Book Description
Divine Economy is the first book to directly address the need for a closer relationship between the two areas. Theology and economics have been treated as very separate and isolated disciplines. Long seeks to answer the question, what has theology to do with economics? He explains that both theology and economics are sciences of human action. This book calls for an active dialogue between theology and economics that calls for a functional economy which doesn't subordinate theological knowledge.

Like crystal: Dense, Clear, Brilliant.......2005-08-09
At only 50 pages in, I am already locked on. I'ts always gratifying when I purchase a book due to an interview with the author (in this case, the June/July issue of The Door), and find the writing style consistent with his or her conversational style. In the case of Stephen Long, the author seems to have done the heavy lifting in advance so layman that I am, I can follow the direction and intent of the text without stopping to back up too frequently.
Also, the subject of Capitalism's dependence on essentially Theological issues for its survival is an extremely exciting idea to contemplate! I expect to purchase more work on this concept and to look up some of Mr. Long's sources.

Book Description
Yoghurt:Science and Technology is a standard work in its field for both industry professionals and those involved in applied research. Because manufacture is still, essentially, a natural biological process, it remains difficult to control the quality of the final product. Such control depends on a thorough understanding of the nature of yoghurt and both the biochemical changes and process technologies involved in production. Yoghurt: Science and Technology provides just such an understanding. Since the last edition, the industry has been transformed by the introduction of mild-tasting "bio-yoghurts", changing both consumer markets and manufacturing practices. This new edition has been comprehensively revised to take on board this and another major developments in the industry. Thus, today, millions of gallons of yoghurt are produced each year, yet manufacture is still, in essence, a natural biological process in which success can never be taken for granted. It is this capricious nature of the fermentation that leaves the system prone to variation. So, though some aspects of production of yoghurt have become fairly standard, there are so many areas of potential difficulty. This book offers preliminary guidance on the intricacies of production and distribution of yoghurt so as to minimize product failure. Features o Offers a thorough understanding of the nature of yoghurt, including both the biochemical changes and production o Discusses the changing consumer markets and manufacturing processes o Provides guidance in production and distribution so as to minimize product failure Catalog Copy

Book Description
This entertaining and informative book describes how living things bump up against non-biological reality. "My immodest aim," says the author, "is to change how you view your immediate surroundings." He asks us to wonder about the design of plants and animals around us: why a fish swims more rapidly than a duck can paddle, why healthy trees more commonly uproot than break, how a shark manages with such a flimsy skeleton, or how a mouse can easily survive a fall onto any surface from any height.
The book will not only fascinate the general reader but will also serve as an introductory survey of biomechanics. On one hand, organisms cannot alter the earth's gravity, the properties of water, the compressibility of air, or the behavior of diffusing molecules. On the other, such physical factors form both constraints with which the evolutionary process must contend and opportunities upon which it might capitalize. Life's Devices includes examples from every major group of animals and plants, with references to recent work, with illustrative problems, and with suggestions of experiments that need only common household materials.
Customer Reviews:
Explains "Animal Design" in a Remarkably Readable Style.......2000-03-29
One of the most readable biology books I've ever come across. While it can easily be used for an undergraduate course in animal physiology and evolution, Vogel's text is humorous, (obscure references, funny quotes, and puns abound, adding to the text rather than detracting from it), but also covers a wide range of topics with clear explainations. The chapters are well structured and the table of contents suggests some of the more interesting highlights: why an ant might bite but can't hit, reinflating squid, plumbing the common features of the pipes within organisms, etc. While there is a strong emphasis on fluids in biology, (the author's specialty), it's an amazingly readable, well-written, and informative book on the entire subject of the physical constraints on animals for the interested laymen or undergrad. Table of contents: Constraints & Oppertunities, A Variety of Variables, Size & Shape, Dimensions Gradiaents & Summations, Gases & Liquids, Viscosity & Flow, Pressure & Flow, Diffussion vs Convection, A Matter of Materials, Arranging Structures, Insinuations About Curves, Systems of Support, Mechanics of Mobility, Staying Put & Getting Away, Energy & Afterthoughts. Also has an extensive and well-prepared bibliography, a great jumping off point for further adventures in the field.
An interesting journey to where Biology and Physics meet!.......1998-12-25
This is an excellent book for those that are interested in learning more about how life developed on this planet. It engages the reader with a variety of examples, stimulating thought as how complexs life is and how it's bound to our physycal universe. I recommend it!

Book Description
Dynamics of Bone and Cartilage Metabolism is a comprehensive treatise that spans the complete range from basic biochemistry of bone and cartilage components to the clinical evaluation of disease markers in bone and joint disorders.
Part I of the book provides an up-to-date account of current knowledge of the structure, biosynthesis and molecular biology of the major tissue components, including the important regulators such as cytokines, growth factors, and proteases.
The second part of the book covers the organizational structure and cellular metabolism of bone and cartilage. As with the first part, there are separate sections on bone and cartilage addressing their specific and unique functions. For bone, questions on mineralization, remodeling and hormonal regulation are covered as well as the derivation of products of metabolism: for cartilage, the physiology and pathology are reviewed in relation to the products of metabolism, together with recent data from animal and in vitro models. The first two parts of the book serve to contextualize all of the biochemical markers for assessing bone and cartilage metabolism.
Part III deals with the utility of components specific to bone and cartilage as biomarkers of health and disease, both in experimental and clinical settings. A wide range of disorders affecting bone and cartilage metabolism is covered, including different forms of osteoporosis, metastatic bone disease and arthritic diseases, as well as some of the less common growth and degenerative abnormalities. This application-oriented part of the book is complemented by an initial section detailing the methodological and technical aspects of the various biochemical and genetic markers of disease and their measurements.
With contributions from over 75 international experts, this book will be indispensable reading for those involved in skeletal research as well as for rheumatologists, endocrinologists, clinical biochemists, and other clinical disciplines participating in the management of the patient with bone and cartilage diseases.
Key Features
* Comprehensive and complete guide to bone and cartilage biochemistry and metabolism

Customer Reviews:
Great Book on passing routes.......2006-03-01
This is a great stand alone book, as well as a great companion to Coverdale's first book Bunch Attack. Goes into great detail on routes, techniques, and adjustments. Great read.
Very helpful.......1999-12-27
Our staff implemented the basic quick pass schemes into our offense and were fairly successfull this past season. We had a freshman make 38 catches. It would be worth your while to purchase the set of 3 books or minimally the first 2 books. Very helpful if you are looking to quickly develope a quick passing game. The video series is quite helpful also.

Martha Williamson, the executive producer of the hit television series Touched by an Angel, found herself in a spiritual dilemma when she began planning her wedding. Although she saw numerous books that told her how much money to spend and how many guests to invite and offered mind-boggling check lists, she could not find a book that talked about how to create a wedding that celebrated the union before God. What soon became clear to Williamson is that she wasn't interested in elaborate theme weddings, staged performances, or even tasteful displays of wealth. She wanted to create a wedding that invited God's presence. "Because when God is there suddenly all your priorities are in order," she writes.
This is indeed an excellent resource for getting prenuptial priorities straight. Chapters include "The Myth of the Dream Wedding" and "I Don't Want a Religious Wedding," where Williamson explains that God can be present even without a religious structure. In "Dousing Old Flames and Severing Soul Ties," Williamson discusses letting go of those deep ties to old lovers in order to be fully present with your new beloved. These are the kind of warm and honest discussions we might have with our dearest, wisest aunts. Fortunately, Williamson is here to hold the hand of every bride who is looking for more than prom-glitz and theme galas and is instead seeking a more authentic and sacred union. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
"God is the silent partner in all great enterprises."
-- Abraham Lincoln
"In the months before our wedding, I searched the shelves of my favorite bookstores for a wedding book that I never found: A book that would celebrate my joy and acknowledge my fears. A book that would be a silent friend that wouldn't overwhelm me with week-by-week checklists and endless pictures of table settings. . . . I knew that before I began organizing the most important event of my life, I needed to organize my heart."
Inviting God to Your Wedding is not just about planning for an event. It's about preparing for a miracle. Written with honesty, wisdom, and humor by Touched By An Angel Executive Producer Martha Williamson, with a special chapter for men by her husband and Co-Executive Producer Jon Andersen, this inspiring book is a "wedding handbook" for your spirit and your soul.
Funny, thought-provoking, and thoroughly useful, it is filled with ideas, suggestions, and commonsense advice that focus on the most important aspect of every wedding: the coming together of a man and a woman "in the sight of God." From wedding showers to the wedding night, this personal workbook will help create a three-way partnership with God from the start, one that will sustain couples in times of crisis as well as triumph and joy.
Inviting God to Your Wedding will become an encouraging handbook of comfort, and celebration in the weeks and months before your wedding, and a treasured book of memories throughout your marriage.
Customer Reviews:
MUST HAVE.......2007-09-27
Don't listen to ANY negative reviews about this book! This book is EXCELLENT. It's a true page turner. Her information is timeless and will help you keep your focus on what's important...maintaining your marriage. In this day and age, people give the wedding soooo much more attention than how they're gonna LIVE with each other when it's all over.
This is a purchase you WON'T regret.
This is all you need if you are engaged.......2006-10-31
I suggest 1) a premarital class at your church, 2) $50 for a license, 3) a minister, and 4) this book for a God-loving marriage.
I read this book when I got engaged and completely gave myself, my husband, and my relationship to God, and this book helped out.
What is this about: your Cinderella fantasy party or uniting yourself in God's gift of a precious covenant? You can take off the rose-colored glasses without dampening your spirit. This book encourages you to be realistic and prepared without seeming intimidating. No day in your life is perfect, and your wedding is no exception.
Rather than making sure the dress is perfect, polish your relationship with your fiance by praying together, sharing, communicating. Cause the wedding may seem like a big deal now...but looking back 2 years later, just me, it's better to invest energy that everyday after your wedding is better than that "big day." Celebrate, laugh, and enjoy your special day with God's presence, but remember the best is yet to come!
That is only part of the book. It's truly meant for anyone: already married, getting married, or who would like to marry someday. Offers great healing processes with your spouse, financial strategies, and putting Christ above it all! I recommend buying and opening it up every once in a while!
Forget the planning books! This book is all you need!.......2003-06-02
I received this book as a gift, and I know that it was God-sent. It reminded me that good luck traditions showed a lack of faith in me for God to handle everything. As if I needed luck! I have God, and He will provide blessings beyond everything else.
Because I wasn't worried about getting all the traditions right so I'd have a happy marriage, I honestly enjoyed my wedding more than most I believe ever do!
The producers of Touched By An Angel wrote this, and I can see why the tv show was on so long!
Draws you both closer to God before the big day!.......2002-11-14
This book is wonderful! My husband and I read it together in the months before our wedding, taking turns writing our responses, praying together and talking about some issues that may not have come up otherwise (like "past loves"). This book really places the focus on the marriage and the sanctity of that covenant, and on keeping God at the center of the relationship. We can also now go back and read the notes we made to each other in the book, and remember how special that time was leading up to our wedding. Buy this book!!
Beautifully Written!!!!!.......2002-01-03
I received this book as a birthday present, four months prior to my wedding. It came at the best time in my life; when I was overwhelmed in wedding planning and preparation. I can't remember God not being there for me, but I seemed to need Him so much more during that wonderful time. Ms. Williamson's book helped me put things in perspective while allowing me to put my heart's thoughts on paper. My husband and I desired to make our wedding ceremony a true worship experience. This book assisted in making sure that we shared our incredible love for God with others and the incredible love He gave us to give to one another. There are spaces available to journal your thoughts, jot down wedding ideas, and just write those words that we often find difficult to speak. The scripture references just touched our hearts (perfect for incorporating in your service, the prayers to read aloud were powerful and the words of encouragement were answers to prayer.
Every marriage needs God in the center of it. Ms. Williamson's anointed words give guidance to making sure a couples' true focus belong on the Father. Only He can give perfect peace and unspeakable joy during the midst of all the planning and excitement and all the days that will follow.
I hope reading this book touches another soul as it has touched mine.
