Book Description
The book brings together research communities from different disciplines and countries, and offers an exchange about theoretical frameworks and practical experiences to guide research and policy "towards environmental innovation systems". The contributions selected explore new directions of research at the borderline between two established research traditions: systems of innovation and environmental innovations. For this purpose, the book draws on recent conceptual and empirical insights as well as on policy-oriented analyses. It is structured according to the four main areas of interest with respect to environmental innovation systems: conceptual foundations, empirical experiences, strategic approaches, and experiences with policy instruments.

The leadership Author Looks Within.......2007-02-20
Warren Bennis is a prolific writer on leadership, having penned Leaders and On Becoming a Leader amongst other books. In this books, he turns inward reflecting on the lessons involved in analyzing his own life. He willingly covers the negative experiences in his life, including an experience where he offered a partial resignation in protest of administrative policy.
This is not a good first book on either the author, or leadership, but is very valuable for someone already familiar with Warren's work. It'll add context to his ideas, and show how he tried to apply them throughout his life. Certainly worth the time to read it.
Reflections on Life.......2003-11-14
Bennis calls this a "brief intellectual autobiography" in the first chapter, but adds quickly that in looking back it seemed more biographical in that he seemed to be writing of someone other than himself. For an educator he has a surprising confession, "I didn't much like school, and barely remember most of my teachers" he tells us.
He describes his college days, followed by graduate school. After obtaining his own education he entered academe on the other side of the desk and eventually got into administration, becoming a college president.
At this point in the book he segues from personal reflection to his thoughts on larger issues. We've all been victims of bureaucracy at some point. Hopefully he is right in predicting this dysfunctional managerial system is coming to an end.
In the next couple of chapters he hones in on two of his areas of expertise, leadership competencies and managing the dream. He continues on with his thoughts on various other matters. Overall it is interesting to see his perception on his own life and his thoughts on broader matters.

Book Description
Globalization has reshaped the nature of regulation within developed nations. This book draws upon the expertise of some of the most prominent names in rural sociology, geography, and anthropology to show how globalization has opened up a new regulatory politics in which increasingly, non-political sites, spaces, and agents play an increasingly influential role in shaping agricultural production and consumption.
Book Description
This anthology, edited by a professor of wild-life science and a professor of philosophy, offers the most current and comprehensive collection on the topic of environmental ethics available today. It surveys diverse approaches to environmental ethics by leading writers from a variety of disciplines, and provides an historical survey of thought on our responsibility to the environment. The perspectives are represented by their most articulate spokespersons and are accompanied by appraisals of their respective strengths and weaknesses. Chapter introductions, headnotes, discussion questions, and annotated bibliographies are provided. Twenty eight of the 64 articles are new. The new edition deletes those articles with which students had difficulty because they were hard to read and substitutes newer or better-written articles. All chapter introductions were revised to reflect changes in the field. New topics include biodiversity, ecological restoration, environmental justice, and genetic engineering. A new section in the appendix on conflict resolution was requested by students.

An Excellent introduction to key environmental debates.......2000-06-22
A very useful undergraduate level reader in environmental ethics. I use it in the course I teach in the UK. It would also make a good tool for self-teaching or for self-led small group study. For each chapter of readings there are discussion topics, an exercise, suggestions for a debate and a selection of further reading. The wide-ranging readings are carefully chosen, edited and arranged into key themes such as morality, aesthetics, ecofeminism and environmetnal ethics in society. The only other book to cover similar material in a similar manner is Louis Pojman's 'Environmental Ethics: Readings in Theory and Practice'. In my opinion they are equally valuable, making it difficult (should it be neccessary) to choose between them. From a British perspective they both lack historical depth. Botzler and Armstrong's book has only two readings from the eighteenth century or earlier (St Francis and Kant) but this can be supplied from elsewhere if needed.

One of the only books of its kind.......2002-02-07
Field Studies of the Asiatic Wild Dog is the only book of its kind that gives such detailed information about the Asiatic Dhole. The research studies and data that Mike Fox put into this book is very detailed. It tells much about this elusive mammals life history as well as how critical a role it plays in the survival of the many other jungle animal in which it shares its habitat with. The author shows just how degrated animal herds can be without the dholes presence and he despells many of the popular myths associated with this animal today. The book also gives alot of information on the role other indian animals play within the forest ecosystem and informs the reader just how crucial it is that more asian rainforest be set aside and preserved in the near future.

For fans of Into Thin Air, a gripping narrative.
Customer Reviews:
Uncovering the realism of mountaineering..........2002-04-21
A real look into the world of mountaineering that hasn't been glamorized or overly dramatized (in the case of other authors). The primary focus is Denali, but the book often shifts attention away from it, giving the reader a good look into the mountaineering career of Jon Waterman and a bit of insight upon many others. For the experienced mountaineer, they can most likely relate to many of Jon's experiences. To the less experienced, it will give a sobering wakeup call to the realities of mountaineering. I must disagree with the reader from NY listed below as stating that "The author falls into the trap of thinking that climbing is going to give him and some other fellow climbers an insight into life beyond that of the ordinary man." For anyone who has survived a truly epic climb, one does gain a bit of insight into life that they failed to notice beforehand, and that many others do not completely understand...do this regularly enough, and it can in fact change a person. The book was NOT self-indulgent in the least...merely giving a first hand account of his experiences, both good and bad. If you are planning a trip to Denali, this should be required reading....
Enjoyable.......2002-02-23
This book helped me to get a good "feel" for Denali and its surroundings. It was easy to read and entertaining. Waterman recounts his life, first in New Hampshire in the white mountains and then later in Denali as a park ranger.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a little history of Denali and its beautiful surroundings through entertaining short stories while not getting bogged down in factual details and structured story lines.
Incredible honesty about the mountaineering experience.......2002-01-03
I've always been fascinated by Denali (Mount McKinley)and its lands, but most literature about the mountain is similar to most other mountain writing: dry hubristic stories that don't give the deep-down-dirty. Much to my surprise, Waterman includes those hidden details of mountain climbing and Northern life in this incredible book. This is a timeless addition to the mountain writing genre, and what I believe is Waterman's best book. If you don't have it on your shelf, get it, read it, and read it again -- then share it with a friend.
Pretensious Judgmental.......2001-10-13
The author falls into the trap of thinking that climbing is going to give him and some other fellow climbers an insight into life beyond that of the ordinary man.
No doubt he has done some amazing things but the fact is when you get off the mountain you are the same jerk you were before you started. Being a great climber does not make you a better person than someone else.
I thought the chapter about his winter ascent was really self indulgent. Under the circumstances of his physical condition he had no business being there.
On the positive the author has a knowledge of the Denali area that is very impressive but ...
Hard to put down..........2000-11-22
Heck of a book. Kudos to Jon Waterman on putting together a terrific collection of stories related to Denali. For those not well versed in mountaineering I think you can still enjoy this book a great deal. It will give you an honest look into the experience.
In addition, Waterman doesn't try to glamorize it. Sure he'll give you a good look at the many men full of character who have risked life and limb for a chance the climb the high one (as they call Denali). Also some of the stories take place when Jon was younger and you can see how he has matured. He doesn't make any attempt to hide the brashness of his youth. Finally, the climbers themselves really make the book. Read about the 'Pirate', the other Waterman (an especially intriguing story), Wilcox, the inimitable Mugs Stump, and others. A fine book that will having you turning pages and keep your attention.

Book Description
⢠The first tarot deck for the neotribal technopagan from an avant-garde computer revolutionary
⢠The most revolutionary tarot deck to appear since Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot
⢠Synthesizes classic archetypal imagery with state-of-the-art electronic wizardry to create a deck that maps the modern psyche like never before
The Cosmic Tribe Tarot is the most revolutionary tarot deck to appear since Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot. Synthesizing classic archetypal imagery with state-of-the-art electronic wizardry, Stevee Postman has created a deck that maps the modern psyche like no other before. Drawing equally from nature, myth, psychedelics, and contemporary neopagan culture, The Cosmic Tribe Tarot speaks to the fears, hopes, and desires of a new generation. Without abandoning the traditional structure that has made the tarot a successful divination tool for centuries, Postman charges his deck with an erotic, mystical energy, showing that the modern tribal movement is at heart a spiritual one. Never before has a tarot so boldly reconnected the contemporary soul to the eternal cosmos.
Customer Reviews:
A beautiful deck..........2007-03-07
I was afraid when I first saw the Minor Arcana, thinking that without a legitimate scene being portrayed the cards would be too hard to read. I was completely and utterly wrong, this has fast become one of my favorite decks because the art is gorgeous, I find it easy to read without being a complete no-brainer, there are so many different body types, genders, sexual orientations, and it's just delightfully trippy. I wish there were a little more racial diversity, although it is more diverse than what seems to be the norm.
It's also well-packaged, I was shocked when I got it in the mail and saw that it wasn't in some cheap little box. It's a little more expensive than the decks I normally buy, but the quality is well worth it.
Amazing.......2006-09-28
I bought these cards at a small shop in Ann Arbor Michigan after looking at a few examples online. I couldn't be more thirlled. The deck seems to have a way of wraping itself around the reader, almost as if each individual deck has been designed for a specific person. My favorite are the 3 cards for THE LOVERS. The creator of the deck has included 3 seperate cards for THE LOVERS. One is for straight couples, one for lesbian couples, and another for gay couples. The pictures are both sensuous and spiritual. This deck is great for reading, or meditation, and gives life to every thing it's used for. I consider myself blessed in having this deck.
Now classic mystical beauty!.......2005-07-13
When I first encountered this deck I was working at my local Borders. A book seller came up to me and said "I see you have the porno-tarot there. We should keep this locked behind the counter." Well, needless to say this peaked my curiosity. It didnt look like porn...
I puchased a copy of this now classic and was amazed at the skill and analysis in this set. I was not impressed by previous photo collages from the past:The Voyager Tarot. It bas too busy and not skillfully done. This was not the case with this deck. I would almost say this was almost holographic in style.
Nudity is used here and I must admit the models are beautiful! There is no pornography here. If the ideal human form is considered so shameful, the negative responder should be in the 1950s or earlier! There is a post-hippy psychedilic/techno feel going on here. The artist is based in San Francisco, after all.I absolutely love it.
This is not another rewrite of the Rider-Waite deck, (how many of them are in current existence?) I found many correlations to the Crowly-Thoth deck. Bold and courageous in itself. I have yet to encounter many successful clones or tributes to this stand alone classic. Cosmic Tribe seems to pull this off and go a little further! I am sure Crowley and his fans would like this tribute.
The deck does contain many provocative images! The Lover card alone would raise hairs on many necks! There are 3 versions here-2 men,2 women and a man and woman. Ideal for diverse clients who may like to use either or. This brings me to my next issue. Reading for others. This is a deck aimed at a 12+ audience. Most Tarots are provocative already! Even the Mighty Crowly-Thoth has elements that could confuse, frighten and outright shock many! If reading for a public audience, I would keep a spare P-G rated deck around for the morally prudish.
All in all, if I had to pick the best deck to come out of the 1990s this would be it! "Locked up", indeed.
Beautiful and Meaningful.......2005-01-07
My fear was that this would be a "politically correct" gimmick deck.
My criteria for a deck are beauty and authenticity. Some authentic decks, like "Tarot of Ceremonial Magick", are so lacking in aesthetic charm that they are, for me, unuseable.
This deck is really beautiful, true to the meaning of the cards, and very useable. They continue the tarot tradition authentically, without imitating other decks. It's truly a joy to have this deck--and I am a tarot lover and collector.
All prudes and repressed look elsewhere.......2003-07-19
This is the most beautiful tarot deck I've ever seen. The photo collages and art are exquisite. The models are all real and beautiful in natural bodies of all shapes and sizes. The 10 of disks embodies all that is wonderful and orgasmic about living fully in your natural body as a woman in a patriarchal, sexist, ageist, and plastic obssessed society. Complementing Rob Brezsney's Televisionary Oracle novel perfectly, this composite of images, symbols, and the human form has something for anyone interested in creating a progressive vision for the planet that does not involve those who only see the surface of things. Thank you Stevee for your vision.
