for Villeneuve, life of the legandary and found this by mistake.
I was not disappointed. Brought back lots of memories, thought it
was more about his life than just one season, but still was
very good. Great insite to his life and Mclaren. Buy it, is worth

The Best Driver Biography Ever Written.......2002-12-20

I have read many bios on auto racing drivers and this one remains my all-time favorite. Peter was a remarkable person in a grueling and demanding profession. Leon Mandel writes of Peter with wit, charm, compassion, and a remarkable insight into the demands placed on a driver by sponsor, teams, family and friends. We get glimpses of the interaction between crew and driver, driver and owner, etc. Peter is gone too soon but this bio stands as a tribute to his skill and bravery. It is also a fine piece of writing and Leon Mandel deserves much praise for this excellent work.

This book is certainly one of its kind in presenting an important aspect of the Arabic language not well covered in the standard books on Arabic grammar. Each chapter begins with a text for reading highlighting some connectors that will be then discussed in detail. A translation of the text is provided. Each chapter has numerous examples followed by exercises.
The utility of the book can be increased by providing vocabulary and key to the exercises for someone studying the book without a teacher.

An excellent review of intermediate/advanced grammar.......2004-01-05

This is an excellent textbook for those students of Modern Standard Arabic who have studied a year or two of the language and would like to improve upon their writing skills. It is particularly useful in a traditional university classroom setting and in fact was the textbook that I used during my third year of Arabic study in graduate school. Organized into 27 short lessons that focus on specific connectors, each lesson includes the following: a presentation of the connectors and their meanings; a selection from an Arabic text (often authentic) that includes the connectors that the lesson focuses on; a translation of the text into English; additional grammatical lessons and linguistic remarks to further clarify the lesson; and numerous drills to challenge the reader. Although this book is very useful for students of Arabic grammar, it is not well suited for those interested in improving their reading skills and/or increasing their vocabulary.

Beyond the grammar book..........2000-06-03

Ths is the most useful book I've found yet for the intermediate or advanced student of Arabic. While a grammar book teaches you all about morphology and is usually sparse on details of syntax, this book will lead you towards the goal of writing idiomatic modern standard Arabic. But to the real beginner, it will seem daunting and over-specialized - it did to me when I first saw it.

A good review text for someone who has studied Arabic before.......1999-06-10

This book is organized into 27 lessons, each covering some 3-8 connectors. By connectors, the authors mean the various particles that serve to conjoin two or more verbs, nouns, phrases, clauses, sentences, etc. Some simple examples in English would be "and", "but", and "or". Some more complex examples are "as for", "in order to", "provided that", and "in connection with". The premise of this book is that such constructions aren't covered adequately in most Arabic-language textbooks. I agree, but I would point out that this is also true of other languages besides Arabic. In fact, I believe a similar book for the English language would be quite a useful reference for students and writers.

This book is an excellent review text for someone who has studied Arabic before whether their level is advanced or intermediate. If you've ever had the frustrating experience of understanding almost every word in a paragraph yet still not comprehending the overall meaning, this book will do wonders for your reading comprehension.

Beginners could also benefit from a book of this type if the examples were translated, which they are not. This is unfortunate and should perhaps be remedied in a future edition.

"Stabilizing and Integrating the Balkans" is an extremely insightful and timely analysis of how-in a globalized world-national governments and international organizations can form a network to deal with regional conflicts. As the foundation for his analysis, Paul Welfens describes the conditions in the Balkans at the end of the Kosovo War and analyzes how the international community has tried to create the conditions for sustained economic growth and political stability in the region. In addition to providing relevant and detailed economic, political, and institutional information, Paul Welfens looks critically at the key actors of the Stability Pact. The book shows that the approached used in the Balkans could become a model for future cooperation among national governments and international organizations to deal with similar political and economic challenges in other parts of the world. Paul Welfens, however, also identifies inconsistencies that should be overcome. Areas of particular concern are the future transatlantic relationship between Europe and the U.S. as well as the enlargement of the European Union.

While the book focuses on the Balkans in the aftermath of the Kosovo crisis, the reader cannot avoid asking the question of how the experiences from the Balkans could also be used to overcome political instability and poor economic conditions in other conflict regions of the world. For example, in the aftermath of the events in the U.S. on September 11, the international community is confronted with a volatile situation in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries such as Pakistan and India. In many respect, a network approach similar to that in the Balkans will be required to stabilize the conditions in that part of the world as well.

Poole argues that this enlargement, more than any previous one, is closely linked with major EU projects of integration, including justice and home affairs, monetary union, a common foreign and security policy, and the effort to create a constitutional treaty. By requiring the eastern states to adopt extensive reforms in their judicial and police systems, the enlargement process makes it easier for the EU to combat terrorism and organized crime and control the flow of immigration from outside Europe. The monetary union was deliberately put in place before enlargement (which might have made the task more difficult), but now the Stability and Growth Pact requires reform to make it flexible enough to serve a larger, more diverse Union. After briefly dealing with arguments for and against NATO's enlargement as far as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, the author shows why the enlargement process must be carried forward to include, in the near future, the three Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Ukraine. Inclusion of the Baltic States and of Ukraine in NATO would stabilize the region by helping the Russian democrats to concentrate on building a genuinely democratic, market-oriented Russian national state, instead of succumbing to the temptation to restore the Soviet Union. Ukraine could also contribute to NATO a sizable conventional military force and a prime strategic area; the Baltic States offer a prime location and an indomitable spirit. The Balts and Ukraine will help NATO when finally admitted as full members. Using polling data, printed material, and interviews with Lithuanian and Ukrainian diplomats, the book convincingly shows the soundness of the Baltic and Ukrainian security goals without glossing over some difficulties, both internal and external.
