This book, along with Keith Brockie's One Man's Island, have been a great influence on my life. The drawings and text obviously reveal a deep love and knowledge of Scotland's flora and fauna. I began doing art again after reading these books. Anybody with a love for Nature-as it really is and not some romantisized version-will love these books as well.

Brian Pitmans book is an excellent, down to earth guide to Fencing, he cover the three weapons Foil, Epee and Saber that are used in Olympic style of fencing.

Some Fencing books are to much concerned with the history of Fencing and often teach old or even outdated styles, that may be interesting in itself but if you want to compete in modern fencing you need modern, practical down to earth kind of book and this is it, also if you just want to Fence for fun this book is great, after all most people who want to Fence do it for the joy of it and not to be historically correct and beautiful, you Fence in order to hit the opponent and prevent him from hitting you, of course good and fun Fencing can be beautiful and even though the traditionalist are always complaining about the look of modern Fencing you can see many examples of top Fencers today who are not only very good but also Fence beautifully.

In his book Brian begins, in part one, with the basic history of fencing the aim of the game the rules and conventions and some basic warm up exercices, part two is about the Foil and part three and four are about the Epee and the Sabre.

He covers the footwork the attacks and defences and the strategy of the game and the book is full of good advice about, not only how to get a good technique but also how to use it that technique in an efficient manner, in other words how to Fence well.

My version of the book is from 1993 and some of the rules have changed (it changes almost every year) but the rest is still up to date and relevant.

I have not seen a better book about Fencing so far

We just used this book to help us plan our wedding and it was very helpful. It was easy to read, practical and had some GREAT ideas!

A nice overview of how to plan your wedding.......2005-09-10

I have only read half of this book so far, but it has had quite a few tidbits on ettiquette that I didn't know and lots of great suggestions on how to do different things for your wedding. It is very readable and it gets to the point. It also has many worksheets and checklists to help you keep organized.

I would recommend this as a nice book to cover the basics of planning a wedding!

Don't bother.......2005-07-01

This was one of the first books I bought for weddings because I thought it would give me a general overview. It's also one of the books I refer to the least. I wasn't ready for a planner at the time since I was still figuring out my wedding, but in retrospect, I wish I'd just done that.

There is some interesting background about certain traditions, e.g. the meaning of the wedding ring, but not enough for those really craving that kind of content.

I think the usefulness of this book is summed up in the beginning where they have the "Top Ten Utterances of the Brides Who Didn't Consult This Book." It includes things like "What do you mean I should have registered?" or "Thanks for Coming to My Shower, sorry I can't invite you to the wedding." If you're a total newbie without any basis in etiquette, or if you've actually never been to a wedding and are really starting from scratch, this book is for you. If it never occurred to you to make a budget, or if you want a list of suggestions for your first dance that includes suggestions by 98 Degrees, Shania Twain and Kelly Clarkson, go for it.

But if you have even a vague sense of what you want, skip this and buy yourself a planner that will help you get an idea of what to look for, what to ask vendors and will help you keep track of contracts and business cards. I bought the Martha Stewart Keepsake Planner and have used it much more than this book.

A key aspect of globalisation, glocalisation and transnationalisation is the development of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Such technologies have major implications for sexualities and sexualised violences, and raise profound implications, contradictions and challenges for sexual citizenship. These implications include the affirmation of sexual citizenship, with the creation of new forms of sexual communities; and the denial of sexual citizenship, with the production of new opportunities for pornography, prostitution, sexual exploitation and sexual violences. The article goes on to focus particularly on the contradictory implications of ICTs for sexual citizenship. These include the simultaneous development of more democratic and diverse sexual communities, and sexual work and sexually violent work; movements beyond the exploiter/exploited dichotomy; complex relations of non-exploitative and sexual exploitation, commercialisation of sex, and enforcement of dominant sexual practices; blurring of the social, sexual-social, sexual and sexually violent, and of the sexually 'real' and sexually 'representational'; closer association of sex with the 'visual' and the 'representational'; increasing domination of the virtual as the mode(l) for non-virtual, proximate sociality, and possible impacts of the virtual on increased non-virtual, proximate sociality, even greater possibilities for 'pure relationships'; shifts in sexual space and sexual place; development of new forms of transnational sexual citizenship, within shifting transpatriarchies. Contradictions between the scale of global material sex economies and the representation and reproduction of the sexual through ICTs appear to be increasing.
