Red Zone Management is based on a football analogy for the last 20 yards that lead to a touchdown. This is make it or break it time for a team. According to the author, Dutch Holland, businesses are increasingly facing their own red zones. For a business what constitutes are red zone? It is activities that can lead to extraordinary profit or loss. These situations fall outside the scope of daily business management. Here is a list of red zone situations:

Changing competitive strategy

Mergers and acquisitions
Reengineering work processes
Implementing enterprise solutions (ERPs)
Implementing e-Business solutions
Changing culture

What are the types of behaviors that cause red zone initiatives to fail? Here is Holland's list:

Generally the interactions between insect pests, their host plants, and their natural enemies have been studied within a specific crop. However, agroecosystems are much more than fields in which we grow our crops. Non-crop elements in the landscape can have a substantial impact on the composition of insect communities in an agricultural setting. Investigations on the influence of habitat diversification on pest population dynamics have increased. Give this book to your kid..........2007-07-10

David Attenborough is a global treasure. This exceedingly well-written and edited book (not one typo) is a perfect way to introduce young people to a more mature analysis of the natural world. The prose is precise and clear, the topics wide-ranging and detailed, and all the while, you hear Attenborough's voice narrating in your head. There are also pictures! Plenty of pictures! Pictures of crystalline angler-fish, and enormous whale sharks, and penguins, guanays, deserts, forests, insects, the Sears Tower, etc. They serve as a visual feast to accompany the text.

A book like this cannot help but to instill knowledge and appreciation into the reader for the vast habitation we call Planet Earth.

This book reads just like a conversation and the photography is out of this world! I wish they would make some of the photos into poster form, they are so lovely. Of course, there are also the wierd looking animals and the ugly ones. All are so interesting. While you would think that it would be like reading a text-book, it is NOT! It's highly entertaining and immensely informative. I use mine as a coffee table book and I get so many comments on it!

Actually quite a good book.......2007-09-22

Mr. Hare has written a pretty good book, actually. The information on the camels, was quite interesting, though left me wanting to know more. This could be in part due to the wild Bactrians endangered status and the wildness and hostility of the terrain that they live in - it's not easy collecting data in that kind of environment.

Where Mr. Hare really shines though is his access to locales normally off-limits to foreigners (i.e. "Lop Nur" or "Lop Nor", the Chinese nuclear weapons testing ground) and insights given to historical events not commonly known to Westerners (i.e. Russian mass executions of Outer Mongolian peoples). This is scare information that shouldn't be so readily dismissed!

Now, if the author has left you begging for more information on the ancient ruins in the Taklamakan and Gobi deserts, here are two other books which you might like:

1. "The Tarim Mummies", by J. P. Mallory and Victor H. Mair. The Tarim Mummies: Ancient China and the Mystery of the Earliest Peoples from the West

2. "The Mummies of Urumchi", by Elizabeth Wayland Barber.The Mummies of Urumchi

They don't discuss much about Bactrian Camels, but they do speak of the climate, ecology and history of the area, as well as the migrations of many different peoples. They would both tie-in nicely with Mr. Hare's book.

All in all, a good read by Mr. Hare. Am hoping he'll write another with further information on the Bactrians, hopefully with good news on their status...

One for those with really esoteric interests.......2002-05-16

I thought I had some rather peculiar interests, but why on earth would anyone want to spend years trudging through the wastes of some of the owrst deserts on earth looking for wild camels? Worse still, the author didn't even see that many in all his years of travel!

That said, there are some true gems in this work. His description of the ruins of the ancient city of Lou Lan is intriguing, as is his description of other archeological sites. I was disappointed, though, that many of these fascinating places could have been dealt with in greater depth, and more photos could have been provided. In the end, I felt that the topic was very much "underdone."

There is little explanation of major issues surrounding this book, like the backgound events surrounding the creation of the Gashun Gobi nature reserve, or the means by which he was given permission to visit these areas. They just "miraculously" happened.

I bought it for the archeology and history, tolerated the camels, but felt a little cheated by a book which could have contained so much more.

A wonderful account of an exciting adventure.......2001-02-01

I strongly recommend this book to those with an interest in travel, nature conservation and the history of central Asia. John Hare gives a detailed and clear account of his expeditions into the Gobi and Gashun Gobi deserts in Mongolia and China in serach of the wild Bactrian camel. Combining history, science and keen observation, John Hare brings the desolate wilderness of Central Asia to life.

I purchased this book for my private collection. I know for a fact that these plays work. They were used by me and against me by my opponents. One of my opponents was the football coach that the author talks about in his book.

This book covers the passing, power running game, and the misdirection of the Double Wing Offense.
This book is easy to read and full of information that can be used from youth to high school level. It is a five star book.

However, I can not recommend this book until the price comes down under $20.00. Until then it gets one star.

The Toss.......2005-10-25

I have seen the offensive critizied but this is not fair. This book lives up to all that it is billed up to. I took a 4-6 team to a perfect 11-0 and a league title with this offence. If you want to really bye into this offence this book shows you, how.. Great book

Works at all Levels.......2002-05-21

Last year when I became a first year Head Coach of a 7-8 year old team I was looking for an offense that would be powerful, fun, and easy to learn. The first book I bought was this book and I stopped there. This book gives you everything you need to run the offense.

It is well written and easy to understand. The diagrams can be taken directly from the book and used as is without any quess work. The program I took over had only won 3 games in 6 years. Last year the team went 5-2-1 and outscored the other teams 103 to 51 (8 game season) and posted 3 shutouts.

This book worked for me and it will work for you!

I am extremely critical of football coaching books, because so many authors publish materials that are ineffective and clumsy. Even worse are the authors who have coached or played in the NFL, and then try to write a book on coaching youth or high school football. These books are invariably suitable only for lining the bottom of the cat box.

Coach Vallotton is different. For one thing, his system works, and works extremely well. The base offense uses four key plays, and a blocking rules system that is as simple as one could possibly make it. I know of two youth teams of six year olds running this system straight from the book and both are very successful.

But here's the best part: the high school I coach at has been using this system for five years, and has made the playoffs with a 78% winning percentage over those five years. Our blocking rules are the SAME as those used by the six year old teams above!

This offense offers clear mechanical advantages for every blocker at the point of attack, giving them each a double team, down blocking angle, or kickout block. The system does not rely on one on one blocks, so it is not required that your offensive linemen be the best athletes in the league to be successful.

My sole complaint about this book is the pictures and diagrams. The diagrams are very sloppily done. They are decipherable, but look very disjointed and unprofessional. The pictures are so dark and grainy that they might as well not even be present.

This is minor, however. The book is clearly written and will function as both an offensive playbook and a coaches' plan of implementation to help you get the offense installed. I recommend the book, and the Double Wing offense, to any youth or high school coach in America. I caution you, though. If you run this system, run it ALL. Don't try to add one or two of its plays to your existing offense. You need to buy into the system and install it right, paying close attention to details.

So you want to run the ball, or know how to stop it? This book is a must have for all coaches at every level. If you don't learn and understand the principles of The Toss, than you are destined to suffer the consequences. The author does not hold anything back. The Toss is the "Republic" of a run-first, deception based offense. You find yourself agreeing with the logic of each assertion. The material is in depth, yet easy to understand. I ran a scaled down version of this offense with a pee-wee football team, and found myself wishing the opposing players were smarter so that I could incorporate even more wrinkles. The philisophical approach allows you to run four plays or forty succesfully. Your team can easily absorb the suggested variations. The possibilities are limitless. The Toss covers everything from motion to personnel in builing your own offense. The Toss is to the Option attack what the West-Coast offense is to the vertical passsing game. Its safer, sharper, more effective, and more fun. Even if you don't run The Toss, you need to know its out there. Vallotton is a true football scholar if such a thing exists. P.S. Disregard this if you coach against me.

How does one teach comprehension? With the current obsession on phonics and code emphasis, I find QtA a refreshing read. Tried, tested and proven in classrooms, QtA is based on the idea that reading is about constructing meaning, more so than just breaking the code. To use this approach, the teacher has to really read the text well first, grasp its main ideas as intended by the author, and plan to guide the students to arrive at those ideas. She also has to anticipate the difficulties encountered by her students as they read the text, and consider the fallibility of the author in fleshing out his ideas. These elements make QtA a teaching approach different from the traditional ways of teaching comprehension. One can even combine it with other strategies, such as KWL.

QtA helps young readers become thinking readers. By posing queries before, during and after reading, the teacher guides her students to become independent, thoughtful readers who can make sense out of oftentimes poorly-written or hard-to-understand texts. This strategy appears applicable to all age-levels. The book is written in an easy to understand style and includes sample lessons.Questioning the Author is a MUST READ for all teachers and should be included in teacher preparation curriculums.

These designs may not always be emblematic of actual clothing in the 1920's, but they represent some of the most innovative, dramatic, and stylish stuff from the era, and remain inspirational to this day. The book features a few of his more ordinary designs, but also includes "Harper's Bazar" covers, theatrical designs, and some amazing haute couture. While there are no pictures of extant costumes, this book of illustrations, quite a few in color, is beautiful, stylish, and motivating.

With this book you get a glimpse into the master's mind at the birth of Art Deco and beyond. Erte's designs flourished in the mid-20's, when the Deco age was new, but you can still sense a taste for the noveau and baroque ages in his art and gorgeous designs. Erte was a pioneer artist untill his death and anyone seeking to learn true fashion design will benefit from the vision of Erte.
