The book introduces genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic technologies. It describes the advantages and challenges associated with these approaches compared to traditional methodologies, particularly from the perspective of cross-species extrapolation within human and environmental toxicology, and explores solutions that will facilitate the incorporation of these technologies into predictive toxicology. The book goes on to identify and prioritize species of animals that can serve as surrogates for environmental and human health in comparative toxicogenomic studies. The chapter authors elucidate similarities and differences among species, relate stressor-mediated responses to adverse outcomes, and extend this science into innovative approaches to risk assessment and regulatory decision-making.

In July of 2004, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and the Society of Toxicology (SOT) jointly sponsored a workshop entitled 'Emerging Molecular and Computational Approaches for Cross Species Extrapolations' in Forest Grove, Oregon. Thirty five scientists and professions were brought together from diverse fields, including environmental toxicology and chemistry, biomedical toxicology, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, bioinformatics, computer science and statistics.
This book presents all relevant discussions and conclusions from the workshop. There were several key conclusions and recommendations from the workshop area, too numerous to mention in this short review, but covered in depth in the text. The papers presented in this book come from a who's who in the field from universities and institutions all around the United States and from England, Japan, and Canada.

Mandatory for a firm basis in future interests ............2007-07-03
At the time of this review, only one other reviewer had commented on the book and that review dates back to 2000. Therefore, I felt that a more recent comment on the book is necessary. The prior reviewer's comments are still valid as of this writing. I was completely lost in the terminology and the archaic deciphering of the wording of possessory estates and future interests until I read this short book. Although by no means a comprehensive guide (it isn't meant to be one anyhow), the author does an exemplary job of walking the student thru the wording and the meaning of these different estates. Personally, I found that at least half the battle was won when I started to learn to which estate a phrase was meant to apply. Just like any other field, if you can't speak the language, you will be lost. Get this book and start to decipher the wording in your property law book.

This book is an absolute must for any first year law student. It provides clear and simple explanations of the several different kinds of possessory estates and their related future interests. It will also provide you with sets of practice problems(and explanations) to help sharpen your skills with such abstract concepts as vested and contingent remainders, rights of re-entry, possibilities or reverter, and the much celebrated(and bewildering) rule against perpetuities. These problem sets will not only keep you entertained and amused for hours, but they will also help prepare you for final exam in property. This book might also be fun for anybody depraved, and boring, enough to study this type of material for their own edification.

Beautiful project for placecards.......2006-02-20
There are two nice things about the Calligraphy Masterclass. One is a set of very good nibs, including square nibs. There are ink cartridges for fountain pens, but you'll probably want to use the regular pen for the nibs that is included and buy a bottle of India Ink. For obvious reasons, one could not put a full bottle of ink in with this book.
The other thing I like about this book is the project for embossed leaf invitation/place cards. They are absolutely wonderful and worth the book alone. If you are planning a wedding or anniversary party, these elegant place cards would work exceptionally well. In addition to the beautiful place cards is a project for letterhead and example of a homemade wine label, a 50th anniversary card and a greeting card. There are practice examples and practice pages, which you could photocopy to make more of. Excellent value.
Terrible -- Buy "The Complete Calligraphy Set" instead.......2003-08-03
This set is just terrible. The box has the lie that this set includes everything you need. In fact, it contains no calligraphy ink, and the ink that is in the box is packaged in fountain pen cartridges. That there is no fountain pen in the bos makes this fact is bizare. Moreover, the text book is useless.
BUY READER'S DIGEST'S "THE COMPLETE CALLIGRAPHY SET" INSTEAD. It is an excellent work, does have everything you need, and has much more information in the text book.
Horrible misleading book.......2002-12-31
My wife received this as a Christms gift. We were both confused as to the mish-mash of materials and instructions provided, especially since on the cover it states "A Complete Guide to Calligraphy with Ten Stylish Projects" and on the back is assures the buyer that the kit comes with "everything you will need...." Not only is everything NOT included, the instructions themselves are sparse and very badly written. It reminds me of a Mad Magazine take on "how to draw comics" where the first few panels show blobs and the last a finished, highly detailed piece.
Other examples of bad writing: while a few pages show the angle to use from above, none show the elevation. Most amazingly, in several places and projects, the author shows a few letters from the example stylized scripts, she doesn't show the entire alphabet.
Missing Material.............2002-11-13
I was rather excited to have received this calligraphy set for Christmas but was surprised to find that I could not use it immediately. The book comes with a nice inking pen, but no pot of ink. It does come with ink cartridges but no fountain pen. It's ridiculous. The book is pretty to look at but as the other reviewer mentioned, little instruction is given on the art of calligraphy.
The missing pieces of material is quite disappointing. I was really looking forward to trying my new calligraphy set.

I can't say that's not a nice book: good examples and very nice works, a careful edition. But the subtitle Masterclass is not true. I bought expecting an advanced guide for my projects and what I found was beginer's lessons. But what really made me happy was the material (that was not even cited when I bought), very good pens,ink(for fountain pen, that's not included...) and a gold foil. The other problem is that there's almost any instructions about the material, especially the bamboo pen shaping.
