This is a fascinating book, completely walking step-by-step through all of von Frisch's experiments. It describes his methods for finding out if and how bees react to different things such as size, shape, color, and distance. It also explains the differences in the bee races and their benefits when hybridized. It is amazing to read about how someone watched this communication, previously unknown, completely unfold into the world of bees where polarized light is your guide, and your dances tell the hive how far away their flowers are, or water, and how good of a source it is.

This book unveils a marvelous language between animals. After reading it you can not any more smash a bee!

The content of the discovery is impressive : one bee can tell her colleague that there is food at 1 300 meters in the North-West direction... Animals can talk using a symbolic language and we know their words.

The thorough methodology used by Karl van Frisch and his students is very impressive as well. No place is left for doubt. 20 years of experiments are described with a German luxury of details. This is a scientific lesson in those time where we do not accept response time exceeding 2 seconds when browsing the web desperatly looking for information.

This is the first atlas to preset the golden hamster brain in stereotaxic coordinates. The authors use the brain of an adult male golden hamster, the most widely utilized hamster in neuroscience research. The brains of two different hamsters are used. The first brain is sectioned and stained, using cresyl violet, acetylcholinesterase, Sudan black, and NADPH-diaphorase. The second brain is stained using cresyl violet, luxol fast blue, serotonin immunoreactivity, and GABA/benzodiazepine receptor immunoreactivity.

The book is informative. I found I didn't get a chance to use a lot of the information though. What you're going to do is what your wife and daughter tell you do. The best thing you can do is keep reminding them not to spend to much money. They still will, but at least you got to give your input. Prepare for the big day by thinking of what you are going to say to your daughter, before you walk her down the aisle, When you give her away and during the father/daughter dance. This is a good book. It does prepare for the things your wife and daughter want you to do.

Holy Moly, any bride-to-be with a clueless dad (or one who is pretending to be clueless, anyway) needs to buy this book. It covers anything and everything that he needs to know -- so that he can't plead ignorance during the planning and the actual ceremony and reception.

One of the minor miracles of art history is the extraordinary flowering of Indian painting that began in the mid-sixteenth century under the early Mughal emperors of Indian, notably Akbar the Great.

Only in recent decades has the consummate artistry of early Mughal painting come to be widely appreciated in the West. Scholars have noted the innovations--departures from both Islamic and native Indian tradition--of the new, highly distinctive school of painting, among them natural history studies, a concern for portraiture, and the documentation of contemporary court events.

Milo Beach traces, with an abundance of captivating illustrations, the evolution of the Mughal style. While acknowledging the influence of Akbar's interests and changing tastes (related in turn to historical and biographical circumstances), he shows that many of the new tendencies were evident during the short reign of Akbar's father, the Emperor Humayun, whose role as patron of the arts is thereby reassessed. Beach also stresses the traditionalism of the individual painters, who only gradually changed their concepts and compositions in response to foreign influences and to imperial taste. Mughal art, he affirms, can no longer be regarded as simply a reflection of its imperial patrons.

The book takes account of recently discovered material and reproduces for the first time important paintings from unpublished manuscripts and albums. It will appeal to the general reader as well as the scholar.
