What influence does business have on government? How much should government regulate and intervene with business? To evaluate the nexus of the two, Richard Lehne explores how government and business each rely on the effective performance of the other to meet their goals. Government depends on business to create jobs, generate revenue, promote innovation, and provide goods and services; business needs government to provide specific opportunities for firms and industries and to maintain conditions in which economic activity can flourish.

Encompassing and insightful read.......2002-01-08

This book isn't for the average reader, since it deals with rather heavy-handed material. That being said, this text was part of a graduate-level course I took on government. While only a few chapters were required reading, I found myself reading the entire thing. Lehne's insights into the historical background of our modern government and policiy as well as his integration of government and economics overseas makes this book unique. After reading it, I have developed a much more profound sense of why our institutions exist, what they do, what they are intended to accomplish, as well as what shortcomings of any governmental system need to be addressed in order to address the increasing globalization of our world. At the very least, this book will make you rethink the role of politics in American society.

This book was quite educational as to inform a fisherman to where to locate these limestone streams. He rates each stream on a scale of 5 to 10, let you know where to access each stream and give you what hatches to expect. While I gave this a 3 star, it could of been higher if he added some color photo. This was somewhat disappointing.

Wonderful !.......2002-07-31

This is a great book with wonderful stories about all kinds of animals and the special bonds between them and their people. My family and I are planning to get a Newf in the near future and this funny book with amusing stories about how these gentle dogs act has reinforced our desire to get this breed. This book made me laugh out loud on the bus, caused a tear to form at work (during lunch, of course) and reminded me of what life with a dog is like. If you love dogs of any kind, you'll be able to relate to this book.

I've got more experience casting flies to trout in the Rockies, and having moved to Texas, decided to read up on flyfishing for bass. I have read several of the books that are available, and I think this is probably the best one, at least if largemouths in still water are your most likely quarry.

Great as an addition to any curriculum.......2007-08-24

I am bilingual (Spanish and English) and wanted to add in French with my own children. Since I just partnered in working on Flip Flop French, I've been using that of course, and I so enjoyed using Ana Lomba's Play and Learn Spanish for my own students and classes, I got it in French.

I haven't been disappointed! After the children (three of them, ages 5 down to 2 years) completed lesson three, they were able to pick up quite a bit of this book and the interesting conversations that go along with the pictures in the book (it's full color!) My children really enjoy coloring and drawing, so after we do the Flip Flop French activity for the day, this is a great supplement and change for them. It's a little advanced for them without the other more simple lessons, but I think they'll continue to grow into it!

All in all, I love it!

Solid resource for useful phrases in French.......2007-07-26

I learned to speak French as an adult (and am still learning).

As a result, I have had very little exposure to 'children's French' - how to speak to a child and use phrases appropriate for them.

This is a fantastically reliable source for just that, and it is enjoyable to expand my own vocabulary along with my children's.

Fantastic to learn to talk to your child in French.......2007-07-01

As someone who had some very rusty high school French I have found this book and 60 minute CD invaluable in teaching my 1 year old son to understand and speak French. He even enjoys listening to the CD in the car while Mummy learns French as he recognises phrases and songs that we have begun to use. The book and CD show you how to conduct everyday conversations with your child in many situations such as getting dressed, eating, cleaning up, bath time, going to the park and playing games. In addition to the vocabulary there are lots of easy songs that you can learn and sing during those activities.

Bear's book is interesting: of some use, but obsolete.......1999-07-24

This book, evolving, it appears, from a dissertation, is wellwritten and moderately interestng as an intellectual excursion. Italso provides insights into the contempuous ways in which some companies treat complaining customers, the laws, regulations and recourses that are available to dissatisfied customers, and offers a few useful suggestions. However, the book must now be considered long in the tooth. There are more useful books out there, e.g. by Phillips. Also Bear and his spouse have a more recent book that is more likely to be useful to people who really want to complain. That complaints often wield powerful effects is certain.

One last piece of review and advice. Before entering into a course of customer, read lots of books about the topic(s).

Bedbug Letter.......1999-05-19

I chose this book because I was mad and I was not going to take it anymore so I decided to write a letter of complaint to the object of my "affection" (my employer). I thought this book would teach me how. I mean, part of the title reads "How to be a more effective complainer". Unfortunately, the book turned out to be endless in its compilation of data and statistics but falls far short on the very job it's supposed to do: it does not tell you exactly HOW to complain and the examples it gives are very few and far in between. The contents seem more like a boring executive report not expected to be read by anyone.

This book is incredible! It tells you what works and what doesn't, when and how to complain, be persistent, etc, all written quite humorously and with case studies.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Nicolas Jabko suggests, the character of European integration altered radically, from slow growth to what he terms a "quiet revolution." In this book he traces the political strategy that underlay the move from the Single Market of 1986 through the official creation of the European Union in 1992 to the coming of the euro in 1999. The official, shared language of the political forces behind this revolution was that of market reforms—yet, as Jabko notes, this was a very strange "market" revolution, one that saw the building of massive new public institutions designed to regulate economic activity, such as the Economic and Monetary Union, and deeper liberalization in economic areas unaffected by external pressure than in truly internationalized sectors of the European economy.

What held together this remarkably diverse reform movement? Precisely because "the market" wasn't a single standard, the agenda of market reforms gained the support of a vast and heterogenous coalition. The "market" was in fact a broad palette of ideas to which different actors could appeal under different circumstances. It variously stood for a constraint on government regulations, a norm by which economic activities were (or should be) governed, a space for the active pursuit of economic growth, an excuse to discipline government policies, and a beacon for new public powers and rule-making. In chapters on financial reform, the provision of collective services, regional development and social policy, and economic and monetary union, Jabko traces how a coalition of strange bedfellows mobilized a variety of market ideas to integrate Europe.

The Transnational Activities of Small and Medium-Sized Corporations contains a study of the role, impact and policy implications of small and medium-sized transnational corporations (TNC's) in the developed economies as well as in the developing countries. After a description of the theoretical framework the volume analyzes trends, patterns and salient features of small and medium-sized TNC's by emphasizing the problems in the transnationalization process and proposes measures and policy suggestions to promote foreign direct investment by small and medium-sized enterprises. The study is largely derived form a survey, conducted by the author, designed to obtain information about the characteristics and consequences of small and medium-sized transnational corporations activities compared with those of large TNC's and indigenous firms.
