Book Description
In the first part of this book, we treat interacting and small open economies. We do this from an historical perspective, starting from the Classical model of the gold standard and the specie-flow mechanism and aim to show there that the Dornbusch IS-LM-PC approach, with or without rational expectations, can still be considered as a (if not the) core contribution to contemporaneous open economy macrodynamics, also on the level of structural macroeconometric model building. In the second part we then extend this analysis to the incorporation of more disequilibrium on the real markets, prominent further feedback channels of the macrodynamic literature and integrated macromodel building. We start from the closed economy, consider large open economies in a fixed exchange rate system, small open economies subject to high capital mobility, and finally two large interacting economies like the USA and Euroland. Our macrofounded approach extends and integrates non-market clearing traditions to macrodynamics and can be usefully compared with the New Keynesian approaches which are generally rigorously microfounded, but often much more limited in scope in capturing full market and agent interactions.

Key to a Treasure Chest of Leadership.......2002-05-13
While change has become ubiquitous, leading change places an organization in a stronger competitive position. Leaders are supposed to lead change, but many don't know how. This book will give them some insight to do a better job at building individual and organizational capacity for the evolving nature of change.
The book is organized into four sections: Nature and Response to Change, Building the Capacity to Spring Back and Survive, Organizational Components, and Time to Change. A bibliography and appendices add to the value of this little volume. A number of charts are provided for the reader to complete to organize the leadership process and follow through.
During the first two chapters, the reader gains a good knowledge of what change is all about, including natural human responses to change. As Bennett launches into his explanation, he tells us about his grandmother and about Maggie, a sort of girl-next-door near grandmother's place. Maggie is a manager coping with change in her organization and Granny . . . well, she's a grandmother filled with wisdom. These characters are used to teach and to offer case studies, adding a smoothness to what might otherwise be just another difficult-to-read leadership book.
Interacting as a consultant (Bennett is a Certified Management Consultant), the author coaches Maggie on how to work with her colleagues who relate to change in different ways. This process makes the book comfortably instructive.
In the second section of the book, the focus is on resilience, a concept not often found in books on change. We're all "hit" by change, but the key to good leadership and success is how we bounce back from the impacts of change or adversity. A major key is to avoid extinction (hear the dinosaur?) by being flexible and adaptable. Bennett warns that we are all potential dinosaurs; due diligence is in order!
The balance of the book is filled with information and ideas that will reinforce what you know and provoke some creative thinking. The Herrmann Brain Dominance concepts are interwoven to add a different dimension to the leadership-oriented content.
Graphs and charts are thrown in to help the reader grasp the knowledge graphically . . . and to have lots of forms to complete to manage your leadership of change.
Then I got my surprise. I was just about finished with the book, thinking it was a good leadership book. There are so many out there. Then, on page 85 I hit "Bibliography and Resources." I almost flipped by it until I realized what a tremendous treasure John Bennett has given us! Over four pages of listings that reads like the List of Recommended Readings for several graduate courses. What a rich resource! I couldn't resist. I counted. 65.
This is a book that will really open your learning about leading change. It's the key to a treasure chest.

If I could sum up in one word what this book has given me, that word would be WISDOM! More specifically, LEADING THE EDGE OF CHANGE has given me a deep understanding of how and why people react to change in different ways. It also taught me how I could (and should) choose people of differing change tolerances for project teams. People with different change tolerances will complement one another, as well as balance one another, during the process of managing initiatives for higher productivity and, therefore, for higher profits.
Without a doubt, LEADING THE EDGE OF CHANGE has enhanced my ability to work with other people for our common goals. For that reason, I will reread it regularly, and I will always keep it among my most-used reference materials!

this book showed my husband why I had equal strength to him. however when I was studing in az. in the late 6o's I was taught that there were 360 main contact points for the nerve contacts and I do understand why a lot of them were not explained in the book. They need to only be taught to the student that has a complete working knowledge and has already completed years of instruction.

This is a fine book for basic Triumph history. I think the best feature are the excellent photos. This book is certainly worth the price.

The history on each bike discribed in the book is quite informative. The bikes we were specifically interested in are the Bonnevilles and there is no shortage of great pictures and descriptions. There are some great examples of restorations that go beyond showroom quality. We are especially fond of the 1977 Silver Jubilee edition.

Excellent Meriden Triumph Reference.......2001-07-04
I bought this book some years ago when I was considering restoring a classic Triumph. The book really starts with the 1937 Edward Turner designs, so if you are the lucky owner of one of the very early Coventry or Val Page designs, this book is not what you need. But for the other 99 percent of Triumph restorers, it's a good choice. Many period photos from the 1950s through 1970s. The book was written in 1981, so memories were still fresh regarding then-recent Triumphs. The book has 12 chapters: Early twins, Start of the Line, Military, Postwar Pre-Unit, Grand Prix, Unit Construction, After Meriden, The Trident, The Scooter Twin, The OHC Twin, Competition, and Specials. The real value for many restorers will come in the seven (!) appendixes: Specifications, Colours, Engine/Frame Numbers, Model Recognition, Production Flow Chart, Carburettor Settings, and Prices. The Specifications appendix includes roughly 75 specs per model for the 1960s-1970s twins. Colours cover all twins/triples from 1937 as far as I can see. If you like Triumphs, this is a good book; only a shop manual gives more information IMHO. Published by Osprey Press, London, 192 pages in total, ISBN 0-85045-403-4. Only drawback to the book is no index. As for myself, I wound up buying a Hinckley Triumph Tiger, more modern but a great bike!

Pretty picture as in all DK books but gives an entire overview of all acrylic paining in 72 pages. A lot of simple paragraph definitions of techniques but nothing of any direction or use for a begining painter. A great picture book for a child.

Good Book, Not Great Book.......2007-07-03
Considering that I have yet to find a complete compedium of Acrylic techniques, this is probably one of the better books out there, especially for beginners. This book will give you the short and skinny on your tools, paint and mediums, and canvases/surfaces. After that, the book starts giving examples on how to tranfer your image onto the canvas with pencil prior to painting, using opaque methods to painting, transparent(watercolor style) methods, drybrushing, scumbling, and more. Then at the end of the book, it contains a series of gallry examples in acrylic to inspire. This book is a good foundation book, and gives many approaches to using acrylic.
Indispensable for the Beginner.......2006-08-16
When I decided that I wanted to start painting, I bought five "How To" books. This one is my favorite, hands down. The book is well organized, well written, and contains a lot of beautifully detailed photographs. The author has kept the text to a minimum, letting the photographs do much of the talking, which works far better for me than other books that have more emphasis on written instruction.
In only 72 pages, every topic is covered, and no question is left unanswered. It begins with a brief history of the medium, then moves on to cover color, paint types, brushes, painting surfaces, tools, and techniques, as well as galleries of different painting styles. There's even a section on experimental approaches, such as stenciling and inventive scraping. Rather than presenting a series of exercises (as many books do), this author encourages experimentation and discovering your own personal style, an approach that really inspired me to pick up a brush and get started.
Also worth mentioning is that every photograph and illustration is in color . . . really GOOD color. This may sound like a no-brainer, but a few of the other books I purchased contained a lot of black-and-white photos. Hey, you can't learn to paint in black and white!
Experienced artists may find the material here a bit too rudimentary, but for the true novice, like myself, this book is a winner. If you're looking for that ONE book to get you started, this is it!
