In recent years, innovative texts in mathematics, science, foreign languages, and other fields have achieved dramatic pedagogical gains by abandoning the traditional encyclopedic approach in favor of attempting to teach a short list of core principles in depth. Two well-respected writers and researchers, Bob Frank and Ben Bernanke, have shown that the less-is-more approach affords similar gains in introductory economics. Although recent editions of a few other texts have paid lip service to this new approach, Frank/Bernanke is by far the best thought out and best executed principles text in this mold. Avoiding excessive reliance on formal mathematical derivations, it presents concepts intuitively through examples drawn from familiar contexts. This textbook is brilliant...The authors write concepts that take other authors thousands of words to explain in less than a paragraph...I have taught economics for seven years and thought I'd never buy another intro book again...This book is like a murder mystery that you can't put down...
Microeconomics is Fun Again.......2005-10-07
This book is great! Would give it a 100 stars if they had it. It breaks down all these economic concepts that you are having trouble with into simple, basic ideas that you can relate to. It uses clear, everyday examples and discusses everything in such a conversational sense, you won't even remember you are doing MicroEcon. So this may come across to some as the book being written for high schoolers ( I personally didn't feel that way and I am an MBA), but isn't the whole objective to understand the material in the most basic sense, so you can remember and apply it?
I read every chapter and skipped none.
I was privileged to be a student of Bob Frank and all I can say is, What an extraordinary talent! I am glad that I didn't place out of his class because I considered doing that in the beginning. I cried on the last day of class.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone at any level taking an introductory Microecon class.
An Intuitive Approach.......2004-08-19
This book is elementary. It is intended for high-school and first year uni students who have never had to go near anything even resembling economics before. It seeks to achieve what most texts only say they attempt to do: (a) get you to THINK like an economist, and (b) CONVINCE you that this mode of thought actually makes 'good sense'. Using various stories, real and imaginary, it certainly points the student down path (a). As to whether it does the same with (b) is a trickier question - not least, paradoxically, because of the success of (a); that is, one suspects students might start to get the feeling that they are being hood-winked - "Surely it can't be THAT simple", one can hear them say doubtfully. ...Out of the mouths of babes.

Safe Exercise Routines that Generate Results!.......2007-08-18
I would rate this book and dvd higher if I could! I purchased it to help my 10 year old son develop better strength, speed and agility for football season. He plays center and nose tackle and is a little over 5 feet tall and about 125 lbs. Last year (his first playing tackle football), he didn't have great movement and didn't make many tackles. After going through this program in 6 weeks, he took almost a full second off his 25 yard dash time, added 8 inches to his standing broad jump and 3 inches to his vertical leap.
The system consists of 3 progressive levels of 15 exercises each: bronze, silver and gold. Any child could comfortably start with the bronze level and move on to silver in 2 or 3 weeks. The authors recommend 2 sessions per week with adequate rest between sessions. Each session took us between 30 minutes and an hour to complete, depending on the number of sets used for each exercise. The exercises are thoroughly explained in the book, but you also get the added bonus of the dvd which clearly demonstrates each exercise. My son and I both had fun with the program and will use it again for off season training.

Does not conform to Robert's Rules.......2003-04-28
Beware: This book, besides having typographical errors and no index, does not conform at all (!) to the current edition of Robert's Rules (namely "Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised" tenth edtion, the edition recognized by parliamentarians). The editor or author has added too much mis-information and has mis-defined too many terms for this book to be considered a "condensation" or "summary" of the motions, procedures and terminology of Robert's Rules of Order, of any edition. If your bylaws say that its official parliamentary authority is (some edition of) Robert's Rules of Order, then be aware that "21st Century..." is way too different from Robert's Rules to be useful as a gentle introduction. Instead, the book will lead you to practices that contradict the procedures in Robert's Rules of Order. I would not have minded a book that condenses the older (public domain) editions, and thus LEAVES OUT detail too rarely used, but to ADD new rules and new procedures that contradict Robert's Rules of Order is deceptive, and serves to fool the innocent reader who thinks he is reading a simple introductory text to the real thing. So, beware that the procedures in "21st Century" are the author's or editor's opinions, and not parliamentary law as described in any edition of Robert's Rules. In closing, in my opinion, there are too many bad definitions and too many new (i.e., unsupported) procedures to use the name "Robert's Rules" in its title. If you are looking for an easy-reading paperback that truly conforms to Robert's Rules, without including other non-Robert (contradictory) procedures, "This ain't it, folks!"
Not designed for all groups, more for corporate use.......2001-09-02
I advise a large, successful student government in Florida. I bought a copy of this book for each of my officers without really reading it, and wish I had. While it is good and helpful for explaining the standard rules of order, it doesn't always apply to a setting such as ours. Instead, it is much more useful for board meetings, and corporate business events. It takes a lot of interpretation and ignoring of some items for our use of the book.
Still, it does explain many things of use for all organizations, so if you need something to use, it will work, just be cautious about who you order it for.
Robert's Rules of Order.......2000-02-01
This book was very helpful for me. It kept the meetings in order when in the past the meetings would get out of order. Other People in the meeting now understand the importance of keeping the meetings in order.

New to the Rules of Order I found the book helpful and useful as a quick reference.
Best of three I read for small volunteer Boards of Directors.......1999-09-13
This is more conprehensive than 'Roberts Rules in Plain English' and easier to read than the classic. It is the only one I found that addressed procedures for small Board meetings with less than 12 people. It did have some typos in it, which I hope will be corrected in the next edition.

BURLINGTON MAGAZINE (C.M.Kauffmann)The Bury Bible (Cambridge, Corpus Christi College MS 2) is one of the capital monuments of Romanesque art. Produced at the abbey of Bury St Edmunds in about 1135, its importance was such that the abbey chronicler recorded its commissioning: 'Hervey, the sacrist, commissioned a large Bible for his brother the Prior and had it beautifully illuminated by Master Hugh'. Parchment was specially bought from Scotland for the illuminations. There were originally two volumes; the Old Testament survives, and, with 357 leaves, a format of 514 x 355mm, six full page miniatures, three historiated initials and thirty nine decorated initials, it is an imposing volume. It belongs to a small group of English twelfth-century Bibles of outstanding quality, which includes the Lambeth and Winchester Bibles. It is arguable that Master Hugh was the greatest artist of all those who worked on these books, working in a tradition developed at St Albans abbey and yet a great innovator, bringing a more naturalistic approach. This facsimile, at just under full size, affords the opportunity to appreciate some of the masterpieces of English romanesque painting. All the illuminations are reproduced in colour, from photographs specially taken by the HUMI project of the University of Keio. Professor Thomson provides a full discussion of the manuscript's production and its place among English manuscripts and art, together with photographs of comparable material. R.M.
