Book Description
In the 21st century, intangible resources such as knowledge and social capital have become as necessary to the modern economy as coal, diamonds, and oil were to the past. This shift from product-focused to service-focused economies necessitates a drastic re-thinking of the ways in which we support the mission and business of economic development on a global, regional, and national scale. In order to effect and sustain a positive change, innovation and knowledge networks need to be connected to every aspect of life, from the private and domestic, to the corporate and the global. This book integrates a wide variety of perspectives and treatises on mutually adaptive and complementary processes of knowledge generation, diffusion, and transfer within organizations and industry, addressing both the "what" and "how to" questions of knowledge management in a conceptual as well as an applied manner. It should be of strong interest to science and technology policy makers, research and development managers, business decision makers, and students of innovation and knowledge dynamics alike.

Book Description
AIDS (autoimmune deficiency syndrome) is a devastating human disease caused by HIV, a human immunodeficiency virus, which may be transmitted by either sexual or other contacts in which body fluids are exchanged. Cases of AIDS have been reported in a majority of countries throughout the world, indicating that the HIV/AIDS epidemic is international in scope.
This book deals with the mathematical and statistical techniques underlying the models used to understand the population dynamics of not only HIV/AIDS but also other infectious diseases. Attention is given to the development strategies for the prevention and control of the international epidemic within the frameworks of the models. Two distinguishing features of the book are the incorporation of stochastic and deterministic formulations within a unifying conceptual framework and the discussion of issues related to the mathematical designs of models, which are necessary for the rigorous utilization of computer-intensive methods. The book will be of value to applied mathematicians, biomathematicians, biostatisticians, epidemiologists and other scientists interested in applying mathematics and computers to not only the HIV/AIDS epidemic but also other fields of epidemiology.

not for the beginner.......2007-09-23
I knew a little about football to begin with so the first part of the book was helpful, but the rest of the book got too technical, completely lost me. If you know nothing of the game the first part might even be a challenge.
Even worse than 'Dummie' Howie Long's book, Pro Football for Dummies.......2007-06-13
The One sentence in this book that proves
Thiesmann has become an idiot and dummie
is the one "Anybody who thinks the NFL
isn't the best Football League out there
is an idiot." - Joe Thiesmann. No wonder
they fired Mr broken leg from Monday night
Football and replaced him with Jaws Jaworski!
The Best Football League out there is (take
your pick, the Arena Football League of the
CFL. The NFL sucks now! And Thiesmann star-
ted in the CFL! And Tom Robinson of the
VirginiaN Pilot with his recent a**licking
Pro-NFL piece is an idiot too. Bleep the
NFL!
Great Book.......2006-03-24
I love football and i know some things about this sport, but this guide gives you a complete step by step explanation.
Great for all fans
Good for football culture, kinda weak and jargony on actual rules.......2005-08-20
I like the straightforwardness of the writing, and the insight into the appeal of the game. Alas, if you're an outsider hoping to learn the game from scratch, you're going to have a lot of trouble--after teaching you rudimentary terms, the writers start describing the game as if you've been watching it all your life, tossing barely-introduced jargon around all over the place. I was really disappointed that the one aspect of the game I was most interested in (the actual GAME) was so poorly rendered.
You will know football even though you are not an American.......2005-01-30
I'm a Chinese girl and never watched any American football games in Hong Kong until I married to an American and moved to United States one and half years ago. He is a football fan and he keeps track his team every day, not to mention especially during the regular season every Sunday.
I started to watch football games with him, and I liked it a lot. Now, I understand why so many American like football. I asked many questions while I was watching the game, because I wanted to understand it more. Therefore, I read this book last year and it gave me a lot of basic information in an easy way. More interesting is the book gives many statistics and facts that I was impressed by the football business. Anyone has no idea about football, this book can help.
Now, my husband was surprised that I knew football so well and we discussed football a lot during the regular season this year. This book helps us to have more conversation topics.

He, She, It.......2005-12-29
I bought this book because I haven't played soccer since I was a kid so I had some catching up to do. The book is very easy to follow and understand though the writer was constantly referring to the reader as "she" which I found to be both annoying and distracting.
Needs a referee reviewer.......2001-07-21
A review by a referee would have caught several mistakes in certain "legalities"...
She says "The end lines are also sometimes referred to as goal lines..." The actual name of that line is the goal line. She says the lines on the sides of the field are "called sidelines (although they are sometimes referred to as touchlines)". The actual name of that line is the touchline.
The correct names of the lines of the field are to be found in the FIFA "Laws of the Game" (the rules that govern soccer worldwide). If you want to play the game, learn to use the correct terminology of the game.
She says the height of the corner flags is a maximum of 5 feet. It's supposed to be a "minimum" of 5 feet. It's a safety issue...you don't want a player stabbing himself on a short flag.
Her explanation of the important Offside law is incorrect. To begin with, the name of the infraction is "offside" (there is no "s" at the end). What she says states as the offside rule is actually the definition of "offside position," which is not illegal. There's no discussion of "offside position" and "participation". There's no mention of at what point the offside judgement is made or of the exceptions to the offside law.

Need a soccer book - this is definitely the one.......2000-08-24
As a former collegiate soccer player, a current adult player trying to recapture her youth, and a person working in the sports industry, I have recommended this book to everyone trying to get a grasp on the game. Yes, it's more than just a ball and a couple of goals.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, any age, who wants to learn more about the game. It's especially good for the growing number of soccer parents. As for that other reviewer - I totally disagree with the assessment, with one exception. The author was completely accurate with the offsides description -- whoever drew one of the diagrams clearly missed out on the author's lesson. Other than that, the book was great.
The Perfect Guide to Soccer!.......1999-11-28
I read this outstanding book before embarking on my first soccer coaching experience. Although I played competitive soccer for twelve years, I thought I should get updates on any changes as well as get some coaching tips. This book was perfect! It's extremely well written, accurate, and informative. In addition, the layout is easy to navigate, and the glossary and index make finding answers to questions a breeze. I would recommend this book to a wide variety of people, from coaches, to players, to soccer moms, to soccer trivia fans. A great book!
RIGHT right right right right!.......1999-11-17
As a new youth soccer coach, I was looking for a book that would give me quick and easy guidance on understanding soccer and also give me some excellent tips on coaching. This book was perfect! It provided a tremendous amount of information without getting too detailed in any specific area. The book begins with the basics and then takes you through the rules, formations, and strategies. It then provides wonderful information for coaches and parents by discussing training, drills, and ways to run a successful practice. As an athlete, I have read many books on the teaching of sports and this is one of the best. The author injects humor and quick fun facts throughout to keep it very interesting. If you are a new soccer coach, a parent of a child playing soccer, or just want to learn about soccer, this book is excellent. As for the review from the reader from Canada, he is not accurate. Remember, except for hockey, Canada has a dreadful reputation in sports - soccer included.

Book Description
An Olympic coach tells how to lead the team to victory.
This is the first and best handbook for mastering both the "soft" conceptual skills of coaching youth soccer-such as good sportsmanship and dealing with parents-to the tactical skills of executing winning offensive and defensive strategies.
Customer Reviews:
Not for Youth Soccer.......2006-07-22
Very disappointed by this book. More than half is filler with agonizing repetition and exposition to create paragraphs and pages out of straightforward and self-explanatory concepts. I realize the series is for "idiots," but I believe perhaps it's really aimed at the curious, frustrated, and inexperienced, not the truly mentally deficient. The authors continually fail to address how different a job soccer coaching is for coaches of five year olds versus coaches of fifteen year olds, and they seem to only understand the latter. Very little space is devoted to the rules of the game or how to convey them to young children so they (both children and coaches) can enjoy the game. For example, the word "Substitution" is not even in the index, and the rules for when a coach can substitute players is not covered in the text. This is one of the many "simple" elements of the game with which most youth soccer coaches new to the game need guidance. On the other hand, too much space is devoted to field concepts too advanced for players under ten years of age. Trying to implement them with young children will only frustrate coaches and players. Little attention is given to practical ways to make the game fun and keep it safe, to coaching sportsmanship, or to keeping young children involved so that they will stay with soccer long enough to be well prepared for more advance play as a teenager.

A Necessity for the Midwestern Archeologist.......2003-12-17
Justice's "Stone Age Spear and Arrow Points" is a must have for anyone interested in Midwestern prehistoric lithic technology. A number of localized and somewhat regional typology books are available, but none attempts such a widespread regional synthesis. Two primary features make Justice the best point book available. The first is his use of the point cluster concept. Instead recognizing each individual point type name as a scientifically valid and culturally meaningful category (like Perino), Justice groups points by clusters of points exhibiting close morphological affinities. He then lists all those other named variants as "morphological correlates" so that they may still be referenced by looking them up in the index.
The second benefit of this book is the fact that it is profusely illustrated, with most point types being represented by multiple drawings and some by color photographs. This aids the archeologist and collector in that it illustrates the range of variation included in each point type category.
The only fault of this book is that it has been abused by some who consider it the final word in point type ranges. This is due to the fact that Justice provides maps of the known distribution of each of the point types in the Midwest. These maps, although helpful, are necessarily incomplete in that they only contain information available up the the date of the book's publication. Science is variable; distributions change. If one keeps this in mind, there will be no problems.
In all, therefore, this book is great for all and a necessity for the archeologist and serious collector.
great book.......2001-01-10
This is the best point typology book I have come across.I disagree with the assertion that the scope of this book is limited to late archaic and woodland cultures,as it is clearly evident that paleo and other archaic forms are described.Especially good for chronometric associations and cultural affiliations,as well as developmental histories of point types.
Gratifying Results.......2000-05-19
Justice's monumental work is a boone for anyone interested in the relationships of projectile points throughtout the East/Midwest Regions. Justice outlines each projectile point by its morphological and chronological characteristics. Justice relates each point within a regional framework to other typologically and temporally similar points. Bibliographic information is given for each type and cluster. This book is a must for anyone interested in the use of projectile points as chronolgical markers. The book's main fault is it is only applicable through the late archaic/woodland period. It is, however, extremely thorough in the periods it does cover.
