Book Description
Most books on mergers and acquisitions focus on process management, human resource management, or the financial aspects of the deal. This book brings together the essential elements of each domain, including subjects that are often overlooked or treated only superficially by other texts. These subjects include post-merger integration, business alliances, deal structuring and strategies, financial modeling and simulation, assumptions-driven planning, and valuing intellectual property. This book is unique in that M&A activity is discussed as a series of interdependent activities and in the context in which each activity actually occurs. While intended for students in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, business strategy, industrial organization, and entrepreneurship courses at both the MBA and undergraduate level, this text has broad market appeal. The material has worked quite effectively in both executive development and training programs. The book also has substantial appeal for those who are hoping to become or who are actively pursuing careers as financial analsyts, chief financial officers, corporate treasurers, operating managers, investment bankers, business brokers, portfolio mangers, investors, as well as corporate development and strategic planning managers. Others likely to have an interest include bank lending officers, venture capitalists, business appraisers, actuaries, government regulators and policy makers, and entrepreneurs. The generous use of practical, timely, and diverse examples and contemporary (including e-commerce) business cases with solutions makes the text suitable for distance learning, self-study, as well as for large lecture focused courses. The book presumes only a basic knowledge of accounting and finance.

Clearly a Home Run!!!.......2006-03-18
This is one of those books that I wish I had written. As an experienced deal maker, I know what works and what doesn't. This book explains from a highly practical perspective the "art and science" of the deal. The author clearly has done his share of transactions in terms of his ability to capture the dynamic nature of the deal structuring and acquisition process. The author, as the chess master, goes through the development of alternative deal structures and strategies designed to consummate the deal. The process of offers and counter-offers is illustrated in a delightful and comprehensive case study at the end of the book.
The book is written with a fluid style that brings what for most are very difficult concepts to life in a readily understandable yet rigorous way. The author's nummerous insights are documented through references to recent academic and practitioner studies and illustrated by using recent case studies. I find the author's frequent use of brief studies of transactions to illustrate his current point very enlightening.
This book is far more than a reference or textbook; it is the reader's ticket to learning how to do deals and implement corporate restructuring activities. The book abounds with numerical and non-numerical examples to illustrate how to do things. The CD included with the text is easily worth the price of the book in that it provides numerous complex deal structuring and valuation M&A and LBO models. The CD also contains a wealth of other information including question lists for conducting due diligence and solutions to case study questions and problems contained in the text.
Yes, I wish I had written this book. But, then, those things are best left to those who can.
A Refreshing New Approach to Learning.......2006-01-01
Many business books take a pedantic, ponderous approach to what could easily be characterized as a challenging subject. However, I found the lively writing in this book to be very helpful to keeping my attention and to making difficult material more understandable. While the book is exhaustive, I found each chapter to be largely self contained. This text is clearly the most useful I have read on this subject. The CD included with the book contains models, presentations, chapter outlines, problem sets with answers, etc., all of which make this book the best available on the market.
Great Book and Great CD.......2005-12-22
This book is a one-stop shop for those interested in M&A. It covers all the relevant topics from how to develop a rigorous business plan appropriate to undertake an acquisition, to identifying and approaching target firms, to succesful negotiation, to planning and performing due dilgence, to planning and implementing successful integration, to financing the transaction. The book also addresses how to design effective takeover tactics and defenses. I was most impressed with the extent of the explanations about how to design and implement acquisition plans from a real world perspective. The author also addresses how to design effective takeover tactics and defenses. I also found the material on the M&A implications for governance very valuable.
The book is also very well documented. The extensive list of publications is very helpful for locating more articles and books on this exciting subject. I found the glossary of M&A terms among the most useful I've seen. It could be published as an M&A dictionary. The numerous case studies sprinkled throughtout the book are very helpful in demystifying the subject.
The CD included with the books contains a wealth of material often available on the internet for hundreds of dollars. The detailed M&A models and leveraged buyout models and due diligence question lists are available for customizing to meet your specific circumstances. I found the buyer due diligence question list in electronic form to be very valuable when it came time to making changes for my own needs The chapter outlines, study guides, and presentations also included on the CD are very helpful in internalizing the material. The CD also contains ansewrs to many case study questions and chapter questions.
All things considered, this book is a must have for anyone serious about learning the subject.
Highly Student Friendly.......2005-11-25
I am currently using this book in an M&A class and have found it to be an excellent business book. The book is exceptionally well organized, intuitive, and well-written. The book's use of bold type, self-explanatory headings facilitates the overall organization of the material, finding subject matter, and understanding key points the author is trying to make. The book is rich in examples, something that is often lacking in many books. The case studies for the most part of current, instructive, and insightful. The book is full of helpful insights and practical advice.
The CD -rom included with the book contains a lot of very useful stuff including powerpoint slides for each chapter, study guides for each chapter including chapter outlines and sample test questions and anwers, as well as anwers to many of the case study questions and problems in the book. The merger, acquisition, leveraged buyout and real option software illustrates how the pros analyze and value businesses. There are no secrets as you are able to access the underlying excel instructions to see how the models tick and to change them to suit your needs.
Overall, I would give this book an A+ for insightfulness, openess, practicality, readability, and organization.
Superb!!!.......2005-11-16
As you can see, I am very impressed with this book. It is by far the best book I have read on the subject in terms of thoughtfulness, organization, documentation, and practicality. It is full of well explained examples that make would could be a daunting subject understandable. The book comes with a CD that is full of M&A and LBO valuation software and excel spreadsheets, as well as a lot of other good stuff including powerpoint presentations highlighting lecture notes, student study guides, and answers to practice problems. All things considered, I would give this book a resounding thumbs up for those wanting to use in in their personal libraries, professions, or in the class room.

Book Description
While many people in business have strong analytic skills creativity has been undervalued in many organizations. The authors draw attention to creative thinking and action and how this can be used to solve business problems and improve performance. They show how some companies have achieved success as a result of creativity and provide a step by step guide for companies and individuals to become more creative. The book also contains numerous scenarios that encourage the reader to solve problems imaginatively and to apply these creative thoughts to their own business problems.

Must have........2006-03-18
I'm taking genetics this semester and it's gotta be one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. The professor assigns us a lot of the problems out of the book, and I don't understand how to approach them all. The solutions manual shows some really good ways to approach genetics problems and has really helped me. I recommend it, though get it used from someone else if you can to save a few bucks. If you do the reading and work the problems and check your answers with the solutions manual, you'll understand genetics a lot better.
Intro to Genetics solutions manual.......2006-03-08
A good buy--it really goes into detail with hard problems and is quite helpful to have!
Genetic Analysis Solutions Manual review.......2006-02-22
The solutions manual is excellent. The Interactive CD that comes with it is one of the best I have ever used. I wish that more interactive genetics was contained on the CD or even possibly a tutorial of the information contained within the Genetics book.
A Great Safety Net for Understanding.......2006-02-20
This study guide works through each end-of-chapter question step by step and really helps to solve many complex problems associated with genetic analysis. Also the interactive CD Rom that accompanies the solutions manual is great for visusalizing complex processes.
Genetics = Cake?.......2006-02-18
It's not like I really really wanted my textbook (nobody wants to study that desperately). Thanks guys! Now I can start procrastinating without worrying about not having the book as backup the night before the test! Haha.
Actually, the structure of this textbook is very well organized. The example problems are thorough and the explanations are equally well-thought-out. Combined with a reasonable lecture/prof, I think the text material is very simple and appropriate- just enough pictures and diagrams to get you by at 3AM after a few eye-burning games of DDR or whatever.

Not my favorite book!.......2007-08-07
I found this book to be confusing and hard to decipher at times!! I sometimes had to read the paragraph several times to get it and then I would find later in the book somewhere, what I was confused about was explained somewhat better. This book caused me to waste a lot of time trying figure out things. Perhaps better organization would be helpful. I wouldn't recomend this book.
very introductory.......2007-05-29
Covers the topics very basically. Good for an undergrad class but not anything more.
an introduction to gentics Analyis.......2007-04-14
The first time we recieved this book it was the answers to text questions only. The second time we did not order it but somehow by just looking at the web site it got orderd thus we had to return it cause we had already purchased it somewhere else.
Good.......2005-09-22
It was just as described, and I am happy with the item I got. Thanks a lot!
Ok Genetics Book.......2005-09-06
The questions in the back of each chapter are really helpful. Sometimes the chapter itself is a bit vague. The chapter describing bacteria genetics was done very poorly. Even my TA agreed that the way it's written is hard for beginners to understand.

Dated Beginners Guide.......2007-05-28
Disappointed is about the only word that comes to mind. The book is written for complete novices (trust me, you know more than you might realize, which will be painfully obvious once you open this book.). Aside from the lengthy overview of the basics, you get hand drawn images of imaginary people doing really basic moves. Yay. And the whole "set up your own routine" is clunky and rather limited given the scope of exercises provided. Do yourself a favor and avoid this title. Instead, pick up The Abs Diet Get Fit Stay Fit Plan, which is much more complete, modern, and useful.
One of the better exercise books.......2007-04-27
This really is a well thought out book, if your getting into weights (i.e. from home) then this is great, does not tell you everything, but really does explain the basics, exercises and posture.
Learn To Design Your Own Weight Training Programs.......2003-07-15
I'm fortunate to have a brother with a master's degree in exercise science and a lot of experience in strength training, as he's always designed my weight training programs for me. But being the self-reliant kind of person that I am, and not wanting to impose too much on my brother's time, I asked him to tell me what one book he would recommend to someone who wanted to learn how to design their own weight training program. He immediately recommended Weight Training Steps to Success. After reading this book, I understand why he recommended it so highly.
The authors first explain the physiology behind weight training and give a detailed orientation on weight training equipment. They then take you step-by-step through learning a basic weight training program, choosing appropriate exercises for each major muscle group. They place great emphasis on taking things slowly and learning proper form for all the exercises before tackling heavier weights for training. The steps for performing each exercise are clear and detailed, and they provide a simple procedure for you to determine with what weight you should start training for each exercise.
After you have mastered the basic training program, they move on to discussing how to design your own training program based on your specific goals (strength, endurance, hypertrophy, or a combination). Their coverage of periodization is the most simple and practical I've ever seen, and it is one of the major reasons my brother recommended this book.
I had some experience with weight training before reading Weight Training Steps to Success, but I had just been doing what I had been told, not really knowing why I was doing what I was doing. I certainly didn't know what to do next after I had reached a certain point. Now I know the whys and hows, and will be able to design my own training program as I continue to progress. This book is also perfect for the absolute weight training beginner, as it assumes no knowledge or experience whatsoever. In short, this book is the perfect place to start if you want to learn how to design your own weight training program.
Excellent book!.......2003-04-16
After digging through piles of books at the library about weight lifting we finally come upon this one and immediately went out and purchased our own copy...
This book is *excellent* for those beginning weight training. It's explanations of things are down-to-earth and simplified without being "dummy-fied".
For once I don't feel lost reading a weight training book.......2002-01-18
I like to research any new endevor, before I commit to a course of action. As a beginning weight "trainee", out of all of the books I've read about this subject, this was the most clear, concise and comprehensive. It gave me all of the information I needed to not only tailor my own program, but where and how to begin, (i.e. how to calculate a good starting workout load, how many reps, etc...) The book takes you through the basics, but is flexible enough to fit anybody's particular preferences and resources. While a few more exercises would be helpful, there are plenty of them layed out to get a good program started.

Hebrew English Dictionary.......2006-11-10
I find that this dictionary is easy to use and the type is large enough to be seen easily. All vowels are clearly marked.
I Love it!.......2006-10-22
I'm a beginning Hebrew student--self-taught because of disabilities that prevent me from taking classes. This dictionary is a wonderul aid. One of the things I especially love is the transliteration. Hebrew words are transliterated into English letters, and English into Hebrew. The latter has been especially helpful for checking my pronunciation. Since I already know how the English words are pronounced I can use the transliteration to see if I've gotten all the sounds right. And, of course, I can use the Hebrew to English transliteration to check my pronunciation of the Hebrew words.
It doesn't give much information about a word's various senses. But when I want that, I turn to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament; Renn's expositional dictionary; Strong's Hebrew lexicon; or Briggs, Driver and Brown. But those are tomes and they don't cover nearly as many words as this dictionary. So the lack of such information is not a flaw, but simply the result of a trade-off. The result, in my opinion, is a lot of bang for the buck.
All in all, I believe this book will be very useful to beginners as they learn the Hebrew alphabet and start building a vocabulary.
Don't waste your money.......2006-04-04
Unfortunately I have bought this dictionary. In the English-Hebrew part the author just gives a list of Hebrew equivalents for every English words without defining the exact meaning of each one and no examples at all. If you look for "fan", you won't know which Hebrew word means fan like fanatic and which means fan like ventilator. I have made my Israely friends laugh several times because of this book. Also the letters are so small that a foreign learner will have a good headache trying to decipher them. Go for Oxford dictionaries instead, they are more expensive but worthy
The one I carry!.......2004-09-16
If you're looking for the one with the right balance of portability, comprehensiveness and clarity... this is it. I'm a second-year Hebrew student and this is by far my favorite inexpensive dictionary.
If Klein's etymological dictionary would come back into print, and in a portable format, I would use it instead. Until then, this is my constant companion.
Comprehensive and affordable.......2004-09-04
It is often the case in foreign-language, dual-language dictionaries that the more comprehensive and detailed, the more expensive the volume. This is also true in Hebrew, where the best dictionaries still tend to be the ones out of reach of the ordinary wallet, particularly those of students. This dictionary, essentially the same dictionary that started as the Signet Hebrew/English Dictionary by Dov Ben-Abba, is rather comprehensive and also affordable.
This dictionary contains more than 35,000 entries, derived from Biblical, Talmudic and Medieval Hebrew as well as modern Hebrew as used in Israel. Those who have not studied Hebrew often do not realise there is a distinction, and that Hebrew has changed over time just as all languages do; Hebrew in a sense had to be reinvented as a modern language in the twentieth century, and Ben-Abba's dictionary takes this into account.
The Hebrew words in both sections are completely vocalised (Hebrew is often printed without nikkud, the diacriticals that denote vowel sounds). There are complete transliterations and pronunciation keys (and, unlike English, Hebrew is much more standard in keeping sounds as they are spelled). The dictionary even includes medical, scientific and slang terminology, but these are changing so rapidly that dictionaries are hard pressed to keep pace.
While there are better Hebrew dictionaries available, at the student-friendly price, this one cannot be beat.

Book Description
A rollicking memoir by one of the greatest (and most outrageous) supermodels of the 1970s.
Janice Dickinson was not only the first of the supermodels, she endured a nightmarishly traumatic childhood at the hands of a sadistic, sexually and emotionally abusive father, and emerged in the early 1970s as the first lush–lipped 'exotic' brunette to break into a modelling world dominated by sunny California blondes.
Janice owned the modelling world in the 1970s. Animated by a fierce desire to be recognised, a fearless spirit, and an insatiable hunger for alcohol, cocaine, sex, and fun, Dickinson appeared on every magazine cover, worked with every major designer and photographer (from Calvin Klein and Gianni Versace to Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon), was married three times, and had passionate affairs or one–night stands with everyone from Warren Beatty to Jack Nicholson to Mick Jagger. Though her career waned in the 1990s, her dramatic life story did not: in recent years she has fought a hotly contested paternity suit with Sylvester Stallone, survived a near–fatal car wreck during a tequila/marijuana blackout in St Bart's, and waged a raging battle with alcohol and drug addiction.
Customer Reviews:
Craptabulous!.......2007-08-24
So, I am a fan of crazy-gorgeous-extreme model types, because they are so much the opposite of me.
Take Janice Dickinson, for instance. Janice walks in a room, and everyone knows it. Maybe they smell her heady melange of booze, perfume, and cigarettes. It could be the obnoxiously loud string of foulness that always enters before she does. And perhaps it's because she's gorgeous and has those crazy -- as in substantially unstable -- eyes that demand attention in a Charlie Manson kind of way. I don't know. Whatever it is, I want it, as do millions of young ladies.
So I really wanted to like this book and experience a lot of "Oh no she di'int" admiration, but mostly, I was stumbling over the lackluster, disconnected writing. Does anyone believe celebrities of her caliber -- low, that is -- really write their own material? I suppose her "writing partner" is partially to blame for the poor quality, but having seen Dickinson in action (critiquing ANTM contestants and manipulating her way through the D-list dumpster that is The Surreal Life), I don't doubt for a second that she'd have creative control and final say on the content and style.
Janice does deliver some juicy bits. For example, way back when Sly Stallone was her man, Janice was regularly given mystery "vitamins" by the Rocky that, in light of recent events, may've been an early iteration of HGH. Hm. Plus there's tons of drugs and boyfriends (and girlfriends), although I could've done without the explicit descriptions of sex ham-fistedly sandwiched into random spots. (It's like she forgot she wasn't writing a Harlequin for a couple of pages.)
As in other memoirs by people who shouldn't necessarily be writing any, there's the usual childhood drama blown out of proportion. Being abused is drama enough -- why add the Lifetime Movie of the Week sentiment for fanfare? It feels a little... exploitative.
But I suppose that's the point. Dickinson made her career out of exploitation -- of her body, the camera, other people's bodies... you name it. I appreciate the candor she shows, and no-holds-barred "outing" of celeb secrets is balanced by kind words for others (for instance, Christie Brinkley is -- or at least was -- a saint). This could've been an excellent book if only she'd taken an intensive in English composition and pulled out a thesaurus. (At least it wasn't as bad as Iceberg Slim!)
Enjoyed it.......2007-06-28
I thought this book was v interesting & honest...a true look into Janice's Dickinsons life. She is a strong character & has survived a hell of a childhood - now i now why she still acts kinda crazy when you see her on tv!
Great book.......2007-06-27
This woman has balls. It is not a book written by someone who is afraid of looking bad, or offending people (I am looking at YOU Kimora Lee Simmons). Janice is one fierce b*tch. I must say she did start to get on my nerves after viewing her reality show, but if you are looking for a juicy book, get this one. You will be satisfied!
This is a woman who needs professional help!.......2007-06-13
This is truly a sick (emotionally & maybe mentally) and delusional woman.
It's amazing to me that this sewer-mouthed narcisist got as far as she did.
This book is trash!
no lifeguard on duty.......2007-05-24
this book is interesting when it talks about her life with family and friends but the rest of it is slow and boring i thought this was going to be great like her other book but its very boring and hard to keep reading,
