I was interested in this books' title, mostly by how the author's would relate lean to the golfing world. Tapping/West did a very good job in presenting lean in a way that everyone can understand - as related to the game of golf. The story was a fun read. I did pick up a more basic understanding of why waste must be eliminated. I will be purchasing these for all my supervisors and managers. This book will allow all of us to communicate with the same language regarding lean and what it really means.

This book was a mystery to me when I first purchased it. I did not know what to expect. As I have read many of Tappings' workbooks previously and found them very useful and easy to understand. This was no different. The authors have an intriguing story of four golfers at a charity scramble,discussing the pros and cons of Lean - whilst applying the most basic concept to the game of golf. This books is entertaining, practical, and very informative. I loved the antecdotes throughout that related the broad concepts of Lean to the game of golf. This book should be mandatory reading for everyone on the Lean journey.

I did not really know what to expect when I purchased this book. I was intrigued by the title and also have found Tappings' books insightful and very practical. He did himself one better with this one. This book provided me with the perspective of Lean and continuous improvement that I had lost. The story flowed fairly well, the illustrations were excellent, and I kept reading because I enjoyed Jim Dandy's antecdotes throughout. Not to give it away, but 2/3 through the story "an answer" to the entire book is revealed. Well worth the purchase!

This book should be mandatory reading for anyone and everyone that desires to improve a business, process, or activity. The basic understanding of the evils of process variation, as in this book related to golf-stoke variation, gave me an new understanding of how to view (and improve)my business processes. I have read the classic books, Lean Thinking, The Goal, etc. and now truly understand the most basic and important premise of Lean. The answer is simply stated throughout the dialogue between Laura and John. Who Hollered Fore? did it for me!

This book is a very good overview of the kingdom Fungi. With an easy vocabulary usage, the authors were able to entertain the reader with very well done chapters. Although some of the topics could have been streesed a little deeper, the book is perfect for college students enrolled in classes such as introductory mycoloy and fungal systematics.

Pigott has authored various texts on the subject or gliding/soaring and I have found them all to be useful.

This particular one is throughly detailed and definative. Everything you could possibly wish to know about gliding is within and it makes a handy companion to Pigott's books aimed at the student pilot.

This book is simple to read and understand and the writing style is a pleasure to follow, which makes following it so much easier. It reads like a good novel and I found myself just wanting to read the next page for more and more information. The reader is left with a thorough understanding of how the gliders fly, the manoeuvres and good airmanship.

After gliding in the UK I now PPL it in the US. This book makes me want to be back at the Long Mynd!

If only Icarus had read this first.......2003-04-02

It would hardly be overstated to suggest that one's years of interest in the sport could be gauged by how many editions of the book one owned. An acclaimed pilot and instructor, Piggott presents both the fundamentals and the complexities of motorless flight in a manner that engages while instructing both the novice and the experienced glider pilot. Replete with excellent illustrations (I counted 120) that complement the clear concise text the work is comprehensive in its scope while organized in focused bite-sized chapters. It can be read cover to cover or by topic of interest with no loss in continuity. Compact but chock-full with a beautiful book cover to boot - an exceptional book, highly recommended.

When my fiancee and I first started planning our wedding, we heard about this book and purchased a copy because of its popularity and mention in magazines and elsewhere. While there is some good advice, it's not the must-have some people say and it's heavily tied into the web site too, which is just more of a time drain. I think much of the material could be condensed into fewer pages and more focused advice. You won't regret buying it, but nor will it make your planning much easier IMO.

Touched on it all. Definitely a How To with details. It answered many questions not just for one kind of bride but for brides of all kinds. I thought the least helpful were the personal accounts, more touchy feely than helpful. Their website is the best and this does supplement the website with more detail.

"The Knot: Complete Guide to Weddings in the Real World," written by Carley Rodney, the founder and editor-in-chief of www.theknot.com provides tons of information on weddings. There is information from the announcement of the engagement to the big day, from reception to the selection of honeymoon destinations. Other useful information includes the roles of the wedding party, wedding gown selection, vows and ceremony details, budget planning as well as dealing with the stress of planning for a wedding. There are inserts of real life stories that I find quite fascinating.

I think this is definitely a useful book to have for those who are planning for their weddings. It's extremely comprehensive as the author does an excellent job in covering the various aspects of wedding. There are always issues or things that were not thought of before but will be brought to attention in this book. "The Knot" is definitely a lot more "down-to-earth" compared to some of the other wedding planning books out there which are useful only if you are planning for a extravagant wedding. In addition, this book also comes with a wedding checklist as well as worksheets which would help couples with their planning. This is definitely a must have for couples!

A TOP-NOTCH, MUST-HAVE BOOK FOR WEDDING PLANNING!.......2001-10-06

I have had two daughters walk down the aisle and one left to go. The tips and information contained within this book will be a valuable help to anyone who is planning that all important day. The book is not just for the bride and her family, but for the groom as well. So often the groom sincerely wants to help, but a good number are uncertain of what their role is except to show up for the blessed event! This book will help steer everyone in the right direction.

The book takes you through each step of the planning process, from checklists, budgeting, location and photographers to troubleshooting in a variety of personal situations. What happens if your family does not exactly welcome your intended with open arms? Or, perhaps your family's religious beliefs are different than his, then what? I can recall one wedding that would have more aply been described as a three-ring circus. The mother of bride locked herself inside a bathroom and refused to come out because her "ex" showed up at the last minute to give his daughter away. The bride's sister (maid of honor) ran UP THE AISLE in tears when her former boyfriend, a friend of the groom's showed up with a new lady on his arm. At the reception, the master of ceremonies decided there would be a change of plans and a new method of determining who ate first, by having each guest bid for their dinners (starting at [amt.] per person) with the proceeds going to pay for the honeymoon! Needless to say, it was the fastest way to clear a room ever recorded in history. Most guests had already given a very generous gift to the couple, now they were expected to pay for the honeymoon? These are mistakes no bride or groom wants to make. This book is an excellent guide to making one of the most important days of your life, a day you will cherish for years to come. A truly useful guide!.......2001-07-31

This is the most realistic wedding planners that I have run across. I just got married 3 weeks ago and this book made the wedding planning process so much easier.

The advice on selecting vendors was practical and helpful. She also offers advice on relaxing during those tense weeks beforehand.

Some of the best features are on suggested photographer shots, realistic ways to budget and save money, and incorporating cultural traditions.

This guide should be the first on every brides list!

Missing something..........2007-10-09

Like all of Norris's books (that I know of, anyway), all works of art are reproduced by hand rather than as photos, so they should be taken with a grain of salt, as usual. He meticulously goes through the various pieces of liturgical garments.

On the other hand, having purchased the book to help me with a historical nun costume, I was disappointed to find almost nothing - just one picture and a few sentences that I could find.
