Econ Profs, Start Here First.......2001-12-01
This is one of 2 books I kept from my four years in college. It is also the book that helped me choose Economics as one of my minors. It's that good.
Gottheil's models (actually, he really only uses one model--a fishery) are almost absurdly easy to follow. Along the way he takes concepts a student would find new and difficult, and makes them into concepts a student can follow, and in my case, enjoy. I whole heartedly reccomend this title.
Principles of Microeconomics by Gottheil = SIMPLICITY.......2001-05-19
I have now had two course in economics - Principles of Micro. and Macro., both classes required the use of the priciples books by Fred Gottheil. My professor was a student of Mr. Gottheil and described his classes as clarifying. She said that he made economics easy to understand. This book by Gottheil, as his class, is also easy to comprehend. The topics are confusing to a newcomer of economics but the style and clarification used makes the principles quite simple.

You're absolutely correct!! I was a student of Prof. Gottheil the first year he released this book. The teachings of the book make Micro-Economics both easy to understand and enjoyable. I've recommended this book to both undergrads and MBA students alike, and have not received a single complaints (but have received much praise).

Description:
Soil water stress and its impact on the monsoon season potential rainfed rice productivity in Bangladesh is investigated. A crop growth simulation model, CERES-Rice, is applied to 16 locations representative of the major rice growing regions of Bangladesh to determine the impact of soil water stress on the regional scale potential yield for four transplanting dates: 1 June, 1 July, 15 July, and 15 August. A quantified estimate of potential yield loss for four regions and for Bangladesh as a whole is calculated for water stress during flowering and maturing stages. For example, in Bangladesh, average potential yield for 1 June transplanting date, under low water stress during both flowering and maturing stages, is 7218 kg ha^-^1. On the other hand, high water stress during maturing, flowering, and both flowering and maturing stages, results in yield reduction of 37%, 46%, and 73%, respectively. Model applications show that for a 15 July transplanting date, average potential yield under low water stress during both flowering and maturing stages is 6077 kg ha^-^1. However, the loss of potential yields are 39%, 57%, and 70% for this transplanting date, due to high water stress during maturing, flowering, and both flowering and maturing stages, respectively. For a 15 August transplanting, average potential yield is 4217 kg ha^-^1 and loss is 32%, 38%, and 38% for high water stress during maturing, flowering, and both flowering and maturing stages, respectively. The results of this study can be further utilized for future agricultural planning in Bangladesh and other parts of monsoonal Asia.

I found this book very useful and with an excellent range of topics and readings. Used in WRC 1023 at UTSA. We did not read the entire book, but I found such interesting articles within the book that I ended up reading a large number of additional topics just out of curiousity. This book has a great section on "How to Mark a Book" and a very good section on "The Writing Process". Also includes some famous images from past newspaper articles and magazines.

I teach calligraphy and was looking for something to keep my beginner students going once they'd completed the course. This book is it. It gives samples of a hundred different fonts as well as clear instructions on how to create the letters. The spiral binding was a real plus as it lays flat on the work surface. If I get the chance to teach a Level II in Calligraphy this would be a book I could recommend.

This is an excellent reference book for the beginner or advanced calligrapher. The spiral binding is a wonderful feature allowing the book to stay open while you practice. The pages are heavy duty and full color. The samples are beautiful and the history of writing is fascinating. Even though this book is available at my local library, I will probably purchase a copy for my everyday use at home.

I need already to be a calligrapher in order to enjoy this 100 alphabets. Only two pages are dedicated to each of them. It is not enough if youa have not practiced previously the art of writing.
Marvellous handbook!.......2006-05-08
I have dabbled with calligraphy and have several books myself, most of them are big and have beautiful pictures and present the same styles; Roman, Uncial, Italic and Gothic styles with some variations. I ordered this book because of the raving reviews and its low price and was greatly, pleasantly surprised!
Firstly: the book isn't big in size, it's actually about the size of a normal novel but had 256 pages. Secondly: it is spiral-bound which means it will stay flat and the spirals are inside the cover, safe from damage. And as the book doesn't take up much room on the table it's ideal to have around when you're working. Calligraphy equipment takes a lot of space. And thirdly: yes, there really are lots and lots of styles! I found beautiful, tempting styles with romantic names such as Luxeuil, Cancelleresca and Beneventan. There are two pages for every style, the alphabet is presented on the left page and basic structure on the right one. And many styles seem to include also such rare latters as German double-s, Swedish o (a with a little square on top) and Icelandic o with / over it.
I think this book works best for those who have already done some calligraphy, because it isn't as detailed when it comes to layout and other technical points as some of the books I have, the ones that have big pages and big pictures. But this is a very good book indeed for anyone interested - and look at the price! It's ridiculously low!!

beautiful... from cover to cover.......2001-04-02
I am a beginner calligrapher and The Complete Calligrapher was the first calligraphy book I purchased. I chose it because the cover is so pretty. I took it to my teacher, who has over twenty years of calligraphic experience, and she was equally as impressed as I was. She said it was a great book for beginners because of its well formed and well spaced alphabets. She put in an order that night! The book covers everything from nibs to paper from inks to ink stones. The alaphabets are such that the beginnger can easily trace, and there are pages of basic letter strokes to practice. There is a two page glossary at the end of the book which I found to be quite helpful. There is a beautiful two-page layout of the tools used for calligraphy - again... just beautiful. I refer to this book every day when I practice my calligraphy, even though my calligraphic library is expanding... it is still the first book I choose. I hope this review helped you.

I think this is a good book but the size of it is absurd. It's a heavy and bulky hardbook. I have seen better sized books in hardbook for calligraphy. The content is better but it still lacks in that some people are not only looking at to pratice the alphabets but are manvuering around it's size.

The Compleat guide to Calligraphy.......2006-05-06
This is a large colorful paperback put out by Quantum Press, London. They are a republishing house and as such there is no author listed. However someone knew what they were doing. This book has a little background and history, some suggested tools and materials and then how to do and ductuses. So far not unusual. The last half of this book is projects and this part is singular. Step by step with color illustrations, there is something for beginner to advanced. This needs to be shown here on the site so that the potental buyer can make a good decision. Good luck in you lettering.
