Book Description
A billion-dollar paper manufacturer in Wisconsin works closely with a small stationery store halfway across the country to better ensure that the company's products will sell at the retail level.
* An Internet browser company distributes its products free to the masses, resulting in a market share of paying customers and a worldwide community of prospective buyers of services and products.
* An irate customer in Berkeley, California, places a $10,000 ad in the Wall Street Journal to protest what he considers shoddy treatment by a large coffee company-and ultimately receives 6,000 responses from other dissatisfied customers to his toll-free telephone number.
Love it, hate it, fear it, or wish it would just disappear, we are entering an era where one size no longer fits all-or even a few. We find ourselves in a highly personalized, customer-driven environment where now "one size fits one." The only business objective that makes any sense is a long-term relationship with each profitable customer.
Today's customers have vast power to collaborate with you to build your businesses, but if they're not happy, they will walk away faster than ever before-or actively undermine you. How can you win the unshakable loyalty and trust of these savvy customers?
One Size Fits One: Building Relationships One Customer and One Employee at a Time received critical acclaim from the business press and the endorsement of top CEOs by laying out the ten rules for what customers want-in their own blunt words-and showing how your company can begin to develop the personalized relationships necessary to build loyalty. This updated Second Edition places a much stronger emphasis on distributed leadership throughout an organization, which is needed to build enduring customer relationships.
It presents the organizational structure you need to support such a distributed leadership, thereby creating greater customer/employee relationships and a better, stronger company.
Certainly no company can deliver "one size fits one" value without loyal employees committed to creating exceptional value for each individual customer. One Size Fits One explains why yesterday's workplace mentality no longer works and shows how relationships inside organizations must change to successfully unleash the power of truly committed employees, using entertaining examples and anecdotes from real life.
In a world where "one size fits one," no one will have to settle for the ordinary, and any business that provides it will be unable to survive. One Size Fits One is a source of inspiration for all managers, providing a template for beginning the odyssey-one customer and one employee at a time.

With customers today having more choices than ever before, how you serve them could be the difference between keeping or losing those valuable customers and your business. One Size Fits One will transform you into a demanding consumer and passionate service provider to customers, associates, and employees."-Chip R. I received this book quickly and in perfect condition. However I realized after buying it that the price is high and it can be found cheaper than the $90 I bought it for. It has been essential to me in my biology class though so I'm glad to have it.

Decent.......2006-01-09
This book is not nearly as comprehensive or thorough as Campbell's Biology, but it does do an ok job with the explanations. The book has a lot of charts that do a good job of summarizing the material, which is a feature the earlier editions of Campbell's lack. Some of the illustrations are as good as Campbell's, but I have noticed some inaccuracies in a couple of the illustrations, even though I have the fourth edition. This is not so good for Intro Students who don't know the difference yet. It also places too much emphasis on Linnean terminology (class, phylum, genus, etc), and not enough on cladistics/phylogenetics (which biologists use preferentially now).
The study guide questions at the end of each chapter aren't very good. They swing wildly in scope, with one question asking minutiae not covered very well in the preceding chapter, the next asking about broad concepts, and some big take-home points missed entirely.
There's also not many practical differences between the 4th and 5th editions. If you have to get it, buy a 4th edition and save yourself a lot of cash. If you don't have to get it, buy Campbell's Biology (5th, 6th, or 7th edition is fine) instead.
Does not explain concepts well.......2003-06-26
I used this book for 2 semesters of introductory biology in college. After the first month, I became frustrated with the poor explanations. I asked a few friends and they recommended Biology by Campbell. What a lifesaver!
I also continued to used this book and also found a number of errors in the pictures. This cost me a few points on tests and quizzes, so this added to my low opinion of this book. I also became hesitant to trust what it was telling me, particularly when there were differences between Campbell and this book.
It has a nice layout, and it breaks topics into meaningful chunks; the explanations were okay most times and simply inadequate too frequently for me. On a scale of 1 to 10, this book is about a 3 or 4 and Campbell is a 9. But reading Campbell also takes more time and effort.

Book Description
Here is the story of three gifted women trained by the famed Louis Leakey. This book, "a sensitive and revealing contribution to the legend of a unique sisterhood" (Chicago Tribune), tells of three women who each gave her mature life to the love, study, and defense of another primate species.
Customer Reviews:
The Trimates another brilliant Sy Montgomery work.......2007-06-01
This is a tender, touching, love story of epic proportions. The love and feminine worship of the Trimates by the author, Sy Montgomery is apparent and the loves both human and primate of each woman is so masterfully told by Montgomery. We can't help but feel a kinship to the three wonderful women who are celebrated in this Leakey led sisterhood of Montgomery's biographical tale of primatologists Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Berute Galdikas. Not unlike her other works, Montgomery has allowed us to follow her...NO! This time, walk along side of her throughout her journey to tell the stories of these three women scientists who spent their lives in the service of Louis Leakey until his death in 1972, and the primates they each chose to bravely live among and almost change into their respective Animagus form. Montgomery has taken three biographies and woven them poetically together like the intertwining lives they each lead, without gossip, but of obvious sincere heroine worship.
A heart-touching experience........2002-11-26
An astonishing writer named Sy Montgomery thoughtfull wrote Walking With The Great Apes. Montgomery's captivating novel portrays three women who are fasinated about how primates live and care for one another. In a dire world of poaching and murder, these three scientists attempt to protect and preserve the world and nature of humanity's closest cousins. All together Walking With The Great Apes is a thought-provoking book and a must read for anyone interested in the Great Apes.
Excellent.......2000-06-02
A very well written book and a great introduction to those who want to know more about the lives and studies of these 3 extremely remarkable woman Jane Goodall, Birutas Galdikas and last but not least for me THE woman of the 20th century Dian Fossey.
Wow.......1999-04-22
Sy Montgoemry writes extremely well, and as a consequence, her book is compulsively readable. Not only that, but the subject matter is pure fascination, as she sheds light on each of these great apes, their extraordinary environments, and the daring women scientists who study them - their unique approach to science, their trials and tribulations. A great book.

Many have written lyrically about the wonders of golf in Scotland and its inherent magic, which is the focus of the second half of Michael Bamberger's lovely ode to the game. But it's the book's first half that makes it as essential as a putter for anyone willing to go deeper into golf's heart. Here, Bamberger explores the eternal mystery of golf: "More than any other athlete, the professional golfer looks normal; his physical ordinariness is a ubiquitous reminder of our limitations. So what makes him so special?" He searches for his answers the hard way: he lugs a golf bag around for a season as a caddie on the European tour. Even if the golfing grail he sought remains elusive, his narrative drives straight into the game's psyche through a colorful, witty, and poignant portrait of his months on the fairways with Peter Teravainen, the practicing Buddhist, Yale-graduate journeyman grinder whose bag he toted.
Book Description
ÂOne of the best golf-travel books ever written... The book reminds us that the game of golf has many treasures yet to be discovered. ÂMichael Murphy, author of Golf in the Kingdom
Published to universal acclaim a decade ago, To the Linksland is the story of Michael BambergerÂ's search for golfing nirvana in Europe, from the rough-and-tumble courses of the Continent to the hallowed fairways of Scotland. In 1991 Bamberger, a lifelong golfer whose game had stagnated, quit his sportswriting job and went to Europe with his wife in search of the true soul of golf. He first caddies for transplanted New Englander Peter Teravainen, whose odd behavior and erratic play gives Bamberger insight into the infinitesimal differences between a good player and a successful professional. After caddying in the Scottish Open, Bamberger remains behind to study the game in its homeland. While being mentored by an aged Scottish golf guru and playing on some of the worldÂ's oldest and most storied courses, Bamberger at last comes to understand the game at a deeper, intuitive level and begins to play the best golf of his life.
Featuring a new afterword in which the author returns to the courses he played, To the Linksland is a lively travel narrative that is also an homage to the history and legacies of the game, a triumphant journey to the very heart and soul of golf.
Customer Reviews:
A Book to Reread Often.......2007-02-06
Before he undertook the real world of work and marriage, Michael Bamberger embarked on his own golfing journey, first signing on as caddy for an idiosyncratic European Tour journeyman, then pursuing his own golfing muse in Scotland. In a relatively slim volume, Bamberger captures and conveys the feel of the European Tour and its personalities, from the literate caddy's point of view; and his own experience with a legendary teacher is no less than a love letter to the birthplace of golf. You will reread it often to remind yourself why golf is a wonderful game, like any love affair equal measures of rapture and despair. And you will make gifts of it to your friends, because Bamberger says it all as we wish we could.
Best Book I've Ever Read.......2006-04-23
The best book I've ever read -- not just the best golf book. If you're a hardcore golfer, this book will touch your soul and give you the chills -- and leave you burning to play more golf.
Shameful Job on Michelle Wie, Hamburger !.......2005-10-18
Go ESPN, Golfweek, Golfdigest, Golf Channel website and see for yourself what this slimy so-called reporter did to 16 years old kid.
A golf book for all readers.......2005-09-25
I am a woman and a beginning golfer, but I am married to someone who has played since he was ten. We just returned from a trip to Scotland. I took this book to read since I saw that it had chapters on several courses that my husband planned to play.
I was quite literally swept away by the beautiful writing, something I had not expected in such a book. I found myself reading passages aloud to my husband because I wanted to share Bamberger's insights. He touches on the psychological, and, dare I say, mystical underpinnings of golf. He yearns to find lessons for living a more fulfilling life through the search for excellence. I found myself rooting for Michael as he leaves his caddy job on the European tour to pursue his dream.
Who hasn't yearned to follow a dream? Bamberger does just that for seven months and he lets us tag along.
This is a book for anyone who aspires to improve, whether it be a golf swing or a craft. It uses golf to show us a way to approach life.
Highly recommended.
Light Read for the Golf Fan.......2005-08-26
This is a solid book for the hardcore golf reader. The author takes a leave of absence from his regular journalism job to "search for the primal heart of golf," combining the two common "golf road book" genera in one slim volume: (1) my life as a pro tour caddy; and (2) how I found religion playing the links courses of Scotland. Fortunately, Bamberger is an excellent writer and storyteller, and the pages fly by.

Book Description
Designed to address the issues of how to paint and what to paint, PAINTING AS A LANGUAGE covers a wide range of information of central importance to beginning and intermediate painting instruction. The authors emphasize the value of the student's cognitive understanding of the process and potential of painting in the student's overall progress in the studio. Blending journal writing with painting and drawing exercises, they guide the student through selecting meaningful subject matter as well as becoming adept at shaping and interpreting that material through the language of painting.
Customer Reviews:
This is what I have been looking for!.......2007-01-25
I have been looking for this type of concise information about oil painting. I have only been painting in oils for a little over a year. This is the missing link, the information that is skipped in oil painting classes (at least the one I took). I guess they think you already know the basics. Glazes, mediums, and much more are explained. This covers more than just the techniques in learning to paint, it teaches you to tap into your creativity. Lots of easy to understand exercises. I wish there were more color examples. I would like to see the entire book printed on better paper.
