For organizational and personal change to happen and be sustainable, there must first be a system of thought balanced against action. Williams and his concept of "congruence" provide an alternative to the often chaotic, unbalanced ways in which change is currently understood and its accomplishment attempted. He challenges the organizational model of compartmentalized structures, offers a persuasive refutation of the fashionable paradigm of organizational transformation (one based on dominance and control), and argues a provocative notion that innovation is actually the successful result of reworking what has not worked before. A new look at the processes that create organizational movement, Williams' latest book is a guide for leaders, managers, consultants, and corporate practitioners, and a new way for students, teachers, and researchers to rethink the entire change process. A POWERFUL EXPLORATION OF HUMAN ORGANZIATION!.......2005-05-20

The author, an organizational psychologist, consultant, and professor, states that the challenge in this book is to explore a concept of congruence relating to effective organizational and managerial performance.

This is a book about organization, business options and strategies, and innovation, but the overarching theme is congruence. Williams points out that people spend 78% of their lives within organizations and this reality makes clear the need for a sound conceptual base for the integration of people and systems.

This book focuses on a body of knowledge that balances and requires the bringing together of many disciplines to create a theory of congruence and transformation (of both organization and the individual).

It is a treasure trove of knowledge and insights, bound to inform, stimulate, and delight anyone who seeks a multidimensional understanding of human organization. Open to any page and you are likely to become absorbed in the rich content that Williams presents.

The book is deep and rich with substance. It is sure to appeal to those of who are always hunting for those hard-to-find books that go below the surface of facile bullet-points or 'how-to' steps, with little or no mention or concern for the 'why's' or context. As a organization consultant (FutureOrganization.com) I was quickly drawn into this book. I found this book packed with first-rate thinking, cover-to-cover. Very highly recommended.

This manual is a great starter. It has general information about all aspects of fishing, fresh water and salt, spinning casting and trolling, even fly fishing.
However it left me a little uninformed with specifics for certain regions and technique. Which I cannot totally agree with as a "Comlete" book of rigs and tackle.
It is however a great purchase for the fisherman who is just getting started or for a gift for that aspiring fisherman who needs or desires information on a wide variety of setups and general techniques.
I would give it 5 star review as an aforementioned gift or purchse in that case.

I expected more information about particular species and their habits and what rigs to use. The book was VERY general. Good for a beginner but lacking detail in what others beyond this level might want. It has a thorough explanation about knots.

Easy to read and very informative. It will give you the insight and knowledge to make sure your rig holds up once you've gotten the fish to bite. This book goes into detail on everything from hook sizes to which rigs could be vulnerable to sharp teeth. I would recommend this book to any fisherman.

This is a good beginner's guide to many types of fishing. It covers many different topics. These include: types of gear, types of line, lures, knots, rigging methods, and accessories. Instructions on technique are clear and illustrated by simple drawings. I found the section on leader types and rigs to be very helpful. While this book certainly won't make you an expert on any one type of fishing it would certainly help you get a start in just about any of them. I think it would be a useful reference to even the most experienced of anglers.

For the price it would be very hard to beat.

This is another "general" treatise on fishing tackle. I think books such as this and ones such as "Hook, Line and Sinker" tend to be of little help to someone interested in a particular type of fishing. Books that attempt to cover all bases in fishing, in my opinion, end up missing the ball altogether. If this author wrote about cars, he'd cover everything from the family mini-van to Indy race cars. No real help to someone looking for specific information on a pick-up truck. Best to stick to narrow subject such as "fly fishing" or "saltwater fishing", as there is a world of individualized information in each type of fishing.

I got this book to learn more about the more boring types of fishing tackle, hooks, sinkers, rigs, etc. I wasn't expecting it to be so interesting! Author explains some common mistakes and myths about fishing tackle usage. This book would probably would only be this interesting to a fisherman, but sometimes I have a hard time putting it down. My only qualm with the book is that the line drawings could be a little better (i.e. the spinner blades drawing). And this is a BIG book, you really get your money's worth!

Necessary for students of Tibetan.......2004-07-08

This book is invaluable and necessary for students of modern Tibetan. For those like 'iasa' in Aspen, it is useless simply because what they need is an English-Tibetan dictionary! Anyone obtuse enough not to know the difference shouldn't be surprised to find that they can't read Tibetan unless they know the script and the basics of spelling.

The Best Available...BY FAR.......2003-06-15

This dictionary is undoubtedly the best out there for modern literary and colloquial Tibetan. It is excellent for political, literary, and colloquial terminology. Of course, the depth of these genres comes at the expense of (non-basic) religious/philosophical terminology. But anyone who is in the market to buy this book would have known this about the dictionary and Goldstein's expertise already.

Since the majority of Tibetan-English dictionaries are "Dharma" oriented anyway, this dictionary is a welcomed and needed departure from the norm. Moreover, whereas virtually every widely available "Dharma" dictionary is put together by a pseudo-scholar, and is full of laughably incorrect glosses/definitions for a high percentage of terms, this dictionary -- compiled by a genuine scholar of Tibetan -- rarely has off the mark definitions.

An Obtuse Approach.......2002-05-13

This "Dictionary" might be useful to someone who already knows written Tibetan but it is almost useless for those who do not. For example: If you wish to look up a certain Tibetan word, say, "Trungpa" to discover it's English meaning you will find that everything is ordered according to the Tibetan alphabet in the Tibetan alphabet. I still have not found Trungpa or any other word I was looking for, for that matter.

The authors have committed a serious error in my opinion and have created what might be called an archetypal example of scholarly myopia. Most of us do not wish to become Lotsawas (Translators). Most of us wish to be able to look up an Englsh tranliteration of a Tibetan word and discover it's meaning.

The creators of this book should look up the word Bodhisattva in a Sanskrit Dictionary. Then they should create an English-Tibetan counterpart for this work which would demonstrate compassion towards those of us who have no intent of becoming Lotsawas.

If you already have a handle on written Tibetan then this "Dictionary" is probably just great, but for the rest of us it is just a huge waste of time.

Indispensable, regardless of editorial shortcomings.......2001-06-30

I have used Goldstein's new dictionary every day since I bought it from the Amazon. It is undoubtedly the most up-to-date Tibetan dictionary ever published that covers well both the written language as well as the spoken language of the central dialect. However, the publishers seem to have been too much in a hurry, if they had taken a few more months, the result would have been perfect. Some of the cross-references tell you to look the word up under another listing, and if you do it, they tell you to get back to the first one. Sometimes the referred listing is missing altogether! It would have been useful if they had given more Sanskrit equivalents for Buddhist terms as the English translations vary. Regardless of these annoying trivia, the dictionary is indispensable for reading Tibetan newspapers and other materials published after 1950. Numerous illustrative sentences make it easier to understand the meanings. In short, its main strength lies in the modern everyday language (for Buddhist texts you will need a more specialised dictionary). Its coverage is so impressive that the Chinese Minorities Publishing House put indefenetely off the publication of its own dictionary which was due later this year. For any serious student of modern Tibetan: get it, you are going to need it.
