Book Description
Two important new developments have occurred that have significant impact on the evolution of econometrics, namely, the end of the Cold War and the emergence of the information revolution in nearly all economies of the world.
The information revolution has had significant effect on data flows, making them much more timely, accessible, and descriptive of more parts of the economy. At the same time, it has changed the industrial structure of many economies, giving rise to increasing importance of the tertiary sectors (e.g. services). The new generation of hardware and software enables econometricians to handle larger and more complex problems, especially those that are data intensive and computer intrusive.
These major events require reconsideration and redrafting of some of the materials of the original edition.
The present volume retains the original structure of "Lectures on Microeconomic Theory" and takes up principles of constructing dynamic macroeconometric models and their use in economic analyses and forecasting, while introducing many updates, revisions and extensions. The description of the econometric methodology has been limited to specific applications of time series analysis, and the title has been changed to "Principles of Macroeconometric Modeling".
The first four chapters discuss the principles of specifying equations of structural macromodels, covering both developed marked economies, transition economies and world-wide models. The remaining chapters cover some major issues in the use of macromodels. The point of departure is model simulation, especially of the prevailing non-linear models, which is followed by model validation. The analysis of model dynamics covers economic fluctuations and the relevant implications of non-stationarity. The use of macromodels in policy analysis is presented next; it includes multiplier analysis and scenario simulations. The monograph ends up with forecasting being a special case of simulation analysis.

Book Description
Arthropods are the most numerous and diverse group of animals and studying these organisms requires the use of specialized equipment and specific procedures. This
text describes effective methods and equipment for collecting, identifying, rearing, examining, and preserving insects and mites, and for storing and caring for specimens in collections. It also provides instructions for the construction of many kinds of collecting equipment, traps, rearing cages, and storage units, as well as updated and illustrated keys for identification of the classes of arthropods and the orders of insects. Such information not only aids hobbyists and professionals in preparing insect collections, but it has become essential in documenting and standardizing collections of entomological evidence in forensic as well as pest management sciences.
* Over 400 professionally drawn illustrations
* Identification keys to find arthropod orders
* Comprehensive reading list
* Detailed glossary of terms

There are plenty of ways to entice bears to come your way: if you rub yourself down with peanut butter, wander through remote cranberry bogs, and slosh across busy salmon streams, you'll be sure to draw one or two curious bruins. If you live in bear country, however, you need not go to such extraordinary efforts to invite ursine company. All you have to do is leave your pet's food (or your pet) outside at night, make a habit of barbecuing on windy days, and keep the gate to your pasture or your front yard unlocked, and the bears will come a-calling.
Gary Brown, former chief ranger at Yellowstone National Park, knows bears and their behavior better than just about any writer alive. His compendium of ways to "outwit" bears offers handy recipes for how to behave if, in fact, you don't want to open your home to bearish visitors--and, for that matter, how to behave if you encounter a bear in the wild. (Don't run, Brown urges: you'll only make yourself a more attractive target to any sporting bear, which in any event can cover twice as much ground as you can in the same time.) Brown provides strategies for securing food and garbage to help make your dwelling bear-proof and effective ways to convince bears to go elsewhere if such bear-proofing efforts come up short--such as installing motion-sensor lights around the house and equipping your loved ones with portable air horns and "bear spray."
If you live in or near bear habitat, you'll find this book highly useful--and perhaps even a lifesaver. --Gregory McNamee
Book Description
An essential book for anyone who camps or travels in bear country; or who has a home in areas where bears live or visit.

Book Description
Masterpieces you can read over and over is how the Washington Post reviewed MacQuarrie's engaging, timeless stories of the misadventures of the Old Duck Hunters Association. Here are 53 classic hunting and fishing stories, some from sporting magazines of the 1930s and 1940s, including unpublished works from the author's literary estate. Available in individual volumes or collected in a slip-cased three-volume set, here is a legacy to today's sportsman from one of America's finest outdoor writers.
Customer Reviews:
A collection of absolutely wonderful tales..........2007-03-28
The terms "author" or "writer" do not apply to Mr. MacQuarrie. He is an artist. Reading "Stories of the Old Duck Hunters" will first transport you to your favorite duck blind, with the early morning sun glowing through the morning mist, the winter chill misting your breath and numbing your fingers. Then you will find yourself in the middle of the old Brule river, the cold water swirling around your waders as you try to tease a crafty Brown from behind a rock with a worn no-name brown fly.
MacQuarrie's wonderful story telling will cause you to laugh with joy, sigh with nostalgia, tense with apprehension, and bring the occassional tear to your eye. I found myself many times gazing of into space as I reflected upon my own experiences, the book momentarily forgotten in my hands as MacQuarrie once again made some connection to my thoughts and feelings. If you love the outdoors, and especially if your idea of a perfect day involves the frigid, wet, muddy, foggy self-torture device known as a duck blind, you must read this book.
The Best!.......2006-08-27
Just reread this old favorite of mine. His characters are masterpieces of excellent writing and his storytelling is an art. May GM's works live forever!
I told my wife, if I'm ever in a coma...........2000-06-08
I told my wife that if I am ever in a coma clinging to life, she should play these tapes. I can't say enough about MacQuarrie and his story telling ability. No one can describe better the experience of huddling in a pre dawn duckblind as wings whistle overhead in the darkness. Nor what it's like to feel the sure pluck of a brown trout at your fly during a spring rain. You will feel the glow of the woodstove and relish the ache in your arms that comes from rowing your boat back to the cedar cabin on a North Wisconsin lake. MacQuarrie's literary voice, the subject, and characters of his stories make my heart ache for a time that I was born too late to experience. Buy this trilogy. If you are a hunter or fisherman you will never regret it. If you aren't but take time to listen to these stories, you might find yourself looking at old shotguns, bamboo flyrods, and bluebill decoys in a different light. You might even find yourself in sleeting rain on a North Lake someday as wings whistle overhead.
Stories of The Ols Duck Hunters and Other Drivel.......2000-05-28
Collection of short stories dealing about hunting, fishing and life. MacQuarrie was one of our finest outdoor writers and had a way to put how many outdoorsmen really feel into words. A must read if you have any interest in the outdoor lifestyle.
The Stories of MacQuarrie.......2000-05-08
This is for anyone who is ever thinking about buying a book with stories by MacQuarrie in it. Buy it and don't look back. MacQuarrie wasn't an advertiser like so many things are today. He wrote about everyday people and their love of the out doors. You must be careful though because after you read MacQuarrie it will be hard to find someone to out do him. I never heard of him before I found a book that Zack Taylor compiled with the stories of MacQuarrie flyfishing. Buy anything you can find by him and you won't be sorry. Enjoy MacQuarrie in your private times when you need things to be enjoyable and he'll never let you down.

Customer Reviews:
Help for Authors.......2007-09-13
"The Novel Writer's Toolkit" covers many areas of the writing profession with some aspects of foresightedness as to the publishing industry. Basically, a book for beginners with firm instructions on character development, plot construction, staying on task Mr. Mayer sticks to the fundamentals without floating off into abstraction, which may or may not apply. He is a craftsman and he doesn't try to overwhelm the reader with flights into retrospection.
Chapter 10 -- Your Future is a hard look at the industry as it evolves in the 21st century. Books, distribution, format, every aspect of publishing is surveyed as to what a young author may encounter. We particularly enjoyed his forecast for POD publishing because an August issue of the American Library Associations' e-Newsletter had a picture of the machine he envisioned on page 219, in operation at a branch of the New York Public Library four years after "ToolKit" was published. He was right on target.
Nash Black, author of "Authors as a Small Business."
Somewhat Disappointing...........2006-10-17
I don't want this to be misconstrued as a knock on the author, because I think he's a great author and a great writer. I'm simply critiquing this particular book on what it's done for me...and that's not very much. This book works if you've never written anything in your life and know absolutely nothing about writing, otherwise it's a bit of a waste of time. It didn't offer me anything that I could learn from that I couldn't get from something else. If I have to read another book that goes on and on about how the first thing about writing is you have to write, you have to write a lot and you also have to read a lot. Forgive me, but I think most educated or even semi-intelligent people know that whatever your passion is, whatever you want to do in life, you have to do it. Most don't need to be told. You're already doing it because you love it, hence why you want to do it forever. We don't need to be talked down to like an idiot and that's the problem with some of these thespian overly educated writers, is that their snobs and they write in a way that is condescending. They are basically saying it's this way or forget it your wasting your time. They didn't invent writing. Writing has been around for centuries. This book strongly emphasizes how important it is to outline and that you'll be doing it for the rest of your life, but it doesn't give you clear and excellent examples of something so critical. Instead it gives you sample charts of time travel from his science fiction books. If I had to hear one more comparison about what this author did with his science fiction books I was going to throw the book out the window. I was really hoping for more actual writing tips on grammar and sentence structure, but no such luck. I do have a couple fantastic writing books that I loved and I found to be absolutely beneficial and they are.... "Bird by Bird" by Annie Lamott and "On Writing" by Stephen King. Both of those books were funny and witty, entertaining and packed with very informative and helpful tips for the writer in you. They are much more evolved writing books to check out and help you get better at doing what you love most.
Valuable Resource.......2006-09-27
I strongly recommend this book to any writer (published or unpublished). It is a practical, no-nonsense guide. It is organized in a logical, easy-to-follow manner without much "chatter" by the author.
As a side note though, this book can make writing seen like just business - which it is not for most writers. I would recommend complimenting this book with one that deals with the inner creative nature (like The Creative Fire by Clarissa Pinkola Estes). While the Toolkit focuses on creating a product to be sold (it's only negative point), The Creative Fire espouses creating because that is what the creative spirit within you longs for.
It might also be helpful to see what novels the author of the Toolkit has written. If you wish to write something with more soul and universal truth, don't try to limit your creativity to what will or will not sell.
We use this book at the Maui Writers Conference.......2005-07-12
Bob's book, The Novel Writers Toolkit, is a must for all writers. We use it as a teaching tool at the Maui Writers Retreat and Conference. Bob is an excellent teacher and knows his writing craft. He is also very dedicated to his students. We are fortunate to have a teacher at the Retreat who really cares about other writers and is willing to share his knowledge. He's also a very likeable fellow! Check out his book, I think you'll love it!
Shannon Tullius
Very helpful book for beginners, but too basic at times.......2005-03-29
As I was reaching about the halfway point in this book I began looking ahead to the review I would write for it and at that time was contemplating just three stars. The reason was that the information up to that point was often so elementary that it was almost not worth reading, i.e. advice about getting a word processor (duh) and some of the tips about writing basics. However, things really picked up from there and I found the second half of the book, which dealt with the subject of getting a book published, to be very helpful and enlightening, if rather discouraging. But as a previous commenter noted, the author doesn't hold any punches and makes no attempt to sugar coat the harsh world of publishing. Personally I'm thankful for his candid observations even if they do paint a bleak picture. If the entire book were as enlightening as the second half I would easily give it five stars, but because of the shortcomings of the first half I'm only willing to give it four. It's definitely worth your time to read this book though, so don't let this criticism deter you from taking a look for yourself.

Book Description
A practical, structured course for watercolour painters with some experience - continuing where the "Watercolour Landscape Course" left off. Illustrated with David Bellamy's evocative watercolours, the book follows a similar approach to the previous course and is divided into four main sections: the preparatory planning stages, with advice on choosing materials and working on location; guidelines on how to give your paintings more impact through imaginative composition, lighting and mood; more exciting watercolour techniques; and specific projects and exhibition work. Also included are a number of practical exercises, relating to paintings featured in a gallery at the end of the book, and several step-by-step demonstrations.

Bellamy the Master Watercolourest.......2007-01-19
This book, and the video that came out about the same time, are among the best watercolour publications that I have seen. I am an ardent fan of David Bellamy and heartily recommend this and any other of his books to all watercolour painters, whether expert or, like me, novice. They are full of information and ideas that can help make us all better painters. I have almost all his books and videos and never tire of looking at them and learning.
