This book is based on papers presented at the Second International Symposium on Bacterial and Bacteria-like Contaminants of Plant Tissue Cultures held at University College, Cork, Ireland in September 1996, with additional invited papers. Since the first symposium (published as
Acta Horticulturae 225, 1988), there have been considerable advances in both plant disease diagnostics and in the development of structured approaches to the management of disease and microbial contamination in micropropagation. These approaches have centered on attempts to separate, spatially, the problems of vertical disease transmission, via infected explants to progeny microplants, from laboratory contamination. Disease control is best achieved by establishing pathogen-free cultures, while laboratory contamination management is based on subsequent good working practice. Control of losses due to pathogens and microbial contamination
in vitro addresses, arguably, the most important causes of losses in the industry; nevertheless, losses at and post establishment can also be considerable due to poor quality micro-propagules. In this book, a holistic approach to pathogen and microbial contamination control is evident with the recognition that micropropagators must address pathogen and microbial contamination
in vitro, and diseases and microplant failure at establishment. There is increasing interest in establishing beneficial bacterial and mycorrhizal association with microplants
in vitro and
in vivo.
The contents are divided into sections. In each section there are papers that update contributions offered at the first symposium; for example, major advances have been made in microbial taxonomy and diagnostics based on advances in DNA-based techniques. Consolidation has occurred in therapy and laboratory contamination management. Novel, and arguably speculative,
in vitro contamination control based on autotrophic culture is described; and disease control at establishment using bacterial and mycorrhizal inoculants is discussed.

I have recommended this book to loads of my friends, and everyone was always enthusiastic about it.
No. 1: it's very interesting to read.
No. 2: it is very well researched and presents irrefutable facts of biology.
No. 3: the author believes in a Creator and challenges anyone to explain how these different facts could have been caused by evolution.
This is not "blind" faith, but rather a well thought out presentation of the Bible side of things.
If you are a Christian you will get a great blessing from reading this book, and if you are not but are willing to be challenged, read this book!

If you are someone who loves cross-country skiing for its quiet nordic step and glide through the woods, wearing woolen knickers and munching on granola, or if you are looking for a traditional introduction into the sport then this book is for you.
On the otherhand, if you are a ski skating racer in day glow spandex gulping power-gels and looking for the state-of-the-art technique and training advice then keep looking.
What a kick!.......1999-07-23
One of the things I love about cross-country skiing is its diversity. Another thing is the easy-going quality -- you just go and enjoy the hell out of it, whether you're skating or track skiing or telemarking or running around the backcountry yodeling. The thing I DON'T like is how many practitioners take it sooo seriously. Jules Older's book is a kick in the pants. He has the right priorities. Whether he's talking about equipment, clothing, technique, skiing with your old dog, even waxing (which attracts the real fanatics!), you feel he's about to giggle. and it's contagious! There's still plenty of useful information; but the context - including photos - makes it fun. If you'd like to learn about a great sport, hear some great stories, and laugh a lot in the process, I'd choose this over any other book! (And yeah, I used to be one of those fanatics; turns out it's more fun to learn and laugh at the same time.)

This book covers everything and more. However its language and order means it is not for the beginner but for someone already fluent and understanding of english grammar. I am a prospective english teacher and was looking forward to the assistance of this book. I think I will in time but will need to read other books first before i can get near to this level. Things are not explained simply but assume you already know the words he uses and the meanings behind them even as early as the first few pages.

As is evident from the book's title, this book is intended for practising and prospective teachers. Its simple structure enables the teacher to teach grammar lucidly and effectively. Every chapter features an analysis of common grammatical difficulties that students encounter when studying grammar. This advantage will help you identify the difficulties and accordingly reveal efficient ways to help students deal with troublesome points of grammar.
In the following, I will account for the chief characteristics of this book:

2. a thorough analysis of complex sentence structures,
3. the identification of typical grammatical difficulties,
4. its methodological and pedagogical structure,
5. its simple terminology,
6. it is comprehensive and lucid
7. it will help teacher to choose the most effective method to teach grammar.
The above-mentioned features should help you decide if this is the book you need! In my opinion, this is the only book you need to become a competent english teacher.

An 11 year olds view.......2004-06-30
This summer my parents decided my grammar needed "help". Therefore my father bought this book off of EBay for me. Even though I would rather be doing other things this summer, this book is extremely helpful yet boring. There are 6 parts to this book each of these parts explore different parts of the English language. One of the advantages to this book is that they list exercises after each section so you are able to practice what they teach.

This textbook is awesome. I helps you learn about all subjects in Grammar. It tells you how to write something gramatically correct. I gives you plenty of exercises to learn all of this and to study for the tests. I just think that this is the best English textbook in the history of textbooks.

Lots of photos but does not really give any specifics about what distinguishes that particular bags. I would like to see better details so I could use the book as a guide to determine counterfeits. There are better handbag books on the market.
Nice little book but nothing special........2005-04-13
This little book is only 64 pages long so don't expect too much information in it. Emma Bowd has provided quite a brief text to accompany each section and she doesn't go into any great detail. There are some nice photographs, but again, not a huge amount, certainly not enough to make you want to keep looking for long. This may be ok as a little stocking filler for a handbag mad friend but for anyone wanting serious information on handbags and/or gorgeous photo's, there are much better books available.
