Useful Read.......2007-09-19

This is a valuable book for beginners and intermediates. Its detail as expected in any book is moderate. Learning the true methodologies of BPM requires experience and additional reading. This book however does serve as a useful tool in understanding BPM and its mehtodologies as well as standardising a roll out.

Practical Manual.......2007-02-22

Anyone who's interested in process improvement needs to invest in this book. Written in simple plain language, the book simplifies bpm and bpi.
Though I bought this book based on other people's reviews, I am proud to send mine. If you are new in business process management, redesign or even re-engineering, this is a good place to start. I have found this book as a great material with real-life examples. It is an excellent guide for implementing a process improvement or management project. I am currently working on a business process improvement project for one of my training programs and I have found the ideas expressed in this book handy.
As a six sigma specialist, I find myself reading similar books but this book stands out and I look forward to the next page as I read on.

Informative, Thorough, Interesting, Captivating.......2006-07-15

A must read publication. The author is consice and does not stray from the topic. It all comes down to how one manages processes in the business environment for maximizing efficiency. That is exactly what the book concentrates on.
The Author does a fantastic job of going into detail about important topics.

This book may be advertised as a polemic, but it actually provides straight common sense where it's most needed. In a political era where ideology often takes second place to facts, Stebbins lays the science bare on a host of controversial issues--from stem cells to genetic testing. You might not always agree with him, but he'll definitely get you thinking.

Being able to explain scientific concepts to nonscientist is an art. Michael Stebbins has accomplished the goal of explaining several areas of scientific research that sometimes gets drawn into politics (embryonic stem cell research). He takes every subject and explains it in language that the lay person can understand. He does a great job of showing how special interest groups can take some segment of the subject, distort it and promote opposition to the research and make it look legitimate to the unknowing public. We need more books like this and more scientist like Michael Stebbins!!!

Doctor Mike Rocks! I urge you to read this book. The Dr. lays it out there, whether you know anything about science or not it doesn't matter - you will after reading this book. It's funny and really terrifying at the same time. A tell all, hard-and-slamming-clash between the myths, truths and politics behind the world of science. A Must Read for Young and Developing Scientists.......2006-09-26

Sex, Drugs and DNA is a fantastic literary find. Michael Stebbins shares a voice seldom heard in today's news and politics, that of an independent and experienced scientist. Most of what you hear on the news about science these days seems to consist of "expert" journalists with no more information on the subject they are discussing than a brief overview of a watered-down scientific abstract. This is a man who has devoted his life to science and is not afraid to give his opinions on what is wrong with today's society, and, more importantly, how these problems might be solved.

I was personally very impressed with his first chapter. It is something that I would highly recommend to most young and developing scientists. I feel it gives an honest and needed look at what they will be dealing with in the near future.

Michael Stebbins makes this foray into the world of a science an entertaining and informative journey. I highly recommend it.

Well written and concise, Dr. Luxbacher not only offers the reader the steps to achieve success, but also (and perhaps more importantly), unlike most instructional books, diagnoses frequent errors and provides the steps to overcome them. The book covers all aspects of play and details dozens of practice games designed to improve any soccer players ability.

Australian football never stops changing - and yet it basically stays the same. That is, there are skills that cannot be changed, just perfected. But how these skills of kicking, marking, handpassing, protecting a team-mate carrying the ball and tackling an opponent holding the ball are combined to come up with winning tactics in Australian football never stand still. The great irony of Australian football is that if the skills were executed with greater precision, let alone understanding, the tactics would be more effective ... and probably stay more simplistic.

In the past decade, Australian football â€" certainly at its elite AFL level â€" has had the balance swing to the wrong extreme. The need for speed has encouraged AFL coaches to recruit athletes ahead of naturally gifted footballers. The consequence has been these coaches have then had to design game styles and tactics to cover up the weaknesses in football techniques of their new-age players.

Andrew McLeod is a dual Norm Smith Medallist, an honour won as the best player in the AFL's 1997 and 1998 grand finals. He also is a three-time All-Australian footballer, an honour to recognise he warranted selection in the best combination of 22 AFL players for a season in three different years. The irony here is that McLeod has, by a difficult knee complaint, been denied the pace to out-run the new-age quick-footed athletic footballer. But his skills have never been dulled â€" and have shone brighter. This is evidenced in 2005 by his miraculous goal while hugging the boundary line of the Telstra Stadium that sunk Collingwood. As McLeod lined up, with the Collingwood cheer squad to his left and just a paper-thin view of the goal, it was speed of mind and skills of a champion that allowed the Adelaide match-winner to execute a kick that fell to the feet of the goal umpire.

McLeod and club-mate Trevor Jaques (who, as the Crows' training services manager, has had to carefully manage the battered knee of his club's champion) have struck a timely partnership to hopefully reinforce the skill factor of Australian football. And, at the same time, they have offered a much-needed course on the new tactics of the game â€" a must-read for even those who watch hundreds of hours of AFL football and become jaded by the imbalance of new game-plans against simplicity.

Australian Football: Steps to Success was first published by Human Kinetics as the work of Jaques in 1994. Much has changed since then, prompting this second edition with the wisdom of experience offered by McLeod. It is a skills book, much-needed in a time when so many basic traits in football need to be revived. Sadly, too many teenagers enter the AFL unaware the way they hold the ball â€"particularly with a drop punt while lining up for goalâ€" influences their kick. McLeod is a master worth reading to appreciate the skill, not just by young players, but every coach developing the next McLeod. It also is a training book, helping the same coaches prepare their programs. It also is a tactical book, very much needed in a time when so many football fans, brought up on the simplicity of old football, struggle to appreciate why coaches and players now speak of screens and zones and do such radical things as kick across goal or not man up at kick-ins.

McLeod and Jaques fill the void in giving Australian football a detailed and well-planned guide on how the game is played and how it should be executed. Beyond the theory, they also offer anecdotes of how skill has influenced the results of games ... such as that day McLeod broke Collingwood with his deft kick on a boundary line.

This superbly illustrated study is the first monograph devoted to the manuscript production of a regional French town of the late Middle Ages. Amiens at this period was an important commercial, religious, and cultural centre, poised geographically and politically between France and Flanders, and thus between the most avant-garde artistic regions in Northern Europe for panel painting and manuscript illumination.

Examining manuscript illumination in Amiens in its historical and socio-economic context, the author pinpoints the artistic interchange between France and Flanders and at the same time reassesses many of the assumptions made concerning the work of the most famous illuminator working in Burgundian territories at the time, Simon Marmion. Since documentary evidence is lacking, the internal evidence of the books themselves is employed, using a codicological approach to establish which manuscripts were made in the town, when and how, and how to trace stylistic, physical, and textual relationships between them. Major themes of the work are the interchange of artistic ideas and the use of models in the process of creation and production, the formation of local style, and the reaction of indigenous illuminators to foreign ideas from both Paris and Flanders.
