This is a reference book for contests. I wish I had purchased it earlier and used the information to enter DRF/NTRA contests. If you are interested in participating in contests this is a must. Mr. Michaels should have an inexpensive way (web site?) of updating his readers annualy or as needed regarding contests. I don't see any reason future contest "books" need to be priced over $10.

I am a 2nd year psychiatry resident, and in that developmental period when differential diagnosis starts to become a real tool in your armamentarium. The book is informative and concise. The introductions to, and discussions of the various psychiatric symptoms are very informative and helpful. They are like having an experienced psychiatrist as your personal tutor. It leaves you wishing the discussions were much longer. The first chapter, which discusses the six diagnostic areas that should not be missed in a psychiatric workup, is a MUST READ for every psychiatry resident, and quite frankly, every resident/medical student regardless of the specialty. It is spot-on and uncanny in its accuracy, and will help make almost immediate sense of nearly ANY psychiatric patient. My diagnostic abilities increased dramatically after reading that chapter. Well worth the money, I highly recommend this book.

There must be dozens of books on how to draw comics, but even the best artists need to tell a good story. Who can teach them? Dennis O'Neil. good, but limited in scope.......2007-08-31

I read this book because I'm interested in making comic books for fun, and while there was a lot of good stuff here and it was easy to read, there was a lot more that I would have liked to see covered. O'Neil limited his instruction to the traditional super-hero style comic book with lots of action and so forth. While I learned some valuable things about writing, especially from the examples of comic scripts shown in the book, a person like me who'se more interrested in graphic-novel style literature is going to have to go elsewhere for further instruction and advice.

I thought the book was very informative, provided excellent examples, and gave great tips on writing. Many of the writing tips could probably also crossover into other mediums as well. In addition, the book is actually fun to read. If you are thinking about scripting your comic idea, read this book.

Whether you write comic books or novels, there are powerful nuggets on the writing process that if applied, you will experience growth in your craft. The book is well organized, easy to read, and easier to digest. This book is a more than a "must read"... it's a "MUST OWN" for ANY writer.

Best book on writing I've ever read........2006-01-04

I've read about a dozen books on writing and screenwriting, and most have been very helpful, especially J. Michael Straczynski's "The Complete Book of Screenwriting." None of them, however, have just laid it all out like Dennis O'Neil's book. While Straczynski's tome can tell you everything you night ever want to know, O'Neil's book tells what you what you MUST know, and very clearly lays out the basics, without which your story will not work. It's short - and half illustrations at that - but insightful and concise.

It is written specifically for the fast-paced, melodramatic writing style of comics, especially action comics, but it's lessons are useful in any story.

I especially like that it is not about teaching you how to write, but about utilizing tools that will clarify your writing, or help to get you out of a bind.

Many of the authors' examples are a decade or so old. The theory and implications in the light of new findings have not been updated in over a decade. Tie into this a lack-lustre style and you have a book you can safely leave out of consideration -- except it seems in Knoxville, TN, where the authors teach (and the students buy?)

Description:
Our model is a multi-sectoral version of Romer's variety expansion model that reveals the presense of industrial hollowing-out. The basic idea of the model is similar to that of Lucas [Lucas, Robert E., Jr. 1993, ''Making a Miracle.'' Econometrica 61, p. 273-302.]. An increase in (external) social experience capital through learning by doing raises labor productivity. It also increases the social capacity to adopt more technology-intensive goods. The model provides the following implications: First, even though the economic growth of China raises the exports of low-level technology goods from neighboring countries to China in the short run, this can lower their future growth potential by lowering the accumulation of social experience capital. Second, without increasing social capacity to adopt more technology-intensive goods, those countries can experience industrial hollowing-out, lower equilibrium wage rates, and a higher unemployment rate. Third, as with conclusions garnered by standard geography models, both a huge market size and very low-level wages in China imply a continuation of discontinuous and lumpy loss of jobs and sectors. In this context, various policies to raise social capacity, besides retraining programs and unemployment safety nets, should be provided by the government to avoid industrial hollowing-out and to allocate labor efficiently.
