The Allocation of Limited Entrepreneurial Attention
Sharon Gifford Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0792383397 |
Book Description
The Allocation of Limited Entrepreneurial Attention examines the implications of allocating limited entrepreneurial attention among activities or projects. This book maintains that attention is simultaneously limited in that a decision maker can pay attention to only one thing at a time, and entrepreneurial in that it may be allocated to evaluating a potential new project for possible adoption. However, since the outcome of the allocation of attention is not certain, the number of projects among which attention can be allocated is stochastic and the maximum number of projects is endogenously determined by the optimal allocation of limited entrepreneurial attention and describes the implications of this analysis for a number of economic problems.

Ecological Genetics: Design, Analysis and Application
Paul Ashton , Stephen E. Harris , and Andrew Lowe Manufacturer: Blackwell Publishing Limited ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 1405100338 |
Book Description
The use of molecular markers has revolutionized ecological genetics in the last 20 years. The fundamental problem facing new researchers is which of the many markers should be used and how the resulting data should then be analyzed. Until now, these guidelines have been hidden away in specialist journals. Ecological Genetics addresses this fundamental problem in clear, accessible language, suitable for upper-level undergraduates through to research-level professionals. The major topics in Ecological Genetics are treated within separate chapters, including:genetic diversity of populations and speciesgene flowphylogeography, andspeciationWithin each chapter the potentially suitable molecular markers are described and the resulting data from each type of marker are discussed, including the underlying concepts of the various modes of analysis. These are illustrated with examples from both the plant and animal kingdoms.Researchers embarking on molecular approaches to ecological genetics (for instance, final-year undergraduates and new postgraduates) will find the book essential, and more experienced researchers will also find it of interest.

Book Description
Steve Tolleson's approach to design might best be described as scientific: it involves relentless research in which every element of a projectdown to its letterformsis subject to rigorous study through almost imperceptible permutations. The end results of this process are designs that are meticulously executed, sometimes cerebral, but never without emotion and wit. ?Customer Reviews:

Beauty in Imperfection.......2002-07-22
Sagmeister's, "Made you look" was studied in wonder over a 10 hour session immediately after opening the package. I had never heard of him and i was quickly converted into a believer, all other scheduled items became secondary. Long lines of sans serif tiny type are the only thing that stopped this book from having an impact of similar strength.
An unrelated note, within one week, the binding cracked.
One research misjudgement on my part was to assume the book was published very recently and included their newest projects (see tolleson.com) It was published in 2000 of course, some projects have glimmers of past trends.
Nothing compares to the sheer visual firepower Tolleson blasts with both barrels. There is a beautiful logic flowing with every peice and you feel drawn into the scientific precision of the studio's creative process.
A printer's eye glass would be a fun attachment to assist in reading this book, which despite it's flaws is a proud part of my collection.
What's the point of this size?.......2002-04-19

Customer Capitalism : A New Business Model of Increasing Returns in New Market Spaces

Valuable addition to the Customer Equity concept space.......2002-11-26
Sandra's book would make you get out of your company, act and think like the customers who buy your products or service, and make you discover the "value gaps" in your offerings.
A great example her book left me with is the idea of "smart cars": European customers who are buying cars are buying short-haul mobility, and the car sellers are in that "activity space". So you got to think about financing, of insurance, of helping with the servicing.
If a firm fails to provide these product/service pieces surrounding the activity space, the customer will perceive that value gap, and beware if your competitor thought about that before you!

No More Bashing: Building a New Japan-United States Economic Relationship
C. Fred Bergsten , Takatoshi Ito , and Marcus Noland Manufacturer: Peterson Institute ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items: ASIN: 0881322865 |
Book Description
After a decade of sub-par performance, the Japanese economy remains in the doldrums. Now, after a decade of extraordinarily strong performance, the United States economy is slowing. The ability of the world's two largest economies to reestablish strong growth is of critical importance to themselves and to the world as a whole. Trade frictions between the United States and Japan have remained muted in recent years but the deteriorating economic situation in the United States will lead to renewed attention to trade issues. Japan will feature prominently. The bilateral trade agenda is increasingly moving beyond the traditional border impediment issues toward the more politically sensitive issues of internal regulation and deregulation. In the past, security concerns have mitigated trade tensions but the end of the Cold War has undercut a primary justification for the United States-Japan security alliance, in turn requiring a rebalancing of economic, diplomatic, and security priorities.
This volume analyzes the United States and Japanese economies; their trade and financial relationships; and their roles in the provision of international public goods such as development assistance, environmental protection, and international security. It argues that the United States ought to deemphasize its Japan-specific policies and its traditional focus on trade, and instead address its Japan-related concerns primarily through multilateral mechanisms with a focus on monetary and macroeconomic issues. The authors also recommend ways that the United States and Japan can cooperate to strengthen the global system in several areas of common interest.
