is worth buying and worth reading although somehow technical.
Book Description
Reveals the strategies and leadership behaviors required to manage and integrate fundamental change. Uses illustrative examples of CEOs who have successfully led radical rethinking of purpose and priorities, vision, and the very structure and functions of the organization itself.

This book is too abstact for practitioners. I recommend "Strategic Organizational Change" by Beitler. Beitler is a practitioner.
Some Good Stuff if Your Patience is Strong Enough.......2002-12-19
As a student of change and one who writes and consults on the subject I found this pretty academic and full of theory. These folks get connected at the top of companies and then feedback to everyone what they observe from the mountaintop. What they dont seem to consider is whats happening along the way up - since they fly with the executives. There are a few scraps in here if you have time to find them. Average at best.
Gets to the heart of the matter.......1999-05-09
This excellent text on change management focuses on the role that human nature and psychology play in management, and offers wise advice on how to implement significant change, such as in the transition from a project management based organization to a TQM or balanced scorecard (continuous) management process, or to support business process improvements or reengineering. It is optimistic and helpful -- and short enough to give to your senior managers. Get several copies and pass around; this is a low-cost/low-risk way to get change management started in your organization.

Book Description
Dr. Jacqueline N. Crawley, author of the First and Second Editions of What’s Wrong with My Mouse? Behavioral Phenotyping of Transgenic and Knockout Mice, continues to field calls and e-mails from molecular geneticists who ask: how do I run behavioral assays to find out what’s wrong with my mouse?
Turn to What’s Wrong with My Mouse? to discover the wealth of mouse behavioral tasks and to get the guidance you need to select the best methods and necessary controls. Chapters are organized by behavioral domain, including measurements of general health, motor functions, sensory abilities, learning and memory, feeding and drinking, reproductive, social, emotional, and reward behaviors in mutant mice. Throughout the chapters, new behavioral tasks and new research discoveries have been added, bringing the Second Edition up to date with the latest science. In addition, the Second Edition includes two new chapters:
"Neurodevelopment and Neurodegeneration" discusses mouse behavioral tasks relevant to neurodevelopmental diseases, such as mental retardation and autism, and to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
"Putting It All Together" recommends strategies for optimizing a battery of behavioral phenotyping tests to address your specific hypotheses about gene functions.
The final chapter, "The Next Generation," examines new and emerging technologies.
Throughout the book, the use of behavioral testing equipment is illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and representative data. Examples of behavioral tasks successfully applied to transgenic and knockout mouse models are provided, as well as references to the primary literature and step-by-step methods protocols. These features, along with a comprehensive index, listings of database and vendor websites, and an extensive list of references, make this book a valuable and practical resource for students and researchers.
Customer Reviews:
Valuable Book.......2002-11-19
"...this valuable book is currently the most complete overview of behavioral procedures available...it is a must have and a must read book..." (Genes, Brain, and Behavior, 2002)
Essential Book.......2001-07-24
"I would recommend that every behavioral scientist has at least two copies, one for their own use and one that will be on permanent loan to their students, post-doctoral students and colleagues in molecular biology." -- TRENDS in Pharmacological Sciences (Gerard R. Dawson, Merck Sharp & Dohme Research Laboratories)
Expert Review.......2001-07-24
"[T]his volume succeeds as a useful introduction to the realm of behavioral phenotyping for those interested in creating or using the large and increasing number of promising targeted mutant mice." -- TRENDS in Neurosciences (John K. Belknap, Oregon Health Sciences University)
Review.......2000-06-15
It is a much prized addition... and fulfills a heretofore unmet need for a comprehensive sourcebook of mutant mouse literature and procedures. In addition to its reference utility, Dr. Crawley's text can exert a valuable influence on the future of transgenic and knockout mouse research by standardizing behavioral phenotyping methods according to the present state-of-the-art. --Stephen C. Heinrichs, Ph.D., Boston College
an excellent resource.......2000-06-08
Very timely given the increasingly recognized importance of providing behavioral phenotypes of mutant mice. I would recommend the book with enthusiasm. --Eric Nestler, Yale University School of Medicine
Book Description
One of the most dramatic wildlife stories of our times -- the ever-increasing presence of a wholly new species, literally part wolf, in every suburb, city, and backyard east of the Mississippi Catherine Reid left her hometown in western Massachusetts in the 1970s, when people were just beginning to talk about a new creature sliding from the southwest into New England via Ontario, a canid bigger than a coyote, not quite large enough to be a wolf. Back home after decades away and settling into an old farmhouse with her female partner, Reid writes, "A mixture of fear and fascination compel me to take up the hunt. I want to see a coyote, I want to know its story, I want to unravel the way it intersects my own." Her search for this outlaw species leads her to rich and remarkably controversial fieldwork; to a session with a coyote litter in captivity; and, eventually, to spine-tingling sightings in the wild. Reid alerts us to the extraordinary story of evolution in action unfolding under our very noses, the story of an animal that is a "mix of wolf and coyote, old and new, necessary and fierce and wily." As Reid's beautifully grounded writing shows, the eastern coyote in its hundred-year migration from the western plains to New England has picked up wolf DNA and a little-understood combination of coyote and wolf behaviors. The eastern coyote typically weighs considerably more than its western cousin, many well over fifty pounds. The size of the eastern coyote and its ability to take such prey as deer, as well as domestic dogs and cats, have left some ecologists to wonder whether we'll call this animal living among us "coyote" or "wolf" in another twenty years. Coyote rekindles our age-old fascination with coyote as trickster, coyote (as Mark Twain put it) as "living, breathing allegory of Want." And it suggests, through a wealth of astonishing evidence, that we will all need to forge a brand-new relationship to this large, until recently unknown, and uncannily intelligent hunter in our midst.
Customer Reviews:
Sadly, not really about coyotes.......2007-10-14
I second the reviewer who called this book a "bait and switch". It's marketed as a book about coyotes, but it's mostly about the author -- her family relationships, her teaching experiences, her partner's hip replacement surgery. If you really just want to know more about coyotes, this book will only frustrate you.
Coyote: Seeking the Hunter in our Midst.......2007-03-09
Book was disjointed. It seemed to be as much about the author's relationship with a partner than about the Coyote. I was disappointed.
I did not learn much about the Coyote. Would NOT reccommend the book.
A gem.......2007-01-10
Written with a style that reminds one of silk, this book blends emotion with obsession and was plain riveting. I share the author's fascination for that animal, (along with foxes, owls, and just about any wildlife), so I am biased. Yet Reid's beautiful prose transcends her subject, adds a unique depth to the world she describes, and plunges the reader into her world painted with a keen photographic eye, a world that is closer to a coyote's than any city dweller's or the world of someone not familiar with wildlife.
From a technical point of view, I found the book quite informative on its subject, namely the "new" coyote of the East. There are few general books on the animal, with most written by or for hunters. While readers looking for an encyclopedic study of the animal may feel the book falls short, they should revisit the extensive bibliography the author provides, quotes from, and aptly introduces within her story. And be reminded that no matter what, the coyote remains one of the most secretive and elusive animals ever, with very little known about it.
A frustrating bait-and-switch.......2006-05-25
The title, and the description on the book jacket, make it seem as if this book has something to do with coyotes. Unfortunately, it doesn't.
The book is really about the author. This would be fine if Reid made herself come across as more interesting but she comes across as pretty ordinary. She grew up in a small town in Massachusetts, felt confined because she is a lesbian, and now teaches writing in a small college. She's politically correct when discussing politics with her creative writing students. After having moved away from her home, in her middle age she rediscovers the importance of family and place. Her partner suffers from some middle-age health problems, while our heroine does not. Her family and her community welcome her and love her. This is not the stuff of drama but of white middle-class life in America.
Through it all, Reid identifies with the coyote. It's moving into places it hasn't been before, or maybe those are places where it was before, after all. It's mixing with domestic dogs and much wilder wolves. Some people welcome it, while some people are afraid. OK, OK, OK, I get it.
SPOILER ALERT: she spends the book trying to see a coyote, and she eventually does.
That said, Reid is a talented observer of nature. The book is at its best when she describes walks, gardening, or just observing birds or small mammals across a field. I would have liked much more of that.
Those small observations worked much better for me than the Quest for a coyote. Apparently, some reviewers find the idea of a coyote hidden in the bushes at night pretty thrilling. Maybe I'm jaded, but they're not exactly thrilling or dangerous. I'm always happy to see one, though.
The bottom line is: I wanted to learn something about coyotes, and I didn't. Instead, I learned about the author, and having done that, didn't really need to.
Catherine Reid captures the coyote's changing role in nature and impact on humans .......2006-03-07
The increasing presence of a new kind of coyote, part wolf, is one of the most moving wildlife stories of modern times, and poet/naturalist Catherine Reid captures the coyote's changing role in nature and impact on humans in Coyote: Seeking The Hunter In Our Midst. Reid isn't a scientist, but she studied enough wildlife biology in college to support extensive library research on the topic, interviews of observers, and travel with researchers who track coyotes. A moving natural history evolves.
Book Description
In the early 60s, front-engine dragsters, or slingshots, featured tubular built chassis powered by a variety of power plants, consisting of small-block Chevrolets, Chrysler Hemi's, Ford, Pontiac, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Lincoln motors either fueled on Nitro Methane or pump gas. Wheelbases varied from 110 inches in 1962 to over 200 inches in 1969. During the early sixties, racing legend "Big Daddy" Don Garlits ran a series of "Swamp Rat" dragsters which not only dominated the quarter-mile, but many of his creations were made by using experimental aerodynamic parts to give better traction and faster speeds. During a fuel ban from the late 50s to the early 60s, many chassis builders utilized a two-engine power plant to gain more power that was lost due to running pump gas instead of fuel. One of the most popular twin-engine dragsters was the "Fright Train", powered by twin small-block Chevrolets. The dragster was driven by 16-year-old Bob Muraviez who used the alias name of Floyd Lippencott, Jr. to fool his parents who did not approve of his racing. Near the end of the 60s, the Chrysler Hemi came to dominate Top-fuel racing, as it produced tremendous torque and horsepower. These dragsters were the quickest accelerating vehicles in motorsports. Elapsed times in the quarter-mile were ranging from the 8-second bracket in the early 60s to the low 7's late in the decade with speeds over 200 mph.In 1970 at the AHRA Nationals at Lion's Dragstrip (Long Beach, CA), Don Garlits experienced a violent clutch explosion that cut his dragster in two and severed a portion of Don's right foot. After being sidelined for several months, Don returned to racing with an innovative rear-engine, top-fuel dragster, which would eventually spell demise for the front-engine dragsters. Relive the 60s era of the front-engine dragster, nicknamed the slingshot for it's aerodynamic design in crisp high quality color and black and white photos. Enjoy memorable moments from some of the famed drivers that are highlighted throughout this book.

Customer Reviews:
Terrible CD!.......2005-10-29
I went through three lessons before canning this CD. The lessons were terrible! Sometimes they stated the French word before the English word and sometimes afterward, which meant you could be learning the wrong word! The pronounciations were nowhere near the way the French speak; they were like what a HS French teacher who'd learned from a book and never been to France would speak.
This book is not for the novice.......2005-06-02
This book is not for someone who just wants to pick up enough French to get them through a trip unless they have a good ear and memory. I found "French in 10 Minutes a Day" much better as you must write what you learn in a workbook.
Stop thief!!.......2004-12-31
Get this set if you plan on having a bad time. Barely will you be in to 'Good evening' when the lessons quickly turn to "Stop thief!" or "He stole my watch" or better yet, "I want an attorney" -- all of which are phrases I have NEVER used in France. Fodor's should have had the good sense to give practical lessons first, etiquette, directions, service, culture etc. before launching into rude commands and pick-pocket paranoia.
A must if you're traveling to a French-speaking country!.......2004-04-23
Having had a year of French in college, I was concerned that this Audio book would be too basic for me, but I found out it wasn't! It does cover some very basic things (greetings, numbers, etc.) which would be more helpful for beginners, but it also covers typical situations in a trip (airport, restaurant, accommodations, etc.), for which the vocabulary and grammar may not be learned until advanced level courses.
It comes with 2 Audio CD's of about 70 minutes each, broken into 12+ lessons. The book has all the phrases/conversations in the CD's, plus some additional tips/info, as well as a dictionary section with vocabulary targeted for travelers. The book has 260+ pages and it is of very small size, so it is ideal for carrying it around in your trip.
I listened to the CD's while driving, though I recommend reading the corresponding lessons afterwards or in advanced to listening to the disc, as it helps to associate the spelling to the pronunciation. The CD's mostly have words and phrases in them, but they also have small conversations at a bank/restaurant/hotel/airport depending on the lesson. Each word/phrase in the disc is spoken once in English and then twice in French, so you can't miss it if you're paying attention.
I strongly recommend this item, even if you already have basic understanding of French, as it will help you communicate and get around in your trip!
thank goodness i saw this in the store!.......2004-03-08
i just returned from my first trip to paris. although i had two years french in college, that has been ~14 years and i was fairly concerned about being able to communicate well. i did some review work with conversational french tapes and was going to depend on that when a friend pointed this book out to me. i bought it to take along.
this book is a treasure trove of useful phrases and cultural information, a lot of which is not in the travel guides. the dictionary at the back was very useful, although i wish it had been a bit more comprehensive. between the dictionary and some college french, i was able to enjoy paris IN french, instead of broken english. i hope it brings you the same benefits.

Book Description
Master Sugoi's origami normally features classical figures, animals, creatures, and design, but Pornogami shows a new side of his talent. A piece of pornogami folded in the right setting, he discovered, can produce smiles and laughter in a way that no butterfly or bird ever could. Shapes include a variety of erotic body parts, including the amazing 3-D penis. Those who have mastered the technique can produce their own adult objets d'art, but the book's simple, step-by-step instructions help even the creatively challenged to transform a drab piece of paper into a saucy surprise.
Customer Reviews:
great, erotic, but not that easy.......2007-08-24
I am a complete & total beginner at origami, I found many of these hard or impossible to make.
I also bought 'Naughty Origami' which generally has easier figures - I was able to make almost all of them after a couple of tries each, after doing them I was able to make a few of the figures from Pornogami.
The figures in this book are generally more 'interesting'.
The origami were very well received by men and women alike at an adults only party.
Too funny.......2007-03-09
I bought 5 of these to give a birthday gifts. Everyone has loved them.
Fun for grown ups .......2006-01-25
I gave it as a xmas gift and it made a few jaws drop and brought on lots of laughter . A+
Not a fancy napkin.......2004-09-03
I found this book while taking care of other details at work and found myself highly amused and extremely fascinated by the details that went into this particular art.
One has to have a bit of a sense of humour regarding a few of the things created in this book and some patience when attempting to make them.
I found that the directions were not that clear nor concise but the photographs/pictures were helpful when trying to figure out what the next step might be.
Also make sure to use a piece of paper that has some weight to it; even if you do not have any origami paper when you attempt some of the projects.
A hilarious book and project to bring out at parties!
