India and Global Climate Change: Perspectives on Economics and Policy from a Developing Country (RFF Press)
Manufacturer: RFF Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1891853619 |
Book Description
Though the impact of climate change will most likely be greatest with the already poor and vulnerable populations in the developing world, much of the writing about the costs and benefits of different policies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is by Western scholars, working in advanced industrialized economies.
India and Global Climate Change helps address the gap in the literature about climate change policy while acknowledging that India has already had a crucial role in international climate change negotiations. Drawing the majority of its contributions from authors based at Indian universities and other research centers, the book includes diverse approaches toward policy issues such as the energy-economy and forestry relationships that drive GHG emissions; the options and costs for restricting GHG emissions while promoting sustainable development; and the design of innovative mechanisms for expanded international cooperation in GHG mitigation.
With a population of over one billion, and an economy that is undergoing substantial restructuring and greatly increased economic growth after a number of years of stagnation, India has an exceptional stake in the debate about climate change policy. The contributors to India and Global Climate Change hope that their scholarship will inform policymakers and scholars not only about the perspectives of India, but of the broader, developing world.

Sampling and Statistical Methods for Behavioral Ecologists
Jonathan Bart , Michael A. Fligner , and William I. Notz Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 052145705X |
Book Description
This book describes the sampling and statistical methods used most often by behavioral ecologists and field biologists. Written by a biologist and two statisticians, it provides a rigorous discussion together with worked examples of statistical concepts and methods that are generally not covered in introductory courses, and which are consequently poorly understood and applied by field biologists. The first section reviews important issues such as defining the statistical population and the sampling plan when using nonrandom methods for sample selection, bias, interpretation of statistical tests, confidence intervals, and multiple comparisons. After a detailed discussion of sampling methods and multiple regression, subsequent chapters discuss specialized problems such as pseudoreplication, and their solutions. This volume will quickly become the favorite statistical handbook for all field biologists.Download Description

Look Down On The Stars (The Potts' Factor Versus Murphy's Law)
Stanley Potts , and Stan Potts Manufacturer: Stanley Potts / Stoneydale Press Pub Co ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 1931291306 |
Product Description
In Look Down on the Stars, his second book, Stanley Potts delves into more rich detail of the incredible life he's lived in the remote land of the America West -Idaho and Nevada in particular- and shares many stories, including a few hair raising ones, of his many escapades growing up in and spending a lifetime in the back country. He became one of the country's most famous bighorn sheep guides and shares some stories out of those experiences in Look Down On The Stars. However, he also brings the reader along with him with humorous and heart warming stories about how this great land shaped him as a youth, as a young man, and then an adult, who in turn, helped shape ways for people to get into this wild land and enjoy it as much as he does. In addition, his dedication chapter pays tribute to an incredible lady, his mother, Sarah Gray Potts, with a series of stories that, if they had stood alone, would have made this book a winner. Stan and his wife, Joy, make their home in Shoup, Idaho. This is the second book in a series. The first book is The Potts' Factor Versus Murphy's Law. The third book released in 2006 is The Potts Factor's Return.

Majesty: Visions from the Heart of Elk Country
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Manufacturer: Falcon Pr Pub Co ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1560442506 |
Book Description
Majesty. Too grand a word? Hardly. The challenge rises in trying to describe a great wild ruggedness with a language born on a small island of green hills. Or, on a deeper level, trying to reduce the imperfect harmony of a roaring flute-an 800-pound, urine soaked, mud-slathered, wild-eyed flute-to a few flat syllables. Plenty of folks have tried. And a few, in sublime moments, have crossed over, the pages of their books suddenly smelling like pine duff and elk musk. Those sublime moments are gathered together here-the words of dozens of people who have loved elk and elk country over the past century. And these passages are coupled with a language of greater clarity-photographs that need no words, images that ring with something very much like the sound of a faint bugle drifting down out of the fog. Listen well as you turn these pages. There is majesty here.Customer Reviews:

How to Tell the Difference between Japanese Particles: Comparisons and Exercises
Naoko Chino Manufacturer: Kodansha International ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 477002200X |
Book Description
Particles are one of the most difficult aspects of the Japanese language. This is precisely why there are a good number of books on the market dealing with the subject. Most of these books take up particles as independent entities, so that after having studies them, students are, if all goes well, familiar with the functions of the individual particles. One unfortunate side to this approach is that some of the particles share the same functions (but with slight differences), and so even though students may have grasped the general nature of each particle, they are not sure about the differences between the particles that have similar functions. Well-known language book author Naoko Chino solves this problem by grouping the particles by function, defining them, giving samples of usage, and clarifying differences. Each section is followed by dual-purpose quizzes that allow readers to test and practice their knowledge. In this way, while not replacing general reference books on particles, this book goes a step beyond them and helps students nail down the troubling differences between particles. For students who find themselves befuddled when confronting such differences, How to Tell the Difference Between Japanese Particles should prove the perfect tool to further their understanding.Customer Reviews:
