant hunter of the early 20th Century. This extraordinary man presents adventures as simple matters of fact, as calmly as if he were recounting a normal day's work in some office. There is droll, and I believe "unintended" humor throughout the book. He gives a glimpse into the everyday life and perils of a short-lived profession that became a staple of early Hollywood adventure movies. Karamojo Bell was a master hunter who believed that the size of the bullet was not nearly as important as the placement of the shot. He hunted elephants with calibers that would only seem suitable for deer in today's hunting circles.
A CLASSIC AFRICAN HUNTING BOOK by W.D.M. BELL.......2006-03-22
Walter Dalrymple Maitland (W.D.M.) Bell(1880-1951) roamed Africa for a quarter of a century between 1897 and 1922. His main interest there was to collect ivory, and it was much easier back then, as safaris and safari outfitters were uncommon. The elephants and other African animals had no cause to fear men, and shots from the rifles were rare except those made by slave raiders. The best part was that there were plenty of elephants with tusk weighing 100 lbs or more on each side. Bell took full advantage of the situation.
Armed with low calibre rifles, he ventured into the elephant country on foot, and knowing the vital spots of the elephants, he drove the bullets right into their brain, heart or lungs causing instant death to the animals. The bullets were cheap, perhaps a box of 20 for a shilling. But the ivory collected from one elephant brought a luxury life, and Bell collected virtually tons of ivory during his wanderings in Africa, especially an area known as Karamojo (see Bell's 2nd book 'Karamojo Bell' published in 1949)
According to a biographer, Bell was 'arguably the greatest ivory hunter: Certainly the last'. Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter was Bell's first book, originally published by Macmillan in 1923. It contained several sketches and paintings prepared by Bell 'on the spot'. This reprint by Safari Press also reproduced all the illustrations and art works from the original edition, and to me it is much superior in quality than the ones published by Neville Spearman, London.

I really enjoyed this book after looking for it for a long time!! It is a classic of African hunting!
I will try to get more of his books!

Customer Reviews:
Where did they get these questions?.......2006-07-29
After reading other reviews, I thought that this book would be a good book to get. But I was very disappointed. I would not use almost any of the questions. Much of the questions are too personal to ask someone, and they don't provide useful information.
I suppose some people somewhere could use it ..........2005-11-11
I'd like to give the book a no-star rating, as I can't really say whether it is good or no good. I just have trouble imagining anyone actually using the thing. It actually IS a bare list of 4000 questions, divided into their most obvious topical classifications, for people who can't think of anything else to say. "Think" is the operative word here, as they say; questions tend to pre-suppose more thinking than mere declarative statements. So I suppose the idea is to impress people with your intellect, though I can't ever remember seeing or hearing much evidence that intellect is what matters in how Americans form an estimate of each other. And, in the heat of trying to get close to someone (in whatever sense), do you really think you'll REMEMBER these lines? Sort of like that picture you have of the tourist leafing through their phrasebook, looking for the right phrase, with the ultimate joke of the joke knowing that the thing was left behind the bidet. Or the cartoon about the ineptico who tried courting the girl he'd picked out the herd by referring to a list of things to talk about over dinner if things wound down a bit early.
Are these people serious? Is American culture really so autistic and de-brained that these people need guidance on what to talk about, not just with a member of the opposite sex that's rendered you speechless but ANYBODY?
Well, I just don't think you're going to get laid with this book. Or get a job. Or distract the host while your significant other (assuming you could snag one) makes off with the blender.
So So, 4000 devided by 2.......2005-07-30
I am not very outgoing, so I thought this book would help me start some conversations with people I don't know. Yes, there are some questions I never would have thought to ask, an some questions I had fun answering my self. However, there are so many duplicates! Just the same question rewritten 5 different ways! Not to mention, most of the questions were a little too personal to be asking someone you don't know. It is a great book to sit down with your mate on a rainy or snowy winter night, and each read a few questions. If for nothing else, you may learn a few new things about yourself!
4,000 Questions for Getting to Know Anyone and Everyone.......2005-07-19
I bought this book as a sort of game for my fiance' and I. I figured with 4000 questions, how could it be anything but dull?
I was disappointed as I flipped through the book, to see that we had already asked each other most of these questions. I was looking for interesting, conversation sparking questions--and these were your streotypical "just getting to know you" questions. We resorted to making up our own questions.
If you want a general book with general questions, this is for you. If you're looking for a more in depth, personal book with exciting questions--this is NOT it.
Random is good.......2005-07-14
This book contains many unique and random questions aimed at starting discussions. It has provided much entertainment in any setting and really allows you to get to know others.
Book Description
In this landmark book on the creative process, the bestselling author of The Artist's Way reveals the intricate soul work artists must undertake in order to find inspiration.
In The Sound of Paper, Julia Cameron delves deep into the heart of the personal struggles that all artists face. What can we do when we face our keyboard or canvas with nothing but a cold emptiness? How can we begin to carve out our creation when our vision and drive are clouded by life's uncertainties? In other words, how can we begin the difficult work of being an artist?
Drawing upon her many years of personal experience as both an artist and a teacher, Julia Cameron guides readers to a place where they can find the strength and courage to create. Demonstrating how this involves a process of constant renewal, of starting from the beginning, she writes, "When we are building a life from scratch, we must dig a little. We must be like that hen scratching the soil: 'What goodness is hidden here, just below the surface?' we must ask."
With exercises designed to develop the power to infuse one's art with a deeply informed knowledge of the soul, this book is an essential artist's companion from one of the foremost authorities on the creative process. Julia Cameron's most illuminating book to date, The Sound of Paper provides readers with a spiritual path for creating the best work of their lives.
Customer Reviews:
Laughably "creative" prose and name-dropping.......2007-07-22
First off, this is nothing new. If you've read any of Cameron's other books, you're not going to find much new here. How many more books does the author need to sell convincing us to "do morning pages?"
As you read along thinking you might come across something worth your time, something helpful and encouraging for your writing process, the reader encounters laughable prose. For example, on page 223 : "As a young writer I wrote a novel that no one wanted to read. It sat, UNMOLESTED, on a living room table..." That line alone required more than just a doubletake. It was absolutely ridiculous and, and real, GOOD writers would have edited that out in spite of their inner screaming 12 year old editor of 1975 who felt it was "cool and original, man."
Also included are comparisons appropriate for middle schoolers; phrases reminiscent of "pretty as a picture." On page 68 : "The season is as beautiful as a young girl turning into a woman." Rather than keep my attention on the subject at hand, I burst into laughter, recalling the terrible comparisons I once used as a young writer. But Cameron was not attempting humor here.
Aside from the laughable prose, the name-dropping is obnoxious. As a reader of a book on creativity, I resent being sold-to. Because it's not just name-dropping, it is also unnecessary, irrelevent detail about the books her friends have written.
I found this book at the library. If you're really curious and want to give it a try, I suggest you do the same.
A less-biased review.......2005-05-07
I'm more of a moderate fan than other reviewers here. As one reviewer points out, much of it is already in "The Artist's Way," though I liked how she described the basic tools (morning pages, artist's date, walks) much more concisely.
The focus of the book is vague but taken together, many of the exercises are a hodge-podge of lifetime goal-setting, overcoming procrastination, self-analysis, and finding creative outlets.
Some exercises, though, appear aimless - more like "busy work" - and their purpose remained unexplained throughout the book. For example, why am I making "a collage of the present moment?" Moment meaning this day? This hour? This 'place' in my life? What will I do with it? What will I do with it tomorrow or should I make another one then? Another example: listing 25 things that represent success and sophistication to you. Why? Am I to analyze this list, realize it, or revise it?
This book is fine if you're seeking journaling material or ways to add a little fun in your life in general. But in that sense, it's just one of many (such as Charlotte Davis Kasl's "Finding Joy," or most anything by Sark) and doesn't really stand out.
As for procrastination or goal-setting, I'd recommend a more focused book than this - perhaps one by Barbara Sher, Marsha Sinetar, Eric Maisel, Jeff Davidson, or even one of the books by Ron Rubin and Stuart Avery Gold.
Scratching below the surface of the writing life.......2005-03-12
Cameron is one of the most intimate informal writing mentors for people at any stage of artistic recovery and reclaiming. The Sound of Paper brings the journey to a level of essence - if your essence is to write then Cameron shares her experiences of the highs and lows. An addition to any tool kit in the creativity box of artistic living. Another great find is The Artist's Way Kit... jammed with ideas of how to date yourself, conceive, and give birth to your stories.
Thank the Great Creator for Julia.......2005-02-11
This book came at a great time for me, hitting me where I live and reminding me why I so appreciate (and am grateful to) Julia Cameron. The short essays in this book make for easy inspirational reading whenever you need it -- you can pick it up and start almost anywhere, which is handy. But don't let the short length of the essays diminish the great things this book as a whole is capable of conveying to writers who are suffering creative blocks. There's also a great deal of wisdom here for professional writers who are feeling uprooted and/or unappreciated after months of bleeding on their pages. A must for writers who've been on the path a while and are thirsty for companionship and understanding.
Read _The Artist's Way_ first; this book is not all new.......2004-09-28
If you have read _The Artist's Way_, you will recognize many of the exercises in this book. That's not necessarily a bad thing; it may inspire you to try them again in a new context, but if you are expecting all-new material from Julia Cameron, you won't get it. That said, her essays written over the course of a year take you on the path of creativity with her. Because it is a journey, if you sit down and read this book in a week, you'll have a good picture of the author's journey, but if you want to gain as an artist, that's not the way to use this book. Read a little, try some of the suggested exercises, take what you can use at this time in your life.
If you've never read any of Julia Cameron's work before, I don't recommend this as an introduction; read _The Artist's Way_ first. In this book, she does not explore in depth some of the concepts that she assumes the reader will take for granted (such as a belief in God -- in _Artist's Way_, she better explains how she views the concept of "God" in a way that even an atheist might buy into).
I enjoyed reading the author's thoughts, but never having lived in NYC or ever wanting to, sometimes I had trouble relating to her perspective in the way she illustrated those thoughts. Still, the exercises allow you to relate the ideas she brings up to your own experience, and that makes the book an interesting tool in one's own creative journey.
