Book Description
This book provides a unified and comprehensive analysis of the work of Joseph Alois Schumpeter (1883-1950), the world-famed economist ranked with John Maynard Keynes. Although Schumpeter is well known for his work on economic development and innovation, his aim to construct a universal social science addressing the evolution of mind and society is usually ignored. A major contribution to the history of economic thought, this book will be the standard of Schumpeter scholarship for years to come.

Book Description
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most important pulse crop in Latin America, as well as in large parts of Asia and Africa. It is particularly important due to its ability, in symbiosis with Rhizobium bacteria, to fix atmospheric nitrogen and due to its high nutrient value. Incorporating contributions from plant breeders, microbiologists, plant physiologists and soil scientists, this volume reports the results of an FAO/IAEA Coordinated Research Programme (1985--1991), whose main objective was to enhance yield and biological nitrogen fixation in common bean by reducing its reliance on soil and fertilizer nitrogen. The volume will be invaluable to scientists working on biological nitrogen fixation and legume production.

Good read for 4-9 year olds.......2000-09-17
Walter is a lazy mouse. He is so lazy that he never gets up for school. He doesn't get up until everyone else has left. Finally his family forgets about him and move out, leaving him behind. Walter sets off to find them. He winds up on his own island and makes friends with some frogs. He tries to teach them math and reading, but since he never got up in time for school, he gets most of it wrong. He decides to go back to school and finds his family again. Walter finally learns to be independent and responsible. I liked this book as a child and it is one of the first ones my oldest daughter read on her own. A lot of fun.

Book Description
The first indoor hockey match took place in 1875--and since that fateful date, the sport has occupied a central place in North American life. Here are the gods and villains of the game, those whose exploits won cheers, drew forth curses, and sometimes even elicited tears. Their tale, skillfully combining character and incident, traces hockey's changes from its amateur days to the moment when pros skated on artificial ice to the exciting and significant Canada-Russia summit series. Meet hockey's greats, like Cyclone Taylor and Newsy Lalonde; the glory teams of the 1940s, 50s, and 60s; the powerful owners; and the tragic players, like superstar Howie Morenz, dead at 35. You will come to understand the power of this poetic, violent, and gloriously improvisational sport.
Customer Reviews:
Outstanding Read!.......2004-09-29
I have read many books that detail the history of the great game of Hockey, but none was better written than this book. Mr. McKinley tells the history in a way that is easy to follow and entertaining to read. Where many of the hockey history books are confusing to follow, this one is a joy to read. I have read through the book twice already and will surely revisit the book many times in the future. Highly recommend!
NHL players and owners, please read this book.......2003-05-19
This book is fascinating on a number of levels. It gives a great account of the beginnings of hockey, including the tensions between anglo and francophone players in Montreal in the early days.
It's also a great trip down memory lane for any fan who remembers a few decades back to players like the Rocket, and has even further, but fuzzy, memories of guys like Turk Broda or Howie Morenz. McKinley covers all the major players and moments of hockey past.
But the book is more than that. It's at many levels an argument about the game, and the recurring message is that, from the very start, there's been tension between owners who have tried to outspend each other in order to win.
Reading about this element puts the currently approaching labor crisis in a historical perspective in a way that no other hockey book I'm familiar with does. For that reason alone, it's worth the read.
It makes me wish that Gary Bettman, every NHL owner, and every player would pick up a copy. It might enlighten them to know that the money and contract issues currently plaguing the game are not new. Fans can only hope that it would have the further effect of waking them up to the effects of excess before they give the game a black eye through another work stoppage.
A fantastic book. McKinley is to be congratulated.
Fabulous Book.......2002-08-31
Quite simply the best book ever written on the history of the sport
OH LORD.......2001-08-18
when i opened up this book it was like the heavens opened up and angels smiled upon me.
Great Hockey History Book!.......2001-02-27
Fantastic Stories about the history of hockey and the Stanley Cup. Not written like a usual history book, but written as a wonderful story! To anyone who plays hockey or is a big fan, this book is a must!
Book Description
Internationally renowned deep-sea pioneer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia A. Earle, in consultation with experts from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is our peerless guide. This one-of-a-kind atlas immerses us in the infinite wonders of the world offshore through more than 150 cutting-edge maps, photographs, and satellite images. Atlas of the Ocean lays bare a realm as challenging and untapped as spaceand as vital to our existence as the air we breathe.
Accompanying exquisite, up-to-the-minute maps, Earle's compelling text reveals the beauty and complexity of the ocean structurepast, present, and futureand explores its flora, fauna, and diverse phenomena, from giant squid and kelp to the smallest microbial bodies. Fascinating point maps take us into the planet's deepest abyss, the Mariana Trench; along the planet's longest mountain chain, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge; on the migration route of humpback whales; and to a host of marine sanctuaries worldwide. An unequaled resource for both education and entertainment, Atlas of the Ocean also explores the progress of fascinating technological developments that will help scientists discover the ocean's innumerable uncharted regions and life-forms.
Customer Reviews:
A Complete Study of the Oceans.......2005-07-04
This book will be a useful reference for anyone seeking technical reference material about our oceans. Dr. Earle is a well known explorer of the ocean realm, and she has done a fantastic job of assembling much useful material for this volume. The scope of this book ranges from the equatoruial regions to the polar zones.
The maps and accompanying explanations are quite thorough, and will provide a ready reference for all things related to the exploration of our seas.
Where's the editor?.......2005-06-06
The word Atlas is misleading as there is alot of text accompanying the various maps. Some pages are nothing but text. I expect an Atlas to use maps to explain more rather than words. The maps that are in the book are good, but numerous sections do not have one.
The book is split into sections/topics written by individual persons. However, in many sections the text ends in mid-sentence, as if several pages were forgotten about in each section or as if there was some arbitrary cutoff on the # of words per section.
of this approx 200 page book, sentence cutoffs appear on these pages. Each page also represents the end of a section.
p.37,55,63,82,89,96,115,141,149,163, and 175
clearly, not just a simple oversight.
Also, the table of contents is inadequate, as it primarily denotes the major sections - which is by ocean, but not the individual topics.
I give this 2 stars (Rather than 1) as the idea is good, and the content that is in the book - looks good. Execution is another story. Frankly, I would be a embarassed by the editing and quality control oversights.
Outstanding photographs, interesting maps, dodgy text........2004-02-07
If you are looking for a coffee book with excellent illustrations I would definately recommend this book. Should you wish to read it I would hesitate on recommending it. The text is disjointed and the main topic of a paragraph is often confused with numerous (tentatively linked) topics. Issues are readdressed time and time again, which leads me to think the book is more a series of strung together papers rather than a well thought out book. However, if you don't mind that, the book does introduce many interesting people involved in marine science and as I said, the illustrations are outstanding.
Barely an atlas.......2001-12-18
After hearing a discussion of this book on NPR, I ordered this book expecting a thorough atlas of the ocean floor. I was sorely disappointed. Although there are some good maps in this book, the bulk of the book deals with other topics such as: ecology or the need for protecting our oceans, current temperatures, predicting El Nino, etc. Don't get me wrong, it is a good book but it is far from what I expected. Full of pretty photographs and illustrations as usual for a National Geographic effort. I believe that the hype made me believe the book would have details associated with a land atlas.

One for All to One.......2001-02-04
Thank goodness I came across this book! It's a lucid guide that manages to demystify the subject of marketing, bringing it right up to date and making it accessible for even the non-specialist. Refreshingly free of annoying jargon and patronising truisms, it is useful for anyone who needs to get their 'product', be it commercial or otherwise, out to wide audience or clientele. And what's more, it's obviously written by someone who not only knows the subject extremely well, but also knows how to communicate, making it an enjoyable read.

Book Description
This volume describes the conflicts and dilemmas faced by multinational companies in setting ethical standards for their behavior where the limits imposed by government and public opinion are changing, conflicting, or unclear and exposure to international media is swift and merciless. The perspectives of business, international relations, law, management science, and politics are presented, along with a report of discussion at a workshop held in Oslo. There is a foreword by Daniel Yergin, president of the Cambridge Energy Research Associates in Massachusetts, and an overview by John Mitchell.
Book Description
International trade and investment have flourished globally but nowhere so spectacularly as in the Asia-Pacific region. This volume brings together some of the most eminent economists in the field to analyze this vital region from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. The volume focuses especially on trade policy and welfare, game theory analysis of trade policy and the linkages between trade policy and endogenous growth.
Customer Reviews:
A very heterogenous collection.......2000-05-27
As it often happens with books editing the contents of a Conference, this is also a very heterogeneous book, with some very good chapters/papers and others not so qualified. But since all articles come with a "comment" made by another conference participant, the reader's life is made easier, as most of the problems are already pointed out in the comments. The book is also very heterogeneous in its topics, so any reader will likely find 3-4 of the papers very useful, but not all of them.

Great Book!.......2003-04-24
Lynne Strugnell and Micheal Jenkins deserve credit for making a excellent book. This book teaches everything you need to know to communicate in a more business style, but can still be used as a beginner book. I enjoy this book because it includes the dialouge in both kana and romanji, and there are enough exercises to make sure you don't forget what you learned. I also enjoy the way they teach on this book.It doesn't seem to confuse you at all. Excellent book it deserves more than 5 stars. Make sure you stick to this book and finish it, you won't regret it.
I also recommend along with this book is pimsleur japanese programs.
