Customer Reviews:
It's a road map through the contract lawyering maze.......2000-04-23
This is an excellent resource for a rapidly developing area of legal practice. It describes the history and context of contract lawyering, discusses ethical, tax and malpractice concerns, and includes charts, graphs, worksheets and five useful appendices. It even offers summaries of relevant state, local and national ethics opinions. Anyone contemplating becoming or hiring a contract lawyer should read this book.
The authors know their stuff.......1999-10-23
This is an excellent and thoroughly-researched resource for anyone considering entering into a temporary legal relationship, either as a contracting attorney or hiring attorney. It's well-organized and thoughtfully written, and one of the chapters even includes sample letters of engagements and retention agreements, a handy starting point for newcomers to the world contract lawyering.
The best book to start investigating contract lawyering.......1999-10-23
There are significant risks and benefits with contract lawyering arrangements. For those practitioners who are, or who may become involved in such arrangements, this book is an extremely useful and cost-effective tool in developing an awareness of several critical issues. The book is readable, without jargon, and does not fail to address a variety of problem areas, namely conflicts of interest, client consent, billing and professional malpractice liability coverage.
A practical and realistic book; lots of valuable information.......1999-10-23
What I liked about the book is that it dealt effectively with the questions about lawyer temping that I wouldn't have thought to ask and proceeded to answer them all. I also liked the step-by-step guide for marketing yourself as a contract lawyer. Best of all, tho, it's got sample forms and contracts and covers issues like malpractice insurance, independent contractor status and all the ethical issues involved with being a contract lawyer.

Book Description
This is an updated version of the best selling first edition, Ecological Census Techniques, with updating, some new chapters and authors. Almost all ecological and conservation work involves carrying out a census or survey. This practically focussed book describes how to plan a census, the practical details and shows with worked examples how to analyse the results. The first three chapters describe planning, sampling and the basic theory necessary for carrying out a census. In the subsequent chapters international experts describe the appropriate methods for counting plants, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds. As many censuses also relate the results to environmental variability, there is a chapter explaining the main methods. Finally, there is a list of the most common mistakes encountered when carrying out a census.

Excellent book for students.......2007-08-27
This is an excellent book for the studying ecologist or field biologist, a professional would certainly want more, such as Techniques for Wildlife Investigation and Management by the Wildlife Society. This handbook is just that and it offers the basics for just about any survey. For undergraduates interested in independent studies or grad students just getting started, this is your book. It will guide you through everything from sampling techniques based on specific classes (ie fishes, amphibians, etc.) to statistical analysis and common errors.
Ecological Censusing Techniques.......2001-05-14
This book is useful and unbiased. It covers both animal and plant censuing. I found it very useful and informational.

Circle of Life in East Africa Documented in Stunning Photographs.......2006-08-29
Pay heed to the subtitle of this book - "Natural Order on the African Plain" - as it does not shy away from images that may not show up in a children's book. I'm so glad this tome is still in publication, as it is a beautifully photographed document of life and death on the Serengeti Plain that stretches across Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa. Photographer Mitsuaki Iwago has captured the vibrancy of the mythic wildlife of this expansive area, in particular, the scope of the Great Migration, when over a million wildebeest and zebra travel hundreds of miles in search of water.
Iwago has a wondrous eye for detail, whether it's an uninterrupted pattern of zebras with their heads bowed to drink up from a watering hole or a gaggle of hungry hawks gnawing on the dead carcass of a lion. My personal favorites are any pictures showing adult animals and their children and the ones showing the Masai villagers living so naturally amid the wildlife. Even the eye-wincing scenes of death make for vivid reminders of how essential the cycle of life is on the plain. I have been lucky enough to have been on safari on the Masai Mara, which is the northern part of the plain, and the images in Iwago's book perfectly evoke my experiences on the range rover as we looked at life happen. This is a great coffee-table book at the right size not to be overwhelming.
Excellent choice if you're going or have gone..........2006-08-04
This book has the pictures we wish we could have taken, excellent information, covers the serengeti from rain season to dry. Highly recommend for someone going to or who has been to the serengeti.
Picture book.......2004-01-27
The pictures are stunning.
But it is only a coffee-table book, and there it will remain, because pictures is all it is. You get no sense of place; it is impossible to orient yourself ... a nice picture of an elephant is just that, and this book provides no context whatever.
But, it does have nice pictures.
Pictures, just pictures.......2002-05-17
The pictures are fine, but this book won't show anyone interested in wildlife anything new - & it doesn't explain anything...
Wildlife and nature photography at its best!.......2002-01-21
These images bring the Serengeti to you. This being largely a pictoral tour of the Serengeti, words do it little justice. If you are an intelligent animal lover with a pulse, you will pay twice the cover price for this book.

Based on Pure Myth.......2005-10-26
Wow. Incredible. This book shows how Hasan ibn Sabbah's assassins secretly boarded an enemy's boat. Sabbah's castle wasn't exactly ocean-front or lake-front property. But never mind that.
This book is based on pure myth. If you want good pure myth, read the novel on Hasan ibn Sabbah -- ALAMUT by Vladimir Bartol. At least that book was a bestseller across Europe, so it has some credibility. If you want greater truth on Sabbah and his so-called "cult," read Bernard Lewis (The Assassins) or Farhad Daftary (The Assassin Legends). Neither book will tell you how to assassinate your spouse's secret lover, but you won't regret the money you spend once you've finished, and you'll actually have learned something about terror, myth and civilization.
I Wont Let Anyone Borrow This Book.......2005-09-13
Not because I think the information is secret or anything, just that I would hate to see one of my irresponsible associates mess it up. One of the first books by Dr.HaHa Lung I have purchased, I find it interesting and educational. The drawings are a little uh... well, the book makes up for them. Oh, and 2 things, if you were going to do anything in that book get Night Movements(the japanese/english translation), Art of War (the WAR not business or other BS association) and a decent medicinal anatomy book. You can learn more from those three than any NINJA book - or you can just get "Im An Idiot And Want To Be Shot In the Face - For Dummies". Secondly, if you think the Stephen Hayes' books are educational or more instructive - you dont need to buy the book in quotations above, you wrote it. So go ninja-hop off a cliff. or something.
An interesting book.......2004-12-23
First, for Roger in Las Vegas...if your review is for real, and you went around dressed as a ninja, you were asking for it.
For the fellow in Seattle...sorry to hear that. In the US, 75% of the time a martial artist goes to court, they lose. Public perception (even in cases of self defense) is, "That karate guy didn't have to beat up that guy (or guys) so bad."
As for the book, a most interesting history lesson indeed. As for the techniques in the book, as a reviewer stated here no one is going to become a fighter by reading a book about it.
I did find the illustrations (pencil sketches) most interesting in that quite often the victim is made to look like a Crusader with a huge cross on his shirt. Unlike other martial arts books, the knife techniqures are also illustrated with the knife being plunged into someone's body. There's no doubt the illustrations are to teach Islam's view of all "infidels" along with the techniques. If you don't think so, check out the illustration of the captive in a cage or box, and the assassin standing over him holding a knife....and the captive's head.
(The only other time I've seen such ilustrations was in a translated KGB manual and victims were shown in US Army uniforms, with 1st CAV. Div. patches).
I will say this for the book- at least it doesn't start out with 25 lapel grabs and other such things geared for 1800's Japan. In comparison to the run of the mill martial art book, it's a book on bare-handed assassination techniques and knife techniques. We are definitley not talking "dojo ballet" here.
A good book, but not revolutionary........2004-07-20
The book is mostly a history book on the hashishin cult, many techniques are covered but Lung tends to not highlight them, so they are dispersed freely around in the text, i.e., the psychological warfare techniques used to plot two enemies against one another. As for the physical fighting techniques, they're pretty ok but this book, as all other books does in no way make a reader a better fighter simply by reading it. A fighter is as good as the amount of training he puts into his fighting skill, there is no simpler way of saying it.
good book.......2004-06-09
This is a good book. If your familiar with Lung's other work you will like this too. However this isnt in my opinion Lung's best it was still quite good. Lots of interesting history, more history than in his other books. Also I just have to say, Roger, for someone who thouroghly read this book you must have missed the disclaimers, FOR ACADEMIC USE ONLY!!! You don't learn how to fight especially entire gangs from a book and if your that unintelligent to not understand that, then im afraid you got what you had coming. Your lucky you didn't get killed.

Everything Newcomers Need to Know About New York.......2005-10-24
The Newcomers Handbook for Moving to and Living in New York City is a thorough and comprehensive book that tells the reader almost everything that he or she needs to know about the New York City metropolitan area. The book provides detailed descriptions of a wide variety of neighborhoods and communities in and around New York City. The detailed descriptions give a good sense of what each neighborhood and community is about and thus enable the newcomer to narrow his or her focus in terms of finding the right place to live. The book also provides a great deal of useful information. This information includes sources of services, names of government agencies, names and addresses of retail establishments, and guidance on the process of apartment-hunting that seems to be unique to New York City. As if to highlight its attention to detail, the book includes a Manhattan Address Locator on page five. This odd little table provides the "secret formula" for finding out the cross streets for almost any address anywhere on the island of Manhattan. Newcomers will find this item particularly useful as they try to navigate their way across Manhattan in search of housing and employment. I highly recommend this book to any newcomer to the New York City metropolitan area.
not really for moving or living in NYC.......2005-05-26
The neighborhood descriptions take up the first 150 pages, but they are written for a turist guide, not a "moving guide". There is no mention of prices, or managing companies, or name of buildings. It is paradoxical that the best advice in this guide for the purpose of finding buildings is to buy another guide: Gabriel's Apartment Rental Guide
Other information take up the rest of the book (roughly page 150 to 400). This section includes the following lists: some realtors, some movers, utilties, some banks, some child-related services, some shops, some theaters and more. Most of these lists do not appear comprehensive, or selected according to some specific criterion. I believe you can find the same information on the internet or the yellow pages.
There is some useful information, but not much of it. It might have also some modest value in making some of the information readily accessible. All in all, I regret the purchase.

Customer Reviews:
Great insights...different from your typical self-help book.......2007-05-04
I bought this book after reading all of the positive reviews. It's unique in that instead of focusing on how to understand what really goes on in men's heads, it helps the reader focus on what she may be doing wrong in her dating experiences. (Basically, the common element in all of your relationships is YOU, so perhaps you're the problem...she has a nicer way of saying it...) Her categories of different types of women are quite insightful, and I was pleased to discover some unique ideas that provided good perspective. Instead of being a PhD and offering philosophical mumbo-jumbo, this person was writing from real-life experiences that rung true. It reminded me a bit of the book "If I'm So Wonderful, Why Am I Still Single?" It's good that it's empowering, rather than having a victim mentality. A good read.
A Must Read for Any Single Person.......2005-03-29
Dateworthy (datwûr'the): adj. Fit to be dated; An individual who is worth your time and attention.
Every single person as well as everyone who is currently in a relationship should read this book. Dennie expertly guides you through the process understanding that if you want to meet someone dateworthy you have to be dateworthy yourself. Then by examining past tendencies as well as understanding what you should be looking for you can find someone who is truly dateworthy.
Bottom Line: This is the book you want to read if you are ready to find the "right" person aka someone who is "Dateworthy".
The Ultimate Date Reference Guide.......2005-03-26
"Dateworthy" is a MUST READ for the dateweary. Dennie Hughes takes lessons learned from her own dating experiences and incorporates years of know-how as a relationship or should I say "relationtip" columnist for the USA Weekend to offer good solid dating advice that works. However, if you are on your way out the door for your next date attempt, this is not for you. "Dateworthy" requires thought before practice. This book is ideal for women reevaluating current situations or starting from scratch. The adventurous need not read. My favorite subject matter is the reality check for the "Fractured Fairy Tales" where Ms. Hughes reviews the so-called myths taught to women from childhood about love and marriage.
Dateworthy is worth reading.......2005-02-25
I loved this book and I loved that Ms. Hughes didn't just write about this from an analyst side-line point of view. She was really in those dating trenches and all the advice works from a real life perspective. The quizzes make you think. The relationtips alone are worth the price of the book. And the dating stories were must-see-TV worthy. With all the post-it notes I have stuck in it, it has literally become my constant dating reference book. Buy this book and be prepared to share it with your friends.
Take It From a Former Diva.......2005-02-02
It's a new me for the new year, and Dennie Hughes is the reason why. I'm a freelance stylist, so I travel for work, and I seem to have an endless amount of gay guy friends (who I love) but no boyfriend. After reading Dateworthy, I realized I might be just a touch of a Diva.(Yes, I admit it!) I'm going to take Dennie's advice, take February off from serial dating, and in March take a fresh look at things... This book is perfect for girls willing to take an honest look at themselves and the men they are attracted to!
