Book Description
Mandated agricultural commodity promotion programs--such as "Got Milk"--are highly visible, economically important, and controversial. In recent years, these programs have spent more than $1 billion on generic commodity promotion. They are authorized by producer referenda and funded using mandatory commodity taxes on producers and/or handlers. These programs have been the subject of much dispute and litigation, especially in California, which is home to a large number of them. This book takes a comprehensive look at the economic consequences and the resulting legal implications of commodity promotion programs in California, and distills the key consequences for similar programs on a national scale.
Customer Reviews:
Fill the gap in the area of economic evaluation of commodity promotion program.......2005-07-02
If you want to evaluate the effectiveness of commodity promotion programs, this is the right book for you. It shows how to combine the demand side effect (e.g., advertising) with the supply side effect (e.g., research) to estimate the total effect of promotion. How to compute the standardized benefit cost ratio is introduced. Also,it covers a wide variety of case studies which are good references to researchers in this area.
I would say this is the best book in the area of economics of goods promotion evaluation. It is written in plain english (as opposed to those economics jargons). It can be easily read by government officals, business man with moderate economics knowledge, and economics major students.
Books includes:
...Introduction to the Economics of California's Mandated Commodity Programs
...California's Mandated Commodity Programs
...National Benefit-Cost Estimates for the Dairy, Beef, Pork and Cotton Promotion Programs
and etc.

Book Description
Exploring the discontinuous nature of forces for change--both in the external global environment and in the internal environment--which make organizational growth, development and even survival a skilled activity, this book guides the reader through the intricacies of this complex subject.
Traditionally, strategy and organization development and change have occupied different worlds; one grounded in the economic and management sciences, the other in the applied behavioural sciences. In this text, these two worlds are bridged using a framework of organizational levels. Coghlan and Rashford focus on how the strategy and change process involves individuals (CEO, senior managers and others), teams (senior management team, board, other teams), the inter-departmental group (inter team) and the organization (in its external relations) in systemic interactions.
Expertly combining theory with practice, this will be a valuable book for masters level and advanced undergraduate students, and for all those concerned with strategy and change.

Book Description
The predictability of the physical arrangement of plants, at whatever scale it is viewed, is referred to as a spatial pattern. Spatial pattern is a crucial aspect of vegetation that has important implications not only for the plants themselves, but also for other organisms that interact with plants, such as herbivores and pollinators; or those animals for which plants provide a habitat. This book describes and evaluates methods for detecting and quantifying a variety of characteristics of spatial pattern. As well as discussing the concepts on which these techniques are based, the book includes examples from real field studies and worked examples, which, together with numerous line figures, help guide the reader through the text.

fantastic.......2001-04-19
Dale brings you through the methodology of spatical sampling and substantiates these procedures through numerous well-known references. Equations are given in clear and concise language, and examples are very well designed to fully explain the text. This book is a value to any and all aspiring environmental scientists given it's ease in understanding the wide breadth and depth of plant ecology.

Description:
The impact of forest edges on plant species richness is poorly understood. In a sugar maple (Acer saccharum) stand in Southern Quebec, variations in species richness and spatial pattern were observed as a function of distance to the edge and were associated with different environmental variables. Unexpectedly, light was not higher and soil moisture and organic matter were not lower close to the edge than in the forest interior: edge structure was most likely responsible for these results. At a 2m^2 scale, richness tended to decrease with distance to the edge, as did fine-scale species turn-over. Erythronium americanum patch size increased with distance to the edge, most likely because of differences in clonal growth along the gradient. Cover of newly emerged seedlings of sugar maple decreased with distance to the edge, in association with soil moisture and pH. Path analyses revealed significant links between environmental (micro-elevation, irradiance, soil organic matter, moisture, and pH) and biotic variables (richness, E. americanum cover, and A. saccharum cover), but only a low proportion of the variance of the biotic variables was explained. At the scale studied, stochastic processes may be more significant than deterministic processes for species richness.

Ninety-eight hikes in the Sonoran Desert.
Customer Reviews:
good desciption of hiking diffaculty.......2006-10-29
very good on trail conditions from what you'll see to telling you what is a better trail depending on sesoinal conditions.
The green desert .......2005-01-12
I once ran into a Mauritanian from the Sahara who had been in Arizona. He scorned the Arizona desert. "It's not a real desert," said he, "there are plants." So there are. The Arizona desert is lush and diverse and, when the weather's not too hot, offers some of the best walking you will find anywhere. If it's too hot in the lowlands, go uphill and try some of the high-elevation hikes described in this book.
This hiking guide contains descriptions of 98 hikes in southern Arizona ranging in length from about 1 mile to 20 miles. For each hike there is a map and a description on how to get there, information on difficulty, availability of water, elevation, etc. Hikes are described in the Chricahua Mountains, the Border ranges, Huachuca Mountains, Aravaipa Country, Pinaleno Mountains, Saguaro National Park, Santa Catalina Mountains, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, and Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge.
I used the guide for hikes in Saguaro National Park and several other areas and found it reliable and informative. Unfortunately, as of 2004, several of the most interesting trails described in the book are closed because of a forest fire in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson. Hopefully, they will be reopened soon.

Good.......1998-01-25
I used the book to find some trails in the Saguaro National Monument. One specific trail was the Yetman Trail. Erik described the access to it and the difficulty of the trail clearly. Look forward to using it more on my trips to Arizona.

A Great Teaching Book.......2006-02-13
This is a wonderful teaching book. Details and gives explicit examples of what a writer needs to know to self-publish. Can't go wrong if you follow instructions. Pass the test and begin your publishing adventure.
Good for the unintelligent.......2006-01-30
This book had some useful advice, but I found its presentation to be very juvenile. I would hope that this book's audience, made up of those people who are seriously contemplating careers as writers, would be intelligent/insightful/deep-thinking/analytical enough to put 2 and 2 together. If readers cannot understand a maturely-written book, then they probably shouldn't get their hopes set on making a career out of writing. This book makes it seem like anyone, no matter how dense or shortsighted their writing, can make it in this business, a simply erroneous assumption!
E T Milligan-Review by a fellow author.......2005-09-16
A great resource that will guide you step-by-step through the process of self-publishing. Comprehensive and thorough, covering all aspects of marketing, promoting and selling your self-published work. I lacked confidence in the profitability of self-publishing until I read this book. Then, I took a chance of contacting a printing agency recommended in her book and have been thoroughly satisfied. A must-read if you want to know how to protect your work while exposing it to many marketable opportunities. I would highly recommend you read this book before endeavoring into the fast-growing world of self-publishing.
Wow! What a Helpful Book.......2005-08-24
My home is full of self-publishing books but this is by far the best one. It has everything a writer needs to self publish. This is definitely an all-star book. Why? Because it guides the reader through the process one step at a time, leaving nothing to chance. The large print makes it easy on the eyes, something many people will appreciate. It has a sample layout and, believe it or not, a short grammar course included. Who couldn't use this? Want to know if you learned the subject matter? Take the test at the end of each chapter and the final at the end of the book. This book is realistic and the authors know what they are talking about. You can't go wrong on this one. Begin your self-publishing venture today!
It's all about results. .......2005-04-08
If you believe your book is your baby, if it really comes from within you, then you'll resonate with Bettie Tucker's approach and how she, as an expert, can relate to your goals deeply in "How To Self-Publish Your Book With Little Or No Money."
And that's only the beginning.
"How To Self-Publish Your Book With little Or No Money" begins with an understanding of the prospective book author's own sentiments and beliefs. The belief a writer has in his or her own message. This book is not for the casual writer or established professional with years of contacts; this book is for the individual new author who has no contacts, but who has something to say.
Toward this overall objective of making a book come to life, Bettie does an interesting thing: she compels some self-examination of the new writer and their material. I'm big on that. Every writer should really understand why we want to write, what we'll write and how to begin the process. Some think this is the easy part - self-expression - but it is vital to get down and get down early.
Because self-publishing is not a mechanical journey - it's much more than business, more than expression, more than mere perseverence; it's understood to be more of a personal growth experience with some real personal difficulties and change to challenge the new author as a neccesary part of their personal publishing success.
This is the secret of Bettie's content: it isn't easy. It's written to be direct, succinct and useful, but much is expected of the serious-minded self-publishing author. How the industry works is critical to understand in order to avoid that protracted, discouraging learning curve of when no one outside seems to cooperate. It's not how to get past the secretary kind of information - it's more of understanding; how to optimize the quality of your book; how to avoid pitfalls and frustrating delays; and how to bring your book to life at a profit.
Was it hard for me? No, it wasn't, but it did demand of me a new way of thinking. And that's the challenge if you want to take your writing to publication. We all write; how many take it to the next level and publish a book?
For your new book to succeed is at the heart of Self-Publish Your Book With Little Or No Money, hence the importance of the self-examination, the brief grammar review and the real-life case history inside. The book has a great index, too, current leads and filled with juicy contacts.
I respect this book, because it doesn't serve up how to make it easy, necessarily; it hands over the secrets to make it work.
I probably sound like a former student, but the new author-publisher probably will, too. That's the relationship between Bettie Tucker and her readers. Isn't that what you might expect once your book is published? I'm searching for a word here... How about gratitude?
For being well written, of course, an A. For being personable and effective, an A+.
Ever have a teacher you really liked? The ones who got results? For helping me get results, five stars.

Customer Reviews:
A decent book i think:).......2007-02-23
This book is not that bad, but it may not be suited for you if you have NEVER drawn something before:S
It has a lot of step by step guides and contains a good variety of subjects to draw. Hailing from vampires, zombies, vixens to werewolves:) This book is easily one of my favorites even if i cannot give it a top score grade... The reason why, is because it IS a bit advanced. Even if the step-by-step guides are somewhat easy to follow, if you don't have "pencil feeling", then you'll screw up a lot:S Belive me:p
But that may be just me:S It's not a bad book at all, so i can reccomend this one:) Buy it, you won't be dissapointed:)
Decent.......2007-01-22
It was a decent book, I think it could have shown a few more steps on how to draw everything but not too shabby overall.
Not very complete.......2006-11-10
It's a nice book but you need to have and idea in painting because it's no so basic
awesome.......2005-09-01
this book is a good book if you want to draw scary skeletons and stuff like that. in my opinion, i thought it was cool because it has an interview plus art from Vince Locke ( the guy who does cannibal corpes's artwork among many other).
Scared, but in a good way.......2004-12-11
I saw this book in the store and debated buying it for my twelve year old son. It is a little gruesome and the women are quite buxom. I finally decided to order it from Amazon and see what my son thought. Well he loves it! Now he draws nothing but werewolves and zombies fighting each other, I think that is a good thing(?). It is a nice follow up from author Steve Miller, my son got his book Freaks! As well so sooner or later he will probably start drawing zombies fighting cat people. I'm tempted to actually try my hand at drawing some of the characters for Halloween decorations (tempted, but I'll probably just end up making blow up copies at Kinko's.) All in all a nice book for children (and parents-lol) not prone to nightmares.
