socio-structural, behavioral, cultural and institutional variables of developing agriculture, forestry, livestock, and fisheries. The studies focus on farmers' values, needs and knowledge, their patterns of social organization, issues of food security, natural resource management and poverty
reduction. Alternative methods of multidisciplinary research, reuniting biological, natural, economic and social sciences are scrutinized in the light of experience and results, with emphasis on the nature of social science research as a source of international public goods and a key contributor to

Book Description

This book examines our current understanding of the population dynamics of one kind of interaction - that between insect parasitoids and their hosts. Parasitoids are amongst the most abundant of all animals, and make up about 10% or more of metazoan species. Almost no insect species escape their attack. Host-parasitoid interactions were first modelled over fifty years ago, but for many years there was little good empirical information on the important factors that affect host and parasitoid populations. The models were very simple, and their predictions rather divorced from the complexity of what was visible in the field. Now, better data is available on many components of host-parasitoid systems, from field observations and laboratory and field experiments, and this allows a much closer correspondence between models and data. In particular, the past twenty years have seen major advances in our understanding of how host-parasitoid interactions are influenced by spatial processes, by age-structure effects, and by competition from additional host and parasitoid species. The result is a body of theory that makes direct contact with real systems in the field, and provides us with a detailed understanding of what underpins a whole area of population dynamics. In this book, Michael P Hassell pulls the theory and field data together to present an elegant illustration of the way in which ecological studies advance.

The Post-NAFTA Political Economy.......2001-02-10

This concise and exceptionally well-written study contains a comprehensive evaluation of the impact that NAFTA has had on the Mexican economy. Furthermore, the second part of the book offers an interdisciplinary framework for the analysis of the socio-political effects attributed to the implementation of the Agreement. This book contains contributions such as those by Manuel Pastor, Jonathan Heath or Ngaire Woods that are extremely useful for those interested on the dynamics of the economic impacts of NAFTA on the Mexican economy. However, the reader should be aware of the fact that the book was published on 1998 and the vast majority of the statistical charts only cover until 1995. Despite the clear attempt of the authors of remaining "neutral," Wise's book is an assessment of the agreement and therefore I would recommend the potential readers to consult another books such as "NAFTA at Three" published in 1997 by Sidney Weintraub.

The largest portion of this growth will come from low-income users who will have new opportunities to access the Web from public places, as well as work, school, and sometimes home. Higher affordability of PCs, proliferation of the Internet in the corporate segment, and heavy governmental investments will all contribute to the universalization of the Internet in Brazil.
