Book Description
With growing concern about the oceans and the resources of this realm has come a proliferation of international and national efforts aimed at protecting this environment. This volume constitutes the initial effort to reflect on the outcomes associated with the third Law of the Sea Conference and to assess how the reforms and changes brought on by this conference have performed.
The establishment of 200-mile Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ’s) constitutes one of the most far-reaching distributional and institutional changes in the history of the world. They brought over 20 % of the world’s oceans, a substantial proportion of its productivity, and 90 to 95 % of world fisheries under the national jurisdiction of coastal states. At this time, 145 states have ratified the Law of the Sea Convention and most have established EEZs. Some have established only a legal framework, while other countries have elaborated EEZ regimes. This volume focuses on the specific nature of the EEZ and the construction and evolution of institutions stemming from its introduction, specifically examining developments at local, national and international levels.
The analytical core of the volume focuses on the development of institutional arrangements for the management of living marine resources, occurring at different levels of social organization, that have developed from the introduction of the EEZs. The chapters cover case studies from both the north and south, in the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. The case studies critically examine the impact of the EEZ regime on institutions at local, national, regional and international levels of social organization. The broad range of contributions by the authors highlights the diversity of institutions and outcomes that have emerged from the implementation of the EEZs, providing a rich opportunity for comparative analysis. By doing so, we seek to address three broad questions:
-What is the nature of the institutions that coastal states have created within the framework provided by the EEZs?
-How has the creation of the EEZs affected the vertical interplay among institutions at different levels of social organisation (i.e., international, national, traditional and co-management regimes) and the horizontal interplay among institutions focused on different functional arenas (i.e., trade, environment and fisheries)?
-How has the development of EEZ-based regimes affected the fit of marine resource management institutions with biophysical systems?

The Deposit Modeling Program was founded by UNESCO-IUGS with the major aim to disseminate knowledge from scientists in more developed countries to their counterparts from less developed ones. A fringe benefit of this effort was the compilation of information on existing models and promotion of topical workshops in developing countries. This book is the result of one such workshop that took place in Delhi and Udaipur, India, in December 2001. Sediment-hosted Lead-Zinc Sulphide Deposits compiles the work of renowned economic geologists from three continents. The authors highlight the recent advances in the understanding of the temporal and tectono-stratigraphic distribution of sediment-hosted Pb-Zn sulphide ores and processes governing their genesis. The first section comprises five chapters covering some of the most important deposits of this class in Australia and Canada in detail, emphasizing their genetic models. It also includes a paper on the "geoenvironmental model," which concerns behavior before mining and resulting from mining, processing, and smelting. The second section discusses the mineralized terranes in the state of Rajasthan, northwest India, which host three major sulphide deposits. This reference is packed with color and black and white photographs, illustrations, charts, and graphs, making it a valuable, up-to-date resource for any geologist or geotechnical scientist studying major mineral deposits.

Pig dissection.......2007-05-22
this book was useful in that it was very detailed, although i think for a more basic biology vertebrate class it was a little too extensive in the terms and parts of the pig. some of the pictures were hard to follow to find where the body parts were, especially in terms of the circulatory system. however, it had a great comparative anatomy of humans and cats, and fetal pigs.

This well written and easy to read book details minimum impact techniques for a wide variety of environments. Any outdoor person (front country or backcountry, veteran or neophyte) can do a better job when enjoying wildlands- this book will show you not only "how," but more importantly, "why."
Wanna learn where to hike? or how to dig a cat hole? or the best place to camp without establishing a new site? Just what the heck should I do with those slimy food orts at the bottom of my cookpot near the top of some peak? Take a read of Soft Paths and you'll find out.

I tried for years to work with tarot decks and just found them to be cold and impersonal. A friend reccomended these and they've been not only easy to work with but very relevant to my life. I would highly reccomend these to anyone.

I love this set, I kept my cards a secret to myself for the first few weeks I had them, but the identification of the reading and the situtaion I was questioning was eerie - so I asked various people who visited if they would not mind having a "Go" with the cards, well now my friends, family and acquaintences beleive I am a Shaman Sacred Card reader, this may be so but I believe it is the book and card set that are the true hero, as long as the person giving the reading has respect for the essense of the set the truth will Out. A teriffic gift to give someone interested in the subject of Native American Wisdom, it is so much fun to see a friends face change into the "Oh my god how did you know that" look. All readings are positive (I don't mean polite I mean give positive guidance for good news or bad) but one would have to be dim not to understand the significance of every card reading. If I can make sense of the set anybody can - The cards are Beautiful and the book print size is big enough for my bad eyesight, for late night reading with a bedside lamp.

I have used the medicine cards myself and found the results of the spreads to be helpful and right on target. But I have also used them in another way. They worked very well in a group therapy session on a rehab unit where we passed around the easier cards, such as self esteem and boundaries, etc. and got the patients talking about how such topics affected their lives. They enjoyed the discussion as it was a totally different approach and were still talking about it several weeks later.

I got Goldfinger's human anatomy book, but in comparison, this is even better. Great multitude of drawings and diagrams of different species of animals, from bones to muscle to final skin with great angles. Highly recommend it.
And many of the reviews here were very helpful.
One of the most exhaustive references for artist's animal anatomy.......2006-05-21
WHOA! An animal-anatomy-for-artists book that I haven't seen before!?? I did a doubletake in the library when I found it. It's a GOOD one, too! Better than most of my animal anatomy books put together! It takes both possible approaches: the first half of the book shows the different bones and muscles part by part, as they exist in most animals, like Bammes's book does; the second half of the book shows the different animal species, bones and muscles and skin, like Adams & Singer's book does. I can tell which steel engravings some of these illustrations were based on, after Ellenberger & Baum. It also has a few species I haven't seen in animal anatomy books before, except maybe in the Zoo Books series, such as the giraffe shown on the cover. As usual, the most attention is given to horses, big cats, and dogs. I'm probably going to need to buy this for reference, since it's not the kind of thing you can just read cover-to-cover from the library, you have to use it just whenever you need it.

This is a very detailed book and a must have for those that need to know more about animal anatomy. This book does layout the skeletal and muscular design of the used animals very well. One thing that it does not give you is a detailed description of exactly how the joints move or muscles work. But overall a must have if you are doing an animal study for sculpture or 3-d modeling.
