This book contains an up-to-date coverage of the last twenty years advances in Bayesian inference in econometrics, with an emphasis on dynamic models. It shows how to treat Bayesian inference in non linear models, by integrating the useful developments of numerical integration techniques based on simulations (such as Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods), and the long available analytical results of Bayesian inference for linear regression models. It thus covers a broad range of rather recent models for economic time series, such as non linear models, autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic regressions, and cointegrated vector autoregressive models. It contains also an extensive chapter on unit root inference from the Bayesian viewpoint. Several examples illustrate the methods.

This is a modern advanced text on econometrics emphasizing dynamic models including the ARCH/GARCH models that have practical application in finance. What makes it a little different than most texts is the Bayesian approach. The authors include coverage of MCMC methods which make the Bayesian approach more realistic. This book provides a very modern treatment of econometrics

Excellent introduction to Bayesian Time Series Econometrics.......2000-06-18

This is an outstanding introduction to the application of Bayesian statistics to the problems encountered in macroeconomics and finance. Bayesian inference it's becoming a critical tool for researchers and practitioners with an interest in empirical ecnomics and to date this is the first book on Bayesian time series econometrics. The sections on nonlinearities and on numerical integration are especially valuable. Having the book it is a must for researchers and professionals interested in modeling and forecasting the state of economy and financial markets.

Description:
This paper studies the properties of the Bayesian approach to estimation and comparison of dynamic equilibrium economies. Both tasks can be performed even if the models are nonnested, misspecified, and nonlinear. First, we show that Bayesian methods have a classical interpretation: asymptotically, the parameter point estimates converge to their pseudotrue values, and the best model under the Kullback-Leibler distance will have the highest posterior probability. Second, we illustrate the strong small sample behavior of the approach using a well-known application: the U.S. cattle cycle. Bayesian estimates outperform maximum likelihood results, and the proposed model is easily compared with a set of BVARs.

A good book. Useful when teaching private lessons. As mentioned previously, the free CD that comes with the book does not contain all the student exercises. The complete audio CDs (or cassettes) can be ordered directly via the Longman U.S. Online Store and Catalog. They're expensive, but may be worth it, particularly for motivated students.

Caution.......2007-05-26

A word of caution. The ad states, "Free audio CD includes all the exercises in the Student Book, providing a model of correct pronunciation for each sound." The audio CD's that are included do not cover all of the excersises in this book. These CD's only cover the "check yourself" section at the end of the book. You have to order a separate book and Audio Program to get all of the excersises.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this course is quite comprehensive actually - there are sections on vowels, stress and rhythm, consonants...I highly recommend it if you study on your own - you got everything you need here. Especially useful if you're confused with minimal pairs - sheep or ship, bad or bed and stuff like that. You'll get lots of practice and tips with these.

A must for anyone interested in Calligraphy as a business!.......2000-08-29

This is an excellent book for those starting in the Calligraphy business. It is well written, easy to read and has many fine illustrations. The author has written a book that caters to the artist. He knows that a lot of artists have a hard time with sales and are often very critical of themselves. His philosophy is to jump in and start working with easier projects and you will gain experience and clients as you go. There are many helpful tecniques I haven't found in other calligraphy books, such as how to address envelopes, the proper way to fill in certificates, and what to do if you have made a mistake! A small book packed with extremely useful information. Note, this book does not include instructions on letter forms and basic calligraphy, you will need to refer to other books for that.
