Understanding complexity.......2003-07-30
The main paradox? Complexity vs. simplicity. The truly complex phenomena observed in organizational change are the complex results of simple principles. The book opens with a story about a wise lady, a child, and a kaleidoscope. The child peers into the kaleidoscope and sees a vivid, bright, and complex pattern. Turning the kaleidoscope again and again, she sees many different patterns. She marvels, the wise lady explains that simplicity can generate complexity.
Dr. Malott draws on her own experience as a consultant and Executive Director of the International Association for Behavior Analysis to show, again and again, how simple principles of behavioral systems analysis yield complex patterns of organizational performance. She even "takes the kaleidoscope apart" to show details of how she works her magic of understanding and managing complexity.
The kaleidoscope story, a folk tale, is delightfully told. The lessons one can learn from it are worth the price of the book--even if one does not read past the first chapter! But reading beyond the first chapter is amply rewarded with detailed and practical insights about organizational change. The clarity and sophistication of the book illustrates why Dr. Malott is widely recognized as one of the rising stars in her profession.

Book Description
BACTERIAL ADHESION Molecular and Ecological Diversity Edited by Madilyn Fletcher
Over the last twenty years, research has revealed the enormous complexity underlying the phenomenon of bacterial adhesion. The initial research goal was to understand the mechanism of attachment and its effects on the bacteria as well as the host. As research progressed, however, it became evident that many different attachment mechanisms exist. These diverse forms of adhesion are the results of numerous evolutionary pressures, and each may be part of a larger behavioral strategy.
This comprehensive overview details how diversity in habitat and ecological requirements has led to enormous variety in adhesive cell components, underlying genetic determinants, and behavioral strategies. It presents the latest research on adhesion mechanisms and strategies found in diverse environments and microorganisms, including the new environment of biomaterials.
Bacterial Adhesion: Molecular and Ecological Diversity examines adhesion as a strategy for nutrient access and as a phase in the complex behavior of life cycle processes. It covers the latest research and innovative approaches in the field, including:
- Conceptual advances in research on the adhesion of bacteria to oral surfaces
- Enhancing colonization in a fluctuating environment
- The cellulosome: a cell-surface organelle for the adhesion to and degradation of cellulose
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa—versatile attachment mechanisms
- Sensing, response, and adaptation to surfaces
- Myxococcus coadhesion and role in the life cycle
Edited by a leading authority on bacterial adhesion and featuring contributions from the field's leading experts, this book speaks to researchers in all areas of microbiology, biotechnology, environmental technology, and environmental science, as well as urology, immunology, and infectious diseases.
Bacterial Adhesion: Molecular and Ecological Diversity is the latest addition to the Wiley Series in Ecological and Applied Microbiology. Recent books in the series include:
- Microbial Transformation and Degradation of Toxic Organic Chemicals edited by Lily Y. Young and Carl E. Cerniglia
- Wastewater Microbiology by Gabriel Bitton
- Environmental Microbiology edited by Ralph Mitchell
- Biotechnology in Plant Disease Control edited by Ilan Chet
- Antarctic Microbiology edited by E. Imre Friedmann

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2004-04-10
The revised edition is excellent. Other than a few things that are out of date (e.g., charging is less effective now with semi-automatic markets than it was then with pumps), everything else is current and excellent advice for paintballers. Certainly worth the price of a couple hundred paintballs, for sure. Make sure to read this one and pass it on to your team.
Old, but still fun to read........2000-12-12
OK so it is really out dated, but I enjoyed reading it. It's not something that would get you ready for your next big tournament, but it has some great "rec ball" scenarios.
I enjoyed it.......2000-10-28
I enjoyed this book a lot. Sure it's a little outdated, but paintball ain't that complicated, folks, and this book explains the basics clearly. It also provides some good ideas for non-Capture the Flag games and general team motivation and strategies. I definitely recommend it.
Old but Interesting.......2000-05-03
Don't get this book if you are looking to improve your game. "The Complete Guide to Paintball" is for that. This book is mainly interesting because it is an artifact from long times ago (10 years or so). Following the advice in this book will get you hurt, so please don't. But if you are wondering how the game was once played, and what made it, arguably, more fun then today, give it a look. It also has some very nice diagrams about flanking and field of fire.
too dang old.......2000-03-07
everything in theis book is outdated. taticts, EQ, safty EQ, games, all too dang old
Customer Reviews:
People who apprecite it will love it........2004-02-25
I think that the idots who criticise this book are just not fully appreciateing it. In today's world of Angel's and Autococker's with Halo B's, and games of speedball that use 20,000 rounds(no joke that is an actual amount from a recent NPPL tournie), it is nice to look back to a simpler time, where a 48 round WGP loader or a 10 round feed tube was completly acceptible. The people who wrote the scathing review's are either n00b slayer's with 1500 dollar Angel's who think that anything that shoots under 17 BPS is unacceptable, or they are ungrateful idiots who don't give a crap about what actually built this sport. It takes much more skill to "snipe", not quite the right word, with a VSC Phantom than it does to dump a case of paint down field with a Angel. I reccomend this book to any new players who want to learn the basic skills it takes to suceed in paintball, or old school players. A great read for all appreciative paintballers.
Paintball, the Wizard's Way: The Authoritative Book on Paint.......2002-12-02
One of the best paintball refrences from yesteryear. This stroll down memory lane is still packed with exelent information for the beginning or occasional recerational player (the tournament level stuff is so outdated as to be funny however.) Some of the equipment mentioned (SMG-60's for example) are not availible any more, but the basic information of action types, and their advantages still holds true.
Enjoy the refrence, then get out to your local fields and enjoy the game... keep it safe, and Goggles On!And perhaps I'll see you there.
worth it.......2002-03-20
This book is worth reading no matter if you are new to the sport or very experienced. Someone previously mentioned that this book tells you bad tips, it does not. He said that snipeing is a waste of time, but most paintballers know that you dont really snipe on a SPEEDBALL FIELD! This book gave me some better tactics to be a sniper but you cant just decide to be one over night you have to practice like the guy who bad mouthed the book before did not. If you want to try snipeing read this book and practice a little on some wooded fields and you will find that it is much more efficent than wasteing 1,000 rounds every five minutes on a speed ball field, this book tells you some tips on how to do so.
DONT BUY THIS.......2001-09-28
If you are a serious paintballer, your not going to hide out in the woods alone as he describes in the book, your going to work with your team. Sniping might be good for 1 or 2 tags, but in speedball, you have no chance. Sniping is the worst possible strategy you can use. Take my advice, im a tournament paintballer I know. Try it sometime, you get killed fast....
About the book........2001-06-14
This book is out dated but still have some good ideas for the new players. It is a good book if you are just starting to get into the game. The book is mostly about being a sniper on the paintball field. It has some good strategy for new and old players but some of the equipment that he talks about is old. I found the book vary interresting for a out dated book.

A good beginning.......2004-07-08
This book gives to the student a good beginnig in the real american literature. Authors as Ernest Hemmingway, Langston Hughes, O. Henry, Ray Bradbury, and others brings a representative way to understand the litarature.
Other point of this book is the grammar section, that helps the student.
Book Description
The follow-up title to the hit title Drawing Cutting Edge Comics, which has been translated into seven languages, this drawing tutorial shows artists how to draw the exaggerated musculature of super-sized figures in action poses. The guesswork is taken out of figuring out which muscles show through to the surface and how muscles appear through clothing. This instructional manual even gives both the Latin and the common terms for particular body parts such as scapula/shoulder blade. Hart covers all aspects of extreme anatomy. The book opens by providing detailed diagrams of all of the various muscle groups, including chest, back, shoulder, arm, and leg muscles. Then he covers many of the various extreme comic book types including good guy, bad guy, insane guy, punk, genius, and brute for men; and the heroine, bad gal, trashy gal, seductress, fighter babe, and cyber chick for women. As an added bonus, this book closes with two invaluable sections to all aspiring comic book artists. One provides a roadmap of all the steps an artist must take if he or she is going to get started in the comic book business, and advice on how the comic book business works. The second section features interviews with people from two of the most significant companies in the world of comics, Marvel Comics and Dark Horse Comics.
Customer Reviews:
Really and Truly a Must-Have for the Aspiring Artist.......2007-10-14
This is probably among the top five of Christopher Hart's "How to Draw" books I own. If you're looking for a way to render anatomy in a good style - after having learned the basics, of course - then this is certainly the book for you.
"Drawing Cutting Edge Anatomy" offers a number of exceptionally helpful sections for the artist; be warned however - as is the nature of books of this type, some sections will be wildly helpful, while others you'll just pass by. The most helpful:
1) Early on, some helpful full-body schematics are rovided for both heroic male and female figures' musculature.
2) There is a helpful page on vein placement
3) The chapter on the Head and Neck (especially regarding the rendering of female characters' faces)
4) The chapter on the Chest adn Abs
5) The chapter on The Pelvis, Legs and Feet (especially on the legs).
Unfortunately, the secions on the arms and hand are not especially helpful (owing mostly to the artist who provide the illustrations).
Overall, however, a great book and a worthy addition to any beginning artist's bookshelf. Enjoy!
Nothing useful at all........2007-10-03
This is really a boring book. It does not tell you anything about how to draw the human body at all. No depth, no advice on how large a figure should be, or perception. There is nothing here at all.
Great Book.......2007-09-29
This is a great reference book. I really like it, BUT for any really REALLY serious people who wish to really improve their drawings, Riven Pheonix "Drawing the Human Figure From Your Mind" lessons are key (google it). It shows you how to draw the whole skeleton - from your mind. Then the muscles - from your mind. The fruits are astounding. I completed all 227 lessons and must admit that reference books are much more helpful when you actually LEARN how EXACTLY mucles and bones look the way they look on people.
Great buy, Well worth the Money.......2007-09-18
I'm a beginner to drawing in general but the descriptions and pictures presented make reproducing presented information/techniques easy
Amazing book - totally recommended for any and all artists.......2007-08-24
For starters, this is written by Christopher Hart, so it's probably one of your best options if you are interested in the subject of the book...
This is great for learning how muscle groups work, since it focuses on different parts of the body for both men and women, and how the skeleton structure is set up, not only in general, but in different positions, explaining how muscles move with the different poses, and which ones 'pop' depending on the pose. It's a great book for any beginning artist to start getting a sense of how the body is put together, and great for more advanced artists to make their pictures more and more realistic. Also gives great ideas for characters.
A great buy even if you are not overly enthusiastic about the graphic novel; if you love drawing, you'll love this book!
